I have never heard of this. Is this what your clinic told you to use for a reference on your mainttenance food? It makes sense I'll have to ask mine about it.
Am I the only one who was told to do this method? I am very curious to know what others do in maintenance, they waynmy clinic explained it and their worksheets made me think this was the standard MWL thing. Very curious now....where's Susie and jo when we need them!

Ok, this is how i do it....for example my food journal for yesterday (I was low for calories yesterday....but we had the closing on the new house and walk through and I kind of got wrapped up in the day and didn't eat much, but I also didn't get to exercise yesterday so it balanced out) shows I had 1173 calories. I use the calorie counter app for my iPad, and it takes that 1173 and shows me that I had 139 g protein (which each gram of protein makes up 4 calories, so that accounted for about 560 calories), 98 g of carbs (again each gram of carbs is 4 calories, so about 390 calories) and then 25 g of fat (fat gram contains 9 calories so 225 calories). My carbs could have been a little higher, but my fat was right around half of the protein. On a typical day I always try to make sure that my carbs never are more than my protein, and
my fat is always less than half of those numbers.

Any other maintainers....how do you do it?

I use truvia to sweeten and typically don't count the carbs - I prefer it since it is closer to a natural sweeter than splenda (I think)..

It reminds me now - My clinic also told me to do 40/40/30 (not 20) eating plan but they never stressed it and it was not in a maintenance handout. They thing they were trying to make sure I undertsand is that I cannot go over 1400 cal a day when I get no exercise. So I kind of ignored/forgot the statement about 40/40/30 plan and was just trying to keep my calories no more than 1400 a day when I get no exercise. Unfortunately, I am not always successful and overeat. Then I had to put myself on 1000 cal or less for a few days to get myself back. Maybe, I should try this 40/40/30 plan - it is just seem so much work if you don't have an app

Thanks Erick44..yeah I know Gluten free isn't a diet..it's a way of life. Last year someone suggested it to me to see if I felt a change and to see if gluten was effecting me. Luckily it wasn't, although I would still eat gluten free pasta (when I still could).

I am a little upset- I got a message from an administrator reminding me of the "rules" here. It said that I posted a link to the q u e s t bars , but I didn't. It made it a hyperlink when I posted it- I didn't type in the address. And besides when other type the names of things it seems to automatically bring you to Netrition...so what's up with that!!! GRRRR.... anyhow I guess I will have to edit my messages thoroughly too.

I think I am down 2 lbs, but I have to wait till I can weight in on the Tanita at home. My boyfriend is having surgery on Monday so I am at his place for the time being. I have actually been eating a bit more- which maybe I need to do given the fact that I work out, in some form or fashion, everyday. I'll have to play around with this and see.

Hope everyone is having a good day. It's beautifully sunny here in the Northeast...not warm mind you....just sunny

Hi Trish,

Thank you for the reply. I have heard of 5HTP, but I've never tried it. I will look into it more. I have been so miserable lately I'd eat mud if someone told me it would help. lol Thanks again.

A week off work and "vacay" in NOLA!!! Walked morning till night and ate well (not good, but well) and still lost 0.6 lbs. Woohoo!!! Now I have to behave myself and get back to the program. This week wasn't the most relaxing due to the sheer amount of rubbing elbows required by the wives, but it was fun and I am enjoying my weekend at home before the grind starts again on Monday! The upside to that is that I only have to fill in at the hospital for two more weeks and then I am back to just taking call. *SO* excited!

You titrate the dose to the action. The MAIN side affect of magnesium (as well as Vit C) is loose BMs/diarrhea, so that's when you know you've had enough. I usually tell people (I'm an RN who worked with gastrointerologists, running the recovery room, so I did a TON of patient teaching) to take it a 1-3 times a day. Maybe start with 250mg each time. Right now I take 250 mg with dinner. DH takes it 2-3 times "depending".

Please read the bottle of colon cleanse stuff from the clinic....my guess is it's probably magnesium + "other stuff".....it's much cheaper to just stop by Walmart of CVS.

Hi all... I have never posted before, but love reading this board. I have found so many good ideas here. Mainly, I wanted to say thank you for the idea of taking Magnesium to help with "that" problem. It is working for me wonderfully! And we all know that a productive colon is a happy colon
I hope everyone has a super weekend.

congrats Bayside!

