DD bought me the DVD set, because she HEARD it was "better" than the one for WII I have not received my "gift" yet so I've never even seen Zumba except on the infomercials on TV. Too bad you didn't get the gift card a few days ago. There was a Zumba DVD set listed on dealsucker.com for $29.00 and free shipping I think.

Ugh, I am so sick today. I was up all night with a stomach bug....so sick that I actually had to keep my 5 yr old home from Kindergarten because I wasn't able to get her dressed and drop her off. Of course DH left last night to go up north snowboarding for today and tomorrow! I hate being sick like this and feeling like I can't get anything done, hoping the girls are into watching movies today because I am all about laying on the couch. The couch will be a huge step-up from the bathroom floor that I spent time sleeping on last night!

And my 2 week weigh-in on maintenance is tomorrow- lets hope I am better by then. And that the Gatorade and regular Ginger ale doesn't mess me up.....but I don't see me
taking in any other calories! Ugh!! But now I just hope the girls don't catch it too!

Hi Junebaby ~ I feel your pain, at least I did at that stage! Two products saved me ~ check out Netrition.com & look for Walden Farms and sugar free DaVinci syrups. The WF chocolate sauce (or the dipping sauce in a jar) on 2 TBs of SF Coolwhip has gotten me through many sweet attacks. Still does. It has no carbs, no calories, etc., and to me tastes very real. I have about 6 flavors of the DaVinci. It also has no carbs or cals. I mix some (Irish Cream works well) with my FF plain Dannon greek yogurt (1/2 container has 40 cals, 3 carbs & no fat)... good as a fruit dip! I've used both products (various flavors) mixed in with the Medi shake (vanilla) along with ice, mix in the blender - YUMMY. There are a lot of good items on Netrition; you just have to experiment to find things you like.
And yes ~ if you slip, just get up & back on track the next day.

Oh Keri I'm so sorry you are not feeling well. I feel your pain, I had the stomach virus 2 weeks ago and it was terrible. Hope you feel better soon and remember keep washing your hands to make sure you don't pass it to your little ones.

Keri - So, if you have to cancel your MWL appt to know that you are weighing at a more "usual health" time, then that's okay. Understand that when you are sick your body will try to hold onto some fluids so you don't feel dehydrated, it's "third spaces" fluids into your tissues to hold onto them in case you are unable to eat or drink. So, in some instances you actually weigh more, though it's not fat weight. Just some thoughts. Hope you are feeling better soon. And, I'm sure your wonderful girls are going to be good to mommy today! Take a break and get better!!

must depend on the clinic...

I count NET carbs
Carb-fiber-sugar alc=NET Carb

But if sugar alc is greater than I think 9, you can only subtract half of the sugar alc

Thank you for the get well wishes, it's been a rough day. However, I am so truly blessed with the daughters that I have....they were wonderful today. My 5 yr old has such a kind, caring spirit - she completely took it upon herself to care for her sister and me! She amazes me. I spent the whole day on the couch (which is a huge step up from spending the night in the bathroom!). The girls will go to bed around 7:30, and I will too.

I know I need to eat something - to help with this major headache and how weak I feel, but the smell of everything I open turns my stomach. Other than 1/2 glass of ginger ale and Gatorade I have had a handful of goldfish and less than a 1/4 of a muffin.

Tomorrow is a new day, and hopefully with all the resting/sleep it will be a much better day!

At my clinic they never said a word about subtracting anything......a carb is a carb to them. I must say they really didn't put too much emphasis on talking about carbs (to me at least) They just talked about making sure I measured the fruits/and or veggies. Then it was supposed to all "come out in the wash" I suppose. My information sheet says with "this" much of this fruit or veggie it's 'X' number of carbs. They never really had me keeping track of carbs, just how many "servings" of the approved fruits, and veggies I ate.

interesting. I guess it just depends on how they look at things. clearly both methods work :-)

I am given 25 carbs/day. I count 5 carbs per cup of approved veggies and 10 carbs per cup of approved fruit. I am allowed to have 2 cups of fruits/veggies per day. I just count those carbs to make sure I am within my limit.

determined gemini... i think you mentioned the C25k thing to me a while back... There wasn't an app for my cell phone so yesterday I downloaded the podcasts for the programs. They are great! I don't have to pay attention to the treadmill to know when to switch running/walking. I did the first workout of week 3 last night and will do the second tomorrow.

I am still working through sampling my giant netrition order, so far here are my thoughts..

WF BBQ sauce (thick and spicy) - tastes great to me, maybe the spicy just overpowers everything... but I am ok with that. I pour it over shredded pork and heat up

WF Chocolate syrup - ok, not great, but satisfied me. I had it over a serving of breyer's carbsmart ice cream (I was treating myself ). Worked just fine actually.

