Initial Consultation Today!!

:kicking:

I am excited to go but nervous that I won't be able to keep affording it.. My husband is in the Military and money is TIGHT!!! If it works that's great as it's my last resort before Lap Band.. (I have an appointment in August for my initial visit with Bariatric Surgeon)

If you miss a week here and there going in is that a problem.. I know it's 70 a week and I did ask if you have to go EVERY week during Acute and she said yes.. They have no prepay discount either...

I forgot to ask if they have a military discount.. (never know)

Anyway, I am new here to the boards and new to Medi but wanted to try this before going in August.. I just found out about it from my Dental Hygenist..

Good luck!!! I met someone the other day that had the gastric bypass and she said it was really rough. Medi definitely works if you commit to it. Come here often for support!

My clinic allowed me to go every other week once I was off the appetite suppressant. The AS has to be monitored though so if you don't go in, you don't get the AS. Some don't need it though. I did!

All I can say from a a medical POV is that lap band is better than gastric bypass and I would never personally recommend anyone do gastric bypass. Unfortunately, it is seen as the only hope for some. :( Lap band, at the very least, is reversible. Gastric bypass, once it goes downhill (has complications), goes down fast and the results are not pretty.

My mom and 2 friends had gastric and have head great results.. My mom had hers 8 years ago and lost 200 lbs and has only gained back 25 (and that's because she ruptured her Achilles Tendon and was in a wheelchair for 3 months..)

I would do the lapband.. That is what my appointment is for.. It's funny.. My insurance will pay the 13k-15k for surgery but won't help out at all with this Medical supervised diet...

I know I will need the suppressants... I guess I will pull out the charge card (and hide it from hubby lol...)

I have to say - she did not look good. She was worried about being a camp counselor 7 weeks after her surgery. She was eating baby food. I felt terrible for her but she also did say that for the first time since she was 12, she's off insulin. I'd say she's probably in her late 20s, early 30s.

I truly hope this is going to work for you, Debi! Medi has been such a blessing for me and so many other people! Look at Jerry's profile for someone who has lost almost 300 lbs on Medi very quickly! He looks fantastic! Jo has also lost 100 lbs!

Sooo, consultation went well!! I loved everyone there and my ekg, urinalysis, blood pressure was good!! Blood work will be in next week.. Everyone is super nice!! I even get a military discount on weekly visits!! Also, they said if it gets too much financially to talk to them and we can work something out... My hygenist said she now goes only every other week and they only charge $50 each visit... She is still in the accute phase...
I am excited!! Picked up my suppressants and am warning kids and hubby that I will be grouchy, tired and sick so leave me alone for the week.. lol...

really? thats a good idea... I am going to be weaned off of my AS soon and saving 140$ a month isnt a bad idea. Did you still have similar weight loss as when you went every week? I would be scared not to have thea ccountability...

It's more difficult without weighing in every day. Your mind plays tricks on you! "Eh... I can eat a few more carbs/calories and then just go to all protein before weigh in." kind of stuff.

Yes, I agree with that. Actually, I did the exact thing to myself 3 times during my 5 months on Medi. All 3 times I allowed myself to eat tempting food that is not allowed (usually at a party, or on trips), then reschedule an appointment so that I can have a couple more days for just protein so that the scale would not show gain. I know it is bad but my "resistance" muscle is not strong enough. I hope it will get strong before I go into maintenance.

Welcome christiansmom

I started week # 2 today. Week # 1 was not as bad as I thought it would be, I was glad to get through it.

I had a few difficult days, but I just stayed to busy.

So far, So good...one day at a time.

I wish you well.

I know! I try to keep it in my mind that my weight will fluctuate so I don't get too frustrated with the scale, but I have to weigh daily because I need the motivation when it is good. I also need the kick in the butt when it isn't. I try not to let it override my life, but I can't do it once a week. :o
