Wow baby oil and scallops. LOL It's way too early but in a matter of 30 seconds I went from craving them to feeling nauseated. haha

Lea, you are awesome! I'm SO happy for you! And I agree - you are so tall so you for sure look thinner than a size 6 even. Ira, you are doing great too! I love all these success stories. Jeffrey, chin up man. Learn from it - we are human. I love that Jo took the time to do a reality check. I think that helped us ALL. I don't even want to know what the numbers are on the doritos I ate this weekend.

Speaking of which. After one day of protein, I lost all of the water weight I had gained and I'm back to normal. Actually a little less than normal. Yay for Medi!

Good morning Medi friends! Here's one. Last nite my husband and I went to get my wedding ring resized (it finally started slipping off) and his sister works right across the way so we went over to say hello. I haven't seen her since Christmas. So she said, "WOW, Lea, you look AMAZING!!! How much have you lost? Like A HUNDRED POUNDS???"

Holy cow. What do you say to that?! I said "OUCH"! And my husband said, "good grief, sis, she wasn't THAT heavy."

Congrats!!! To lose more than 90 lbs in 6 months is INCREDIBLE - such an inspiration to me! Here's hoping I can follow in your footsteps! To think about how much you have changed your life - both present and future - in only 1/2 a years time is amazing.

Lea - thanks for the scallop tips...definitely think I'll pass on the baby oil though!!! :-)

Erin - I love how you show us that knowing the tools of Medi can get you back on track. Keep being honest about life in wellness...someday we'll all be there!

Off to my weigh in.....

Thank you. Now I am against a new challenge. Leaving for 2 weeks vacation abroad today. I read all the posts regarding the perils of travel. I miserably failed in the past despite all the efforts. I am determined to break that tradition and make it different this time. I packed my shakes, medi-bars, coca almonds, oopsies (not sure if they can stay without fridge), packets of tuna, walden farms dressing packets. These will carry me through breakfasts and lunches. Reserached restaurants at my destination for dinners and I think, I am prepared. Wish me luck! Looking forward to come back and report to this forum of "no weight gain". Talk to you in 2 weeks.

I think "a hundred pounds" is one of those random numbers people say when they mean you've lost a lot of weight... not that you actually needed to lose 100 pounds.

What do y'all say when people make comments or ask questions about your weight loss? I don't want to come across as a show off or make anyone jealous at all. Of course, when they pay a compliment, I simply say "Thanks." So I wonder how y'all handle these without coming across as anything but nice.

I am so behind on reading these posts. I am going to try and go back and read them but I am really busy unpacking so I may not be able too.

I am home from vacation and I had a fabulous time. I am out of ketosis (and rightly so), but only up .5lbs so I am thrilled with that. I am back on week one as of this morning so hopefully I will be back in ketosis in a few days, and right back on track. I have about 15lbs to hit my second goal (5 from original goal), and I would LOVE to do it as quickly as possible and go into maintance. Wish me luck! I go for weigh-in on Friday.

Ya know, that 100 pound remark really cracked me up. And this is why. I was "displaced" from my job in Jan09. So I really really concentrated on the program. When I was called back in September 09, my coworkers had not seen me for 6 months. Several did not even recognize me...people I had worked with for 10 years.
A couple asked me - what did you lose - like 100 pounds....and I simply said no, I lost 112 pounds, and thank you for noticing! I was really flying high on compliments that day! And it still happens on a regular basis. Makes all the effort and commitment to change my life so very worth it all. Come the end of August, it will be one year since I reached goal. We are going to take another picture at my clinic so I will have a before/a goal/and a one year later!

You all can do this!

Jo

Regarding the "100 lb" comment. My daughter lost a lot of weight on Medi a while back. Recently she was at a funeral where she saw a lot of people she hadn't seen since she lost weight. Someone asked her "do you have a fat sister?" Of course, she does not have a sister and I guess this was this poor soul's way of saying ... " you lost weight, you look good".

Over the weekend I had bought a container of Pringles chips because DH & I had thought about doing a picnic lunch with the girls down by the ocean...we didn't end up doing it, but I let the girls open them yesterday at the beach. I thought about them ALL last night being open in the cabinet...thought about them as I ate breakfast this morning. So far today I've gone in the kitchen to eat them so many times - I atually just had to go open the container, dump them in the trash can, and push other trash down on top of them! Phew...chips are now gone!! How sad is that? Not that the girls really needed them here either (and there probably was sand in there too)...but, its so sad that I had to do that in order not to eat them. I just want to keep munching on things for some reason today...and those just had to go!

Lost 2.3 more at weigh in today....3.6 more by Aug 9th for my 1st mini-goal!

Jo- and that's saying I would've stopped at only 14 chips!

