Congrats to you, Jerry! My friend, you are such an amazing inspiration to everyone. I, too, began my journey in Dec 2008, and I identify with you in many ways. I only lost 112 pounds but it still makes my life so much easier. I am back to the weight I was 15 years ago when I moved to AZ.

You will always be my inspiration, Jerry! You are the best!

Hi, I just started this program in May and I am in week 1. Nervous but determined to stick with it. I weigh in on Wednesday to see how I did my first week. So far I have been doing pretty well and I keep repeating that is is just one week worth of straight protein. I use ****** plus the diary to track my meals. Does anyone else have an idea of the upper limit of fats or carbs we should be eating? I know we are supposed to keep a lid on the carbs and so far I have not been over 11g. I am assuming that we should not each too much fat or we will be burning that instead of the fat on our bodies. Anyways, good luck to everyone and this forum is a lifesaver since there is so little info out there for this particular program.

I finished week 1 today. I had my first weigh in this past Thursday though at day 4 and was down 6.7 pounds, which I was pleased with. Wanting to see what I had lost after the full week 1, I weighed myself today and gained 4 pounds. I don't believe there is much of a difference between my scales and those at Medi as I checked myself after Medi weighed me and it was the same. The only thing I can think of is, I also started my time of the month today. I never paid attention to how much water retention or weight gain I normally have when I get my TOM, but it was heart breaking and discouraging to see a 4 pound weight gain in one day. Any thoughts????

Welcome kka! Congrats on your first week's loss! I would love to give you some friendly advice. You may want to stay away from the scale at home. I never, under any circumstances weigh in any other time than at my clinic appts. One of the reasons being- exactly what you experienced. TOM can certainly play a large role in loss/gain. Last week I gained 4lbs in water due to impending TOM, but lost fat weight. This week I lost those same 4lbs in water- go figure! It can make you overly emotional and cause you to make decisions about your eating based on that home weigh in. If it's a loss, you may become lax in your eating. Likewise, if it's a gain-you may deprive yourself of much needed calories because you think you need to eat less.

I have a sis in law and hubby on plan w. me. Sis in law was a compulsive "weigher". She was an emotional wreck everyday she was on plan. Ultimately, she ended up stopping the program (not that this couldn't have happened on another plan). Hubby started of weighing in everyday, but soon learned his lesson as he was not eating his full 500 on days he thought his weight was up. I'm happy to say, he's since stopped doing that and has continued on plan with a great 65lb weight loss!!

I wish you much success on MWL. It's a fabulous program
that has completely changed my life. Keep coming to these boards and checkig in. I have gotten so much information/encouragement here!!

Hi ladies/gents Welcome to Monday!

I had kind of a rough weekend. I grazed a lot... I was at about 800-900 calories a day. I didn't eat 'bad foods', just a lot of the good stuff (chicken, turkey pepp, deli turkey). Welps its Monday, weigh in is Wednesday, and Im fully motivated to have a good 3 days so I can still be down.

AND i left my vitamins somewhere and couldn't take them which led to some HORRID leg cramps in the middle of the night. lesson learned huh? I have backup athome now.

many medi weightloss clinics take 2 lbs off your weight for clothes, which i didnt know till i asked why there was such a huge discrepancy between my home and MWL scale. That might be part of it.

Helpful tips from a friend. I hope you don't mind me sharing this here. A friend of mine did medi a few years ago and has kept all the weight off. She also is a stay-at-home mom like I am and was struggling with feeding herself, and her family healthy meals, expecially when it came to things like spaghetti that was a favorite of her kids. So here it was she told me to do. She got the extra lean ground beef, or turkey and pattied some of it for burgers, and browned some of it for things like spaghetti. Then on nights that she fed her family spaghetti, she would pull out a bag of already measured lean meat from the freezer, add a 1/4 cup sugar free spaghetti sauce to hers, and make whole wheat spaghetti for the rest of her family. Sames goes with bugers on the grill. If someone invited them over for a BBQ she would take her already premeasured frozen burger over, and ask if they could grill that up for her. She just learned that the cheaper ground beef was so high in fat that it was easier just to take her own.

So I now have a freezer full of premeaured meats that are healthier to either take places with me, or to use when I need to edit my families meal a bit. For example tonight I am having sloppy joes with my family. I am using ground turkey for mine, but my hubby doesn't like it, so he and my girls are having ground beef, the sauce is the same. Mine is already cooked, I'll just cook theirs at dinner time.

It also works great for quick lunches, or times when you know pizza will be served, just grab a baggy from your freezer and head out the door.

Ugh I hate hormones. I am a few days before my TOM and I am craving chocolate. I KNOW it's just a craving. I'm not hungry at all. And I did have a chocolate medi shake for breakfast hoping that would help but it didn't. I refuse to give in to my craving today. And thankfully I have lots to keep my busy today, but I will be home for most of it due to my car being in the shop. If it doesn't rain I will take a walk if I have to get out of the house. Lets home my 2 year old is cheerfull today, I don't need any more stress.

Just my vent for the day, and I figured if I came on here and talked through it that I would be even more motivated to stick to plan. Thanks everyone for being supportive!

Great job, Cori!!! What was your visit like? We go to the same clinic and am just curious. Did they make you breathe into something to see how many calories you burn? How many calories are you up to? I had a dream (nightmare) last night that my maintenance calories were 400 and I was just sobbing! LOL

I just wanted to take a minute and introduce myself - as I just found this board today! I am starting Week 3 of Medi tomorrow, and have thus far lost 18.1 lbs. I am a SAHM to 2 beautiful little girls (ages 4 1/2 and 2) and have decided that I owe it to myself to be in the best health possible so that hopefully they will grow up with the right eating habits (rather than the ones that have gotten me to the point I am at). I have spent so much time today reading through this board, you all seem like such a wonderful support system - so glad to have found you!

