Keri - Your calorie range is 1800....mine is 1200 to 1300, as my final lifelong range per MWL in order to maintain. My problem? I still try to sometimes eat like I've never heard of how to limit carbs! (Eating like a true (truly fat, pre-diabetic) American! The lab numbers above show me where that kind of eating got me...Insulin resistant and high cholestrol/triglycerides. But eating correctly, the MWL way, saves me from self-destruction

DH had labs done a couple months ago, and had similar results. He was on Actos for his insulin resistance, but is totally off now, as well as being taken off of a couple of BP meds. His doctor had INSISTED on seeing DH every 3 months....he even said that IF he could, he would have seen DH EVERY month, but now he's told DH that he doesn't have to be seen for a whole year!!! Our clinic didn't do ANY labs after the initial ones, even though I've lost 75 pounds and DH has lost around 90. The Docs I used to work for are the ones saying for patients with fatty liver, or constipation problems to take more magnesium. I've read a couple of things about magnesium, potassium, and Vit D3 deficiencies being connected to many problems that a lot of people (mainly women it seems) face and are being convinced that either it's "all in their heads" or that it's "normal" and they just need to adjust or face it......hog wash Can you tell my mood has not improved all that much???? S-I-L (she is not actually related to either Bill or me.....she was married to my brother who has passed away) is going to Orlando tomorrow for the whole weekend. I'm POSITIVE I'll be in a better mood very soon! ![]() Not Giselle, have you had your D checked again since starting your calcium, D, and magnesium? I looked on Netrition and it looks like you're getting only a TINY amount of D3......do a little research on the internet about D3 and you may want to supplement it even more. I'm taking about 6000 IU/day. One thing I read said that most medical people actually do the wrong blood test and get a false number saying the patients level is OK (I don't recall which one is the correct one) but if the one you had done is saying you're deficient.....you REALLY must be. I'd ask that DR how much D3 you should be taking....OR The studies are showing now that you really can't take too much, so you could increase your D3 on your own. There are even home tests for D deficiencies. Lisa it's interesting that you said about being cold in ketosis....I read something about a week ago that said the same thing..THANKS for reminding me, I wanted to look into it a little more!

Good Morning Everyone!
![]() It's great to see so many new people here, and it sounds like you're all doing great so far! Mary ~ thank you for all your insights and info on poop . I had quite a problem the first few weeks, and found Fibercon helped a lot. Didn't know about Magnesium, but will try that if the "problem" returns!!I'm also one of theose people who suddenly felt cold after losing my first few pounds... and I was always one to be hot prior to that. Now after 6 months, I'd say I've "levelled out"... at least I'm not burning up or freezing most of the time. I usually just need an extra layer of clothing to replace that old FAT that went away!

Went to my weigh-in this morning and I lost -6.2 lbs but I needed to lose 7.8 to get into the onederland. Yes I'm glad I lost what I did but honestly I'm very upset.
I had an unexpected issue yesterday just as I was heading out to the gym. Never made it to the gym, I had to find alternative transportation for my son to get home last and to go to school this morning, I didn't have dinner and I was up all night. My head feels like it will explode I still haven't had anything to eat, I'm not hungry, just emotionally drained ![]() I'm in a desperate need for a miracle right now ![]() Everyone is doing a great job, keep it up and for all the new folks, welcome and hang in there, you will see results!

Mary-Thanks for the info. Drinking is definitely not the problem. So, I hope that Medi helps to fix the problem. I go to see the gastro on the 3rd. I am hoping that he is a good doctor because it is who my doctor referred me to. I don't even have a regular physician besides my GYN. I know being 36 now. I probably need to find one but every time I find one I like the insurance quits covering them. I hope that you are able to have a great weekend and again thank you for the information.
Deb- great numbers Determined- You had a great number. Be very proud of it and you will hit onderland next week. I pray that you are able to find some comfort. Lisa- I am in my third week and love it. You will do great with the program. to everyone else that I missed- I hope that you have a great day and weekend in case I can't get back on here. |

Deb - yes, my range is 1800-1900, and if it's a high cardio day I can go as high as 2200-2400 (like that'll happen...I can't seem to get above 1400, well I very easily could....but not in a positive way....I mean, a snickers bar or order of fries and I'd easily get there!). I just hate the feeling of having to eat something to meet a calories requirement....just doesn't seem right. But, we shall see! Great job on your numbers - keep it up!
Determined Gemini - you had an amazing loss, be proud of it. Onederland will be here next week. I hope today has gotten better for you, we'll all keep you in our thoughts. Try to take a moment for yourself too, even a short walk might make you feel better both physically and emotionally. Ann - I agree, an extra layer of clothes is definitely needed now! Whereas in the past I was trying to stay cool! Enjoy the weekend everyone!

