You're doing great! Wait until you have your first weigh in, you'll feel wonderful! Are you taking the AS? I was a bit leery about taking them, but I've not had any side effects from them. As a matter of fact, I quit taking my Ambien (I couldn't sleep without them before!) about Day 5 of the first week. |

Jerry,
I voted for you. You are in the lead by only 7 votes. Jerry needs more votes to secure his victory posters. We don't want to let him down after his amazing success. Go Jerry! |

Hello all,
First off, wanted to say love the bulletin board. Very good info here. Second, I think I've messed up badly. I read the food lists as a sort of guideline in that I should just eat protein for the first week. I'm on day 2 of the diet and am weak and operating at about 70% brain capacity. I had 2 slices of bacon (not turkey) with my chicken thigh tonight and then had a pickle spear. I didn't know that this was a low-fat diet as well, I was focusing on low calorie and low carb. I hope this doesn't affect the onset of ketosis. Also, am wondering what I should do with all of the bacon I bought (thinking about twisting the husband's arm to eat it). --Sera |

I have chopped up a cooked piece and put it in a salad (after week one of course) so you might not want to toss it out just yet. I wouldn't go crazy and eat a whole bunch of fattening foods, but this week I would suggest not worrying so much about the fat, and focus on getting in the entire 500 calories and choosing things that are going to satiate you so that you can adjust to this new way of eating without feeling hungry. Soon enough you'll find yourself automatically making healthier choices, sticking with the foods that are satisfying and you'll realize that you only have so many calories in a day and you want to make every one worth it. You're doing great, hang in there! |

Thanks Amy!
That made me feel a whole lot better about the situation. I'm freezing the bacon for week 2 and will only use it sparingly then. Thanks again for the info and the support, I had gotten a bit down about this but feel better now --Sera |

malloryann11, elizabethgrace - Awesome! Congrats!
My week 5 appt was today, down another 4 lbs for a total of 25. One thing they did tell me I was doing wrong though was having more than one serving of dairy (cheese in my case) a day. I would have a little bit on some scrambled eggs and then maybe as one of my snacks have a light string cheese...but apparently this is a no no. I'm going to cut it back and see if it makes a difference next week. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks, Amy |

Amy1915-Our Medi is very strict with cheese, you use it as a snack, so only 2x's a week. I have pretty much avoided it, and will work it back in later.
I had my week 7 weigh-in-lost 9 lbs!!!! I have been sick, but I'll take it!! Total of 33 down. My trip to Cancun is next week and went bathing suit shopping yesterday. It was actually a fairly pleasant experience (for the first time in a long time!) LOVE this program, I have not cheated (expect for some wine in week 5) and am amazed at how well it works, and for the most part, how easy it is. And Jerry-I am going to vote for you right now, you look fantastic!!! |

Hi everybody,
I had my second weigh-in this morning. After having lost 9.5 pounds during my first week, this week I gained 1.0 pound. At first I thought "what the is up with that?" I hadn't even added any fruit yet, for fear it migth kick me out of ketosis. I only added 2 cups of organic baby romaine mixed with cucumbers and dressed it with a little vinegar, once per day (usually with dinner). I mean...I have been soooooo good on the plan ![]() So, I was sitting in my car in the doctor's parking lot, feeling really sorry for myself, and preparing to go down the "I've tried so hard and can't lose weight" road yet again, when I noticed something about the numbers on the little print out from the scale they give you. Here's what mine says: Total weight change +1.0# Fat Mass change -0.5# Fat Free Mass change +1.5# (this includes bone, muscle, water, hair, and anything else in your total weight that is not fat). Total Water change +1.0# Since the water weight is included in the Fat Free mass number, and I gained 1.5# of FFM and 1# of water, that means I gained 0.5# of something other than water or fat (right?). I'm guessing it's my jeans (I only wore light leggings last week). And I know it's not muscle because I didn't exercise this week. Soooo, now I'm thinking, maybe I did ok after all. Please somebody tell me if I'm interpreting these numbers correctly. I gained a pound of water (which changes drastically by the hour with me), and gained a half a pound of jeans. BUT I LOST HALF A POUND OF FAT! So it is working. It's often at this point in prior diets when I've given up. But perhaps all this time the scale has been reflecting things that really do not represent the hard work I've put into eating on plan?! If I'm understanding those numbers correctly (somebody please tell me if I'm doing something wrong), then I have to say, just being able to see the breakdown of my weight components alone is worth every penny I pay the clinic. Well, that and the AS ![]() I think it saved me from a downward spiral. This week anyway... Thoughts...?

Heather T - Week 7? 9 lbs!!! That is amazing!!! My clinic said I should be very happy with my 3.5's and 4's since my 9.5 in week 1...but now I'm starting to wonder if they're just being nice. Congratulations...I'm sure you'll look (and more importantly feel) great in your swim wear.

I've had good weeks and bad weeks, and while I dont know exactly what you're doing wrong (I dont think you're doing anything wrong at this point) - all I can tell you is that there is more to this than the scale. Its a change in your way of life. Down the road you're going to see how this program changes everything and you'll be soo glad that you stuck through it. If you want, blog your intake daily so we can monitor you. List daily in the Energy In/Out thread and we can help keep tabs and make suggestions. It could also be hormonal... I know that during my PMS weeks, my weight and food choices fluctuate. I also know that if I dont have a BM, the results on the scale change too and it effects my success rate. Good luck!

I take the colon cleanse and it doesnt help me go, just makes it easier for me to go... in order to stimulate the process, I take a tea called Manasul. There are other teas out there and you can get them either in the grocery store or natural/herbal store. The thing with the teas is the longer you steep them, the stronger the effect. Its less painful and provides the results you need. |

Love the forum. Been reading it for the past 10 days and it's been very helpful. A few questions for the group:
-I added 2 servings of veggies or 1 veggie 1 fruit this week. And while the apple I had at lunch on Wednesday may have been the tastiest thing I've ever had, I've noticed that when I eat anything besides protein at lunch that I am starving in the afternoon! I've stuck with just veggies the past two days instead of 1 veggie 1 fruit but i still get hungry. Was not hungry on week 1 at all. Still taking AS. Is this normal? Does it go away? -I workout with a trainer 3x a week for about an hour and a half and have done so for years. I am training for a sprint-tri in September (have done races and such before). On average I burn about 500 calories a session if not more. Is it dangerous to eat as few calories as we are eating and work out this hard? I started back with my trainer today and I feel great, but I don't want to mess anything up! Thanks for your advice! |

Your still required to eat 500 calories of protein daily and add the veggies/fruits to your meal or add them as a snack. Hope that helps. Quote:
