EAS bars

I see that people are using EAS bars - are they better for the diet than medi-weightloss protein bars? Also where can one buy them?

They're the EAS carb control shakes. I just get some because they are ready made. To me, they're as good as the medi shakes.

Well, I didn't change it up much, but here it is:
B - egg
L - turkey and cheese stick
S - celery, okra, almonds
D - turkey dog, jello, cottage cheese, 1/2 EAS shake

I'm at 470 calories but only 385 protein. I was really warned about not getting enough protein just last week so I'll have something later tonite. I haven't felt all that great today - kinda sick to my stomach today.

Biked 45 minutes

Wow I am hungry today! Good thing is, I am back in ketosis and have lost a couple of pounds in the last 2 days doing week 1. It's amazing how switching to all protein for a couple of days is the perfect reset button.

B: egg/turkey sausage/cheese mug (of course!)
L: Morningstar Farms chicken patty (grillers), 1 piece american cheese, pickles
S: Medi vanilla shake w/ orange crystal light
D: cocktail shrimp w/ my own cocktail sauce (sf ketchup & horseradish)

I think I must have a slight flu bug. I was really ill yesterday evening and was so dehydrated that my ketones were large this morning. Then today, I just haven't felt right. Nauseous all day.

I ran into a fellow medi dieter today who just started mainenance. Her goal was to lose 60 pounds and she did. Today was her first weigh in of maintenance and she lost an additional four pounds. They stressed to her that she really needs to start adding in the calories and healthy carbs. She's really nervous about doing that. Me too. I think I saw on the May thread someone's husband is a carbophobic. Me too.

Lea,
I got on to add that I ate 2 slices of whole wheat bread so I had egg salad sandwich instead of deviled eggs for dinner. Interesting that folks are talking about being afraid of adding carbs, really I have been intermittently eating carbs but trying to be wise and eat healthy....very limited. Trust me, it would work faster doing the program the MWL way but I'm needing to start counseling to focus on being ok with my weight loss and maintaining it.

Are you guys still keeping the protein calories at 500 or do you go over and how much?
This question is for those who are still in the acute phase but weeks/months in.

They tell you not to exceed 800 calories. I usually stay around 600-700 total. Protein is always 500 or more and carbs are never over 20g.

I usually go between 600-700 with most of it being protein and maybe an atkins bar or an EAS shake.

Wanted to clarify something about my carbs and the counseling I need....don't know if you all remember that I had bilateral mastectomies not quite 3 years ago and reconstruction which included a tummy tuck procedure to build me breasts from my fatty handfuls of belly--that's part of my concern. I'm losing my breasts now...ok, one is 36C and other is about 36B size....down from 40C. But with the Transabdominal Muscle Flap surgery they cut my abd muscles to give blood supply to those "belly boobs" and my abd tone is less than ideal and my proportion isn't probably going to be hour glass ish...vanity, vanity! Basically, I'm overwhelmingly thankful to be here, free of breast disease, but timid about losing it all to get to a healthy weight # but look disproportioned. It's really not as drastic as it sounds on paper, but still, I have the control to go on with this or not and I'm just a little freaked!

5/27/10
B-carbmaster's yogurt (tried the peach, oh yeah, don't like that one so much--note to self!) Coffee with DaVinci's flavoring (Kahlua and Caramel/sugarfree) and half-n-half

Debbie, I did remember that information, just not the specific details. You have already endured so much, my friend. Be kind to yourself as you make this journey. You have my support!

I've checked out the couch to 5k before and I think I have it printed out somewhere, but I'm going to look at everything again. I'm really motivated to particpate in this race!

B - egg
L - ham and cheese stick
S - yogurt (cherry today), beef jerkey, cottage cheese
D - hamburger patty (97/3) off the grill, cheese, strawberries (BBQ at mom and dad's)

This was my first exposure to eating elsewhere and off someone else's menu. I feel prfetty good about my choices tho I'm sure I went over on my calorie count. I'm still way under 1,000, maybe even under 800. I've got to figure it up here in a minute. But I'm thrilled that everyone was eating tons of stuff and I was able to eat with them and enjoy myself without blowing it!

Lea, thanks for the support pal!

Did you see that Jerry wants to do the 5K with us in September? But he's already running marathons and stuff... It's just fun to think there could be a group of us! I've been doing the Race for the Cure (walk) for over 11 years, as a survivor now for the past 2!

Erin - Which kind of lettuce do you use for your lettuce wraps? Great idea with fajitas, instead of tortillas! And your dinner sounds awesome - love Japanese! Leg cramps stinks though....Are you having a photo shoot for Medi?

S-Pure Protein Chocolate Bar (15 net carbs, 20g protein) (I like the PB ones best, more protein and I like the flavor better, but Walmart has been out of those)

No no - I'm a photographer. A photographer that is not exactly into working today.

For the lettuce, I LOVE butter lettuce that comes with the roots on it. They are shaped kind of like cups.

Erin - Cool! I just noticed that kind of lettuce at the grocery store last week! Hmmmm!

I would LOVE to be a photographer --it's been a hobby of mine for years and years. I took my daughter's senior photos and friends wanted me to do theirs too....just not enough time. I still have my 35mm and haven't yet gone to digital....some day. We could talk about this forever, but I gotta go for now. Hope you're having a re-energized day!!!

