Hello Everyone~ I am on day 11. I have PCOS and have struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember. My big weight gain was when they put me on birth control to try to help my body went from 150 to over 200 in 6 short months (they kept telling me it would fall off once my body was ok. Ahh that never happened. I have also gained weight with two operations I have had my body does not adapt to change well. I lived 18 years in Japan (hubby is Japanese) and was able to maintain due to all the walking/ exercise but gained about 25 pounds once I moved back to the states. UGH wouldnt you know my hubby is so handsome and slim and I always tease soon people will think I am his HOST MOTHER instead of his wife. He has seen my struggle and continues to support me.

I live in Orlando the past 2 years have been going to a speicialist to get the weight off they put me on Metforim lost 6 pounds in a year following low GI and taking the meds. Tried the Bettya shots (?) made me gain weight yet made me sick all the time hated it and stopped it after a month. I Did weight watchers for a year and lost 10 pounds was able to maintain but got stuck would lose 5 and gain 5 slowly. Very hard when you are trying to do everything right. Went to one of those meetings about the lap band or gastric bypass but....with PCOS even that may not work. I am not a big eatter. My blood pressure was off the charts and was put on BP medicine.

Searching the Iternet for all possible diets and help I saw the Medi weight loss site. I know low carb works for me. What really made me decide to do it was that I saw several people who have PCOS and they lost weight. Every person with PCOS is diffrent but I will tell you it is a real challange to lose weight. The past year my hubby was cooking low fat healthy meals for me. Anyone else would be a size 4 by now me...not so much.

I love the Medi staff and instantly bonded with several staff people. I feel like a life line has been given to me. With PCOS pretty much you are at risk for every health problem imaginable and they tell you lose weight...but so hard to lose weight!

Week one I was done 5.6 at first I was disapponted but I am in this for the long run. I also had to check myself and ask when have I ever lost 5.7 in week? Ummm NEVER! I know I can't compare myself to others because my body is differnt. The good thing is when I went to the clinic and showed them what I normally eat they told me that is probably what I will be able to eat once I reach my goal weight. Already off the BP meds which I am thrilled about! Back to my once a week walk. I have about 100 pounds to lose. First goal 20 pounds~

Questions
1) I would really like to hear from anyone with PCOS any tips how are you doing and have you been able to maintain. Has it helped your PCOS?

2) Anyone go to the Dr. Phillips office want a buddy? Would be great to have someone to meet up with to share ideas and push each other on.

Love all the advice~ read it every day my 2nd weigh in is tomorrow wish me luck! I need all the buddies and support I can get. I am determined to do this I look in the mirror and I don't see me anymore I want to be the best of me I can be. Good luck to all of us everytime I am tempted I ask myself what is my alternative? For me I dont have one I need this to be healthy and get my body back on track. Have an awesome week sorry this is so long!

Hi everyone - I'm wrapping up week 2, tomorrow is my weigh in. Week 1 went pretty well, no major issues and a loss of 7.6 lbs. For me, the 2nd week has been much more difficult than the first.

I was trying to explain to my husband that its not so much the food I miss, but the comfort of my previous habits.....coming home after work/picking up the kids, cooking a huge dinner, opening a bottle of wine, taking a glass outside to play with the kids, watching a show with another snack once the kids were in bed. I've found I have more energy and free time now that I no longer fill my time with food. But its also scary to realize I don't have the comfort of food to rely on. I had a really stressful week at work and I wasn't able to make it go away with food/wine at night. I had to deal with being "uncomfortable from emotions" instead of "uncomfortable from hiding my emotions with an overstuffed belly".

Its weird...for the first time in my life I'm experiencing fullness without being stuffed. I always thought you were only full if you were so stuffed you could barely move. My body has adjusted very quickly to the diet, it seems like my bigger challenge is my mind. Is it possible to undo 33 years of bad habits? I hope so.

Anyway, I better get some sleep. My 5 month old will be up soon enough. I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend!

Hey Zdrow- I totally understand what you're saying "it's not the food I miss but the comfort of my previous habits." I'm finishing my first week tomorrow morning (stomach growling as I type but determined not to snack before my weigh in!) This week has been fairly easy physically, and I haven't cheated at all, but I find myself remembering my 'indulgent' meals and longing for that comfort. I like the feeling of eating past just full. I think no matter what I ate- pizza or sweets or pasta or any of my favorites- I still wouldn't feel satisfied unless I was gorging myself on it. Moderation isn't what I crave. Does this make sense to anyone? If so, are there any tricks for getting past it? Any hope that it won't always be like this in the future?

