Stacey - I think I am thankful that I'm finding out I'm possibly allergic to corn/corn syrup, etc. It's a weakness of mine too. I have NOT bought corn on the cob since Medi (10 months)....it would be a slippery slope. It's not same category as allowable Medi veggies...it's a starch....in the same category as breads I would think. JMHO

Deb- LOL! I would probably put this corn more in the dessert category, it is definitely an indulgence! I was just wondering what everyone else would do in the same situation ; ) It's always interesting to hear how others would handle sticky food situations!

The result (I weighed in today, a day early)...after 4 ears this weekend (hey, I walked around the farm and picked them myself at least!!) I am still down 3 pounds, my best week in a while! Maybe my body was just craving a little treat, the good news is that I don't have anymore. If I want any more, I'll have to drive 30 minutes and go get it, which will probably happen before the season ends...but not anytime soon. Florida really needs to learn how to grow something good, fresh, and GREEN. All we have in my area is strawberries, corn, and an hour away we have blackberries and peaches.

Medi should open a farm in Central Florida, they would make millions......

b-cm yogurt (80)
s-string cheese (60)
l-2 veggie dogs (100 total) and veggie slice cheddar (40)
s-string cheese (60)
d-2 veggie burgers (140 total)
s-pb protein ball (90ish) and later on a few almonds (about 75)
not too bad if I say so myself.
Workout today=resistance bands, legs, abs, not official cardio unless you include 2 hours of extensive dog walking, cleaning, care, this morning and all working morning.

Lea-I'm lucky to have a "home gym" setup...it got a lot of use before I had my son and right after I had him...but for about 18 months prior to medi...it was a cat bed and dust collection area. I have a bowflex (plus an elliptical, bike and various balls, hand weights and info-merical gear) which allows me to get my "weight training/resistance" in and I can watch tv at the same time. I even incorporate my son (who's almost 4) and we pretend it's a pirate ship. He sits on whatever part I'm not using and steers our ship. It helps me not feel guilty for spending so much time working out because it's fun for both of us and gives my husband a much needed break! I try to do my abs every day and am FINALLY starting to get my "four pack" back. I think it's unrealistic to think I'll ever have all six...but I'm fine with four....it beats a keg.

I haven't been on here in awhile because of my crazy life, but I am still journaling my food at home, and keeping up with the excerise. I am still maintaining, and I am only going to the clinic monthly now.

Just wondering what someone else would think of the situation...my clinic would tell me to throw it away, ha! I am staring at the bag and drooling as we speak, lol!!
I love corn too but I thought the Zellwood corn season is in the spring ....like May? Is that something different?

Charlene - How do you eat just egg whites for dinner? Do you flavor them somehow?

Had my allergy testing today - NO food allergies! This allergist is more traditional than the one I've seen previously, but I miss my "old" one--gives lots of education about clean eating and avoiding lactose, fructose, fake sugars, etc.

Today in frustration and rebellion I went out and when hungry ate a large Heath bar -- sugar/corn syrup and all! That was totally an emotional thing, I admit it. On phone today with DD#1; she is planning wedding for Fall next year. I was feeling a little emotional! I then came home and looked at all the photos before and after....if I can figure it out I'm going to update my avatar, have a CD from recently when I hit goal.

I usually eat the egg beaters egg whites and i put "i can't believe it's not butter" spray (lots) and a little garlic pepper or whatever dry spices i am craving at that time. Mostly, I also add kraft fat free cheddar cheese or veggie slices cheddar which makes them way better.

Something else I like to do with the egg white....I think I got the idea from somewhere on this board, is, mix them with cheese and spinach and a little tofurky and fill muffin tins halfway full and bake it for a little while until it puffs up. I love things that are a little overcooked and this way the eggs get that crispy edge!

b-2 pieces of sara lee deLightful whole wheat toast with peanut butter and banana slices (my all time favorite breakfast)
s-1/2 honey/vanilla greek yogurt (50 calories), 1/2 skinny cow chocolate truffle bar (50 calories)
l-big plate of salad with hb egg, ff italian, sugar free chocolate mousse
s-cm yogurt
d-grazed, almonds, jello with cool whip, 1/3 protein bar

exercise-5k in about 27-28 minutes...not the fastest person in the world but for someone who is "not a runner" I was pretty proud

additionally, we walked around the mall for about 3 hours after the race and then went to a pumpkin village that was huge and did a lot of walking....in the dirt.