Carb Counters Banana Nut Bread - I really like it... I have it sliced into the servings on the bag and in a tupper ware in the fridge. I will have a slice with a bit of FF Cream cheese for breakfast when I don't want HB eggs or bacon (my only real breakfast foods). I will also have it for snack. The banana bread is about 73 cal and 3 net carbs per serving.

I still have more things to try, I am just resisting the urge to overstock my fridge with leftovers.... (a bad habit of mine)

I am also becoming more competent with the slow cooker (yes, I know all you have to do is turn it on). Made beef stroganoff last week (beef + salt + Pepper + beef broth for 6-8 hrs on low, turn to high and add lots of slice mushrooms, cook 15 minutes more, stir in 1C sour cream). I eat it over broccoli instead of any sort of noodle. I even got a comment on how good it smelled in the breakrook today :-) I was able to freeze several (maybe 7?) containers of leftovers so they will last longer

Meals are easier to handle when I have some pre-cooked meals on hand, or some good options like the WF stuff.

Hi Everyone,

I was here about 1 1/2 years ago asking some questions and trying to get started on my own. At that time the nearest clinic was almost 3 hours away from me. Life has thrown my husband and I continuous curve balls for the last 3 years. It seems like every time I started on my own, major things were happening in our lives. We've been trying to sell our house for 2 years, my MIL had been ill with Alzheimer’s for a long time and we were the only ones here to care for her. Every time I started she ended up in the hospital for weeks on end, needed hip replacement, changed facilities, etc. and I just could not do this and eat at hospitals and stay on plan. All excuses I guess, but my MIL passed away in May and our house sold in July. I feel like things are finally settling down. Not sure why I'm telling you all this. lol Sorry for being long winded.

I just found out that a new Medi-weightloss opened near me. I called them yesterday and I have some questions for you all. I have 2 auto-immune disorders. Because of major sensitivities, I cannot and will not take any of the supplements or shots offered by the clinic. They seem to be fine with that. I have supplements of my own I can take that work for me. I've done Medi and low carb before at home, so appetite suppression shouldn't be a problem being that the ketosis kills my appetite fairly quickly. Here's my question: Is there any point in going to the clinic to just weigh in? I asked the person at the clinic if there was any type of counseling, etc. because I felt my problem was not losing the weight, but in keeping it off and dealing with my "head" problems and not just my weight problems. I've lost tons of weight through the years, but always gain it back due to looking at this as a quick fix and not a way of life. Anyway, they said there were doctors on hand IF I wanted to speak with them each week or if I had questions. So is there not a lot of "counseling" type meetings/help going on? I'm just wondering if it's worth it for me to sign up and pay for this if I can't take the supplements and there's not much counseling. Just wondered what you all thought about this. Thank you and sorry again for typing so much.

Blessings,
Lisa

Lisa - I think how much counseling you get is very dependent on the particular clinic. You'd be paying A LOT for the weigh-in. They do have worksheets that you get each week that give you good tips on portions, recipe suggestions and the like.

I have Hashimoto's Disease - a thyroid autoimmune issue, and I found Medi's natural lean towards gluten-free foods to be very helpful for me.

One of the things that I really like the clinic is the print out from the Tanita scale. You know exactly what you've lost in fat and water. That's been very helpful for me. I have an Omron scale that gives a (not quite as accurate) fat percentage at home. I like the Tanita scale at Medi better - it gives a lot more info. I also like the Medi bloodwork, but if you're in active treatment for auto-immune issues, you're likely already going through most of that testing with your medical doctors.

As far as the more emotional aspects, that could be great or non-existent at your clinic. My clinic is pretty good overall, but it's more of "great job, keep doing that" after the first few weeks.

Hey all, I got my first box of goodies from netrition.com. Okay - it was a little bit of a splurge - but we made BBQ chicken pizzas with the flat out wraps and Waldon Farms BBQ sauce - OMG!!! Who would even want delivery after trying this gourmet treat!

I'm liking the BBQ sauces, but some of the walden farms dressings taste too artificial for me. I haven't tried anything sweet yet, but I'm going to get back on and order a few things I left off this order. I did get some miracle noodles, but don't have a plan for them yet. I can't believe I went 3 months with so many options I never took advantage of! It sure is making life fun now though!

I "officially" started Medi maintenance today - mostly out of financial necessity. I had weaned myself off of the appetite suppressant already and I didn't want to go back on it. I don't want to do Stay Slim because I'm afraid the caffeine will keep me up all night. I'm going to try to just stay on the fat burners for a while. I'd still really like to drop another 10-15 pounds, but I'm totally okay if it's 1 lb a week and not the 3/wk I'd been averaging.

