My hip joints are hurting....the right one started bothering me the last 5 mins of my jog/walk Sunday AM and I had to go back to resting (walking) 1 minute in between 2 min jogs. Has continued to hurt. I always stretch well every AM and before/after exercise. I think they hurt from sitting in this stupid office swivel chair all day when I'm in online studies for hours and hours. I'm used to being up and around! Any tips from any body? I have pretty good workout shoes and added extra support in them prior to starting my exercise routine a month ago. I am resting from jog/walk this AM but may try later on the treadmill....don't want to get out of it because knowing me it's so hard to get back into the routine. With the stress eating I did last PM I need to get exercise in, and I weigh in tomorrow. Taking Erin's advice on lots of water today...

My whole body has been hurting, Debbie. If I don't exercise, my muscles and joints kill me. Yoga between sitting has helped tremendously. Do you like yoga?

Downward dog is good for opening up the hips.

Downward Dog - Learn How to Improve Downward Facing Dog in Yoga Video

Probably not a miracle cure-all but I swear my whole body feels better when I'm doing at least a little bit of yoga every day.

I usually drink a protein shake after I run, which is 140 calories. My doctor said that was fine and I didn't need to add anymore than that unless I want to. Sometimes before bed I am hungry again and have 6-8 almonds or a laughing cow cheese.

B- Medi Bar
S- Laughing Cow Cheese Wedge
L- Salad with Grilled chicken
S- 6 almonds
D- Grilled Tilapia and Asparagus

I did a 20 min "Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred" Video We have VBS every night this week so I won't be running.

Lins - And you're still able to be upright/function after the Jillian Michaels video? You go girl!

Erin - I did not see the view of the front of my thighs while doing the downward dog yoga movement in my undies--weird to see hanging skin in the FRONT of the thighs and so far up. Guess I should be thankful it means fat is gone.

Ladies - Please get fit and stay THERE while you are young...you know I'm in my early 50's (though Lea says I look younger...my pal!) and skin doesn't retract as well at this age. You read me Erin, Ortal, Lins, everyone?! Stay younger looking with less flab, saggy skin right now and don't let it yo-yo. If only I'd known ....and if only I'd not emotionally eaten....and if only ....well, that's not going to do me any good ...I'm not going to be upset about what I cannot reverse now.....but I wanted to warn you and thank you ALL for being here on this site so I (and you) can succeed into our most attractive bodies NOW! I'd rather have the saggy skin than the 42 lbs of fat back !

Debbie and Erin - what's going on with your joints? Can you attribute it to anything specific? I hope it's something simple - like you need more water or more rest!! You've both had a hectic schedule here lately. Maybe you're behind on sleep? Hope you're both back to "normal" soon!

Debbie - you don't look anywhere NEAR 50! Not one single part of you! I told my husband I wasn't sure how old you were but you mentioned something about when you were in your early 40's, then when you were in your mid 40's, then late 40's, implying you were no longer in your 40's at all, but I said you looked young - like late 30's or early 40's.

If I knew then what I know now, my body would be a whole lot different too. I would have never yo-yo'd and abused my body like that. I was always excited to drop 10 or 20 pounds but always let it creep back on. Not this time. My body is only going to get older and saggier from here on out - I'm going to take care of it!

B - turkey sausage
L - deli meat and cheese, almonds
S - yogurt with blueberries, 1/2 Pure Protein peanut butter bar

Dinner will be National Hebrew hotdogs.

No, I have big time flabby skin. If I stay very hydrated, it's much better, surprisingly. I feel like so much older underneath my clothes. I'm hoping it will get better with time.

S-Medi Bar
D-Protein Pancake w/peanut butter

Apparently my body did not agree with either the Pure Protein bar that I had yesterday or the sugar free tic tacs because yesterday night I was not in ketosis....this morning it was trace and tonight it's back to moderate. Shew. About to go do at least 35 minutes on the elliptical and some bowflex. Weight in on Friday and I don't feel like I've had the greatest week.

