4th weigh in tonight and lost 3.4 lbs. It was .2lbs fat and 3.2lbs water... not sure why the fat loss is so low... oh well..

This weigh in brings me to exactly 20 lbs lost!

I am going to get back to the gym and hopefully that will help with the fat loss? I hope...

Great job everyone! Today was just ODD for me.......I stayed on plan food wise but just ate too much of it. I REALLY wanted to eat "something"! I couldn't even put my finger on what I wanted to eat....thank goodness we don't have much in the house that isn't Medi friendly, so I just over ate protein and veggies....I have no idea how many calories I had today.

I have a question for those in wellness. This is my first month and I have found my weight has been bouncing all over the place, by as much as 12lbs in one week! Is this what others experienced? I haven't been perfect with my eating but when I have overendulged I go back to week 1 for 3-5 days and on the whole have kept in the ranges set by the clinic after my breathing test. But the wide fluctuations has me frustrated. I don't know if it just my body adjusting to getting more carbs and calories or what.

Thanks so much for your kind words! My parents were thrilled, my Mom in particular. My weight has always been a bone of contention and it was nice to have her be happy for the first time in a very long time. My Dad actually asked for the diet info. They don't have a clinic where they live, but he wants to give a modified version a go. He eats a lot of processed, on the go type food, so it will be interesting to see if he can rise to the challenge. He wants to lose 35 pounds. I'd love to see him be successful.

I was a mess yesterday and I don't even know why! I was upset, sad, disappointed or even maybe angry at who or what I have no idea and I was feeling hungry. Well at least I thought I was feeling hungry but I know I wasn't. Lord knows all I wanted to do was to stuff my face to suppress the hunger but I didn't because one I want to get to my goal by March and two I knew it wasn't hunger for food but rather an emotional one.
Yesterday we had the company holiday lunch and there was so much temptation around but I didn't gave in not even when my friend kept asking me and insisting I get desert. Tomorrow is our Holiday breakfast, grab bag with food and I have an award banquet. As you can imagine I'm stressing since Friday morning is my weight-in and I need to stay FOCUSED. The only reason I'm having doubts is because of the way I'm feeling, I'm literally jumping out of my skin. I think it may be that I'm pmsing or the reaction of the appetite suppressant. I'm so sorry to be going on here but I need to let it out.
Thank you :'(

Had my 4th week weigh in today. I lost 2.8lbs, which I'm happy about with the week I had. But, a little disappointed that I didn't hit my 20lbs goal for the first month. I lost a total of 18.2lbs for the month.

I've been having trouble the past week, because I just don't have much will power. Everyone at work bakes and brings in amazing food everyday lately. And it's only going to get worse the next two weeks for the holidays. Also, I have 4 family functions that I have to get through. Which of course, I love my mothers cooking and all our family tradition foods. I talked with my clinic today about how to get through the next two weeks without a gain. But, all she offered was to make things that were medi friendly to bring with me so that I would have something to eat. But, I've tried that and it doesn't really help me. Since I have no will power I still end up breaking down and eating the bad for me food. And, unfortunately I don't want to tell my family that I'm doing medi, because the first time I tried medi my mother was very against it. If anyone has some suggestions about what works for them, it would much appreciated. I want to enjoy the holidays and the time with my family. But, its just so hard when this holiday is so food focused.

And by the way.....

Gator- congrats, on the 20lbs in your first month We have very similar starting stats and we started the same week, so it will be interesting to see how we both do with medi.

Kelly- congrats to you as well on a good visit with your parents. You really have done amazing, and your photos are great.

Wow ~ sounds like a lot of people are losing a lot of pounds. Great job!! Kelly ~ I loved hearing your story about seeing your parents & their reaction to the new smaller you. How great to have such a support system! We all know that we're doing this for ourselves, but it's only human to want positive reactions from those that we care about.
I'm having the same issue as Mary & maybe some others recently... I've been wanting SOMETHING to put in my mouth, but I don't know what it is. So I end up eating a little extra of a Medi-friendly food, even (horrors) a little Medi-nonfriendly tidbit. I'm thinking maybe it's the holiday season & all the psychological stuff that goes with Christmases past, do you think? I've actually been doing some holiday baking for others & I'm not eating that stuff. I box it up as soon as it's done so I don't look at it> but I'm not feeling deprived, just weird. Guess I'll try hitting the water heavy. Maybe more exercise.

Habits and hang-ups - Every one of the posts in the past 24 hours has to deal with our expectations, the MWL process of changing the way we are living, and our emotions about how others feel, holiday traditions, etcs. I'm so glad we all have each other here! In general, I'll just say make sure that you are drinking in all your water, and even about 24 more oz daily if you feel you're tempted to want to indulge in eating. Extra lbs easily come on with carbs (as attested by an almost '12 lbs gain in one week' and I've had as much as 7 lbs in a week when I've gone back to regular holiday eating around Thanksgiving. But, for those of us in wellness and maintenance we know the tools that work and don't allow those gains so often, but then follow them immediately by 500-600 calories only again of protein and it can come off. For those in acute, it will only frustrate you to think you can do that over and over again....it's the putting off til tomorrow attitude that got you in trouble in the past. Again, for those of us in wellness and maintenance that have LOST body fat, and now enter cooler weather, our body is telling us we've lost insulation, so it's tempting to eat MORE, but you are doing okay eating MWL friendly foods! Remember, the carbs just take you up the scales with water weight, and unchecked leads to fat growth too! It's a process...it's a change in habits...we can be successful in being healthy! Don't take this message as if I'm one who is completely successful! Right now I'm allowing myself to be about 6 lbs over goal, but it's still about 1 1/2 lbs under my original goal.

