Deb, I hope you're feeling better! KVark, Violaine, and Motivated, How are you all doing? I have lost only 1lb since I last weighed in, but my official weigh in is on Friday. I don't usually weigh myself at home (because I get obsessive) hopefully it was just a fluke and the scales will MOVE!! I want to get out of the 170's!!! I'm just THAT close!!
One of the things that is moivating is that I really don't want to have to go out and buy new clothes for spring. I have all these clothes from a few years back that I can't fit into. What a joy it will be to slip on some of the old favorites! Of course that will take at least a 20 lb loss, but I KNOW this program works!!:

Anybody stop going to mediweightloss but stick to the diet? Went today and lost another 1lb (which is great) but I really am not getting anything out of the appointments--I go there, get weighed (which I can do at home), they give me a shot of vitamins (which I can take orally via supplement tablet), then the dietitian came in, asked me if I had any questions, "no", and left. Charged 70 dollars (got appetite suppressant rx, which I haven't used in 3 weeks or so).

Hm.....I figured that my scale (after some adjustment advice from the seller) matches pretty well to the scale there, so I can track my own progress. I lost weight the week I didn't go (vacation), so now that I am pretty in tune with what I am eating and how it works for weight loss, I really don't think I need to pay 280/month for this ...

Hi Trish! Yes, I'm feeling better. Finally made it to mod ketosis yesterday, and trace this AM. This AM down to 176.6 again. I too want to be out of the 170's! I've been here (or more) for over a year, and I too don't want to get other clothes; I have newer spring clothes from 2010 and 2011 when I was before and just after reaching my 137 goal. I probably could fit into them if I were 160 or less.

dtg - I haven't gone to appts since a visit about Aug 2012. I will tell you, I was going to lose that weight, by golly, whenever I paid $70+ weekly. Now I'm interested in getting down to at least 150-160 for summertime class reunion. I totally need this accountability to to get there!! (Back in 2010 and now!)

So do you use the forums for accountability and skip all the shot and "counseling" nonsense? I guess i am interested in the next step...the process used to transition to maintenance, which is a good 30 weeks away for me at this rate of weight loss. Still, faster than the 3.5 years on Jenny Craig. God that sucked, 35 lbs in 3.5 years. My weight has climbed in the last 2 years, about the same time my thyroid started hiccupping, now that I am on synthroid it should be easier to maintain, I hope. At least now I am able to lose something! Yea!

Hopefully your weight loss will be quick enough to fit into those skinny clothes soon! I am still trying to squeeze into my jeans, but I have a bit more to go.

dtg - Don't even think about maintenance just yet. It is hard work....and that is where I lost myself because I was in grad school full time, working, and was also sick with chronic severe sinus issues at the time....therefore adding carbs didn't get the thoughtful time consideration that would be required. I was told to increase to 1300-1500 calories, period...forever. I now know personal things that I cannot have, just because carbs would be allowed. You can check out the MWL maintenance forum here, that has been dead for about 6 months, but has lots of info on older pages. When Trish and I get to that point again I'm sure we'll be writing!!!

I paid the $ for over 1 1/2 years to MWL and loved what I learned and the accountability and shots and appetite suppressants. But I am doing this without all that now because I've been THERE and know what worked in the past. I cannot teach you all...that isn't fair to me. Or you. And I don't have the time. You can click on my name above my avatar photos and look at an album of my previous weight loss. I know it might seem weird to have those previous monthly weight losses on my signature, but it is just to show it comes off easily at first and then you just gotta, gotta, gotta stick with it and get exercising too. I am SO looking forward to being closer to goal again....my knees hurt from arthritis again, my lower back gets sore easier, I feel fat and look fat, and when at goal I was feeling SO, SO great and pain was gone!!

Today is weigh in day. I have not weighed myself at home since Monday. Stuck to plan since Tuesday (after that small hiccup on Monday). Hoping to see results!!!
Feeling a little bloated and gross today. Ugh!
Now for the little games I play on weigh in days...I wonder if anyone else does them?
1) I don't eat before the app. -can't have any added weight!
2) I try to drink as little as possible-same reason

I mean seriously, we are supposed to be drinking 80-160 oz of water, in order for me to do that everyday I have to start early and that would add a couple extra pounds by 10am!

