B- 2 hard boiled eggs
L- Beek Jerky and sting cheese (I was at my daughter's school) D- Chicken Sausage and a salad Ran 2 1/2 miles, walked 2 miles. TONS of water I weight-in tomorrow but because it's the last day of school I have to be up at my daughters school in the morning, so I had to change my appointment to 4:15 (I usually go around 9 a.m.) I hope having an afternoon weigh-in doesn't throw me off. After last weeks 1lb gain I really want to see good numbers. I have been on plan, and never been out of ketosis since day 4. That gain was really frustrating because I don't know why (other than TOM). I don't see how someone can only eat 500-600 calories everyday and GAIN 1 pound.........can you tell I'm still upset....LOL

Erin, Hope you get unfunktified soon! What do you think is going on? Too many choices and having to work on thinking about amounts again?
A friend of mine will be getting online with us in the next few days and started MWL this AM. So, to boost her along and to reboot my weight loss I started week one again today. I'm going to cut out all the almonds/nuts/bars for a while and go basic again. I think I need to cut out so much diet Sprite too. Though I've been drinking my water I think all of the above in combo with humidity has made me retain water weight. Now that I've seen the photos I had taken 5 1/2 months ago ("before") and recently I can really tell a difference physically to match what I knew was feeling better physically. I can also see I'm NOT DONE and motivated to loose the next 10 lbs during the next 5wks! And a total of 17-20 lbs before I see my oldest daughter August 7th when I go see her do her full triathalon! A friend and I are now talking about doing a try-a-tri in December together! I needed this kick in the behind to get remotivated! ![]() 6/9/10 B-carbmasters yogurt L-3 oz roasted chicken

Not sure why I'm in a funk. Hopefully whatever it is goes away. All I want to do is sit around and be cranky.
Well I got brave and had 1/2c of Fiber One cereal this morning with almond milk. I even added 1/4c egg beaters and 1T RF cheese to balance it with protein. I have been shaky and super hungry ever since!! I figured with all that fiber, I would be ok! ![]() |

Erin - I wonder if you've developed some food allergies?! You were not in a funk until you started increasing carbs, right? Perhaps your body doesn't like something....maybe go back to just proteins for 3 days (but lots calorie-wise), let your body have a carb die off time, and then when you add carbs in only try one version at a time instead of mixing 'em up all in the same day. See WHAT makes you feel badly. You may get some more ideas from the yeast/candida thread on this website too. Hope this helps!
I think I'm allergic to corn syrup, fructose, etc. It makes me crave MORE and drives me nuts! So, I know that is a red flag food I'll have to limit. Also I have to limit the sugary milk kind of products. I'm wondering if your fraps are bringing you down? Last edited by Fit2010; 06-09-2010 at 11:57 AM.. |

I have a history of food sensitivities so that wouldn't surprise me.
I think I might be a bit depressed as well. Now that I'm not able to numb feelings or hide behind layers, some issues are exposed and I don't know what to do with them. Anyway, sometimes it's also mind over matter. When I don't exercise, I get deeper into a hole. So I just need to maybe run hard and get some endorphins going. |

You're not alone in those feelings, Erin. Work it on out....and know we're here for you!
I'm a Christian and have to fill my thoughts with Truth, reminders of how God views me, where my strength really comes from, what is important....It's a daily walk and I'm trying to not base my happiness on FEELINGS. The following is an excerpt from a book about temperaments: "The character of our feelings depends on the character of our thoughts, and the sincere Christian should ask himself, "What is shaping and filling my thoughts?" I want to develop a thankful attitude instead of a worried/fearful/or angry attitude! I have SO much to be thankful for!! Including this forum and great friends like YOU! ![]() |

OK - Studying for my grad school class and it's about relationship issues professionally....here's a quote from Aristotle! "Whatever we learn to do, we learn by actually doing it....By doing just acts we come to be just; by doing self-controlled acts, we come to be self-controlled; and by doing brave acts, we become brave." We are learning self-control in our eating, and working on it in our exercising, now we need to be self-controlled in our thoughts so that our thoughts don't bring on the negative feelings that stir up the vicious cycle. Replacing our thoughts with Truth is a firm foundation. But we live in a world that says there are so many truths, or no truths at all....it's a battle for our minds!

Great advice, Debbie! I will snap out of it. I always get like this when the summer starts. Getting used to a new schedule, THE HEAT, kids being consistently bored, etc. Combined with adding carbs that are probably zapping my energy a bit until I get used to them is just giving me issues. It's all good. Thanks, friend.

I'm not feeling all that great either. For the first morning since I've been on plan, I was NOT in ketosis this morning and have no idea why not. I would understand if I went out while eating a little extra at the lake, but I can't figure out what I did yesterday. I'm also feeling bloated and really "fat" today despite losing consistently. Why do we still have the mental and emotional issues? I worked out today and that helped my mood, but I'm tired. I'm going to eat a healthy dinner, take a shower and take it easy.
B - sausage L - canadian bacon, light babybel cheese S - egg beaters omelet with a TINY bit of salsa D - chicken breast or turkey burger I'm super hungry today too and even have a slight headache - like I'm on a carb overload and am in the "drop" phase. I wonder if I thought I was eating/drinking some no carb/low carb food yesterday when it was really loaded with something? (grabbing the wrong can of pop or something)?? I don't know. Surely I'd have tasted the difference.

