Hey everyone! Sorry! Been away for a bit due to 2 snowstorms in Kansas of all places! It was -17 this morning! UGH! It is VERY hard to stay motivated when it is yucky out like this! On the bright side, I did find a new exercise that burns a lot of calories in an hour! Although it isn't nearly as fun as spin class! Snow Shoveling!

Hope you feel better soon... try heated up chicken broth, it may go down easier than water right now.

Jerome,
That picture of you and Shawna holding up your old pants is INCREDIBLE! What an inspiration to your family and so many others you have been and continue to be! I am happy to get to know you and see that you genuinely care for others too. You know what a painful place those that eat in secret or in rebellion to self-discipline have gone to. Are you going to consider writing a book? Do you and Shawna exercise together at all now?
Thanks for stopping in to check in on us!

2nd weigh in today and I am down 11lbs! I was a little worried because I did indulge in a few adult beverages over the weekend, but also swam laps for 45min on Saturday to compensate.
Looking forward to enjoying the next size down in my wardrobe........clothes are getting a little baggy but I think I'm in that in-between stage.

Keep it up! 11 lbs is a great loss! Be honest at your clinic about your adult beverages...what did they say?

Am I supposed to weigh my veggies?

Hi all! I will be joining this thread now because I have successfully completed week 1! WooHOO. I'm not sure about measuring my veggies Is it ok if I weigh them? There is a lot of discrepency between by measuring cups

Help?

I am freaking out.

Every Thursday I have worried that when I weighed in on Friday morning I would not have lost anything. But this week (week 5) I know that my home scale hasn't moved a bit (It's old, broken and I know it's not accurate, but I figure it at least moves up and down.)

Between my battle with "going" (actually NOT going) and this ravenous hunger that suddenly hit me a few days ago -- and comes back every single afternoon . . . Has anyone else experienced that? Today I actually took 4 AS and still came home and ate an extra 100 calories (I do stick to lean protein, and approved stuff, just too much of it).

I SO don't want to be discouraged. I was trying so hard to break the 20 pound mark. Oh, what if I've gained?

Okay, I'll stop now. But I really am stressed.

I just use a dry measure and stuff my salad in. They told me that was how to do it. So far salad has never effected my ketosis, but boy I can't eat fruit!
Congrats on a great week 1!

Our February is tougher to get through than Thanksgiving/Christmas holidays.
Its Mardi Gras here. I am surrounded by King Cakes, Gumbo, Mardi Gras balls, parades and parties with lots of the stuff I cannot have. The first banquet is tonight. ... eeee Gadz.

I have decided to eat a nice LC dinner BEFORE I go I don't want to trip and fall into that temptation of a buffet of carbs and the excuse that there was nothing on my diet to eat.

I measure my fruits and veggies in the same measuring cup all the time. That way, the measurements will always be consistent, even if its off in regards to other measuring cups. It really doesnít matter if its off by a few units of measure as long as you're consistent, you'll still lose weight and see results. Good Luck.

Hi, donít freak out, Iím sure you'll do well.

I went through a phase (about a month long or so) where I was incredibly hungry at 3PM. And, being that I didnít eat dinner until 6PM, there was a huge stretch between lunch and dinner.

I spoke to the clinic and they told me that my blood sugar was low at that ďtimeĒ and that's what triggered the "hunger" pangs. They upped my meds and suggested I ďsipĒ hot chicken broth, or have a modified chicken soup (broth with some pieces of chicken in it ONLY), or a hand full of authorized nuts and hot tea, etc. In other words, a light/small snack full of authorized fats and proteins. No fruit or veggies as they to contain starch/sugar and will only continue to trigger hunger feelings.

The best advice I could give is to discuss it with the clinic and they'll adjust the plan to your needs. But, donít freak out or stress, you're in this for the long run. You'll be fine. Freaking out or stressing can trigger negative habits to resurface. We donít want that.

So week two weigh in is done! The scale said I had lost 2lbs, but i was actually 4lbs of fat and a gain of 2lbs of water. So I don't feel so bad!!
I also picked up their InterActive exercise package. Has anyone been using it? I'm thinking of adding it 3 or 4 times a week in addition to my daily walks. Interested in hearing you thoughts!

I had my 2nd week weigh in today and am down a 3lbs for a total of 11 lbs in two weeks! Last week I rewarded myself with a pedicure, I think a manicure this time, trying to get little things to look forward to each week that is not food...or wine

I have been looking for a way to put the tape measure on the bottom of my posts but can't find it, anyone know how to do this??

GREAT information, and reply! My clinic told me pretty much the same thing. They said I was trying to go too long in between meals, and that it could/would actually slow my weightloss effort. Now I TRY to get a small protein snack in......it doesn't always happen.... like today......but I'm having a Chai Tea because I'm FREEZING again!

Isn't it GREAT to be able to reward yourself with a non food "prize"?

There are GREAT directions (Including pictures) for adding the ticker on the MAIN LOWCARB LOBBY Main Lowcarb Lobby - Low Carb Friends I think it's the second or third thing down from the top, and says something about a TICKER. I had to follow the directions for adding it from "my pictures", instead of being able to just add the URL for some reason

Week four - and question about the protein shake

Hi, All!

Week four is officially done. I have lost a total of 20.2 pounds. My friend, Dena, who started the same day with me, has lost the exact same amount of weight! Boy, it feels good! I'm getting into a lot of my clothes that I had boxed up to take to Goodwill...good thing my hubby talked me out of that!

I have a question about the protein shake. The Medi one is expensive. I got it to try it...and I like it...I just can't afford it. Is there one out there that is comparable but cheaper?

Thanks!

Shonda

Beans?

Hi everyone! I'm curious at what point on MEDI you add beans into your diet again? This may seem odd, LoL but we like beans in this house. They are high in protein, and low in fat, carbs, and cals so I assume they are not banned forever?

Thanks Mary and Swirveegrl! And Congrats Deshaye and Morning Chai! Isn't the Tanita scale amazing? It said I had 77lbs of water! And my water went up too by .8lbs this week. I can't imagine how with all the water I am drinking! That's supposed to make you lose the water weight, right? They are having me track sodium this week.
I love beans too, and MISS THEM! they are so good for you, I can't imagine they would be banned forever??
Swirvee, was it you that wanted the gyro recipe??I will dig that out and put it on the main dish recipe site, sorry, I completely forgot about it. If you look up Alton Browns recipe on Food Network, it is the same amount of meat and onions, but I add MORE spices. Although his is okay...and can be cooked by that method. it is great for a change of pace-something my picky kids beg for!

Beans come when you're done with the acute phase I believe. After you at or close to your goal you start adding things back. Be sure to read the material your clinic gave you. It really explains the different phases