I forgot that I had a question for the nurses on this thread -

Today at my clinic, the NP who took my blood pressure started asking me if I've ever had issues with low blood pressure in the past (which I haven't, unless you count after both my c-sections with severe blood loss diastolic was in the 40's/50's - forget what the systolic number was). Today I was 102/62. She said it a few times that she started to make me nervous, even asked if any of my dr's in the past have mentioned it - or if possibly I wasn't drinking enough (seriously???? 128 oz isn't enough??). I didn't think 102/62 was really that low! Is it?

A single piece of pizza (plain cheese) can weigh about 3.96 ounces. You ate three, which would equate to 11.88 ounces, which is a over 1/2 of a pound and almost 3/4ths of a pound. If it was other than a cheese pizza, just up all the numbers.

..and all the percentages will be x3 as well. Now, understand, I am not trying to make you feel badly, but rather to get you to focus on what you did to yourself.

By the time you add in what else you ate during the day plus all the carbs and sodium, yep...3 pounds is about right.

Believe me, if I think about doing something like this, which I HAVE thought about but not done, I work it out like this. By the time I am finished, I have realized that it is just flat out is not worth it.

But now it is done and over with. Do not continue to beat yourself up over it, as that does absolutely no good and is a terribly negative behavior besides. Instead, get back on the horse, back on plan, and chalk it up to experience. Abd renew your commitment to your health and to the program while you are at it. You will be successful if you truly want to be!

Hang in there!

Jo

That can't be right...in order to gain a lb. you have to eat 500 cal. over your BMR. And in order to loose a lb. you have to eat 500 cal. less than your BMR.
There is no way eating 3 pieces of pizza could = 3 lbs. in weight gain. If that is true, we are all in mucho trouble.

Water retention from the sodium could be the cause.

Keri--My blood pressure is frequently 100/60, and althought I get dizzy from time to time my clinic isn't concerned at all. We have a history of low blood pressure in my family, and as long as there are no other health concerns then it's not a bid deal. I have been told that there is no official "low" like there is a "high", low just depends on the person. As long as you are feeling okay, then the numbers don't matter all that much. But mine goes up some weeks and down other weeks, so just see what happens next week. Oh I also know that TOM makes my blood pressure lower.

Hey guys, Just checking in. I'm in cabo this week and so far I believe I've been eating pretty well!

Breakfast
Eggs

Lunch - Jerky(Everything here is so bad! Brought some jerky with me that has 3g carbs :P )

Dinner - Usually grilled fish or chicken

Trying not to ruin what I have accomplished! Anyone else gone on vacation and still stuck to the plan pretty well? How did it go?

Would love to hear it Thanks

Lins - thanks for the feedback! I went to the Medi website to see what all my BP readings were - the highest was at my initial consult and it was 118/68, the rest were all similiar to today. Not sure why the nurse kept asking about it then! Both my mom and brother have low BP too...feel great, not going to worry about it.

SLCDragon - search the threads, I know there was one recently all about travel tips as a few people were going to be traveling. Enjoy vacation!

Good news. My Pizza eating wasn't all that bad. I had a good loss this week, and it may have even boosted my metabolism for this upcoming week. The weight gain I had was water weight that came off within 24 hours of eating the pizza.

i have weigh in tonight and i dont think i lost anyting... after last week only losing water. So im kinda mad at myself. I know Ive done well but Im at a plateau and its my own fault for not being 100% (or even 90%) on top of my game. I am going to chug water and powerade zero today and hope it helps.

Heres to another good week. Hope all is well with everyone here

I found this at WalMart, Flatout healthy grain.
Only 100 cal
8 net carbs
1 g sugar
9 g protein

has anyone else seen this, or been using it? Makes a great crust for pizza....if it's allowed?

Also what is a good protein bar instead of the MEDI ones?

I'm still laughing about the baby oil! LOL

According to the data that I have on file, it says:

Do not eat: bread, corn, pasta, potatoes, beets, carrots, rice, most beans, yams, or winter squash.

This holds for the entire acute phase. Again, according to the data I have on file - which was given me by my clinic.

There are a couple of good recipes in the recipe threads for a faux pizza crust and they are GOOD!

DH and I just got home from our weekly weigh-in and we BOTH lost 4 pounds!
We stopped at Bealls Outlet on the way home so he could buy a couple of shirts, and a pair of shorts........everything else is too big! I'm doing OK on clothes right now. I'm fitting into shorts I haven't worn for MANY years!

Definatly not in the acute phase. You need to make it to maintainance before the flatout bread is allowed.

I woke up with a horrible headache so today hasn't been that great. I have done fine with food thankfully, but my attitude stinks. Thankfully I have no desire to eat......at least not yet. I had a protein shake for breakfast and some lunchmeat for lunch, I am thinking grilled chicken for dinner because I have to take my middle daughter to her school for K-week (she starts kindergarten in a few weeks). Just kind of a cranky day.

My head is going to blow off today too. I'm almost sick to my stomach. I just got back from enrolling MY kids in middle school and high school!!!! It's been many years since I've had a kindergartener! How sweet!
