Vitamins B's are water soluble, so unless you go REALLY crazy you shouldn't be taking too much. I'm not taking too much and they always ask me what I take when I'm at my doc and at the clinic. The main thing is a really good multivitamin (I like the softgels so I don't 'excrete' the whole tablet)...instead I know the softgel is letting the vitamins really absorb into my system; and the other main thing is to take a Vit B-12 esp in the acute phase because it helps with energy...I'll probably just keep doing it, like Jo is. I went with the Vit B + C when I needed Vit C and they (wherever I went at the time) didn't have any just Vit C plain on the shelf.

The Multivit for Her I take will have the amount of folic acid you need, it's 150% of the Recommended Daily Allowance. It has 10% of the RDA for biotin. I don't know that that has to be replaced by a vitamin....I haven't had any problem with hair loss, which is something a lot of people have had who take extra Biotin. I just read labels when I'm standing in front of the counter, and mostly try to get softgels rather than tablets. For my calcium I buy the chews (my fake "tootsie rolls")

My hair started falling out like crazy about a month or so ago. My husband said he's finding it everywhere too. My hair is really thick and I always have to have it thinned so I don't mind the loss, but I can see where others would be worried.
I go to the clinic on Wednesday so I'm going to talk to them about the meds. I wish I'd have written down what Dr. Cobb said when we were talking about this once before. |

I'm not sure, but I think when I was scanning the MWL.com site I dug around and found something there about hair loss. Check it out. Part of it is stress too, not psychological, but physical changes body stress.
Whenever I talk with her, I have been and paper handy!! And if not....as soon as she steps out I pull it out of my purse and write down everything I remember. She is a FOUNTAIN of information! Last edited by Fit2010; 07-18-2010 at 06:45 PM.. |

But I think they're getting better again since I've been on maintenance (all this happened at end of acute and start of maintenance). So I think the diet caught up with the nails... and now I'm eating more, so the nails are turning around. My theory anyway. PS Yes, I took ALL supplements daily and consistently and got both shots.

Because we're humans not robots? It's like why do we have some sleepless nights? Days when we can barely get around... it's OK. Really. You'll get right back on the wagon.

txntv - Do you eat diet jello several times a week? That's supposed to be good for strengthening fingernails.
Lea - I was such a sleepy dork when I answered (above) about Dr Cobb, I wrote "been and paper" instead of pen and paper. Interesting how that little b and p dyslexia type thing happens on the computer too! Shelley - I wasn't good either. Like Lea, when I don't feel well my body wants stuff. I don't make bad choices so much, I just really wanted a lot of fruit yesterday. My environmental allergies started acting up Saturday, my eyelids have been itchy esp at dawn and dusk. I need to control my responses better because inflammation from too many carbs can only make it worse, I'd think. I'm looking into a conference to go to soon about Food Addictions put on professionally nationwide for medical professionals. One topic is "addictive trigger foods: can they rewire our brains?" and another topic is "foods to tame mood and hormone swings: foods that love you back. B Vitamins and essential fatty acids" Sounds spot on, doesn't it!? |

My best friend's birthday (teeny slice of cake and about 1.5 c of king crab) as well as two mixed drinks and some cognac. She owns a vietnamese restaurant and it is hard to resist her when she is placing huge pieces of king crab in front of you. ARGH!!! And yesterday and bowl of chicken enchilada soup at chili's. The salt in it was overwhelming. Today is back to week 1 with some canadian bacon, lc cheese, salmon burgers. And water!!! LOADS of water!!!

Gosh I know that feeling!!! It is the need for sweet stuff and the easiest and least guilty way of doing it is with fruit. Better natural sugars that your body is prepared for than processed stuff. I hope you feel better with the allergies!

I did it!!!!! I was 139lbs this morning! Only 4 more pounds to my original goal (but aiming for another 10 after that now). We leave on vacation early Wed morning so I hit my goal!!! Chaning up the plan a bit last week really did the trick. My doctor was very excited. I also go the okay to go out of week 1 and go run tonight! I feel great!

I'm back!
Hi everyone,
I am back after 3 weeks in Italy. My husband and I had a fabulous time and unfortunately it shows on the scale. I gained several pounds, but I am not surprised or dissappointed. I planned to enjoy my time in Italy, which included the food. This is a lifetime journey and it is all about making choices. Once when I was going to WW our leader said this about vacations. You have to decide before you go whether you want to lose weight while on vacation, maintain, or are you okay with gaining a few pounds. If you make the choice ahead of time you will not be surprised or dissappointed. I am ready to go back to week 1 and purge my body of the carbs. I know what I need to do and will get it done. And... regarding week 1... thank goodness for oopsie rolls and miracle noodles!!! ![]() Hiking in the beautiful Dolomites