Yes! I can relate to that! I like to feel FULL . Also for me, I liked to cook and then relax with my BIG plate of food and relax after the day. I still come home and eat, and though I am not hungry, I am not full like I am used to. I have to stop and analyze my feelings-I'm NOT hungry, I just want to eat more of that tasty dinner You are right, it is a habit. An issue of the mind not the body. Good insight.

Glad to hear you are doing well, keep up the good work!

I am on day 2. (my aapt was at 8am so I didnt eat until 1130). I had a headache yesterday and most of the night. Felt ok when i got up and not hungry! I made myself eat and took my vitamins. NOw my head is starting to hurt again. I am drinking a cup of tea in case it is the lack of caffine. Or is it just the lack of carbs?
I got the lf chicken broth, but that sounds awful right now. Any one have ideas?
Tkx!

I am so happy to see that I'm not the only one feeling an odd discomfort at not having my activities revolve around food. I would usually snack out of boredom, usually in the evening. So now I am still craving the comfort of sugar (am struggling with bad thoughts of Dairy Queen, I will admit) and feel a void. Plus, I can't just start eating something everytime my stomach growls.

I went to lunch today with my friend to a waterfront restaurant on the Hudson and realized there was almost nothing for me to eat from their menu. If I wasn't on MWL, I would have eaten the fried calimari, mussels marinara, ceasar salad, etc. I also would have sucked down a mojito too. But since I am on day 6, I opted for three raw oysters on the half shell w/fresh horseradish and asked for a plain grilled salmon filet and put some lemon juice on it. I had no idea how many calories three oysters had so I googled them and find they are roughly 29 calories total + about 3 grams of protein.

Headaches were pretty much over but then I got an awful migraine today. It could be related or there may have been another trigger, sometimes they just happen. I did go to Whole Foods and stocked up on some items for week 2. I found a soda called Zevia, which is sweetened with erythritol and Reb A (stevia extract) since I am still having sweet cravings. I got cream soda flavor and red root beer flavor. I did find a sweetener called Just Like Sugar which is made from chicory root dietary fiber, calcium, vitamin C and orange peel flavoring. Zero calories, fat, carbs protein. I tasted a bit and it actually tasted good. Not cheap though. I also purchased some organic stevia by Wholesome Sweeteners. I am willing to try artificial sweeteners but really don't want to consume a lot of them.

There is also another thread on MWL about good products to buy that are low carb...it is worth checking out.

LisaC.NewJersey - I am proud of you for your restaurant choices!!!!

I have to travel for work (hoping for 1st month home!) so eatting out is a concern. I have tried not to think about it . . . Got to get out of the HABIT of thinking of food all the time!

Did you feel full after? You madw great choices!

Thanks jbjb93! I won't lie, i wasn't full but I was satisfied. I did have a vanilla MWL shake before I went out because I didn't really know what I was in for. It was my first time eating out since joining last Monday.

In my opinion, if you have to eat out, don't be afraid to ask them to prepare something different than the menu option- as long as they already serve that protein. I basically told the waiter "look, i'm on a no carb diet and am trying not be a pain in the ass..." and he laughed and said no problem.

I to was out yesterday at Chili's & ordered their grill chicken sandwich minus the bread, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato & sauce. with steamed broccoli. She thought I was crazy. But it felt good to be out & I wasnt hungry afterwards.
Its not easy but I felt good about the choices I made. Hope your having a great Labor Day!

Hey,
I just started my 2nd week. Congrats on starting !!!!! I had a headach for 3 days. I think it was the carbs. Make sure you are eating all of your protein calories for the day. Drink lots of water or Smart water.

LISA...I'm sort of new here too. Starting week 6 tomorrow! Time has gone faster than it did that FIRST week, lol. About Zevia..I bought a can at the health food store my first week and sipped on it while I browsed the aisles. It was the lemon twist and only after I drank it all did I notice it had SEVEN carbs!
Just wanted to let you know..maybe different flavors are lower. Good luck everyone. By my scale today (I weigh myself once or twice a week, my bad) , I have lost 25 pounds in 6 weeks! Normally it would take me 6 months.
I have had only 3 days where i really craved "normal" food. I eat around 700 calories and only take the StaySlim as the appetite suppressant. It works great.
I love water so I'm fortunate that way. I want to stay motivated so I like coming here and seeing how everyone is doing! Hang in there and you will see good results.