Hi Kelly,

Thanks so much for your reply. Unfortunately, I wouldn't know if the clinic's support was "great or non-existant" until after I'd paid and started. On the other hand, I'm thinking that, even though I already know what the food plan is, I'd have people to talk to there to help me and also it would be someplace to keep me accountable as far as weigh-in's go. I'll have to think about it some more. I was hoping and praying it wouldn't be the kind of place that pats you on the back, as they're ushering you out the door and saying "Good job. Keep up the good work". My husband can tell me that here for free. LOL I'll contemplate your post and see if anyone else offers any insight.

On a side note, congrats on getting to maintenance and on all your hard work. I hope to be where you're at some day. Thanks so much.

Blessings,
Lisa

Lisa,

you can probably set up a free informational/consultation session with your clinic. Then you could go in and see if you thing it would be helpful to you. I did this before I decided to join and it helped me make the decision.

Best of luck!

I have WI tomorrow and just had a huge, pre-medi-like binge on popcorn (that I really made for my kids), peanutbutter, and finally had a cup of coffee. Uggg. I feel better now that I confessed to you all. I am seriously considering maintenance. I can't motivate myself to follow the acute long enough to lose any weight and I would rather maintain where I am than try to lose 8 more lbs., get frusterated, and gain it all back. I think this is what I will talk to them about at clinic tomorrow.

I have been having problems with afternoon fatigue. I have been compliant with the diet all day, around 4pm I get extremely tired and can hardly function. It is much worse on days when I go to the gym in the am. It passes by 6 or 7 then I can't get to sleep at night. Anyone else have this? Suggestions?

Week 11 weigh in (my first 2 week weigh in) - and down 2.4 lbs.

I wanted more, but when I looked at the details, I actually was up 2lbs water (TOM) and down 5.2 lbs fat! I'll take it :-)

Ugly storms in town tonight... though you would think the world was ending if you watched the news....

Charlie- You are doing awesome, Congrats on your success! I love the the Medi scale and that is seperates fat loss vs. water retention. That alone is worth every penny.

Kelly- Congrats on starting maintenance! I am thinking about it myself for both financial reasons and psychological reasons.

Kerri- I hope you feel better soon. I hate when illness or injury puts a damper in the eating and exercise plan.

I am going to WI tomorrow, bad weather or not. I must be accountable and figure out how to get out of this funk. I need to check in here more often and hear of everyone's success. I also need to be better about tracking.

Had a GREAT day today! Because of the nasty weather reports we decided to go into town and walk....it's supposed to storm all night and into tomorrow. We parked down by the marina then walked over the causeway bridge, and out onto the island, and all the way back for a total of 5.25 miles with two times over the bridge (once over and once back) I didn't jog at all but walking felt wonderful today! There was quite a breeze, so that kept my sweating down to a minimum!
I've had all of my plain water and then some hot tea, and a diet Pepsi, so PLENTY of fluids. The Hoodia seems to be ding a pretty good job of killing my appetite, so that makes me happy too.
I'm planning an order for Netrition

Blessings,
Lisa
Hi Lisa ~ I can understand your concern, because different people here have expressed different experiences with their clinics. I've been mostly fortunate, as mine has several excellent staff (RD, NP's) who provided me with strong support while I was going weekly, during my acute phase. They answered all my questions patiently and gave educational and emotional support. I also had the initial meeting before starting the program (or paying any $$) to get as much info about the place as I could. I will say that, now that I'm going monthly (I've decided to continue for a year now that I've reached my goal), the meetings are more of the "good job" variety, although I'm also still offered some information that is helpful.
The positive thing is that it's a "pay as you go" program, so if you are dissatisfied you can stop going.
I've always felt that it's my responsibility to speak up for myself at my clinic, being prepared with my questions (often about info I learn here!) AND my concerns.

So glad to be feeling better....unfortunately, it seems that I passed it along to my 5 yr old! Not sure what she is more upset about - being sick, or having to miss school and her Kids Yoga class tonight....she was just crying about those. It's so tough to be mommy - I would be sick all over again if she didn't have to be. But, it looks like another day in the house....I think I may need to go "shopping" at netrition during nap time....you all keep making me want stuff!

Had my weigh in yesterday, where I was down to 161.4 (161.8 @ home, where I was 163.4 Sunday morning before getting sick....so 1.6 was lost to the flu). As for the Medi scale, I am down a total of 98.2 lbs. I then proceeded to get lectured about still losing weight....how I obviously am not taking in enough calories. Ugh! I go back in a month where I should be at 1800+ calories per day by then with my weight having stabilized between 163-165. I will weigh-in just a few days after our 2 week vacation...all the more motivation to "behave" while away!

Ok, off to convince a 5 yr old that just because she feels better for a minute doesn't mean she can get up and play with her little sister!
