McBoo~I've read some of your previous posts and I'm glad to see you're still checking in on us here. I've decided I need to print out my initial postings here and read them time to time to remember how bad it was at the time. I don't want to be "there"
again! Thanks for the pep talk! Debbie

Hi Elizabethgrace,
Yes you are correct the program is great in getting us back on track. My clinic too is really good and supportive.
My problem is ME! I get to wrapped around my job, I had planned to work over the weekend and decided against it. I don't have to work weekends, I don't even get paid overtime! Instead I used the time to go grocery shopping, prepare mt food for the week and go to the gym. It's about my choices and what's important to me.
Thanks for the support.

Good job Karla! Thats a great way to start the week.
I haven't felt that food prep has been that time consuming, I get a meat, season it and on the George Foreman. I will probably need to branch out at some point, but for now it seems to be working (and most of the time my family will actually eat it too) The gym is a different story, that does take some planning!
And thanks everyone for the pep talks! When my Medi-buddy isn't around, i have to come here to keep being inspired, and there are so many successes here!

On the right path again...I'm thankful I was fortunate the diversion didn't do more physical harm (less than 1/2 lb), however, psychologically it just takes a little longer to get back into it. I still have 14 days to make February weight loss awesome! How does that saying go "I'm going to be so hot I'll sizzle?!" Just because I got a little more comfortable in my current clothes doesn't mean the journey is over...I still have health issues and flab to conquer! Oh yeah, and that I want to be Fit in 2010~

Anyone up for starting a food journal/exercise/accountability thread this week? My weight loss is slowing down and I know I need to start tightening things up even more.

You can do this, 2010. This is your year!

I downloaded an awesome itunes package. I'll have to find the link. It is the couch to 5K concept, except that it is set to music and the narrator tells you when to run and when to stop. The music is set to the appropriate steps per minute. Just thought I'd post in case anyone else is trying to get back into running like me.

Hi LostinAusten, The itunes package link sounds interesting, be sure to tell me how to pick the ones where it tells you how to pace your steps, walk and stop. I talked with my doctor last Monday and he said women at my age (53) really don't need to be RUNNING, that just fast walking is better as it causes less wear and tear on our "pelvic girdle" that has already had a lack of tone from having babies and then losing muscle mass. I really think visiting with him, and also hearing him say my 140 goal may be too lofty helped to make me "give in" to temptations some this week and not be as motivated. Harrumph! Just when I finally get all motivated! He's a fit guy too and all these years has been preaching to me about eating right and exercising.

So, I don't know that I'll promise to be a marathon runner someday, but I do have a goal of jogging that 5K in September. I just want to be healthy, even if it's bicycling, fast walking, and strength training. It's better than the couch spot I've occupied for about 15 years!

As far as a thread goes for eating and exercise accountability, sounds good to me...you want to start it? I'm on the run so much with school and work I might not be as disciplined and detailed as you like, but I'll try!

Hi, Carrie Ellen,

Welcome to Medi!! Don't be nervous. Ask your clinic counselors anything you
need to understand the program. And stay in contact with your Medi forum buddies. We all need each other!!

Not to contradict your doctor, but there are exercises that us "Nifty Fifty" ladies can do to strengthen the pelvic girdle. They are similar to those taught to pregnant ladies to aid in childbirth.

My goal is 150, I'm 5'8". But I was told 160 would be better. The explanation was that older ladies should not go below the recommended weight and height charts in order to properly fight off illness, sustain surgery, etc.

I guess I will wait and see how I feel at 160!!!

Hi LostinAusten,
I'm definitely up for the food journal/exercise/accountability! For me I don't want to make other things, like my job a priority over my health.

Yes we can certainly do this in 2010, this is OUR year!

Please do share the itunes link. I used to run and was very active but stopped after my car accident 3 yrs ago and since then have gained 100 pounds! Been going to the gym the last 2 mths and I've seen the difference.