My first appointment is tomorrow, and I'm so excited. I've been reading here for the past few days (since I called to make the appointment), and it's been very inspiring. I can't wait to get started tomorrow!

Good luck on your first appt! I am in Week 1 and don't weigh in until Wednesday. I do feel like I'm losing weight, though, so we'll see soon how I did! I have friends that have had really great results with MWL, so I am hopeful for all of us!

I'm in my fourth week, but I lost my biggest amount last week. I did 3.5 then exactly the same amount the week after but then lost 7, which surprised me. I am just starting to exercise but honestly haven't had an extra amount of energy yet.

WTG on your good weigh in!

My first weigh in is tomorrow morning *eeek* wish me luck. All I can think about is the expanded menu I will get!!!

Today was the worst day so far cravings-wise. I wanted something sweet so bad I thought I would just die. It was my husband's birthday so imagine my agony of making a chocolate cake with homemade buttercream icing. Yes, I did lick a beater, I could not help myself Also went to the mall where they all got ice-cream cones, my favorite chik-fil-a treat.

Good luck to all this upcoming week. Be strong!

I know it will be easier for me once I return to work, busier and less temptations.

Hi Everyone,

Today I am going in for my second weigh-in. I lost 10.4 the first week However, my home scale has been ranging from a 1 to 2 pound weight loss for this week, so I am REALLY nervous to get on the Medi scale today. I never fell out of ketosis, however, I increased my protein calories from 500 to 700, 3x's this week (the days, I worked out, I was starving by dinner time!) I hate to think that those extra calories messed up my weight loss when before I could easily consume 2000+ calories a day. I'll update with my results later today...Good luck to everyone this week.

Whew just got back from 1st weigh in...8.3lbs! I am so happy! Although the above 10+ loss would have been even better ;-) congrats to you!

My labs were all great she said. I was concerned that my love affair with butter would affect my cholesterol but nope, it was all good.

I had my first weigh in: 5 lbs. I was pretty happy with that since I was out of commission a bunch of days last week due to migraines and was not able to exercise on those days. Unfortunately, I did get my bloodwork back from last week and it made me cringe... One positive though is that my acid reflux was non-existent last week without my meds! I had my gall bladder taken out in December and I had developed horrible reflux afterwards. Maybe my body is starting to thank me for the change.

Am looking forward to this week

Wow congrats on some nice first days. 7 pounds here on my first weigh in today. I was put on the 1000 protein calorie program, not sure why, but I have to say I give you 500 guys alot of credit. I sure would have liked to have seen 10+

Week 2 weigh in results... loss 2 pounds (all fat). Hoping for a bigger number next week. But, a loss is a loss, so I'm not complaining. Gonna have to be very strict with my calories this week, even if I stay in ketosis.

I'm in my 4th week, too. I weigh in on Thursday, I'm definitely not optimistic for this one. I'll have worked out 5 of the 7 days, and on day 5 (today) my scale at home says I've actually gained 2lbs. It's gonna happen from time to time, and since I know I didn't cheat, I'll just have to persevere!

I'm excited about the Katy Perry concert tomorrow night with my daughter ... hopefully I can dance of those 2lbs at least. lol

First few weeks "Tired"

I was also tired the first few weeks. What got me the most was how my endurance was cut when it came to aerobic exercise. My husband felt so bad I mad him go the doctor just to be sure he was eating enough.

Excited for 2nd appt tomorrow! Never thought I would love to have a salad or some fruit over ice cream or some other carb-loaded bad thing. Hope I can have some after tomorrow!
Felt bad the last 2 days (flu?) so haven't eatten much. Wish I could have stayed on plan to know what I would have done.

I'm throwing out a question to anyone.... is additional dairy introduced week 2 or after?

when I went for my first weigh in, the Dr covered the basics about starting veggies and fats. He told me to hold off on fruit until week 3, but we never talked about adding any other diary. I see a lot of people posting that they started having cheese the second week. we also didnt talk about other foods on the list like soy milk, edamame, etc. I also see that walnuts are not on the list of protein or fat sources. Can I still have them?
