Mary! I'm so sorry you are suffering with shingles....sounds awful! I've been hearing about our local grocery store offering shingles vaccinations in the pharmacy....should I look into that for myself? I had chicken pox as a kid. I'm 54. Wouldn't hurt I guess! Please DO take care and don't try to get back at exercise til you are well recovered!

- So excited for oldest DD's wedding shower this Saturday that I am planning. But came down 2 wks ago with a sinus infection on the left and it's the nastiest one I've had in 25 years !!! I've had antibiotics changed last wk, doing lots of interventions (don't want to describe! ), and having surgery this Thursday afternoon in the office to "balloon" it open and get cleared out. So sick, sick, sick... Please PRAY!! Dr says I'll be fine for company on Friday AM!! Want to be bright and cheery for my bride-to-be daughter, her fiance, other DD and her boyfriend!! I haven't been able to exercise for about 8 days. And in the past 5 days take LOTS of naps...YUCK!

7-19-11
B - 3 pcs bacon, 1 egg fried
S - small Sonic diet Sprite w/strawberries
L - Jay Robb vanilla protein shake mixed with Diet Dr Pepper
D - Pure Protein peanut caramel bar
S - 2 bites of broccoli mix, 1 tiny pc watermelon

MWL appt today with the doctor discussing frustrations, etc....She says I've done well to keep off what I have in the past 1 year and not regain...says MWL is now doing studies to vamp up their maintenance! Guess I'll still try to go monthly.

Deb ,Iam sorry to hear about your health issue too! Oh boy I know the pain of a nasty sinus infection. I hope you got the right antibiotic now. Hope you are on the mend for your family company. Great news on keeping your weight off for a year that says alot about your drive to stay on track.

B: eas shake

Cathy, the grilled eggplant pizza sounds yummy!!

Mary, you look so awesome in your avatar! What an accomplishment!! I would post that photo on my fridge! (In fact, after my company leaves I might just post it, yours and mine! on my fridge!)

My MWL doctor and I had a long discussion yesterday during my clinic visit about comparing Weight Watchers with MWL and how they have unlimited fruits and veggies and how this is NOT possible for me with Insulin Resistance. It can be way, way too many carbs, even if they are vitamin filled! I have to limit carbs right now to 25 grams daily, occasionally up to 30 grams. And in maintenance, for the rest of my life, try to stay less than 50 grams of carbs due to insulin resistance I will have for the rest of my life even though I'm on Metformin. It's actually the limits they recommend for all their MWL patients. Limiting carbs makes my body BURN fat. From 2009 til now I've burned off 25% of my body's fat! That makes me much healthier. I need to keep telling myself that when I'm tempted to think I can go back to my old eating habits!! It's okay to have a "planned splurge", she says, but I must save up my carbs as best I can for it and then get back on plan as soon as I can. Gulp! ....this WILL always be a struggle!

Thanks Cathy....I made up my own by doctoring an example but I really like the idea of adding lime jello!! That will make it thicker and tangier!

Had my balloon sinus surgery today and he ended up having to pull out the surgical instruments and get agressive on all four major sinuses, but particularly my stubborn right frontal sinus which had been plugged up for years due to scar tissue. Such discomfort and I'm so glad it's over! They worked so hard....it was supposed to take 30-45 minutes...ended up taking over 2 hours. One of the worst scarred, complicated cases they'd seen, and I was so glad they could do it successfully--and no resultant complications. Doc said no wonder I've been sick for so long! Thank you for your prayers and best wishes! I'm back on antibiotics and all kinds of procedures to keep them open.

Deb, Wow! Iam glad the surgery is over and now you can start to feel better. I hope this will be it for you and your sinuses. Make sure to drink which Iam sure you know, your water with your antibiotics. I will be thinking of you in my prayers for a quick recovery. Do you have to eat anything special for food during your healing time or is it the regular diet?

Cathy

B: eggwhites w/ veggie slice
L: deli chicken 3oz
D: baked cod w/ salad
S: greek yogart w/ pb2 and sf choc syrup
E: 6 week abs

Thank you for your thoughts, words, and prayers Cathy. Yes, unfortunately I have to have a diet of NO milk products for a while because I'm taking an ADDITIONAL round of Cipro....it gets deactivated with milk. My MWL preferred easy diet includes whey protein shakes, Pure Protein bars, cheeses, yogurt, etc....so I have to do other options right now. Unfortunately I'm sick of meat right now, so I'm eating CARBS. Yikes! This too shall pass.....

Hi you two.......just checking in. Thanks for the kind words, and thoughts. I FINALLY got to sleep last night, and for me sleep is what keeps me going. I can deal with almost anything as long as I can sleep at night. I'm a nasty mess when I'm not sleeping enough.......just ask my family!