DTG- I quit going to medi when I was around 145, I lost a little, but life just got to hectic (I also started grad school Debbie ) and I let a little slip become an almost 2 year slide! I need the accountablility, and Like Deb said paying that money every week kept me motivated because I had some "skin in the game". Now that doesn't mean you necessarily need office visits, but I would get an accountablility partner, or use this board...whatever you can stick to and feel comfortable with. Maybe you can start and accountability thread, choose a weigh in day and maybe others will join? Or just use this one and we can all support you here

I will post later with my results, wish me luck!

Tchuss!

Also, DTG I was just thinkiing of this, have you tried going to your doctor and asking them to keep account of your weight loss? Some PCP's will give B injections too, and I think they only cost 30 dollars or so, you only have to see the nurse so it is not a regular office visit. Mine does it, but they don't agree with the VLCD.
Also, I post on FB in a closed group (we call it 90 days to a new you). We all put 20 dollars in and at the end of the 90 days the "winner" -the one who has lost the most in percentage of body weight-takes the pot! Everyone has to send a picture of there weight on weigh in days with their tootsies on the scale (it is a no judgment foot/toe zone ) to the "moderator" who keeps track and all information confidential. We have 22 in the group! Maybe you can do this on FB with some local friends? We all post our goals and support one another. And even though we're all doing different plans etc. the support is real.
My goals are to exercise everyday, I am trying for 10k steps/day. And drink water like it's my JOB!
My reward after losing the first 5 lbs is going to be a pedicure- gotta make those toes look good for the scale!

Just got back from weigh-in. 165.3! That's 5 lbs down. Not the 7-10 I was hoping for, but I'll take it! Bye-Bye 170's, I can't say I'll miss you.

cheftrish, way to go! I like your style! So glad to have you here. Your FB group sounds fun. Keep up the awesome work.

dtg1990, what might seem like "nonsense" to you is what keeps some of us going.... More power to you if you're able to stick to the plan without AS and check-ins with Medi staff. You are a woman of strong will power, for sure! The AS is key for me on this journey, and indeed, the financial sacrifice is a good guarantee that I'll think before I cheat. I'm a reformed diet cheater in great need of that reinforcement! I look forward to reaching my goal and using this money toward something else, but in the meantime, I'm getting a lot out of the clinic visits and venture to say I would have quit long ago without them. If you go the no-visit route, report back! I'm amazed by the Medi posters who can do it without AS. Maintenance will be the true test for me.

NCBookworm! I would recommend to dtg that if she felt she wasn't getting much from the visits to come with questions in mind and ask them Also, my clinic (though I haven't visited in over 6 months) always had a binder or two full of LC/MWL friendly recipes with extra copies for patients.

The reason i want to quit going is that for what i am getting, it seems like i am paying way too much.

What counseling are you finding beneficial? The dietitian asks if i have any questions and leaves when i say no. The dr spends no time with me. I was placed on a diet of 700-900 protein calories, yet the dietitian has not looked at that at all and keeps writing 500-700. I dont bother correcting her, it wont change what i do. When i ask about the rate of weight loss, which still seems slow , 0.5-1 lb weekly, they just ask how much i am keeping to the diet (i.e cheating). I follow the diet so they have no answers for me.

I just do not feel like the visits are beneficial for me. I was never one to struggle with the diets, but was frustrated at Jenny Craig since to took so long to lose weight (35 lbs in 3.5 years is forever!). Even when I gained weight over the last few years my husband kept questioning why since I really didn't eat much. I am not starving on the diet, just feel a bit hungry, but that doesnt bother me much.

I do feel like the low carb is much faster than Jenny Craig, thank God! I just want to lose 2 lbs a week. Why is that so damn difficult! I want to be the one who loses 20 lbs in 1 month as was advertised.

I could never bet on my weight loss, it has never been fast so i would never be able to win, and knowing me I would starve myself with sub 300 kcal/day tring to win. Good suggestion though.

I dont think i could use my dr though, she doesnt do weight loss and doesnt have a sympathetic bone that i have found. Maybe my endocrinologist???

....please excuse bad typing, hate trying to correct stuff onthis tablet.

dtg,

I would maybe talk to the endo. I know until my insulin levels got more stabilized (I have PCOS without insulin resistance), and got on the LC, I would not lose weight, AT ALL! It was defeating.

I believe any progress is good -- but I totally understand how hard it is to not lose weight as quickly as you want (or feel you should be!)

dtg, I quit going to the clinic. I never really used the appetite suppressant so that wasnt an issue. I did notice a difference in my rate of weight loss without getting the shots. I had bought their medi bolic melts though and used them and they worked the same as the shots for me. I'm out now and looking for an alternative thats as close to them as I can get. they wont sell them to me since i'm not a current patient. I went off plan for a little while (we were out of town for a long while due to my husbands job) but i got back on track and have now been losing pretty much the same as I was when going to the clinic. I'd like to have a scale like theirs, but you already have that. You could always give it a shot and see how it goes. as long as you dont wait a month or more in between visits they wont charge a restart fee or anything. I was having a problem scheduling appts around my hubbys work schedule and were sharing a car so my visits were more and more spaced out and then i just quit going because i was still losing on my own.

Hey all, How is everyone doing on their weightloss? We were away for the weekend visiting colleges with my daughter and I have to admit to straying for 2 days, not badly, but enough to knock me right out of ketosis. Needless to say all of us here in the Boston area are reeling due to the terror attack. I am just heartbroken.

Oh Trish!!! My heart breaks watching those videos on CNN about Boston. I was just there (my first time!!) in September. Beautiful city! I was there for a medical simulation conference that lasted a week. I KNEW that the area had been well trained and that the medical students who are now physicians/anesthesiologist/surgeons there had been trained in crisis resource management!! My oldest DD has previously done two full triathalons and talked about someday doing a marathon, wow....how heinous to inflict civilian innocent people. Cowards! Praying for Boston and families there.

From Debbie (get it? Deb Bee!!) What's up with everyone else? I think this little smilies is adorable!!!!

Hello All

Hi Everyone

I don't want to be a creepy lurker so I thought I'd pop in and say hi!

My name is Alexandria, I'm living in Boston and I've just joined
MediWeight Loss Watertown.

My start weight last Thursday was 234.2 and as of today, day 5 it is 225.6.
I'm following the diet closely in terms of protein caloric allotment though I am substituting protein sources on the menu I was given (I don't like smoked salmon etc.).

I'm cautiously optimistic. I hope to be around here for a while.

Thanks to all of the participants for the wealth of information and recipes that I hope to be using in a couple of weeks : ).

Best,
Alex

Hi! I'm new to mediweightloss and I'm so happy I found this board. I have been dieting since I was a teenager and through adulthood (Dexatrim, fasting, Jenny Craig, etc.). I used to be able to keep my weight under control until one year I gained about 40 lbs. Turned out it was my thyroid and it went undiagnosed for several years. So now I am fighting to get that off and all the extra I added on. I was on a hospital weight loss program and dropped 30 pounds and kept it off until this year. I was glad that I was keeping the weight off, but was nowhere near my goal. 2013 has presented me with some incredibly hard problems and I ended up putting on 15 lbs. I stopped that immediately, got back on WW but the 1 lb. per week was depressing, even though I was able to drop 6 lbs.

When I received a coupon in Valpak and thought, "why not?" I called, made the appointment, and went in on 5/1 and started immediately. Little overwhelmed by all of the information that was given and so I poured through both of the "Welcome Newbies" threads here (took me a couple of days), but I honestly don't know what I would have done without all of the messages here.

I feel so tired and weak like I never have before. I know this will pass, but had I not read that others have felt like this, I probably would have quit almost immediately. Day 2 (Thursday) I had the most horrific headache that woke me up and I went to bed with it that night. Could be the new diet plus no caffeine, too. Day 5 was the worst for me as I was really tired and started crying for no reason. That was a little bit of a shocker, but once I got it out I was fine. I am determined to get it off and keep it off because I want to feel healthy more than anything else.

Couple of questions:

1. Anyone else doing the vegetarian program? I realize I most likely won't lose weight as fast as everyone else, but I see very little out there on high protein, low carb vegetarian options. Currently eating a lot of Gardein, Quorn, and tofu, which I don't mind. Can't wait to see veggies again!
2. How do you deal with hunger other than AS and chicken broth? Yes, I could do veggie broth, but it is so unappealing to me. I am on 35mg of the AS 3x/day and I swear my stomach is growling constantly. (BTW I will discuss this with them this week).
3. Water: My food journal allows for six 16 oz glasses of water or 96 oz of water plus 16 oz of electrolytes for a total of 112 oz, but I see people saying that you need 128 oz of water. Can someone explain this? I had been drinking a minimum of 78 oz of water daily prior to starting and I'm now up to 104 oz plus the 16 oz of electrolytes for a total of 120 oz. Are those 8 oz necessary for maximum weight loss?
4. Exercise: I work out three times a week for an hour (1/2 hour strength training, 1/2 hour cardio with intervals) and I don't feel like I can do it. I mean walking upstairs nearly winded me and that is not typical for me. Will I have more energy after week one so I can get back to exercising?
5. Shots: My clinic says that they don't do these? Did these stop across the board at all of the clinics? Do people see a difference by not getting them?