I had a fun day today....SIL left for Orlando to spend the weekend
I KNOW it's ME who has to change my attitude. I'm sure she will be staying with us through out the winter, so I have to adjust! She's a really nice person, but it's just hard to have someone (you're not even related to) living in your house! She really doesn't have any home of her own, as she sold her house to live with her sister in Ohio, but now doesn't want to do that either.....she wants to be where it's warm!I went out to lunch with a friend (I had grilled shrimp on salad, & water), then window shopping at a couple different Antique Stores. I forgot to take ANY of my supplements with me, so mid way through the afternoon I was STARVING! I'm planning on making Chicken and Leeks from the Medi magazine for dinner tonight.....I'm ready to eat NOW! |

Have lost 6.5 pounds Total! 2 weeks!
Went to Weigh In yesterday, TOM came to visit day before so I was holding 2.5 pounds of water!
I felt awful and hated to step on the scales! Had a very good week, journal numbers were good. Just didn't figure in nature stepping in there and throwing my numbers off. It's okay hopefully next Friday my weigh in will be great!?![]() Reading these post really helps me through each day, when I get the chance to read them! Thanks everyone! |

Mary - Yes, I'm now taking Metformin just at breakfast and dinner time. When I was first diagnosed with insulin resistance my Hemaglobin A1C was up to 5.9 (you are diagnosed with diabetes at 6.0 or higher!!) so my blood sugars had consistently been higher due to the cells RESISTING taking in insulin and blood sugar. So all that sugar was in my blood stream and hurting arteries and therefore could have began to hurt the function of organs. I was put on Metformin three times a day. My latest A1C was 4.7, I believe, which is NORMAL (but under the influence of Metformin). So, my MWL and personal doctor want me to continue on Metformin twice daily...besides my own tendency towards diabetes, I have a strong family history of adult onset diabetes, including my parents. My mom has been taking insulin for over 10 years. It's no problem for me to be on Metformin...I'm happy to prevent the complications of diabetes!
Lisa and Christine - THANKS for the compliments!! You're next! Let's see your photos when you post your before and afters! ![]()

I'm an emotional mess and haven't tracked anything I've eaten yesterday or today but I haven't gone over board. I'm on pins and needles and I can't wait for Monday to come and find out what will be my fate
At this point all I can do is pray and have faith in my Lord my God that everything will work out for the best. I'm extremely physically, emotionally and mentally drain and on top of that I got my TOM today. You have no idea hoe much my life has been truned upside down. Please please I ask everyone to pray for me, that I may find comfort and a quick resolution to my problem ![]() Tomorrow I plan to go back on tracking my food and hitting the gym. |

Determined Gemini - Wow. I hoped to be able to share this incredible song with someone on this forum. I hope it blesses you. BTW, drink lots of water tomorrow, but don't add soda or lots of sodium filled foods. It's going to be okay at the scale, don't let yourself lose peace over numbers. You're doing what you are supposed to be doing...it will all work out. Stay faithful!

Week 2 Results
Good morning, All!
Week two ended this past Wednesday with a -3.3 pounds...for a total of -12.5 pounds! I'm super excited to see the scale go in the 250's...I haven't seen that for over a year now! What's even better...I got into a pair of jeans I hadn't been able to get in since last year! (My hubby is happy as that means I don't have to buy clothes just yet!) I'm spending time this morning searching the recipe threads for some new stuff for breakfast as I'm getting tired of the same old thing. Have a wonderful day! |

Deb - thank you so much. Emotionally and mentally I'm feeling a lot better. Physically I'm in a lot of pain, couldn't sleep well last night because of TOM. I had a great conversation with my ex-husband, he was very reassuring and will help me and as well as my best friend. They are the only 2 that know my situation and are great.
Today is my son's birthday, he is 16. He's absolutely amazing! He's been comforting me and understanding, very mature young man. I have a lot of faith in God and this too shall pass. |

Help Question!
I'm in week four and just ate fruit for the first time yesterday. (Been eating salads only, because I really need the fiber. I also take the colon cleanse pills each night and drink a glass of Metamucil.) Anyway, I had 1/2 cup of fresh fruit, and later some mushrooms for the first time in a salad. (I know you are supposed to add one at a time, but it was a weird day and I had to eat "out" twice). My late yesterday afternoon I was in pain. Horrible cramps, felt constipated, stomach distended. Couldn't "go." Laying on my stomach helped (but after doing that all night my neck hurts!). Today I feel a bit better, and the whole abdomin pain has subsided to one very tender spot. Unfortunately, it's just to the (my) right of my navel and lower. Now I'm worried about apendicitis. Has anyone else experience this? Someone reassure me and tell me that I'm being a hypochondriac! Please? ;-) |