I feel like I might really start to like running (jogging) ....not because I necessarily find joy in the running itself but because of how I feel when I have finished. I feel so skinny and non-puffy when I have run...I need to find a track by the house.

Charlene!! 5K in 27 to 28 minutes!! YOU are my inspiration! I'm not out to be the quickest, but you are right, it definitely makes ME feel better, non-puffy, and energetic to have ran.

Parents are still here from out of town. We had pizza and bread sticks last night, DH provided dinner as I was writing a report for grad school. So, I ate it. Need to get unpuffed in the next few days!! Oldest DD has been emailing re: wedding plans, etc and I'm nervous/excited about that...not for any other reason than I'll still be in school and teaching students at the time, and how this will all work out. Cannot worry about that now, well, I CAN worry, but nothing good would come out of it!

Ugh. Weddings are stressful. When I got married, I swear it was like 8 months of anxiety torture! I can only imagine how our mothers and fathers felt. I'm glad my son is still young enough that I don't have to worry about him getting married for A LONG TIME...and it would be even more stressful with a daughter. I think just raising a daughter by itself is stressful, let alone a daughter (hopefully she's not a bridezilla) with a wedding.
In regards to the pizza...it's funny cause even though I come on this forum to vent when I eat some crap or feel puffy, I think this whole [wellness] plan has taught me (through trial and error) that it IS ok to have some crap once in awhile. Luckily, I've never been a fan of pizza but as you know, I've made some "mistakes" along the way and it really didn't set me back because you learn to stop and make up for it, especially when you remember what it felt like to be heavier. When I have gained weight before, it was always fairly gradual, so I didn't really "remember" how it, so recently felt to be thinner...but with Medi, the weight came off so fast it is easier to remember the difference in feelings. Does that even make sense? In my mind it does, but I can't always get things out that thing clearly.
Something I found funny while I was talking to my husband after the race yesterday...well, first off, I was telling him that I really wanted to start FOR REAL incorporating some running into my routine. I had an epiphany about why I never used to attempt running except on a treadmill. It was always so....I guess the word would be uncomfortable to me. I "thought I would die" from it. Now, I know, that even if I push myself to run when I want to walk or stop, I can keep going and I am STILL ALIVE! I imagine it will take time before I really, truly, enjoy it but I'd like to get there. I think I'll still be more of a biker at heart though.

Oh yeah, I was thinking it but don't think I wrote it before but Deb, that new picture is awesome, sideways or not!! Hot stuff!

Charlene,
I know from my DD#1 who likes to control and be private, that there could be that tendency (B/zilla) but not in a way like she's OWED anything, just that she wants to have her own thoughts and not a lot of input. That's ok....I'm at a better place in my sanity at this time to be able to not feel personally unloved or judged, which, being overweight, would make me then feel that of course I was not worth being loved and other such nonsensical twisted thinking....like it was the weight that was between me and being worth loving?! So, I'd eat over it! I really want to just step back and watch her enjoy this time in her life, and as a mom get joy watching her enjoying this time in her life! I'm at so much more peace with my life now. I'd lied to myself for years previously. What an awesome connection to be able to reflect so deeply with you about this and know that I'm understood. I don't want to GIVE AWAY the power of my peace to lies and unhealthy choices! Thanks again for the accountability, and for the compliments....I do feel HOT!