Charlene - I don't commonly check my ketosis during the day...I think drinking lots of WATER, like we're supposed too, dilutes it.I mainly just check in the early AM. Not so sure about the SF tic tacs since no protein in there and may have been tricking your body. Initially on MWL I was told no sugarfree gum, etc. Anyone else have ideas about that? SF Jello has some protein in it so there's a difference, same with the Pure Protein bar.

B - low fat cottage cheese, blueberries
L - Italian style beef roast and provolone cheese
D - 2 slices lean ham, 2 string cheese, 4 long dill pickles, mustard
S - SF jello

No exercise (hips were hurting....schoolwork at computer all day)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
7/14/10
B - low fat cottage cheese and blueberries (they are almost gone!)
L - roasted carnitas (pork) at Mexican restaurant with Lea , lettuce, 1/2 tomatoe slice, onions, spoonful of this, spoonful of that, NO tortillas, also told server do not even think of bringing chips and salsa to table!
S - sonic route 44 diet Sprite w/strawberries added; 2 Rainier cherries (Jo's fault! )
D - carbmaster vanilla yogurt, 1/4 c no sugar added applesauce, a few walnuts, LOTS of cinnamon (Lea---oh my!! Yum!)
Exercise - I'm a loser today....will be back at it tomorrow. Chiropracter gave suggestion regarding hip pain after snap/crackling/and popping everything back into place this afternoon
Clinic appt today showed BMI is 25.2 and waist still 32....not QUITE "there" yet to goal range. I feel so much better though about how I look. Running errands today I saw heads turning!
Hopefully it was a fluke. I do drink A LOT of water....probably more than required. I have always loved water and I have one with me at all times. The bathroom and I are great friends. They told me the tic tacs were ok in moderation...I DID eat more than I normally do though. I have never had the Pure Protein bar but I keep hearing everyone talk about them so I had to try it. I think I was just looking for something to blame because I snacked on tic tacs all day, had an emotionally hectic day at work yesterday and today and didn't work out at all yesterday. I usually check the ketosis once a day but when it came out negative, I was checking it more than normal hoping it would change....minds games. I am forcing myself to work out right now even though I am drained. Any additional comments or tips are always welcome. I love this thread because it's a good comparison and you can check out what type of things work for other people.
I have that one and used it a few times ... it made me feel like a failure the first couple of times. I had been working out hard (strength, too!) all these months only to find I could barely keep up in the level 1. I also have Bob and Jillian's yoga. Bob's level 1 wore me out... so it'll be a while before I meet Jillian's yoga as I still gotta get through 2 and 3 of Bob, which is easier than hers.
I had the same snack - with a few walnuts again. Isn't that yummy?
For the record everyone, Debbie had more than heads turning. One of the employees at the restaurant all but pawed her after calling her "beautiful Debbie" about 10 times. Seriously, he came back to the table at least 6 times - and he wasn't even our waiter!! And guess what? Debbie blushed! Isn't that sweet??
You are HOT, Debbie!
Charlene, I see that you are going to the clinic in the Dallas area, correct? I have a friend in Dallas area and she is thinking of starting Medi. She wanted me to find out where is Medi clinic located. What is the address of the clinic? Or there may be more than one in your area?
Thank you,
LOL you guys are hilarious! I would've loved to see the love triangle going on at the mexican restaurant. lol
Ira, direct her to the Medi Website. All the locations are listed there.
I'm feeling much more in control. Had a loss on the scale and upped my calories back to 1400. I can't eat less than that without an AS. I also ran/walked on the treadmill. I love that interval training program on there! I keep reading how that burns more calories and increases endurance so much faster than just plain running or walking. So fun too - I don't get bored at all. Since I made my 128 oz. water goal, the scale was back down today so I'm feeling soo much better.
B: Coffee, yogurt, turkey sausage
S: almonds, rainier cherries
L: chicken sausage, green beans, cheese stick
S: protein shake made w/ milk, more almonds (tummy not happy now), 2 chicken nuggets
