Biotin

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone is taking biotin suppliments for hair loss. That is the suggestion from the "Hair Loss" thread. I told my clinic that I have been losing a lot of hair and aparently the NP didn't think enough of it to even talk to me and gave me no help at all. It's really upsetting to me and I don't want to stop because of it. I take all of the suppliments and get both shots every week. I'm going to my regular doctor this week to ask what he thinks. I'm really disappointed in my clinic for their lack of support with this. So if anyone has any input on their experience with biotin, I would really appreciate it!

Thanks!

Re: Biotin

I asked at my clinic last week and they told me to take Biotin. I just started, but he told me it would take awhile before noticing any results. I would be unnerved by the lack of support from the clinic on this!

B1/B6

If anyone is taking B1 and B6 supplements for the shot, do you take it everyday? Or just once or twice a week, like you would the injection? Thanks for any help!

Hey everyone... hope you guys had a fabulous weekend. Philly was fun. spent way too much money and drove WAY too much.

Food wise I am pleased with myself. I didnt write out the calories for everything but I was very.... aware of what I ate. I was completely in control. Friday night we went to the cheesecake factory and I just picked at some apps (artichoke, stuffed mushrooms.... no dipping sauces) and had lettuce wraps (well had a couple of bites, i was stuffed and I know they arent that good for you). While everyone else ate ridiculously rich meals and cheesecake.

Saturday I had a hot dog, some salads, and we went out for BBQ at night where I didnt touch any of the starchy sides that my meal came with, and my only 'cheat' was trying a dab of a few of the BBQ sauces. I stayed in ketosis the whole time and we walked a LOT in addition to the late night walk/jogs i took by the house we were staying at. Sunday we were on the road and I got a HUGE (dry) salad from perkins I picked at throughout the day.

My weight is down this morning, im really happy. My boyfriend couldnt believe my willpower which didnt even feel like a struggle to me. Thats what amazed me... it wasnt even Hard. Hope to break into the 150s by Wednesday....

I do them every other week. They charge $10 for them and to be honest. I don't see any benefit but do them anyway.

I get the B1/6 shot once a week at the clinic, but I also take a B complex vitamin daily because I don't go back for the second shot. B vitamins are water soluble so what you don't absorb just gets flushed out, there isn't any harm in taking one a day on top of getting once shot a week. But I do think it helps my energy level.

I am just about out of all the vitamins/supplements I got at my initial consult - does everyone keep buying their stuff from Medi? Or is it cheaper for me to buy my own? And if you buy your own - where do you get them? What's recommended?

Thanks!

I will probably buy my multi vitamins from them because they don't make me sick like everything else I've ever tried! I did purchase the omegas and calciums separately and most recently, the fat burners. I found those Mega T fat burners but am unsure of whether I'll continue to purchase now that I'm on maintenance. I've always been skeptical of supplements that say they'll "burn fat" but am just doing it for the energy.

Since you have more to lose, just make sure whatever you buy is similar to their products. The dosage does support the decrease in carbs/calories. If in doubt, ask your clinic!

I take the sublingual B vitamin daily. Are you talking about the medi melt? I don't take the shots.

Ortal - welcome back! Sounds like you did awesome! Vacations/traveling is a scary experience for me so I admire your determination!

Hi everyone! Tomorrow I go in for my end of week 1 weigh-in. I am very excited to see how much I have lost, and get on some veggies/fruits! The last few days have been a little rough with only eating the protein, but I am feeling much better today. I am glad to have found you all, because reading everyone elses struggles and triumphs def helps me feel not alone.

yes, it really is great. We got home in time to play wiffleball but it got rained out so we went to TGIFridays (which wasnt in the plan). I bought food for my daughter and sipped my diet coke while everyone chowed on half price appetizers. I wasnt even hungry.

... and I kind of felt an un-deserved sense of superiority when I saw (the only other) girl eat a whole plate of nachos, a 700 calorie margarita, and some sliders and some potato skins. Im not the catty type, but this girl LIES about her weight, and when I confided in her i was dieting and wanted to get to 140# she was like "oh honey, youll never get to 140, I cant even get to 140".... yeah. this is why. So I sat there, smug, and enjoyed my new-found sense of self control while exchanging smug looks with my boyfriend

I just bought some B1 and B6 OTC vitamins to take instead of the shots, since those are the vitamins in the shots. I just can't afford the extra $10 a week.

I asked my clinic about Medi Melts and they said they weren't for acute phase, so not an option...

Jennifer good luck!

I am still taking the Medi vitamins because they are free (at least that's what my clinic said), I just bought my second fat burn bottle. I am so skeptical of OTC "diet pills" so I decided to stick with the Medi fat burners, but I did buy an OTC Calcium at Sams. And I take an OTC B complex too.

NSV here too - I bought (and fit into) a size 8 pair of pants, low riding which I've never worn and a lovely black dress, also a size 8, to wear to a reception this weekend. My husband couldn't believe it. And neither can I. I've never been in an 8. Even when I weighed less, my body has never had this shape. Ever. I'm so motivated!!!!

