The Beck Diet Solution (support for those reading the book)
This thread is mainly to discuss the following:
The Beck Diet Solution Train Your Brain to Think Like a Thin Person by Judith S. Beck, Ph.D. The book takes you through a series of cognitive therapy exercises each day. Every step is important so start in the beginning and go through each one thoroughly and feel free to share thoughts/ideas/ask for support, etc. We are all starting at different times and points. Those who have read and completed the entire book to those who have just started on page 1. Chime in and we can get our mental attitude toward this Medi Lifestyle in check!!! Let's strengthen those resistance muscles and get rid of those sabotaging thoughts! We are in this together! Ready, set, COMMIT!

I'm going to start out by sharing my Advantages Response Card (s).
Below I have listed some of the major reasons why I would like to lose/maintain weight. I wrote them on individual business-sized cards because I just like the way they feel in my hand and by having one reason on each card, I can focus on it individually. I've set an alarm at 3:00 and at 9:00 (my hardest times) to review them. 1. more confidence 2. size 4/6 3. cute clothes 4. be more social 5. wear shorts 6. wear swimsuit (we have a pool) 7. admiring looks 8. look better at the gym 9. look better dancing 10. go out more 11. be less inhibited 12. able to be assertive 13. more energy 14. shopping is fun 15. cross my legs neatly If you're comfortable, share your own list to inspire others. I know my list will grow and change. |

Hey Erin - I started a post for all books and blogs in general - not to compete with this one but because I am interesting in everything people are reading...

I am not currently reading the Beck book, although I own it so I could. I did it about a year ago with a group of women. I lost 15lbs in the 6 weeks we did it together. It's really a great book. We then sold out house, moved into a rental, and built our new house, which is what brought me to Medi this time around. I needed to loose more. I might pick it up and read it again with the new Medi WOE in mind.

I bought the Beck Diet Solution this weekend on Ebay for $1 + $3.99 shipping. I am waiting impatiently for it to get here so I can join in the conversation.

I went onto Amazon and bought the CD version of the book, it will be coming by regular shipping and handling. Hope it's here within 10 days so I can catch up with the conversations in this site! Looking forward to the dialogue. Meanwhile, I'm reading another book (easy to read) one chapter at a time at bedtime. Just started it! (see other thread re: books/blogs).

I received my book a couple of days ago, but didn't start reading it until yesterday. Today was Day 1 and here is what I wrote on my Advantages Response Card.
1. My back feels better when I am at the correct weight. 2. I feel comfortable in my clothing, which are more stylish and much smaller. 3. I am not hiding under cardigans all the time. I actually show off my arms! 4. I tuck in my shirts and wear belts. 5. I don't feel self conscious presenting in front of groups. 6. I feel more in control of my eating. 7. I feel like people think I am more in control. 8. I feel like I accomplished something important. 9. I do more things that I wasn't comfortable doing before like seeing people from my past. 10. I am less self-critical. 11. I have higher self esteem. 12. I feel better about how I look. I wrote them on a post-it note and put it in my planner, which I look at hourly. I also wrote it on a card and posted it on the side of the fridge. Erin, Lins, Debbie ~ How are you doing with the program? |

How are you guys doing??
I'm still working on eating slow and eating while I'm sitting down. That has helped a LOT! Plus I love the mindset that just because you're hungry, it doesn't mean you're going to die. My whole life, I've felt almost frantic when I'm hungry. Now I can let myself get to that super hungry stage and not panic. Also if I get really hungry, I know that if I eat a cheese stick or something small, I'll need to wait 20 minutes to let it settle. It's not about stuffing my face until I'm full at that point... if that makes sense. Suzanna, your list is great! |

Hi Erin, Suzanna, Lins, and Macauley - I have another big paper due this evening for grad school. Last one for this Ethics class. More assignments in other course I'm taking but I'll work on those tomorrow. Then next grad class begins Sunday. I keep looking at my unopened Beck Solution CDs.....

This is not really in the book, but I have learned when I get that panicky hungry feeling. I pour a glass of ice water, and drink that first, that helps the panicky feeling go away for me. Then I am able to make a healthier food choice.
I have family in town right now so I haven't had time to sit down and type out my ARC. |