D: chicken salad w/ cheese & green olives, fresca margarita
S: latte, vita muffin top
Calories in - 1450. Not sure about calories out since I didn't wear the heart rate monitor.
I did the Jillian 30 day shred video 2 days in a row now, and I'll do it again today. Level 1 isn't too bad but if I move up to level 2 it about kills me. I hate lunges (hurts my knees) and push-ups.
B-Protein shake
L- Chicken Sausage
S- String cheese
D- Ham and Green beans
S- Almonds
20 min, 30 day shred video
Thank you,
I would suggest the website as well. I go to the one in Southlake, it's off Zena Rucker Rd (off Byron Nelson/Southlake BLVD). I know they just opened one in Arlington, there's one in Fort Worth and there is one in Richardson that I know of. I believe I might be forgetting one. There is basically one that services any area of Dallas/Fort Worth, it seems like.
I love me my LCF buddies!
Woke up late due to late assignment deadline last night for school. Surprisingly it's overcast and was nice enough outside to do my jog/walk intervals starting at 10:30 AM!
What I've learned:
1) I really, really stretched well this AM. Chiro had aligned everything yesterday and I woke feeling great this AM. In fact, last PM I even did a little neck traction thingie to help keep me "in place" for ten minutes.
2) After one mile my left hip started hurting. OK modified Downward Doggie movement done in the city park! Thankfully I don't think anyone was around to see that! Started back up after another 1/4 miles so stretched for entire 1 min, walked a min, then resumed jog of 2 mins 30 seconds followed by 1 min walks.
3) I think as my endurance has allowed me to jog LONGER, there's of course more jolting on those hip joints--DUH!
4) I need to get new shoes for jogging. I'm wearing shoes I worked in as an RN for about a year and prior to starting jogging a month ago added extra insole support AND extra cushion insole. Now going longer time with jogging....Friend yesterday (who does marathons) says the life expectancy of these shoes is probably well spent just from me wearing them 12 + hours shifts for about 3 days a week for a year. Makes sense. But $$!! Any suggestions?
5) Last 2 1/2 mins I decided to jog on the grass instead of the sidewalk, hoping that I'd have a little more "give" and less jolt on my hips. Anyone have any ideas?
6) Need to move my computer screen so it's in FRONT of my keyboard instead of off to the side, because I've left in front as area for my books and papers. This is going to take some planning/getting used to. Ugh!
But, I'm impressed with being able to have this problem, and it's all because of endurance! Yeah!!
Exercise - 2 miles of altering 2 1/2 min jog with 1 min walking. You want to know what sucks? As great as I think that is, I was reading Jerry's blog and he RUNS/walks 4 miles in the same amount of time I do 2 miles (about 40 mins). WOW!
~Debbie~ About the shoes. I am going to email you info about shoes. But your friend is correct. I wear Nike or Saucony cross trainers for walking. I walk 4-6 miles a day 7 days a week and even the best shoes are going to break down after wear like that. Some people will try to sell you more expensive shoes that will wear better but it just is not so. I buy a new pair about every 3 months. I go to the stores having sales, sending that along to you as well. Always wear socks too.
Stretching before and after exercise is sooooo important. Also try a couple of videos that are not as stressfull on the body. I have tried the Jillian Michaels videos and everytime go back to my original Buns of Steel. 1 hour workout that does a great job for you if you stick with it.
I have nice brooks running shoes that I got at an outlet mall for $40 and they are great. I try to replace them every 6 months. I have always had problems with low arches (had to have arch supports that were made by my pediatraist, when I was in high school). So I can't just wear any ole' shoe. I have to have to have really good arch supports (this is true with my regular shoes/sandals as well). My current doctor suggested the Brooks running shoes made for low arches, so I went to a "running store" tried them on, and then went to an outlet mall and bought last year model of them same shoe for half the price. But if you don't have any feet "problems" then I would just get some good tennis shoes from someplace, that are on sale, and replace them frequently, or get some good shoes and only wear them for jogging, and wear a different shoe to work in.
