Newbie asking for help from "old timers"
Hey everyone!
I got the A-OK from my Dr. and will be starting MWL on Tuesday  I'd like to pick your brains. I know there are cheaper products for sale that are similar to the shakes and bars sold at the clinic. What type/brand do you like best that fits the program and where do you get them??

I have read a lot of your posts and about your success and find them inspiring! I'm anxious to get healthy and to become part of your community!

Hi Loyemarie,
I'm not exactly an "old timer" (just finished week 7- down 15.4), but my clinic suggested Extend Bars in lieu of the ones they sell. You can get them at Target or Walgreen's, but make sure you look in the diabetic isle with the supplies and Glucerna shakes. The chocolate ones are pretty good. The peanut ones are OK, but taste pretty much like the chocolate ones, so I don't think there is much difference. They do make apple and berry flavors too, but I haven't been able to find them online.
Don't eat the bars in your first week, though. You have to wait until at least Week 2 or 3. I find them to be a great way to add protein-- I usually eat them mid-afternoon at work when I need a pick-me-up.
Good luck!

Welcome to the forum! Come on over the the thread below and you will find a lot of info on the beginning portion of our program.
You can ask a ton of questions in that thread and get great responses as well.

Also take a peek at our monthly thread as well:

You will find a great deal of support and encouragement there!

And again welcome to the group!

Hi loyemarie,

I have been doing Medi for about 14 months. I lost 108 pounds and was about 10 pounds from my goal when I got a little too comfortable with how I felt and started changing things up a bit in my way of eating. If I could give you any advice, please do not start to get too "creative" with your eating plan. I gained 20 pounds back, and thankfully have caught myself before something even more disasterous happened. I am now back on track, but it has been hard to rid my body of the sugar, carbs, etc the 2nd time around. This is a wonderful plan, but we must remember that we are not on a "diet". We are changing our way of eating for the rest of our lives. Good luck...you will do great!

Thanks for the good advice, joyfull! I'm glad you're back on track before those old habits fully took hold.

I keep reminding myself that as hard as it is to lose the weight, it's much harder to change your old habits and maintain your weight loss.