I look forward to joining in....one quick question (that I forgot to ask at the clinic today) - when do we get to a point where we can add in milk to our coffee?? The warm weather is here in RI and I would give just about anything to go get an iced coffee with skim milk (since that's always how I've drank it!). The FF/SF coffee-mate just isn't cutting it!

Thanks!

I passed a Starbucks today and thought the same thing!

I would just make your own with unsweetened vanilla almond milk for awhile. Skim milk is very carby and I'm not planning on drinking it until maintenance.

Welcome mommy2princesses! You're going to love this board. Everyone is SO motivating! Regarding the skim milk...My clinic told me when I started no milk. So I haven't had any. And I didn't think I'd miss it since I wasn't a big milk drinker, but I do. A lot of people use the almond milk, I haven't tried it yet. Good luck and make sure to post with your progress!

On another note...I'm happy to say I made up for my low loss last week. I was pretty relieved. It was all water weight last week, so I hoped to see it this time. It's really good to know that even though you have a low loss week, if you're sticking with the program it will all even out. Phew!

AND if I keep my goal where it is, I'm just over halfway! That also feels great. But we never really established a goal for me at the clinic...I just kinda picked it...so it will probably change. We'll see. I'm happy enough with it right now!

Jerome,

I haven't been on for a while, but I am so excited for you. What was the secret in shedding the last 7 pounds? I wish you the best in maintenance and please stay active on this forum. Maintenance is a whole new bucket of worms. I feel like I have it under control, but it took a while. I went back to some of my old food friends for a while, but realized that I don't need those foods anymore.

Brian and I weigh every day and adjust our eating accordingly. We have also vowed to return to acute phase at Medi should we gain 10 pounds. This will be part of our weight management. I am confident that I will never be overweight again.

Again congratulations Cori! SO HAPPY for you! 60 lbs in less than 5 months! Have you been exercising regularly?

We started about the same time, but I'm about 20 years older than you. As of today my loss is 36.6 lbs, and I'm really happy with that. I haven't been exercising faithfully, just one to sometimes three times a week.

Yesterday I started seeing a counselor recommended by my MWL clinic about the issues I've had about body image and feeling like I don't "deserve this" (meaning to look great and feel unlayered/exposed almost without as much body fat). It will be a process.... Has a lot to do with negative self-talk and putting myself last, and doing it for others (I tried to be healthy but lacked moderation when going back to maintainence). Felt like I rebelled so many times and had an "all or nothing at all" mindset. Has anyone else felt this way? What did YOU do? I've dealt with yo-yo stuff since I was age 19 and over the years have done exercise/weight watchers/phen-fen/about 4 months of nutrasystem/Circle of Discipline (Christian Weight Watcher's kind of --was most successful with that)/you name it....I want that yo-yo behavior to be DONE!

Being on this website has been the truly best thing ever......I've done groups or exercise with friends in the past but they'd not show up consistently and then I'd cave in too. You all have BEEN here and we've been supportive of one another in an incredible way. And, Mediweightloss IS the one that works! It makes sense how it works!

Hope you all have a wonderful day!!

Hey Debbie

I too know your pain. Ive been chubby all my life, but now I look back at it and I was 155 the first time i started Weight Watchers (which i wish i was now!!) and Id loose it, gain it back (and then some). over and over.

The first time I quit WW i was 6 lbs from goal, and i had a boy treat me very badly. I figured if it doesnt help that Im pretty, whats the point? Iknow this isnt the best way of thinking but hey I was a 18 y/o girl. Since then Ive been doing EVERYTHIGN and ONLY medi has worked. I too see myself in a funk and have this all or nothign mindset that I have to snap myself out of.

These are what I tell myself:
-if i overate one day, I cant say 'oh f*ck it', cause thatll just make it worse.
-70$ is a lot to blow to cheat on a night out.
-The older I get the harder it will be to lose weight.

Ortal - Like you I "thought" I was so chubby looking whenever I wasn't at goal, so I spent most of my adult life going between 129-145 lbs, more 140's most often. And now I'd love to be 140! HA! When I was 39 years old I started medication to keep my heart from racing (I have mitral valve prolapse) and that slowed me down that I cheated myself from doing exercise because my HR could no longer reach target level (but really was aerobic, but just could never get to the 140-170 range again due to the medication) so I lied to myself that exercise wasn't worth it and stopped exercising. Well, then I began to reach 150 + lbs. Then started menopause early (also at age 39) and took hormones for years. Then went through breast cancer stuff almost three years ago, cured after bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction surgery....so, now I'm taking control of my life again! Having this support base is incredible! Actually, this photo on the left was taken about 6 wks before my mastectomies. I had just had my breast biopsy done and didn't have the results back at this point. In the photo I'm also in my high 170's....I then reached up to 190 lbs. I don't have a digital camera, but someday will post true before and after photos!

Debbie isnt it crazy how we think we look a certain way, then 30 lbs later we WISH we were there again? Hell, im down about 20 lbs, at 155 that woulda put me at my goal weight. now I have to do all this just to get there again.

I CANNOT stop this time. EVERY TIME i stop, I gain it back and then some. I REFUSE to throw out another year/all this money. REFUSE.
