Lins - I wonder if you have a lactose allergy/intolerance
I'll have to look and see if you've been posting on our In/Out thread what you've been eating. Hope you're up and feeling better soon! Are you taking all the vitamins and drinking electrolyte water? When do you go back to the clinic? |

Oh Lins, that does sound like a bug. Yuck! I hope you start to feel better really soon! Make sure you get lots of electrolytes!
Ha ya, I had a big breakfast as well at 250 calories and now I'm hungry. Go figure. I drank my blueberry smoothie on the go (running errands, church, dr., etc) and just got home, looked in the mirror, and I have purple teeth from the berries. Pretty. Oh and I have to share - some people aren't recognizing me at all. They smile and then it hits them who I am. lol I got contacts, lightened and straightened my hair, and I have some summer color on my skin so I guess I do look different. I can't wait to get a glossy image of my before - right now I have just a black & white paper copy so I can't share. Soon!

Oh eptexy, that's funny!
lins I hope you feel better! Ok, so I made it through last night. Thankfully I took today off, AND I made mini goal 1 before the hubby gets home! SCORE! So I am utterly exhausted but happy! Time to set a new goal! ![]() |

Good for you, Ortal! Going down in dress sizes is the BEST - even better than numbers on the scale, IMO.

Ortal - Awesome! You are going to be at goal about the same time I hope to be (1st week in August I hope to be 135 lbs!)
Erin - How funny that you did errands with purple teeth....hopefully the people you saw didn't recognize you! Shelley- You made it! Done with crazy on-call work, AND got to your weight mini goal! Horray, horray, horray!!! Enjoy your day off! Drink lots of water to make up for all the interuptions, running around this past weekend. Hi Ash - Welcome! You go to the clinic that I hope to be sending my sister in law to when she's back there later in the year. BTW, you may check with Susie, I think you know her from this site, I think she works in one of the clinics in your area. She just started as a counselor there in the past few months. Her log on name is SDC2.

Hello,
This site is great - you are all so supportive and the information is really helpful! I'm new to all of this - just started Medi last Thursday - so far so good! Have done Atkins with success in years past - but this time it wasn't working for me so decided to try Medi -hoping it does the trick for me. Goal to lose 35 lbs (maybe more if I'm on a roll . Looking forward to sharing this journey with everyone! T |

I think I'm confused!!! I was just reading the newbie thread and saw a post (from Debbie, maybe????) about how to count protein....to check the # of protein grams and multiply by 4? Is that really how everyone else does it? I use the back of my medi journal where it says the types of protein and # of calories per ounce.
What about with veggies/fruits? I've been using the back of the journal for that too - but realized over the weekend that I record 25 calores, 5 g carbs for 1 cup of salad...but the back of the packaged salad I buy says 2 cups are 15 calories & 3g carbs. My clinic isn't all that "helpful" in explaining things...help!!! Also - anyone find Crystal Light hydration? I really need to up my electrolytes (as I keep getting bad muscle cramps) and HATE powerade zero (the "fake" taste doesn't do well with me!)....the clinic recommends crystal light hydration....all the crystal lights I find are for energy, immunity, etc and come with carbs....I don't want to drink carbs! Thanks! -Keri

~taw62~Welcome to the group. As Debbie says, this plan does indeed work. I lost 112 pounds, and it is getting close to a year now, and the weight is still off..it does take work and vigilance but is extremely do-able!
~keri~ I have trouble finding the CL hydration as well. If you have a Kroger's in your area, they have a hydration formula that is very similar. Also SmartWater - or the Trader Joe's version is very helpful as well. Jo Last edited by Desert-Rose7; 06-14-2010 at 09:05 AM.. |

From what I can tell, Crystal Light isn't making that hydration 5 calorie version anymore. At least my stores don't carry it. I got one pack and from then on, I can't find it anywhere.
I don't count protein grams. I count calories. 500 calories of protein is what I aim for in acute. I do count CARB grams though. Keri, I wouldn't fret too much about all of that. If you're eating 500 calories of protein and eating no more than around 600 calories a day AND you're losing... you're doing everything right. Welcome to Ash and T and everyone else that is new! |

Morning All - went to my weigh in and lost 7 pounds so getting back on track... Ash - glad you came back - my doc went over some restart things with me today that was helpful... let me know if you want it...
Erin - way to go on the clothes shopping. I remember when I first got into skinny jeans - so funny - I didn't want to take them off! They didn't even look good but I just loved that they said skinny jeans! : ) Needless to say they are currently on my shelf waiting for me I never counted protein grams - way to complicated for me. 500 calories of protein and a veggie/fruit and there it was.... I have to keep this simple. I have an app on my iphone that is pretty easy to use - called Lose It. I find it easier to keep a paper journal - and a bunch of stickies in my pocket for during the day when my journal is not with me. Thanks for touching base McBoo - see you soon!

