Awesome about the jeans Erica! Yeah, over 10 years ago there were no lycra, spandex routinely added to jeans like there is nowadays. It's that vanity sizing issue thing we've discussed in this forum in the past. "Oh, this brand says I'm a size 6 instead of a size 10 from that brand, well I'll buy this brand then!"

I'm excited - today is parent reveal day! They don't know that I'm doing this and the last time that they saw me, I weighed 218. I really wanted to be at 163.5 today (which gets me to "just" overweight rather than obese) and I missed it by one pound. I'm taking solace in the fact that I'm actually 5' 2 1/2" and that gets me to a 29.6 BMI. Like that all really matters, right? The bottom line is that I get to give them a really nice surprise.

I talked to my Medi clinic and I'm taking the next four days off from Medi. Because of past eating issues with my sister, my Mom would be a wreck if she saw what I was eating on Medi. I want her to be happy with the results, not concerned about the method. I'll still watch the carbs and portions, but I'll be eating more like maintenance while they're here.

I also talked about a new goal weight with my counselor yesterday. They actually didn't have one on file for me, but I had originally written 140 on my sheet when I signed up at the clinic. I'm not sure that I want to go that low. My face is already starting on concern me a bit. I haven't lost my chest (and don't want to). I'm wearing a size 12 bottom and M/L on top. I'm going to work on getting to 148 (about 15 more pounds) and hopefully a size 10 bottom. I've never been below a size 14 as an adult and I want to find a weight where I feel comfortable and can maintain it without it being a major daily ordeal. Hopefully that will put me into maintenance by the end of January or so. I can see a light at the end of the tunnel and I'm very excited about that.

Good Morning everyone,

Congrats on all the losses! So proud of all of us!

This morning was good! I had about 3 tops I had picked up from the cleaners. I haven't worn them in forever becuase frankly they woudln't even pull over further than my neck. Well, today I had to nix all 3 becuase even with a under shirt the arm holes and neck were gaping! YEAH! I guess I need to start seeing myself the way I am becoming and not wait so long to try on some of these clothes! I hate that I could have been wearing them - but adding them to the give a way pile was AWSOME!!!

Congratulations Kelly! I agree with your Medi clinic, besides going up in protein isn't going to pack on the lbs like simple carbs would. Unfortunately, my parents eat simple carbs as their main food source...so use them as a "garnish" instead. Thankfully they are coming to your home and you can control what is served. Also, I originally had my goal weight as 145 going into MWL, but when I got to 153 or so I didn't feel 8 lbs was enough, so that's when I thought of 140, but in order to make sure I wouldn't creep back upward from 140, thinking 149 would be okay in a rationalized mind, I then decided on 137. I made it to 137 and even 136.4 and know that it looks healthy and I feel good there. But I don't allow GUILT in my life because of being a smidge over. Especially with the recent events of the death of one of my kittys and the concern that the other is adapting okay. This is a lifestyle change. I'm better able to be successful when I feel I'm doing it for my health, rather than because I messed up and have to. Make sense?

Kelly, How did it go with your parents? Were they thrilled for your success?

Today was COLD, gloomy, and Rainy here all day.....didn't do much for my mood. Finally late this afternoon I started making/canning Apple Butter to give as Christmas gifts, and that seemed to put my mood back on the right track! I almost feel like I'm grieving.....and today the stage I was in was anger! We really had started making plans, and now those plans are gone, and that really made me angry! The bright spot is that even though I was upset, I didn't run to food to sooth me!

We decided that to save money right now we'd stop going to the center every week, so now we're cutting WAY back on the AS and fat burners. After dinner tonight I "splurged" on pork rinds......calories but no carbs! I need to try to locate another AS. I think I'll try Mega Green Tea as a fat burner.

Mary - Be sure and talk to your clinic so they know what's going on. You are a lot farther along in this than I was when I did MWL the first time (I'd lost 24-26 lbs but hadn't learned the tools well enough and when stressed ate and gained it all back!) Perhaps they will allow you to come once a month for a while? That way you can still look forward to accountability and they still help/have an office visit, but knowing that you've already lost 75 lbs perhaps they'll make this exception? I am so sorry for your grief and anger. That's understandable. You just want to get on with it and stop being in the wait and see and wonder what if mode. Praying for your patience, and for DH to have another good interview somewhere soon! Proud of you for not eating...remember how hard it was to finally make it to the 150's, not worth the minor satisfaction of a treat that will only be like glue. You and your pork rinds! Do you like the spicey ones?