Thanks
~Karla

LostinAusten & Determined Gemini - I've never started a thread and won't have time to monitor it all day long working long 4 days a week and in grad school. But look for our accountability in MWL. NOTE: For food and fitness accountability only; other dialogues to go on the regular MWL threads. Here goes... it's called: Energy In (Food) and Energy Out (Exercise)

Hi Fit2010,
I saw that thread and it ended in Nov. I was looking for something this month or for March. I understand how difficult it is to keep up with the status. But for me it will be very good to do and keep in check!
Thanks

hi all-

i was just wondering, for those of you who have had surgery while doing medi - how long did the "water weight" from the iv, etc, last?

i was SO GOOD this past week, despite being snowed in, on painkillers, etc, and somehow i have managed to go from 164 the morning of my surgery to 166 -167. i am feeling so depressed about it. at first i thought it was the extra fluid from the iv, but my surgery was friday and today is monday, so i think that probably would have worn off by now.. right?

could the painkillers somehow be making me put on weight? i really have no rational explanation. i have been eating perfectly!

thanks!

The painkillers are absolutely a factor in not losing. 3 weeks ago I took them for a broken toe and gained 3 lbs. I did eat saltine crackers to ward off nausea because pain pills do not sit well on my stomach. But the narcotics slow down your metabolism.

sunshines6 and elizabethgrace - It's just that your body has rallied up extra healing fluids and inflammed your body due to "injury."

DeterminedGemini- look around, I placed a new thread and its around the Feb thread when I look at the main Medi pages of threads. Look for my name as author to find it Fit2010. I don't know how to cut and paste a link to put it here for you to click on. I'm just glad I could get the thread started!

That thread is a nice touch, just remember that it really does not take the place of your personal journal. I would be a lost cause without my journalling. I have one for dreams, one for food, one for general purposes. I guess I am just a writer at heart.

Hi HeatherT,
You're right food prep doesn't take a lot of time but since I spend so much time on the road it's easier and tempting to go to a drive through.
I agree with you, coming to this site is very inspiring and gets me motivated readying so many people's success stories!

Hi Guys-so 6 weeks and I have lost a total of 30 pounds and 12 inches in my waist-I was able to buy a pair of size 10 jeans and found all my size 8's in my old closet to prepare for spring--I do have some questions

#1 The fish oil-we are butting heads and fins--if I freeze them I still burp the fish taste and then I gag and usually throw up all the water I just drank to wash them down-lol I have a very sensative gag reflex--so I bought the coated-non burp kind--my face is now so oily I look and feel soooo gross!! and I have broke out for the very first time since I started this journey--Any other suggestions--I know it is important-but not sure what to do to help make it more tolarable--

#2 Clothes-oh what to do-have any of you had any of your nicer dress type jeans altered-if so what kind of luck--my 14's are hanging off and do not fit at all-but I really have no desire to spend more money on 10's right now I have one pair I got from Sams--12.99 got to love that-and a pair of 10s that I had to squeeze into about 4 years ago-not sure what to do--

#3MIC injection-mine have sometimes burned-but today it hurt-I consider to have a pretty high tolerance for pain-but today I had tears it hurt for like 10 mins after-any ideas--the clinic said it might be bruised to switch sides next time--I was worried maybe it was not given to me deep enough-

Anyway-I am very happy with the 30 pounds over half way to my goal and feeling so good--but everytime I look in the mirror I am reminded I have loss 30 but still have more to go--and I look like this now-I never want to look like what I did 30 pounds before.

Cori,

On the mic injection do you get it in your arm or your hip?
You may want to change sides like they suggested also ask them to go slower with the injection. It does make a difference.

Cori - watch out for food at Denny's...that is a bit of a mine field. As for chicken type sausages and links there are several types at Trader Joe's that are medi friendly and I found some at Fry's (Kroger's) by al fresco. These are Roasted Garlic with onions and herbs..chicken sausage, They are large links - 140 calories/3g carbs/fat is okay at 7g and sodium is at 480mg. Nice treat.

Hi all!

Well today I did my first day of Couch Potato to 5K! Im excited about it, it wasnt hard and I need to tone up! I have realized that I shouldnt care what ppl think about me running around my community and that I need to do this for myself! There was a great podcast on itunes by "chubby Jones" she is inspriring and plays some good music too!