hello medi friends!

way to go with your losses! its so awesome and inspirational! I havent been to medi in a month for financial reasons and then got the worst sinus infection!
I feel when i get sick, the last thing I can do is eat low carb. So, I figured I would have gained a bunch but did not thank goodness! I even tried to have some "holiday" treats before I started back to medi and found they all made me sick! My favorite peppermint mocha from starbucks made me sick! So, I know it is best to avoid all those sugar laden foods now, especially since my body does not agree with them anymore!
I feel like I tend to go back and forth on losing.. now I have a clear goal in sight.. my birthday in February.. I would like to make it out of the 220s, i feel like I have been stuck there forever. Thank goodness for medi.. it is definitley the one that works

Congratulations to all the losses this week! This is a difficult time of the year but it is definitely do-able.

It really is not a case of will power so much as it is a case of won't power. I will not allow myself to be tempted to go off plan for a momentary taste good moment. Saying no gets easier everytime you say it. Now this may not work for everyone, but it does for me. After all whoever said "A moment on your lips, forever on your hips" made sense. Personally, it just is not worth it to me. I worked pretty doggone hard to get where I am, and a cookie (two miles walking) or some other sugary treat just doesn't make a lot of sense to me anymore. And I stress, yet again, this works for me, it may not work for you.

It is not that I CANNOT have something, it is that I CHOOSE not to have it. CHOOSE is the key word to me. I make my choices, I may be offered a tempting treat, and I say thank you, but not today. It looks really good, thanks for bringing it to our potluck. And then go find something I would rather choose. Again, CHOICE, CHOOSE. No one chooses but me, not my friends, not my family, not my co-workers. I choose for me.

I began this program two years ago right at this time of year. And lost 11 pounds my first week, so I personally know that it can be done. Commitment is totally necessary.

I am not trying to sound preachy or telling you what is gospel. This is what works and has worked for ME. It has enabled me to lose 112 pounds, change MY life and MY health. The decision as to how work the program is up to you.

And now I shall step off my soap box!

Jo

Sunflower: Congrats!! It helps to see people who are reaching their goals or who have already reached them and not gained back!

kmchap: Thanks :-) always nice to find someone who is similar. I always looks through success stories on various sites looking for someone around my height and weight just to see how the amount of weight they lost affected how they looked.... I feel like it gives me more realistic expectations. Best of luck to you! I will be watching out for your stats a little closer now... so make 'em good!

Ash i keep hearing from people that if they go and eat something "bad" that it hurts or they don't like it.... I have been tempted to cheat just to see if that happens to me.. I haven't done it of course, just call it morbid curiosity...

NOT a good day........we had to have our 14 yr old German Shorthair Pointer put to sleep today. She was old, and blind, but it was a SHOCK, and I'm heartbroken. She is our second "girl" this year.....that's what happens when all of your pets are about the same age.....it's been rough to say the least.....I'm not even hungry at all. My last canine "girl" is so sad. Missed my weigh in.

To be honest, y'all are scaring me....we have older furry children too and may lose 1 or 2 this year
It's so hard to lose a family member whether they walk on 2 legs or 4!!!
Just try to remember to eat and look after yourselves. that you'll find peace within yourselves knowing that you cared for them so well and that they've had a good life.

Mary - I'm so in touch with the pain you're feeling. This Friday will be 2 wks that we had to put one of our 17-year old cats to sleep. I know you were a wonderful mommy and that you are working to meet all the needs of your lonely last dog. I have been so concerned for my surviving kitty, and I'm so thankful he's doing okay....but he really follows me around alot, sleeps with me, and comes up for hugs out of the blue several times during the day. I had to keep baby food around and was more liberal with scraps, even though I know he didn't "need" to be eating people food, he loves the splurge and I now see him eating better from his own bowl of cat food. He's got me spoiled with the amount of comfort he lets me have in cuddling because I miss the other one so much and he'd been the cuddler for so long. I think Storm now wants cuddling too because Scout is gone, they used to sit next to each other in the sunshine streaming into the window. Be good to yourself. I still find myself intermittently suppressing how much I miss him...but I let myself really grieve for about 3 to 4 days. Now I just remember that he had a wonderful life and we were blessed to be his family.....wish I could give you an in person H-U-G, dear friend. I'm here, and we're all here if you want to tell us whatever you need. Praying you feel comforted and at peace.

Sunflower, your picture is inspiring. Congratulations!

I had my 4th weigh in this morning and hit 23 pounds! These boards have been such a huge help to me. Thanks for all the answers, advice and inspiration

Thanks everyone for your kind support. I met a gal that has kept off the weight for 7 years....wow...it's so encouraging to hear this.