Welcome back Determined Gemini! I missed you after you'd left!! Check out our Energy In/Energy Out thread here on this forum...started initially after you and others had suggested it! Perhaps it can help you have some accountability and get some eating plan ideas (the good days we have, that is!) We had started LCF nearly the same day, and you CAN reach your goals. Stick with us, girlfriend!

I really enjoyed catching up on everyone's threads about perfection and all those great weight losses! Way to go! I love reading about everyone's successes, it helps me keep going!
I had my weigh in yesterday and lost 3 more pounds! I am down 30lbs in 2 months... I'll take it! I also put on a size 10 pair of Express pants that I haven't worn in over three years! (They are a little snug, but that's better than my falling off size 12's).

I was also really encouraged to talk to the doctor yesterday and he told me my fat percentage is really low for a person of my weight and that I may only need to lose 25 more pounds... this made me feel good... I thought I might need to lose more like 40, but we will see! I'm at 30.1 in fat mass and he suggested I make it to 25-26ish. So interesting!
I hope everyone has a great day!
Melissa

Mary...when I was "displaced" in Jan09, just after I had begun the program, my clinic let me come in every two weeks instead of every week. Made it do-able for me. If you let your clinic know what is going on, I am sure they will work with you. You are doing so well, I am sure they will.

Hang in there, every door that closes means that a window opens somewhere else for you.

Hi All - haven't posted in a while - down 2.3 this week and back into the 180s. Pleased to be wearing some things that haven't fit in a while - going shopping in my closet has been pretty fun!

Kelly - wondering how it went with the big reveal to your parents - that must have been awesome! My parents are coming for Christmas on the 22nd and I hope to have lost 25 by then.

Mary - I am sure that the cold and rain isn't helping things - my parents are in FL and they have said it's awful. I can sympathize completely with you - my husband had something similar happen last year. I was surprised at how angry I was - much more than he was! Stay strong and enjoy your pork rinds

Happy Friday All ~ even though I haven't been posting, I've been trying to keep up with everyone's news every day. Ya'll keep me on track with this WOE> I'm hanging in there in maintenance. My weight seems to be fairly stable with my daily weigh-ins on my new Tanita scale, BUT I still beat myself up internally if I go up 2 or more pounds. My clinic recommends daily weighing after acute for proactive reasons and I agree... but I need to work more on not stressing about a pound or 2 when I'm sticking to plan, food & exercise-wise. The good news is that I'm generally still 2 to 4 pounds below my goal after reaching goal almost 2 months ago.

Mary ~ I'm sorry about your husband's job falling through & can imagine the disappointment. It's quite understandable that you would be angry, even though anger won't make it better. Sometimes when I get angry about things not going the way I want or had planned, I don't know who to be angry at... and then I get mad at myself about the whole mess!! As usual, it sounds like you're handling it with grace and openess... and as others have said, something even more wonderful must be around the corner for you two. This just wasn't meant to be.

ANYWAY Ann I love your new picture! Where did you buy your new scale? Do you feel like it matches the clinic fairly well? I'd like one that shows fat and water %

Thanks Mary ~ I got the scale on line (Amazon - my favorite store ). It was around $56 I think, and it shows fat & water %'s. I researched several different ones & this seems to fit me. It's easy to "program" your age & height into, and can be programmed for 2 people. I'm not sure if it matches the clinic yet, as I got it between visits, but I go Thurs, so I'll let you know.
I feel for you, as I know how hard it is to go thru bad times this time of year. Sometimes you just gotta "slide through" Christmas and not let it add to your stress, if you know what I mean. How is your hubby holding up? Any more goods leads out there? What type of work is he seeking? Maybe some of us on this site could help with his networking.

Ann, I'm much better today (of course it's still early.....LOL) Once I start crying it seems I cry all day.....thank goodness that doesn't happen very often. Bill and I are VERY positive people, and rarely get "down" at the same time, but when we do....watch out! We are usually there to be the "rock" for the other one, EXCEPT on days like yesterday!
I LOVE Amazon too! After Christmas I'll shop for a new scale.....by that time you'll have a review of yours. Christmas will be in Jacksonville with our kids, and their families. DD has to work Christmas Eve (12 hr night shift) and with DIL just finishing Chemo it will be best to keep her and family at home, so things are not too stressful at all. I think I'm done with shopping, & now just need to wrap! I'm only doing a little baking at the last minute.
Bill's much better today too and has taken a bunch of "stuff" (read as junk) from the garage to sell at a big flea market today. I doubt he'll sell much this time of year, but it is a diversion.
He has been working in Cardiac Cath Labs for over 20 yrs.....most as the manager, and finally the last 10 yrs as the director of cardiology (he's NOT a Dr.) So he's looking for more of an upper magmt type job and those are few and far between. The job he didn't get, was one that was just being created, and there are only 5 of these across the country with THIS comapany.
We decided last night that yesterday was our lowest day, so all days going forward would be better. It's also warmer here today........more cooler temps to come tomorrow night! but for today I can open the doors and windows and "let the sun shine in!"