Hi txntv - I don't like all those electrolyte drinks either and have a cupboard full of crystal light stuff -- I do like making them into popsicles though! Takes longer and doesn't upset my stomach as much that way!
Hi Lea - Hang in there. I think it's our WEIRD KS weather!! It was 70's Monday, 90's yesterday, 70's today....I think part of it is sinus pressure/fatigue and humidity bloating. Don't worry about being out of ketosis....I've read that sometimes we can be out on the stick though we are still eating right just cuz our body has gotten used to the change. Perhaps with the humidity you puffed up cuz your body is "third spacing," keeping some fluids to itself because it's in survival mode adapting not only to lower calories but the high humidity. Just an educated thought.... Regarding emotional issues....we're all going through it right now. Good company to figure all this out in. Don't be hard on yourself. Anxious, fearful, angry thoughts are what make us feel the need to be buffered/numbed/filled...a false "hunger." Something that has really helped me is to SLOWLY read through the book of Philippians. Talk about an attitude adjustment! We have nothing so hard....I tend to make myself think it's so hard....but it's not. It's just a war in my mind! |

So I had a chicken breast (small one) and a low carb yogurt. I was really hungry. To tell you the truth, I could still eat something else, but don't want to. I also checked my ketones again and I'm back in - but in trace. Just yesterday I was testing really high - like I was dehydrated. I don't know what happened in a day, but this crazy weather could certainly play a part.
I was supposed to have my appointment today but it got moved to tomorrow. I'll post stats tomorrow. Debbie, thank you. There's a whole slew of is in a funk right now. I just saw Ortal's post on the June thread that she's so upset she's going to bed. I hate days like that. And Ortal, when you get on this thread, I feel for you!!! I hope you wake up in a better frame of mind. All of your reasoning is sound, but our bodies and our minds aren't always in unison. Let's all try to be as patient with ourselves as we are with each other! |

Ya, angry. I'm all angry at my mom lately. I'm the weight I was in high school and it's taken me back there when she was a tyrant and over the top critical of me. I can't even bring myself to call and have a conversation with her and our relationship is totally different now. It's good. Just everything she says makes me defensive!
I think we should all just have a good cry and a pretend low carb margarita. Even my husband texted me that he's having a bad day. Is it a full moon or something??

Lost muscles mass, not fat!
I just came back from a weign-in and I am so upset. This never happened to me in all 4.5 months on Medi. I lost 5.81 lb in 1 week (great, right? not so fast, though). It was only 0.2 lb fat loss, 3 lb of muscles and 2.6 water. I always loose fat and yo-yo with water, never losing muscles. I exercised vigorously this week ( 6 times, 1 hours cardio, heart art in 150s, 1/2 hour weights ) but same as before. To paint the complete picture - I fell out of ketosis over Memorial Day weekend, then did 4 days of protein and on the 5th day saw pinkish reading on the stick, thought I was back and added veggies, still keeping tight card control.
Does the loss of musles mean that I am not in ketosis and just exercising to hard and losing muscles? I still need to lose 15-20 lb of fat to be in the desirable fat % range. Did such a thing happened to somebody else? What to do???Help? |

Irabeslim, I think you should be replacing the calories lost from exercing with extra protein. Protein builds muscles and you many not be eating enough based on your activity level. The days I work out I eat extra protein. You can't have too much lean protein.

Agreed. My center has told me to up my calories on days I work out. I was not upping them enough that they added another 100 to my daily intake. No problems. It was not until this week I had a tiny loss than usual -- but that's not bad considering 12 weeks -- only two weeks had .5. The rest were 1lb and up.

I am only eating 500 cal protein (religiously counting) - I asked at the clinic if I should increase that because of my exercise and they told me if I feel ok, don't do that, that way my weight loss will be greater. Based on what I read it just a bad idea for the weight loss effort to lose muscle mass, it will slow down metabolism and will require you to eat even less to achiev weight loss. If I burn like 400-500 cal during exercise how much protein should I add?
The other big worry is - does this indicate that I am not in ketosis? |

You should add in 1/2 of what you burn. So 200-250.
Another thing to think about is honestly, I don't think those Tanita scales are all that accurate... that came from the clinic's nurse practitioner when I fretted over it. I've had "muscle loss" as well one week and then was fine the following week. The only truly accurate test of body mass would be submerging your body in a water tank. |

I was told that if your workout is intense then it may put you out of ketosis because your muscles are using up ketones when you execerize really hard. So you may not really be out of ketosis it's just not showing up in your system due to the hard activity. I am a runner and that is true for me. The day after I run I show up out of ketosis, but the next day (the day after my rest day), I am right back in......

I guess going back to all protein is defeating the purpose of short term maintenance, right?
Eating more carbs is making me crave everything. I'm having quite a carby and caloric day. Ugh Tomorrow is weigh in. I'm going to be up a ton. I'm just going to have to drink water the rest of the night. I'm already at 1000 cal and 61 carbs. Came back to edit this. I'm refusing to have a pity party about this. I'm PMSing probably. Plus all I have to do is look at what I've eaten. I've eaten way too much artificial sweetener and that clearly triggered the downward spiral. I basically can't handle anything sweet. Eventually I'm going to have to have some willpower though and stay away from this crap. I thought about not even going in tomorrow but I'll be able to talk to the np and I'd areally like to ask her some questions. This morning I was up 3 pounds so it's not looking good. Haven't gained at all through this journey and the first thing I do in maintenance is gain 5 lbs. Lovely. Last edited by eptexy; 06-10-2010 at 03:32 PM.. |

I'm going to start cleaning the house and hopefully that'll burn some more calories. I'm still having a really hard time today! |

Hi Erin I read where Susie who is on maintenance said she still follows the medi but just have more (more vegetables, etc.) I get really hungry when I am pmsing also. The cocoa almonds are my sweet fix. Maybe your critical carb level is lower. Go back to 20 carbs and gradually increase it while watching the scale to find your ccl. |