It is so good to be able to come here and read everyone's posts for motivation. I only had a 1/2 pound loss this week and was very discouraged. But after reading this board, I feel strengthened even more to continue on and be persistent. Now to get in more exercise. I has been way too hot here in Naples to ride my bike as far. Looks like the hot, humid weather is here to stay. I'm bringing my treadmill inside tomorrow. Thanks everyone here. You are so very helpful.

I am so worried about my weight-in this week. I ate on plan all week, but I didn't get as much excercise in because my dh was gone and I didn't have anyone to watch my 3 girls. I did as much as I could, but it wasn't the running that I have been doing. But I also stuck to the plan last week and DID run, and still gained a pound (due to TOM I'm sure), but all that has my confidence all out of whack. My clothes are all too big on me and I need to go buy some new clothes so I have something to judge my NSV's (I like that), on. My wedding ring slides off my finger all the time, and my pile of clothes that are too big for me keeps growing and growing, but still it's almost like I can't belive it.

I never really knew how much lossing weight can deal with not only your physical body but your mental thinking about yourself and your body.

thats fabulous!! I tried on a "medium" dress from armani exchange this weekend and was a bit lumpy around the hips (and the color was all wrong) but it FIT! my boyfriend was shocked cause thats his favorite up-scale store and I always just mess with the bracelets/earrings/etc and never try anything else or buy anything when he shops. Just me trying it on was like whoaaa. He said if he sees it in black online hell buy it for me.

Yay for size 8s! Yay for shopping, lol. I REALLY need new clothes, Im in between sizes and everything is too big or too small, but I am resisting for now. I did just get a FAB coach bag though... I love coach. it was my 'you lost 20 lbs' gift.

I was up a bit this morning but I hope thats just water cause I had a 'good day' yesterday. If I break under 150 Ill be thrilled.

Random thoughts: tuna, tuna, tuna. What the heck am I going to do to these tuna steaks??? They're really pretty awesome. 180 cals, 1.5g fat, 0 sat fat, 40g protein, and NO carbs. Can't get much better than that for 6 oz. Now, what to do with them?

Congrats to all the NSVs!!! Love those!!!

I've had a bit of an off couple of days. I've been super tired and bloated. Adding carbs in is fun but kicking my butt. I also haven't exercised which is probably half my problem. My workout buddy is in Disney so I've been avoiding the gym. Not an excuse - it is what it is. The scale says I'm at 131.8. I don't know how all this works but if I have to stop at 1000 calories, I'm going to be upset. Plus I feel a little lost in maintenance. I didn't receive as much guidance as I would have liked but partly because I wasn't sure what questions to ask I guess. I'll have to write my questions down for Friday when I get to talk to the NP.

As for the tuna, where'd you get the steaks? I saw some at Costco and was thinking about getting some. I found a South Beach recipe the other day that I was planning to tweak and try. I'm leaving off the mango and the red bell pepper it calls for. You could also skewer them with medi friendly veggies and fruits. I love tuna on the grill!!!

Grilled Tuna with Teriyaki Glaze

1/4c light soy sauce
3T chicken broth
1T fresh ginger
3 cloves garlic, minced
4 tuna steaks

In a small shallow bowl, combine the soy sauce, broth, ginger, and garlic. Turn the tuna to coat both sides. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

Coat a grill rack or broiler pan rack with cooking spray. Preheat the grill or broiler to medium.

Place the tuna on the prepared rack or pan. Discard the marinade. Grill or broil for 4 minutes per side, or until the tuna is just opaque.

Marinade would add about 15 calories per serving to your tuna assuming that all of it was used.

Thanks for the welcomes all, and Dana we could be passing each other and not knowing it!

I'm on day 4 and it's really been great so far, not a craving at all! According to my scale (even though that's a no-no) it's 2 pounds already. You have NO IDEA how long it takes me to lose 2 pounds with my low thyroid problem!!! I'm thrilled!!

Can't wait to see how Jennifer did, and I'm loving watching Lin's stats cuz that's about where I started and hope I'm writing 135 before ya know it.

Erin, since you are in Texas, do you have an HEB near you? They have all sorts of HEB brand items that are awesome! I love HEB, don't think I could move somewhere they didn't have one. I live coastal Texas and HEB has their own fishing/shrimp boats so their seafood collection is incredible. Good luck and thanks for the recipe. I'm making it now!!!

Not an HEB but I do have a Central Market which is their upscale version of their stores. Their fish department is amazing so it makes sense that they have their own boats!

Let me know how the recipe is!

I had my Week 4 weigh-in this morning, down another 3.1 lbs! I was nervous going this morning since its my TOM and I wasn't sure if I would be retaining a lot of water or not, but it was the same water % as last week, so another 3 lbs of fat gone!!!! I am astounded that I was able to lose 23.2 lbs, never mind the fact that it was in 4 weeks time! This program completely works if you give it your all, I wonder if my amazement in that will ever end!

My only problem is that I really need to up my exercising - I treadmill at night during the week since my husband isn't home, and by the time I get my kids to bed I'm so exhausted that 30 minutes is about all I can handle. I do about an hour (outside walking) on the weekends...but really wish I could motivate myself for even 45 minutes during the week. I have a TV in front of the treadmill, "Losing it with Jillian" is tonight's motivation...let's see if I can last the entire show!