feeling good! It will be warm, and sunny here today before the next "cold" snap comes in, so we're planning on walking our 5 miles today. I'm too whiny on the cold mornings! Thank you all again for the kind words and support......I hope you all know how much that means! I think having that support is one of the main reasons I was able to keep "on plan"!

Falling Off the Wagon.

All,

Just to let y'all know I'm still here....I know Big deal BUT I do keep up with all the posts. You ALL are very supportive of each other and give each other GREAT advice!!!
Learning how to eat on MWL can be difficult BUT staying on plan is really hard, Especially at this time of year!!!!
KUDOS to all who eat strictly medi...I had/have it easy cuz it's just me and my hubby at Christmas time. My folks are up in Canada-they take of my 93yo grandmother (who won't travel!). My hubby's folks are in Florida AND we've already made the trip down (right after Thanksgiving)!!!
We actually went down to Key West for a few days as well....and didn't want to come back!!! We had such a good time!!!! For the first time,we rented a scooter!!!! At my former weight, there was NO possible way we could have done this BUT now.....life is grand!!! We went all over Key West!!!I actually lost a couple of pounds while we were there!!! We walked alot the first couple of days and also the last day!!!!
Told hubby that this was a prelude to getting a motorcycle BUT I also told him not yet cuz I'm still scared to die Worked 1 too many shifts in trauma ICU
Now, I admit that I fall off medi once in a while...I'll eat just what I want to then, after bloating up and feeling like crap, I go back to low carb life!!! My body prefers protein, veggies and fruit...it's not fond of pasta, bread, potato chips etc.My mouth LOVES sweet stuff, but my butt doesn't
I've realized that by knowing how I feel after eating the way I should be versus my old way,I prefer not feeling bloated and just unwell!!!

Message here.....do what you will but always go back to plan cuz you will feel better emotionally as well as physically!!!!

cindy

Thanks Cindy and Jo,
Both DH and I have started adding jogging to our walk, and both of us are stiff this evening! Guess that tells everyone (including us) how out of shape we were......well I was NEVER in shape, before now, so my body isn't sure what I'm doing. We're talking about doing a 5K coming up. We know we can at least walk that far without trouble!
We went to a movie today, and I wasn't in the least bit tempted by the popcorn.....in fact it almost smelled icky to me , and I used to gobble up popcorn about as fast as I could shovel it in! My family teased me about having to watch their fingers when I was eating popcorn  I'm SO happy to be this size (and getting smaller yet) and to just blend in with the crowd......I'm no longer the fattest person in any given group! What a wonderful feeling that is!

Hi everyone! I just had the most wonderful, relaxed and fun weekend with my family. The big reveal was a total blast. I wore the dress that I had worn to my cousin's wedding in July (now about 5 sizes too big) to greet my parents at the door. My mother was truly stunned, even more so when I went and changed into a nice fitting shirt and slacks. It was really nice to have my parents be so surprised, excited and happy for me.

We further surprised them when my sister and her boyfriend appeared (they came up from Florida). Her boyfriend asked my parents for permission to marry my sister later in the weekend and we were all thrilled. He is a wonderful man. Things couldn't have gone much better.

I got to have a really great conversation with my sister's boyfriend. He lost 70 pounds a few years ago. We talked a lot about weight loss and its impact on life. He said that he stays within a two pound range up or down and will go into a store every now and again and pick out three pairs of pants in the same size, but different brands and try them on. If they all fit, he's doing well, if not, he makes adjustments. He's maintained his range for the past two years. We talked a lot about portion control. One thing that I like is that he and my sister almost always split meals in restaurants. I'd love to get into that habit with my hubby.

My four day shindig cost me two pounds, so I'm back on week one until my Friday weigh-in, hoping to break even for the week. It was well worth it. I got to enjoy myself and my parents didn't worry about the methods of my weight-loss. It was win-win all around. I'm also charged-up and re-motivated for my final goal stretch. I'm looking forward to the holidays and beyond.