Lins - Congrats!!! You must feel so motivated now to have reached that mini-goal of yours...way to go!
Went and bought Biotin this morning - how appropriate for the conversations going on here! My hair in the past week is falling out like crazy...I mean handfuls a day, ugh! Thankfully I have really thick hair to start with, but the amount in the shower and on the bathroom floor after I dry it is so disgusting! I feel like I'm in a lunch rut too...nothing seems appealing to me for lunch anymore. My big problem is that I was never a true "lunch" eater - it was always a little of this, a little of that with snacks thrown in (hence, why I was so overweight!). I did really great planning out what my lunch was until a few days ago - and now its like all my standard options (tuna, turkey, leftover chicken, rotisserie chicken, eggs, etc) all turn my stomach before I even eat them. Time to get creative I guess! -Keri

Hello everyone! Finally back from our trip to Disney World. Had a fabulous time with hubby and the kids!!!
Did well, but not perfectly on plan at all times. Had a lot of inner turmoil regarding having to eat some things I wasn't thrilled with. Being out in the parks all day sometimes forces the issue of eating for energy only. I had a few more cocktails than I should've and did have a small cone of vanilla soft serve one day. Let me tell you- that ice cream did not like me as much as I liked it. Sick for an entire evening!! Oh well, lesson learned. I haven't weighed in two weeks due to the timing of the trip. I'm due to go in on Thurs. The best part about Medi is that I have all of the tools and knowledge I need to get myself back on track. Started eating week 1 style since I got back home. Hoping that will counteract any damage done. I'll let you know how it goes!

Susie and Mom on a Mission - Welcome back! I'm so glad you enjoyed your vacations. I've got one coming up in August. Had hoped to be 140 by then....we'll see!
Lins - Horray!! So glad you made it to your mini goal of 139!Shelley & Lea - I'm definitely sick now w/ sinus infection. I've had so many in the past. Made appt to see my ENT tomorrow afternoon. Usually I can just phone in and they give me an antibiotic, but I want more advice this time. Especially on how to avoid giving in to carbs (even fruits) when I'm sick and how antibiotics mess with me (candida-wise history). I'm just dizzy and no energy . One of my yucky classes ends this evening...it's probably been a combo of sitting here stressed with online class, allergies to grasses and things springing up in past few days, and carb eating that added to me feeling sick. I want new answers ! Head and energy won't let me exercise and if I go outside my eyelids itch! I already take daily prescription Allegra, nasal spray, etc.Sorry to whine! |

Welcome home ladies. Glad you guys had good vacations! We leave on Wed morning for a family reunion at a church camp, but we are on our own for breakfast and lunch, and are staying in cabins in the middle of nowhere, so what I pack is all that will be avalible anyway. I am taking protein powder, beef jerky, medi bars, and almonds. That's all I know of right now because I am unsure if we will have a place to keep things cool. At night we will go in to town to eat dinner, but luckily I have a family that eats heatlhy most of the time, so it shouldn't be a problem. Plus there are lots of hiking trails and all of my cousins are runners (5K to marathon) and we plan to run all together a few times. I can't wait!!!

Oh no, Debbie! You knew you weren't feeling well. I'm sorry it went into a full blown infection. I've only had a handful of them in my life and they were horrible. It felt like my teeth didn't even fit in my mouth anymore. Let me know if there's anything I can do!!

Keri, I bought some Biotin too. I don't look like I'm losing it, but the amount on the floor and tub is a lot!!!! I'm in the lunch rut too. Actually, the everything rut. I have the same stuff over and over and it's not what I feel like I want. Tonite, after I ate, I told my husband I wanted some rotisserie chicken. He asked if I wanted him to go get me some. I said no, cause I'm done eating for the day, but it sure sounds good for tomorrow!! I've been experiencing that "turn my stomach" feeling before I eat, too. The one thing that's always good is my ham with colby and cheddar cheese, heated in the microwave with mustard on it. Something about it being warm with melty cheese. Yum.

My muchies are NOT gone. I'm at 830 calories for the day. All legal, just more calories than I intended. I've been physically active all day, so I'm not all that worried about the extra calories, especially since 780 of them are from protein. BUT... I weigh in on Wednesday and I want to hit that 150 there!! I'm really retaining water today too. I want that to be down by wednesday, too. CONGRATS ON THE CLASS BEING OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Lea - I've stayed away from things like hotdogs and ham because I was worried about their sodium contents...not that I've even looked it up or anything! It was just one of those things stuck in my head - who knows! BUT - I will say, a hot dog with just a little bit of Heinz lowcarb ketchup ACTUALLY sounds good!
This rut needs to end though - because I feel as if I could eat yogurt for breakfast every day and then fill the rest of the day with things like almonds and cheese! Ugh! Weigh-in tomorrow then grocery shopping...I think I'm going to check out the thread where everyone lists their energy in/energy out for some ideas too. |

On the energy in/energy out thread - there was talk of "fold-over pizza thingy's" (Erin & Leah, maybe???) What is it? I tried to search it, but no luck. Also - Erin, what's in a chicken fajita salad? (Just chicken/peppers/onions on top of a salad?).
Debbie - I think you mentioned a turkey tettrazini in the food thread too, which I know I wouldn't eat the pasta in it, but does it call for milk/cream in the recipe? If only that thread included recipes for the meals people mentioned - now I'm off to double check the recipe threads! |