Are you afraid of carbs or are you afraid of losing control and gaining weight back? I ask because, to me, the distinction is important.

It seems that the purpose of the acute phase is to enable you to lose weight as consistently and quickly as possible. The mindset required for this is completely different than the mindset for maintaining the weight that was lost. Just like you had to learn how to lose weight, you'll also have to learn how to maintain your weight. As with the acute phase, there will be perceived setbacks in maintenance as well. Can you think of any aspect of your life that doesn't suffer from at least the occasional setback or challenge? It is how we respond to these challenges that really matters. Being afraid of gaining weight back is natural, just as losing control is human. But, are you going to let your fears dominate you? Are you to relinquish control of your life to a piece of cake or a few slices of bread? Of course not! When you are afraid, figure out what scares you and face it head on. When you lose control, figure out how to take it back. You are worth it.

I think I'm worried a tiny bit about the carbs because I've tried lots of diets and none were successful. This one has been. It makes me realize that this is the WOE that my body responds to. I just don't want to have those cravings back. But mostly, I'm afraid of regaining. I'm learning so much about myself in this journey, and what works for me and what feels good to me. I will stumble - in ALL areas of my life! But I will get back up.

Sshals - you're right of course. I'm not going to let any of this dominate any part of my life ever again. Thank you for your words and for reminding me what's important...me.

Hi friends! Lea, I think you said more than your realize in your last sentence: "Thank you for your wods and for reminding me WHAT's IMPORTANT...me." We are taking care of ourselves. But more than that, it's IMPORTANT to us now because we're putting money out for it and money is important to most of us, so we're making a concentrated effort to succeed....to make it worth it. We need to change our thinking about our "worth." For years my husband has been reading Reader's Digest and tells me statistics all the time about hours of sleep needed, foods, exercise, etc......but we put ourselves LAST and do for others or have the all or nothing at all attitude and don't even try to take care of ourselves in the most healthy manners. Then, when we do take care of ourselves like this, we're motivated by GUILT to make it worth the $, in a fast amount of time, etc. We are all mixed up!! We treat ourselves in a way we would be appauled to have someone treat one of our loved ones. We are NOT loving unconditionally....so we try to nuture ourselves when we have emotional pain or misunderstanding....and when we chose the fast fix of serotonin (feel good brain chemical) by eating carbs it's a short lasting "high." Then we all know how carbs pile up....and too many carbs for our body then add up to make too many calories, and turn to trigycerides, and lead us to insulin resistance, and make us feel we're still hungry, so we eat more, and we get fatter....NASTY cycle!! So, back to my initial point....WHAT is important to us? If health is important to us then we'll be taking care of this body that we are in for only a short time OK, so I told my husband this AM how RIGHT he's been all these years!

After eating last night (which did include a slice of garlic toast, a corn on the cob, and one new potato) I skipped the ice cream. This AM Dan and I went on an almost 4 mile in hills this AM and burned off those calories!

My sister in law asked about what I've been doing today....she may be joining us after a while!

Debbie - thanks for speaking up! And by the way, when you told your husband he'd been right all these years, did he say, I'm right, I'm right, I'm always right?

My triglycerides were in the 300's in February. They are in the mid 100's now. I was also diagnosed with insulin resistance and just started the metformin about two weeks ago.

I have been told my entire life what a great nurturer I am. If I had been able to give myself a little bit of what I've given to others, I may never have given in to such bad habits. I've said this before but when my husband had cancer and he wanted ice cream, we had ice cream. I totally lost myself in him and his needs and his ability to eat whatever he could, whenever he could, and I gained about 30 pounds in that year or so. But by then I was on carb overload, getting the "high" then crashing and being so hungry I couldn't see straight and then eating the quickest, most convenient thing - usually more sugar. I truly believe those days are behind me.

B - yogurt
L - turkey hot dogs, sauerkraut, jello
S - almonds, beef jerkey, cottage cheese
D - ham and cheese in lettuce wraps, Atkins bar

walked/biked

Good morning ladies!

Lea, look how close you are to goal! Awesome! When I told my husband he was right he just smiled and seemed to feel respected, kind of like "you noticed how much I love you Deb." He's been telling our daughters for several years that he'd like me to take better care of myself "so she'll be around for us to grow old together."

Came on site just now to list my food from this weekend, but DH just walked in and ready for AM walk before it gets too hot. So I'm outta here!

Hi all. Debbie, I went ahead and added MAYBE 150 to my goal. The clinic told me that would probably be too hard to maintain, but I think I'm going to try it anyway. I weighed 165.2 this morning and my scale is the same as the Medi scale. With only 5.2 pounds till I'm at goal, I really think my body is capable of more. We'll see!

B - egg
L - hot dog
S - chicken, 1/2 of the new Adkins caramel nougat bar (have you had these yet? OH MY GOSH!!!! They are my new favorite thing! and they're only 120 calories and 2 net carbs. I'll save my other half till tomorrow)
D - ham, s/f jello

walked/bike
I still need to do abs and arms and will after my dinner settles.

Happy Memorial Day!
