Hey Susan,
My DS (7) and I are cruising to Mexico and Labadee(sp?) on the new Royal Carribean ship Oasis of the Seas...I think the ship was supposed to also go to Jamaica, but b/c the ship is so big some ports had to be made bigger and the port is not ready. I live b/w Ft. Lauderdale and Boca Raton. I love the gulf beach though...that white, soft sand, Bea U Ti Ful! Went there for Spring Break in college...don't remember much, but I do remember that sand, ahhhhh |

Building muscle is a good thing for weight loss because it increases your metabolism. I do not believe that light strength training will slow down your weight loss. I have done it 3 days a week, 30 minutes, using 10-12 pound weights, for the past 2 years. Not only did it give me firm and defined arms, legs, butt and stomach, it elevated my metabolism. The more muscle you have the more calories you will burn. I also do a 45-60 minute spin class 3 days a week.
According to my clinic, you can overdo cardio for the number of calories you eating. You should discuss your workout schedule with your counselor/clinic to make sure you don't fall into that catagory.

Anyway about the weight training, I will tell you this. I am now at the weight that I was three years ago (after I lost 30 lbs then and then gained after that another 60 lbs at my heaviest five months ago) but in looking at my photos then at 230 lbs and comparing to myself now. It is sure different even though I weighed the same both times. I did NOT do any exercise or weight training back then, just had the 30 lb weight loss from the diet. But this time, I did BOTH the MWL and exercise/weight train. I look so much better NOW even after more than 60 lb weight loss as being more toned all over and look a lot thinner, even the same clothes I wore then fit better on me now even though I was the same weight both times. So the weight training and exercise definitely makes a big difference. (Like Susie from Orlando, I use only the 5 to 10 pound weights for 30 minutes for 2 to 3 times a week, it's a breeze)

This morning, for the first time, my ketosis went from moderate to small. What should I look at to figure out what caused it? I haven't eaten anything out of the ordinary and carbs are pretty much consistent. |

So many good posts, it took awhile to me read and catch up.
SCGirl: I'm so sorry I caused you to worry! I have a feeling I totally overdid my cardio for the calories I ate even though I definitely ate about 300 more than normal. My Thursday session was 40 min on the elliptical with a high resistance (enough for to feel it but not painful) then I did some arm weight training. I surf and I'm working up my paddle muscles for the next month so paddling is easier in when i get in the water in May. I used too much weight by accident though and I thought my arms were going to fall off!I'm definitely going to the gym tonight but I'm going to tone down my cardio for the time being. Just going to do regular walking for 30 min or 20 min with 10 min row machine then light weight training. I agree with Mary. Weight training is really good for our bodies. Funny how you can be the same weight in lbs but look different due to toning.

Good Morning Txntv,
I personally wouldn't worry too much about the difference in ketosis. When I first started I stayed in the moderate for awhile and dropped to small w/o doing anything different. The doc said it didn't really matter where in Ketosis you are as long as you were in it. I was there for awhile and now seem to be in the moderate off and on. When in Ketosis, regardless if you are in trace, small, moderate...you are still burning fat. Ketosis is Ketosis. I think sometimes it is affected due to water intake from the previous day, TOM, midcycle, maybe you ate carbs later than usual or maybe you body is just adjusting. I try not to worry much as long as I am SOME form of Ketosis, I don't really change my eating and things always seem to balance out. If you are concerned, maybe back off of a few carbs for a day or so and see if that makes a difference. Hope this helps, SCgirl |

Agree with you SCgirl, as long as you are in some ketosis it doesn't matter, some get all caught up in the ketosis thing, not to worry if you are losing weight. Trace is good, as is moderate. Just keep following the program and it will work.

Well they are taking away my appetite suppressant. WAA!
And about the muscle building - I shouldn't have said what I said. I honestly don't want to discourage anyone. Maybe it was sheer coincidence. I talked to the counselor about it and she recommended I drink more water because I probably retain fluid more than most when I build muscle. I'm continuing to work out 4 times a week with cardio / weight circuit and yoga.

Thank you and SCgirl! First time it's done something different... so it makes a girl freak out especially one whose numbers are slow to come off (while fat and muscle move in the right direction).

I'm very upset and disappointed. Had my weight in today and I gained 2.6 lbs! The doctor was in the office and saw my journal, nothing unusual and I'm on TOM. I lost 2.2lbs of fat but gained 3.5lbs of water and last week although I lost I also gained 3lbs of water. Ugh I'm really frustrated and disappointed. I wanted to be in the 100's by May 24th but it's not looking good at all
![]() I'm in tears in disappointment I have lost 31.8lbs of fat and a total of 35lbs in 4mnths ugh. Going back to week 1!!! Have no one else but myself to blame

Went to the gym tonight for 2 hrs, an hour on the treadmill jogging at 3.8 and an hour of kickboxing. Got all 128 ozs of water in and stayed at 550 calories. FOCUSED 100% to make a big difference next week!

Today was day 12 and I am feeling so great! I went on a 4 mile walk this morning which was so nice! I am looking forward to running again soon. I can even tell that my clothes are already a little bit looser. I was really worried when I started this program that it was going to be hard and that I wasn't going to be able to do it, but I am loving it so far. It's a lot easier than I thought it would be. I've even been to two parties and not eatten a thing, except for what I took for myself to eat. And everyone around me has been so supportive of my "low carb" diet. It's just been a wonderful experiance so far.

Hey Mary.....I love the avatar of the girl in the shades especially living in FL but finally was able to change my avatar after my weigh-in today!!!! YAY!!
The doc actually weighed me in and had my consult with me. I had hoped for a larger loss especially with going back to Week 1 for a few days but I am very happy today! He said I was doing great, I had no gains over the past 8 weeks and he wished more clients had the optimistic attitude and accountability that I have. Needless to say, I needed that encouragement to move forward. I'm off to walk with Leslie Sansone's DVD! Hope everyone has a fantastic day! Way to go, Jerry!! Keep us posted!

Sigh. Today's weigh in day. I know, I know... y'all say I didn't have a lot to lose in the first place... but it's not like I'm trying to lose the final 10 lbs. Far from it.