Cori,

There have been times when my injections hurt too and others when I didnt feel a thing. I believe being a nurse, its placement and technique. It should be a muscular injection and sometimes I think they go too low with it. It should be in your hip not your cheek! There is one NP at the center that I will not let give me injections anymore. If you do tell them to "go slow" make sure they dont insert the needle slow, just the contents of the syringe! : )

CCCOX - sometimes when you get the shots the needle hits a nerve bundle and it makes it hurt a hundred times more. In my time getting shots I have had this a few times. I ask them to stop and try again in another spot -they always have and don't charge me for two...
Sunshine - be kind to yourself - surgery is a BIG thing to do to your body. I suggest staying on the program and staying off the scale for a bit to not add more stress. If you stay with the program - it will all happen....
McBoo! Just giving you a shout out

Ok-lost 40 lbs in 4 months. Maintained within 2 lbs for 4 months. No backslides and that includes having wine, cheese and chocolate...you CAN have it ALL in maintenance if you are smart and balance a day's consumption properly. I walk 3 to 5 days a week about 3.5 miles. I lift one day a week for 45 minutes. This has been the EASIEST weight loss program EVER and the maintenance is a snap! This WOE works for ME!!

I quit AS about halfway through my program at the 2 month mark. Only took half the suggested dose from the beginning so I still have about a 4 month supply of AS leftover as I kept picking it up at clinic. Two reasons-they were charging me $70 a week and providing basically nothing beyond a weigh in and a shot-the accountability was good for me but once I understood the program, I could have done it alone with the help of this board. But I took the AS...as I was "paying" for it. Second reason, thinking I needed the AS like a crutch...I didn't and you don't...it's all psychological after the initial physiological change in consumption!! You are probably almost through it...just need to reset your thought process to say YES I CAN!!

This is a SHORT TERM life change in eating whether the term is a few months or a year or more. It works! It also does a wonderful job of FIXING metabolic issues created by other diets or lack of diets.

It's not easy...nothing worth having is...but if you want to lose weight and MAINTAIN it..this program is one of the best!! I saw your note that said you are leaving the program again. I hope you find the WOE that works for you, your budget and your lifestyle. For the current LOSERS on the board, stick with it!! This is THE ONE THAT WORKS!! El

And congrats to those of you that have had some success on this diet. I would really love to hear about some long term success, it might give me some faith in this WOE.

I have decided that the cost and track record of this program is not for me. I have been following the program for 15 solid days and have seen the scale go down. Without the appetite suppresant, I can't take the starvation anymore. Being starving all day and waking up starving a night has obviously been a wake up call for me. The AS may have hid it from me my first bout at the program, but this doesnt FEEL healthy to me. And I have reservations about long term damage to my metabolism with such a low calorie diet. I have done this sort of thing in the past, and that is why I am in the position I am in now, can't afford to risk it again.

Best of luck to all of you, I really hope you find what you are looking for. If this plan works for you, more power to you! I wish you the best! I just cannot ignore the nagging in my brain telling me that I can live this way forever, and that I might be doing more harm than good.

I know sizes have changed over the years but when I weighed 125-130 lbs. I wore a size 10. This was 20 years ago.
Now I am reading on posts that a size 10 is 140-150 lbs. I realize body type is involved, but am I on the right track

Woohoo! Went and weighed in this morning, 3 more lbs gone and a new avatar! I am not hungry and I do not feel deprived at all! I made a flourless, fudgy chocolate cake for Valentine's Day and it was amazing! And only 7g of carbs for a pretty generous piece. Even my hubby (who HATES diet food) loved it and is eating it days later!

CCCOX - I have used fish oil before and cannot stand the fishy burps. I switched to a flax seed omega3/6 and have not had nearly the same effects at all. A few burps, but no where near as nasty or as frequent. I got my big bottle from Sam's. Also, Sam's has amazing chicken sausages that are 110 cals, they have several different flavors and they are amazing! I cook up several at a time and then store them in different ziploc baggies or tupperware containers, that way when I am hungry or in a rush I already have something I can grab. And I have had my jeans taken in, if you find a good tailor they do a very nice job. It can cost between $10-15.

Had my second weigh-in today and another 1.8 is gone! I was hoping for more and feeling disappointed until my counselor pointed out that I had lost 5.8 lb. of FAT this week! I'm just retaining lots of water! So...what to do about that? Other than drinking lots more water (already drinking at least 128 oz.) and cutting way down on the sodium?