Alex (TurtleLamb) looks like you started about a week before me and we both go to the same office (Watertown). Small world, huh?

My observations at this point that maybe could help someone else that's new:
1. I try to space my water out so that I am not drinking large quantities after 7 pm. So I try to drink my first 26 oz. bottle before 8 am, another before 11 am, etc.
2. At my clinic the NP said I could make the MW shake with coffee. OMG what a lifesaver. I get my coffee in with no added sugar or creamer and caffeine headache is gone.
3. Although I haven't gotten my first weigh in yet (Wednesday), I am not going to fixate on other people's losses and expect mine to be the same. It's my TOM to boot, but I am not going to beat myself up for losing too little or expecting too much from myself the first week. My only concern will be losing 1 lb a week (a la WW) as this is not easy.

Any advice, suggestions, or anything is greatly appreciated. Amber

Hi Amber!

I'm on week 1 (again) so I'm right there with you. I've been in maintenance for a couple of years and got pretty lax and gained about 10 lbs. Getting back on track! I will let the others answer your questions since I'm kind of an "old timer" and may not be current on the new Medi stuff. I would recommend laying off the exercising the first week though. Also, I think water is relative. Just making sure you're getting the minimum. I always felt better drinking more - plus it curbed my appetite. I bought the large 34 oz. bottles of Smart Water. I would drink 1 (there's my electrolytes) then refilled it 2 more times with cold tap water and would add some sort of flavored crystal light or 0 cal 0 carb stevia flavoring.

You will definitely lose more per week than WW but like anything, sometimes it will be more, sometimes less. Just always hang in there. Totally worth it. I am a lifetime member of WW and Medi is so much more effective.

I forgot how bad Day 1 of Week 1 sucked. LOL! Freezing cold from all this water. Also very hungry. No appetite suppressant. Doing this on my own and bought substitute supplements that has made me nauseas all day. I found out you can order stuff from Medi online so I promptly did that. Love their multi vitamin - doesn't make me sick at all!

As bad as Day 1 sucks, I remember Day 3 being the worst of the worst. Blah. lol

Thanks Erin! I'm sooooo cold as well. I can't seem to get warm at all. Thanks for the words of encouragement and good luck through week one.

Day 1 down. Wasn't too difficult but I woke up hungry! Time for a good egg mug! Last night I ate a package of Miracle Noodles with 1 wedge laughing cow cheese and a chicken sausage. Just what I needed. 509 calories for the day.

How's everyone doing this morning?

Day 2 down. I feel like I'm talking to myself here but I need the space to vent. lol

I feel a bit woozy but I'm on track. I keep telling myself how nice it will be to get into my clothes for the summer. Nothing fits right now. I peeked at the scale this morning and already 5 lbs lost. Unbelievable! I looooove Medi!!!

Erin - you're not the only one here. First way in today - down 2 lbs. They asked if I stayed on the plan the whole week - yes! I was so compliant it's not funny. I get that I won't lose as much as everyone because I don't eat meat plus being hypothyroid, but I really was surprised. Not giving up though. Congrats on your weight loss!

Aww Amber - I'm sorry. I can imagine it's very difficult to stay low in carbs when you don't eat meat. I used to be vegan and I could tell a big time difference in my muscle mass when I started eating meat again. Do you eat eggs or fish?

No eggs or fish either. I posted a new thread on this board about having problems with figuring out carbs, proteins, calories. I think I'm the second vegetarian in my clinic to ever come through and I have to say I am completely confused. I don't think it's possible to get all of my protein calories and stay under on carbs no matter how I try. I'm going to try and be careful and get the leanest protein for vegetarians that I can, which seems to be Gardein and Beyond Meat. The NP said I should have snacks including the MWL protein bars, but I don't know how that's possible as far as calories and carbs. This is suddenly far more confusing than it was last week.

If your appointment was "pushed back" it was earlier (pushed back in time) If it was delayed, it was pushed forward or just say delayed.