Sorry to just get to this, I have had a CRAZY week!!! Long and Scott farms in Zellwood has 2 growing seasons, one in the spring and one in the fall. The fall corn is a bit smaller, but tastes the same. For the record, I gave the last of mine away and will be headed back to the farm in a couple of weeks to buy some to freeze. I am at Medi until November 3rd, and vowed to stay away from it until then!!! : )

Aw, thanks.
I'm sure you'll get back on track. I kinda know how you feel. It's really tempting to pay the avoidance card when you're overwhelmed or even ashamed. I did that with one of my transition appointments. I knew I had gained a couple pounds and I couldn't bear to see it on their scales or hear it or anything. I would have felt humiliated. I ended up losing it once my body adjusted to carbs again. I have since been really lax about going to my new clinic (I switched because I was becoming displeased with my old clinics "bed side manner"). I missed that appt and then had personal stuff come up and missed two in a row. It's been a crazy time for me to so I totally understand why you have been away. I try to post and read posts on here from my phone when I have a spare minute or two, which is rarely, or when I'm at work and actually sitting at my desk, again, rare.
These days, I'm trying to focus on lowering my anxiety about food and weight. I am trying not to be so obsessive about it...which is hard for me because I have a very addictive personality. Right now, my addiction of choice is exercise...when I need to rein in because I am physically exhausted myself between regular busy life/social life and work and that. I only average about 5 to 5 1/2 hours of sleep a night the past couple weeks and it's taking a toll on me. Basically, what I'm saying is that I COMPLETELY get why you've been away and am here if you need to vent!

In other news, yesterday evening I went on a raisin binge. I am feeling really nasty today as a result. I ate like 2 or 3 servings worth of raisins which is a lot of sugar. I gave blood in the late morning yesterday and for the first time in my blood giving history, I actually had "side effects". I felt like I was gonna pass out while talking to some customers and had to sit down...and after that I had some stomach issues. I went to bed early last night, after my raisin binge and took a nap at lunch today. I have really come to recognize that I need to take a break every now and then...

[QUOTE=Charlene4;14013609]Aw, thanks.

Thanks, Charlene! It's so nice to know that we all struggle with something, and that we're here to help each other. I still have that anxiety over food all the time. PLEASE take care of yourself, get some sleep/rest and give yourself a break! We can all do this balance thing. I haven't learned how yet, but I'm sure we can!

Mmm..Charlene, make ants-on-a-log with celery, peanut butter and raisins!

I need to start posting in this thread for accountability. My carb purging mode was not going well. I started on Tuesday and did very well all of Tuesday only to binge on "bad" stuff late at night, ditto for Wednesday. This is the 1st time in 8 months that I cannot regain control over my cravings/eating. This wedding weekend (actually 3 days) and my injury completely undid my praised self-control. I hope, 3rd time is a charm and today I am successful and kept week 1 diet (its almost midnight and I am going to bed, no more food for sure). I need 2 more days like this and then go into regular acute for a week so that I will undo the damage. Anyway, here it goes - week 1 carb-purging mode today:

Calories IN:
B - Susie's protein pancake - 160 cal
D - Broiled salmon - 225 cal, miracle noodles
After gym treat - Charlene's protein pudding about 100 cal

Calories OUT:
Jogging - 1 hour (500 cal) , cannot do weights due to the injury.

Stacey,
You know so much good stuff! I LOVE reading your posts! I now have both my DD and DIL signed up on EMEALZ too! Thanks for the corn info!

Week 1 Carb "purge" begins for me again TODAY! Last night went to a Komen Breast Cancer Survivor function that was wonderful, didn't want to miss out last pm, and there wouldn't have been alternative choices anyways as it was all hor deurves at suppertime, and wine. But I'm so thankful I got to meet others, including director of KU research for this area!

10-22-10
B - carbmaster's yogurt
S - 17 crispy turkey pepperonis cooked in microwave
L - to be determined....

Hi all,
I forgot to take my journal with me to Jacksonville, but now that I'm home I'm keeping track of everything I eat and drink. It's never been a problem being accountable for my food HOWEVER:
Even with this nice cool weather I'm avoiding walking! I don't want variety in what I eat, but I sure do get bored with my walking routes FAST, and have to look for different places to walk. I have exercise tapes but don't use them. Has anyone tried the exercise program through Medi.....the interactive thing whatever it's called?

B- Protein Shake
L- Lunch meat and string cheese (picnic at the zoo)
S- Almonds
D- Cheese fold-over pizza, and a dark green leafy salad

No "formal" exercise but I was at the zoo for 4 hours today with my kids, and I only sat down to eat lunch, and then I came home and went grocery shopping for over an hour. I'll call that a day...my legs are very tired.