Kelly!! What an awesome post! I love the part about wearing the 5 sizes too large dress as you answered the door...that way your parent never had the opportunity to say something like, "Oh, you didn't really need to lose weight, or not THAT much." Cuz then they saw how much healthier the MWL Kelly is! Guys....they don't gain the water weight like us ladies....but it's great to have a living example of someone who's maintained their goal weight after such a big loss and learn their tips! It does sound like a win-win weekend!

Kelly, we have all been on pins and needles waiting to read about your unveiling! That was such a good post!
DH and I will probably never share meals at a restaurant beyond something like him getting the minis at Ruby Tuesdays along with his salad bar, and me just getting the salad bar, then we each have one mini (minus the roll of course, and we always tell them "no fries please") There are too many "old" people here that do that, and I can't bring myself to feel OLD! We have found that ordering an appetizer is a great size portion, and works better than ordering the dinner sometimes!
We went to Bonefish Grill for DS B-day. Bill had the Ahi Tuna Appetizer for his meal, and actually had a larger portion than DS had ordering the meal, but didn't have to deal with any of the NON Medi approved sides! We will share a meal if we order "to go" and eat at home, but that doesn't happen much.....we sure don't go out to eat like we used to. It's much healthier for us, and saves us $$$ too!

Since you all have been so supportive.. here's the difference that my parents got to see this weekend. On the left is a hideous picture that a friend took of me in July - no wonder why I was always hiding from the camera! On the right is a picture taken of me and my son last weekend. Wow - cheekbones - who knew?

Kelly, you look great! I am looking forward to surprising some people in a few months. :-) The BF is actually away for all of Jan on work travel... hoping I can surprise him when he comes home.. Keep up the good work!

Monday again. And its freezing! Again!

Unfortunately because we are hitting the end of the year push, I need to get a lot of stuff done at work. This does not mesh well with the fact that I need to take Friday off for my sister's college graduation. nd tomorrow I have my weigh in 5:30pm, after work. Soooooo looks like someone is getting to work tomorrow before the sun...when the temperature is BELOW 30. Mother nature has forgotten that this is Florida.... she must be going senile..

In the mean time, I have given in to turning on the heat in my apartment. I feel like a sell out ;-)

Oh well, the good news is that some of my winter clothes fit a little better. :-) Better as in I don't feel the need to keep my coat on over the sweater to hide some bulge. there is still bulge, don't get me wrong.. but the sweater isn't quite so tight over it. Much more comfortable.

This weekend I did alright. Sometimes it seems like this is too easy... I am not suffering, I am not starving... What happened to no pain no gain? lol the only times I feel deprived are when I go to theme parks.... just because options are really slim. I normally don't frequent the parks that often... but with a lot of the Christmas events they have, Harry Potter world being open, and getting free Sea World tickets from a sister who works there... I seem to be there more often than normal..

Saturday I made fajitas and was planning on just making them into lettuce wraps instead of tortillas. But then my BF brought over low carb tortillas. He had actually gone through the trouble to get them, without me even mentioning anything about it. They were seven carbs each and I had room in my budget for the day so I had one fajita with the tortilla and the other with a piece of lettuce. Very good, and very nice to eat something resembling bread. :-)

Sunday I had one minor reward for myself... My BF (who apparently was all about earning points this weekend..) had gotten us club level, row 1 seats to see the Trans Siberian Orchestra. So, I love TSO and I love Christmas music, and I was dressed up and looked good (at least I thought so) so we hit the bar and i had a vodka and seltzer. I actually think I liked it more than my usually vodka tonic.. I had a sip of the BF's vodka tonic (the smallest of sips..) and the sweetest repulsed me. This was my first alcohol since starting Medi, so I was a little curious about how I would react.. it was good, I enjoyed it. But I didn't need more than one. And I followed it with a bottle of water

Anyways, sorry for the long post, it was a busy weekend... and the week is not getting any less busy

Have a great week!

Kelly, I'm not seeing your pictures - everyone do I have something set up wrong?

GatorEng2007 - sounds like you had a wonderful time! YEAH! I also love TSO!! I've been looking at these oopsie rolls considering giving them a try. A tuna sandwich sounds fantastic! Have you tried these yet?

So - today I had to work my way through multiple pairs of pants to find one "acceptable" for work (still debatable). These jeans did not even fit me last month and now - they barely stay up. Guess the trouser cut pants aren't the right fit anymore either. YIPEE!!

Happy Tuesday!