I have a question for you nurses out there...I have High Blood Pressure and have been doing great since doing this program, but lately noticed sort of like a palpitation more like a thump every 4-5 minutes, I finally took my BP because I was feeling very anxious and it was 188/95!! This was late last night, so this morning I did not take supplements(fat burner or stay slim) but BP is still up, called my doctor she put me on hydrochlorothyazide on top of the lisinopril, and it has come "down" to 160/93 after 3 hours. This is so unusual for me. I am normally 145/85 WITHOUT meds, and to be on med and have my BP this high is very scary. It has been running 115/70 since doing medi, so i never imagined it would spike like this. I have an app. with doctor on Monday, should I wait and continue to monitor? or ???I have changed NOTHING except I did forget to take my calcium/magnesium and omega 3's while on vacation. Help!

Catching up

Wow. I have had severe message board withdrawl for the last 2 days. I have no idea why I haven't been able to access the website?!?!?!? Anyone else experienced this before?
Thanks to all for the congrats on my weight loss, you are all so supportive and encouraging. KUDOS to all losing weight! 2 thumbs up everyone is doing awesome!
Trish in your post you mentioned that you had not really been eating on plan while on vacation? I think this could contribute to your increased B/P. Keep in mind that your B/P has not improved only because of your weight loss, but because of the dietary changes as well. You possibly consumed a lot of excess Sodium, that you weren't aware of. I don't know all of your medical history, so this is just a thought. Keep in mind that caffeine will also increase your B/P.
Power Crunch bars and Oh Yeah were approved by my clinic. Clinic said they had an excellent carb count, and low saturated fat.

Trish - I agree with Rachel's comments above and would add that you should go ahead and take your calcium/magnesium and Omegas as usual, plus the BP meds, and keep your appt for BP check on Monday. Sodium/potassium/calcium/magnesium all work to affect muscle contractions. The Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic. You might want to eat a banana tomorrow because if your potassium is low it may get a little lower with all the diuresis (frequent urination). You didn't have any chest pain did you? I wouldn't exercise til your doctor gives the ok, not with your BP so high. Was it your medi doctor that you talked to and added the HCTZ or was it your family doctor? I'd make sure your medi dr knows too. And, yes, avoid AS and fat burners til you are given the ok. Let us know! Take care!!

Snow?

I can't believe that I woke up to snow today in Richmond, VA Going to the gym @ 10am to build muscle, I hope - I really, really, really want to see the 180's at weigh in on Thursday. Has anyone done anything special for themselves since beginning the MEDI WOE? I know that I shouldn't buy clothes, until absolutely necessary. So I'm thinking about getting the Gel nails, to do something special for myself, and to feel prettier
I am experimenting with Crock Pot Adobo chicken today. If it's a hit I will post the recipe!

Hold on! Does the Fat Burner supplement affect blood pressure??? I have had borderline high blood pressure for a while and things have gotten a bit better with the weight loss, but I didn't know that the fat burners affected BP in any way. I don't take AS, but I take one fat burner a day. But like many of us, we hope to NOT have to take medications for high BP and that's one reason we are on a weight loss plan. I would hate to think that part of the plan ITSELF would contribute to high blood pressure... Anybody have any advice???

Rachel- I have gotten a massage. I love spa days! I know what you mean my jeans were falling off me this weekend. I am hoping a little run through the dryer will make them fit better till I wear them for a day or two. Luckily I think I have the same jeans in the next size down. Good luck at your weigh in and the goal you have set for yourself. Keep it up- you are doing great!

Oh crock pot is wonderful- I am making beef roast in it tonight with mashed cauliflower. Good luck with your experimental dinner!

I think I like the nutritional info on the Power crunch- they have less carbs than the oh yeah. Maybe when I start to have more carbs I will try those out.

SNOW!!! Keep that stuff down by you..I have had enough of that up here in NY. Finally a weekend of blue skies! Just need the warmth to go with it. My 3mile run this morning was bbrrrrrrr!!!

chocolatefan - Yes, caffiene can increase BP, which was Rachel's comment. I recommended no AS or fat burners for Trish til she had her BP rechecked by her doctor in regards to the possible effects on BP and on her feelings of palpitations. If you look at the Medi Fat Burner the 2nd ingredient is Green Tea Extract (45% EGCG Nmt 0.5% caffiene). I am not a medi expert to know how MUCH caffiene that is, and how it would affect the routine medi patient, but in light of very high BP (163-188 systolic and 93 to 95 diastolic) and palpitations (irregular pulse) it sounds like a good time to have Trish avoid it. Yes, caffiene can cause BP problems. As a nurse I'm very concerned about the youth of today drinking Monster drinks, etc and thinking they are safe!! They are not. I am concerned about a generation of kids who will suffer from hypertension, heart palpitations, etc because of going on a "buzz" for as long as they can and NOT letting their body rest! Since you are working with your MWL clinic, your doctor has all the answers for you individually. We were asked by Trish to give our nursing opinions. I certainly don't want to be blamed for practicing medicine! Hope this helps and puts your mind at ease....congrats on your weight loss!