Hi Ronism....
Couple of thoughts here...first of all are you nauseated and vomiting??? Second....any fever???? I'm a GI RN, appendicitis has a couple of symptoms other than abdominal pain. It could very well be an ovarian cyst or perhaps something called mittleschmirtz (?spelling) which is a pain that you get when your ovary releases an egg and the follicular cyst could cause the same pain that you described. Try taking an anti inflammatory such as ibuprofen...if the pain lessens significantly, it would be either of the things I mentioned. PS...I also speak from personal experience because I have had ovarian cysts and I have mittleschmirtz every month .Congrats on joining the plan that works and ![]() cindy |

Hope everyone had a great weekend!
I ran the Warrior Dash today.... and it was awesome! (some of the warrior-tastic pics are here) I treated myself to my free warrior beer after the race (only maybe my 3rd beer since starting medi.... and it was tasty Unfortunately, I may have sprained my ankle at somepoint during the race.... hopefully not, considering I have really been getting to enjoy working out. Icing it and elevating right now... hoping it is just a little sore and nothing worse Tomorrow I am back to tracking my food strictly after being a bit lax (not terrible, but not great) this weekend. |

Thanks so much! Because no, I don't have a fever and I'm not really nauseated, just have no desire to eat -- but I am making myself, so I won't go into starvation mode. And no vomiting. So, yay -- no appendicitis!? Hey, I took ibuprophen this morning for my neck; I wonder if that's why it got better, now worse? Hmmm. I don't think it could be from ovulating -- I just got over my TOM a couple of days ago. I just hope it's gone in the morning -- I can't bear the thought of the doctor pushing on my stomach to see where it hurts!!! She'll know when I scream. Thank you again for sharing your expertise! I will sleep better tonight.~Roni |

So if you don't have a fever, Nausea, vomiting....the next "test" to do is hop up and down on one foot........IF you could do it OK, it's not your apendix. It could be a couple other things as well. #1 you could have diverticulosis (not to be confuse with diverticulitis which is an infected diverticuli) We ALL have diverticuli....expecially if you have had a constipation problem on and off for most of your life. It is a pouch that forms in your bowel, and sometimes "stuff" gets stuck in there as it's moving through. It can leave you feeling tender even once it has moved. #2 Your colon (bowel) is all full of angles, and turnes, and again "stuff" can get stuck in a "corner/turn" and it will be pushed until it clears that corner.....again, that hurts and can leave you tender even after it moves on. #3 it could be your gall bladder. They used to say "female, fair, fat, forty" but I had horrible gall bladder attacks at age 26. Those come and go, and people get pain in different places. A lot of people will have trouble after eating salad (not me) or if they have been on a very low fat diet then eat something rich. My "problem" food that would set me off was hot chocolate! Get some magnesium, take an anti-inflamitory, drink LOTS of fluid, and "go" even if you have a TINY urge.....don't put it off! |

Yesterday turned into an eating fest
I'm NOT really sure what happened, but it was like someone was paying me to eat! We went out for lunch, (I had too much of my salad), then stopped at the store. The store was giving samples of their bakery things, and of course I tried them ALL (some even twice) . Once I got home I was SO tired I couldn't stay awake, and ended up wasting the rest of the day by napping for 2 hours, then never really having any energy for the rest of the day! I wish that eating sugar made me sick to my stomach instead of just making me tired THEN (yeah it still wasn't over) after dinner I took what would have been a healthy type dessert, and turned it into something with WAY too many carbs. I took a snack size SF Jello, put on a few blueberries, then topped it with a huge glob of Cool Whip Lite, SF Hersheys syrup and a BIG hand full of almonds......what the heck was going on in my head? ![]() On a better note my Zumba DVDs arrived from my daughter! Today I've pulled myself together, and am back on track! ![]() |

Mary,
You are walking like CRAZY and haven't been losing. I'm wondering if your body needed a high calorie day to get you off your plateau. Don't feel guilty. My MWL used to recommend it! (Just not very often). Debbie |

. Sorry, couldn't resist ~ I don't care how much I love someone, I like my (and DH's) routine, or lack thereof... and it gets me downright cranky when someone stays more than a few days. I'd rather put them up in a nearby hotel (when we can afford it, and if it can be done without hurting feelings!) I don't mean to make light of your "confession," just want you to know you're not alone in harboring a teensy bit of resentment toward a friendly "intruder." Nor are you alone by any means when it comes to having an occasional BIG EAT day. ![]() Have fun with Zumba & let us know how you like it!! |

2nd week weigh in
Just got back from my second week weigh in and lost 3lbs! Very excited by that. So over two weeks on this plan I have lost 8.5lbs my BMI has gone down 1.5 and I have lost 1 whole inch off my waist. Very please with the results so far. I hope I can keep it up. This board has been a life saver between all of the success stories and the recipes it keeps me motivated.
Thanks all! ![]() Christine |