Im looking for a new 'book' to start in the car... I use audible.com for my commutes. Id be interested to seeing your feedback on this read! I tried reading 'eating mindfully' but found it incredibly dry and boring. i also did 'Skinny ******' which was funny and informational but i found out later terribly inaccurate. A thread is a great idea! |

Crystal Light now has the Fitness ones which contain electrolytes. They come in Lemon Lime, Grape, and Strawberry Kiwi. I like the LL & SK, not a fan of the grape.

I also use the journal to count my protein, but for salad I use the back of the package, because it is fewer than 25 calories and 5 carbs. I always check my vegetables for calories and carbs, because some do vary from what they say in the medi book. |

Wow, I am happy to read some great posts today. I am not going to address everyone individually but I just wanted to say best of luck, and great job for everyone above.
I think the book thread would be awesome, I have been reading like crazy. I am feeling so much better tonight, and another friend of mine is now sick, so it was defintely a bug and not something I ate (she didn't have the same thing as me). I hope no one else in my family gets it. I was able to eat today, I'm still in ketosis (I ate some carbs yesterday because it's all I could stomach), and I am going to go on a walk in a bit. So I am happy! I am also happy to report that I need to go swimsuit shopping because mine is WAY to big on me. I have a tankini and now when I am in the pool it floats up and the elastic that is right under my bust is so loose (due to weight loss not old elastic), and it floats up over my chest..... LOL I never dreamed I would outgrow my swimsuit.

Hey girlfriends, I apologize for any confusion re: the protein grams/versus calories. In the past I wasn't eating enough protein...mostly probably because I was counting all the calories in roasted almonds, instead of taking the protein grams X 4 to get the protein calories. Since almonds have fat calories and carb calories, to take the total calories really wasn't a true picture of my protein total. See what I mean?
When I get done checking the threads I subscribe to I'll look for Erin's new book thread. I've been reading a book by one of the Biggest Loser winners, "Fat Chance." I'm not an avid reader cuz also in school, textbooks, etc but it's a good one so far! Helps to understand trainer Jillian better too! Erin, you look so fantastic! I'll check on the before and after thread so I can see closer up! I still need to dig around for my photos to be posted from when I was 190. My avatar is when I was about 176 lbs. I invented a recipe for PROTEIN FUDGCICLES! Yummy! 1 scoop Jay Robb protein powder 2/3 c tap cold water - mix together in flexible plastic cup (I covered tightly w/ cling and shook it all up) Then remove 1 tbsp of the mixture above and to it add 1/2 tsp plain gelatin and 1 tbsp 1/2 and 1/2 - mix well then add into the first mixture and stir well (may be a little lumpy) FREEZE in the plastic cup for about 1 to 2 hours and eat with spoon! YUMMY! Has LOTS of protein and very scant amount of carbs and fat Try it and let me know what you think! |

Thanks Debbie for clearing that up! Just started to worry that I wasn't counting right!
I have my weigh-in tomorrow A.M. - and for some reason, I'm so nervous about it! I have walked for at least 45 minutes (and 2 times for about 75 minutes) every day but 1 day and followed the eating precisely...but just don't "feel" like I lost this week for some reason. Hopefully it's all in my head! I am trying to hold off on getting a scale at home - because I know I'll become neurotic about weighing myself - but I find I'm becoming obsessed with the fact that I don't know what I weigh! Funny thing with my 2 year old today - we were playing tea party...and she has always, always said "coffee, no tea" when she pours my cup....today, she pretended to pour mine and said "Mama drink water....more water". Ok, so apparently even she has picked up on my changes in how I eat/drink!!!! (I thought it was so cute, that I went and washed out the tea set and together we both drank some water out of her tea cups!). Off to the treadmill....Keri |

Keri - How adorable!! (The tea party conversation) I have such wonderful memories of all those kinds of times with my daughters! We continued some tea parties til they were about 9 and 11 years old. I'm even keeping the garage sale prom dresses they used as "gowns" for our parties...they were pretty conservative and victorian looking...and I had gloves and hats for all of us too. They are now 23 and 25 years old and off on their own! They both called yesterday...hmmmm....love them so much! My oldest just finished a 1/2 triathalon on Saturday! She'll do a full triathalon in August and we'll go up to see her swim/bike/run it! Youngest will be home next weekend for Father's Day....on Saturday she and I will have a shopping date! Fun, fun, fun. Enjoy your 2 year old. We are so blessed to have our kiddos!

I went on my run last night (I go every other night), and my 7 yr old wanted to go with me. She won a medal for all of her 1st grade for the most laps during gym this year and she told me she doesn't want to stop running. I am so happy that my running is helping her to also have a love for running. On my runs I do 1 mile laps around my neighborhood ending at my house each mile so I can drink some water (it's 85 degrees when I run), so on the last lap I got her and she went with me. I had to go a little slower and walk more, but it was so worth it to have her running with me. I think I will start doing 4 miles, the first 3 alone and then let her join me for my last lap. That's good for me and for her. Special memories made!