Thanks Deb and Rachel,

Chocolatefan I think the stay slim and fat burner have thermogenic properties and that has the potential to raise blood pressure, that is why I have been monitoring BP so closely. But now is third day off them and BP is still up around 160 over 88 even with both BP meds. i don't get it.
Rachel, I have been getting mani or pedi after each 5lb loss, and on days I weigh in I allow myself one hour to sit in a coffee shop and read with a decaf venti (large) americano with skim milk. That is heaven to me. since this plan is so expensive I try to do little things....

Lazy Sunday, who knew it was so fun?

Deb awesome explanation, I couldn't have said it better!
Trish Sorry to hear that your B/P remains elevated. I will tell you that the more you check it and stress about it the more likely it is to remain elevated. I know this sounds silly, but I have actually heard the doctor tell patients this before. I would only check it if you feel symptomatic. I'm pretty sure you are planning to see your Primary Doctor tomorrow, right I only say this because you seem very anxious, and you will probably feel less anxiety if you see your PCP.
Kristine The snow only lasted a few hours, THANK GOD! It's been warm enough here, that none of it stuck! I don't envy you living in NY, entirely too much cold weather there for me! I really belong in FL, but hurricanes, floods, and humidity keep me away

Trish - I'm agreeing with Rachel again about watching your BP and stressing. What a wonderful time for a massage or reading a good book and drinking herbal caffiene-free tea! Relax!!

Thanks so much!!!! I really try to avoid caffeine at all costs, mostly because I'm just very sensitive to it--it keeps me awake and I do have heart palpitations every now and then (thoroughly checked out and deemed "normal/benign" but still irritating and worrisome). So, that's why I didn't take any AS, but I really appreciate getting the info on the fat burner. I was wondering why my blood pressure hadn't dropped significantly after losing a bit--this might be why. I don't know how much caffeine .5% is either, but again, I am so sensitive to it that it might be affecting my BP. After reading your post I decided to skip the fat burner today. I weigh in tomorrow so I will ask about it then! Thanks, Trish also, for your information (and ongoing inspiration!) I'm sure you'll get the answers you need very soon!!

4 pounds loss

I had my weigh-in on Saturday and was happy with my 4 pounds loss. That's a total of 38 pounds in 12 weeks. I am so happy with this program. It's been such a long time since I actually feel really good about myself. I still have a ways to go but I honestly for once feel that I can reach my goal.

It has been such an inspiration reading the posts and seeing everyone's accomplishments. Even on those days when it seems like I can't go on I come to the forum for encouragement. I don't post alot but I try to read everyday. I don't know any of you personally but because we share the same struggles and have similiar goals we have a connection.

I pray that we all have an awesome week and reach our weight loss goals for this week.

Question - how many of you get kicked out of ketosis when you have a glass of wine? If so, how long does it typically take you to get back in? Friday night will be birthday celebration and I was thinking of going to a wine bar to sample small amounts - wanting to see if ketosis is still an option after that, and if not, what I need to do to get back in afterwards.

thanks in advance

I just skimmed through the previous messages because I am busy today. Congratulations to all of you who have lost weight this week. Keep it up.

When I was maintance I also was told 40/40/20. It works!

I went for my weigh-in today and was down -2lbs! Which puts me at 134.5, which was my original medi goal. I passed it last time and I'm going to pass it again. Only 5lbs until the 120's which just BLOWS my mind. And -9.5 to reach maintance again, and this time I am staying, no more gaining 15lbs for me.

From one restart to another, congrats to you! I am looking forward to hitting my goal weight again - and making sure I follow the maintenance/wellness plan so I am not back here in another year..

SO happy for you Lins!!! Do you post what you are eating anywhere, in a blog or somewhere where I could see it? I'd love some new, easy to fix and grab ideas!! If you do have them somewhere and don't want to post them online here, could you PM me where I could find them, or PM them to me? I'm so CRAZY in the next 4 wks of grad school I simply cannot focus on figuring out anything right now. It's taking all my brain cells and I'm SPENT up just working on what I'm working on! (Plus the jobs!) Thanks so very much!! On a side note, it's back to the 30 degree weather here again the past 3 days.

I agree Holly, I reached goal in September and then cold weather happened...as well as continued life! Plus I think I got a little upset about MWL figuring my maintenance/wellness calories for life would be 1200. Really, for the rest of my life! I didn't like that answer. So, now I'm working on getting back to my September goal weight after a self-pity party lack of caring! Got to get back into my clothes I bought for the nicer weather...cuz I gave away all the big stuff and I'm certainly not going to buy that all over again! I hate this feeling....that's a huge start!

Hated to update my statistics today....it was easier to just not let you all know, but I knew I was lying.