I haven't been keeping on plan (but doing OK) or exercising, but I'm hoping that once I'm totally back on plan, and exercising that I'll drop the stubborn weight I've been working on! I just can't deal with it all right now

Hi Mary and Cathy--All this talk about sleep is making me ready for a nap! No, really---I was thinking of checking in here and then taking a nap, now I will for sure....healing takes a lot of energy. Plus I think I'm resting up for the long trip my youngest DD and I will make to TX today; leaving about 2pm for a 10 hour journey to oldest DD's home (the bride) and we will do last minute planning for the wedding. I'll also bring back her dress, etc so she doesn't have to fly it out to the wedding location later and pay for extra luggage. I'm so, So, SO thankful that school doesn't resume for me until after the wedding!! I need all my brain cells to stay organized, heal up, work, and go through the wedding, which will be in Colorado.
I noticed that there have been over 37,000 views of this particular thread. I know alot more people are reading this site than are submitting replies. HELLO to all! I hope they are feeling inspired to exercise and eat right! I'm thinking of getting a swim in about noon at the city pool....I've been doing leg exercises and swimming "in place" against the current of the water coming off the slide....it's as if I have my own "endless pool"...cuz I can swim against the current, NOT go anywhere because the current pushes against me, and yet do swim strides/kicks/etc aggressively!! (I'm on the swim side of the rope that sections off the slide side of the pool....so I'm about 10 ft from the pool, yet the current is still enough to give me a good workout...and I'm staying COOL!!) I really miss eating my whey product weight loss foods....have gained about 3 lbs eating these carbs and sleeping so much
Cathy, are you working? What do you do? It seems like you are always so organized with your eating, drinking water, and exercise. I'm so PROUD of you!! Are you a Red Sox fan? I'm going to PM you something...
Take care,
Debbie

Hi All!

I had to add one more item of food to this day. I got hungry and ended up cooking up some turkey pepperoni in the microwave. That seem to have hit the spot and now Iam going to bed, so Iam not tempted to eat anymore today!

Deb I sent you a PM.

Good Night

I THINK I'm back!!! I actually slept in my own bed last night (I've been sleeping in the spare room, because....well, I wasn't sleeping!) I think I've gained about 4 pounds back . I know part of it is that I haven't been drinking nearly enough PLAIN water, but iced coffee was one of the treats I was serving at my PITY PARTIES! I've also been eating too many carbs in the form of fruits, and veggies, so I guess it could be worse! We're out of peanut butter, so I'm safe there. Bill and I did split a "peanut butter ice cream bar" that they were giving out at Sam's yesterday. I'm trying to really psych myself up for Monday when I'll start again in earnest.....exercising and everything!

Cathy that IS the right attitude! I have noticed that you have been eating a lot of shrimp (done today) and while shrimp is a VERY low fat protein. I ALWAYS had to be careful NOT to eat it the day before weigh-in, because I would ALWAYS gain, or at least not lose! Finally when I was really frustrated because I KNEW I was following the plan to a T the nurse looked at my diary and pointed out the thing about shrimp.....she said it common to NOT lose as much when eating shrimp (sodium or something) Once I had that info I just kept eating shrimp......just NOT right before weigh-in! Do you suppose that mixing things up a little more would help your scale move? Maybe having more of the moderate, to higher fat proteins on one day then the next switching back to low fat? I know I'm sure NOT the person to be giving advice, since I've been at this over a year and still haven't gotten to goal.

Thanks Mary for you info on the shrimp. Iam done with them and will see if I remove them for awhile if that helps. I did weigh myself this am and Iam down 2 pounds 142! Iam the same Mary with being in a size 10 and can't remember the last time I had that size on. I too am 5'2" so I have a ways to go, I have my goal at 130 but really I should be 120-125. I don't want to get myself crazy, just healthy. Ok then here is to a good day!

B: eggwhites & 1 egg w/ veggie slice
L: eas shake
D: steak w/ salad
S: G&G crackers w/ lc wedge
Water hope to get in 3 liters
E: shred level3 w/ 6 week abs

Bill and I did split a "peanut butter ice cream bar" that they were giving out at Sam's yesterday. I'm trying to really psych myself up for Monday when I'll start again in earnest.....exercising and everything!
I want to be in this challenge with you too, Mary! Due to sinus infection, sinus surgery, dealing with DD pre-wedding stress (I was in no way that kind of bride 33, almost 34 years ago!), being away from home lots the past couple weeks, having company...I've NOT met my own goal of eating on plan and exercising....at ALL and have been eating entirely too many carbs! A month from now (just a few days after DD's wedding) I start with students again and grad school starts again....and I know how practically impossible it will be to exercise regularly =( (Thankfully this will be my LAST semester in grad school!)

The pool was CLOSED??? It amazes me, that towns close the pool because it's too hot My nephew told me the same thing about his town! You'd think they'd want to have it open on these REALLY hot days!

Hi Mary....Yes....the Pump Room has a broken part. I called the city offices today and they said the part is being delivered today or tomorrow morning and they plan to have the pool opened tomorrow afternoon. They made arrangements for our city passes to be accepted by a nearby town's pool, but that's about 8 to 10 miles away, whereas this pool is about 6 blocks away! The high today is expected to be 112 degrees, maybe the heat is making the pumps have to work overtime!!! We had a pool in our backyard here til it "died" 4 years ago (it was about 25 yo and the main drain broke after a couple days of rain though I'd kept pumping out the extra water; would cost about $12,000 to fix due to structural damage that resulted when we suddenly lost 4 feet of water into the ground below the pool and it made one of the inground fiberglass sides cave in--not worth it since I was also just starting to go back to "school" and we had it filled in ). I know all the heat puts extra strain on the chemicals and the pumps have to work more to keep things in balance. Oh well....they say this is temporary, so horray!
