The doctor at my clinic said at least 32 ounces of electrolyte enhanced water a day. I drink one of those 33 oz bottles of smart water everyday. If you aren't a big water drinker, you can do crystal light or power aide zero but I would shoot for the 32 ounces. |

Experiences that make you say ahhh
Future hot bods...
I travel extensively for business...let me just say the work serves as an extreme detriment to good health. The darn bagels and donuts are everywhere. Throw in the hotel free continental breakfast and managers nightly reception and you got yourself a lard *ss. This week I was informed on Sunday night I had to be in Poli-wood (DC) on Monday morning. Needless to say between my 3 kids midterm prep and this news flash I had little time to pack. I grabbed a few suits that had been in the dry cleaners since before Christmas and off I went. The next morning I had to give a presentation. I grabbed the first suit. Zipped up the skirt and oops almost to the floor it fell. Grabbed the next suit zipped up and to the floor it fell! wah hooo!!!!!!! Had to scramble (with jeans on temporarily) to the front desk for an emergency repair kit hahaha. You just got to love this plan!!! BTW didn't have a single donut! Remember....a moment on the lips forever on the hips...unless you join Medi!!!!!!!

Congratulations Jerry from a fellow clinic member!! I'm so excited for you! You must truly feel like a huge weight has been lifted off your life, giving you extra hope, better health, and great purpose! You look great! (And I recognize the call sign KSN...my daughter interned at the TV station for 3 summers several years ago). So proud of you!
One of the things I'm doing differently in the past few days is checking for ketones several times a day, even taking a few strips to work with me. I can see where it would be so easy to lie to myself...but when the strips turn to maroon the truth is right in front of me! Deb

First, for the plane or the car, at least 2 protein bars per day of travel and one small bag of peanuts per day. The bars are for EMERGENCY only. Like you get to the airport and can find no MWL friendly options, eat the bar. If they have Starbucks order the egg white, turkey bacon sandwich-ask for a fork, toss the bread and enjoy! It's pretty good!
When I travel for work, my first stop from the airport is a grocery store. I buy enough water and Powerade Zero to meet my daily fluid requirements. Depending on my meal commitments I buy those meals I can eat on my own if I don't have to join others. Sometimes I pick up food to eat BEFORE the business meals. I have a refrigerator request on all of my hotel chain profiles so 99% of the time I have a fridge. Kroger has a great low carb yogurt and you can get spoons in the deli. Lunch meat, cheese, some spicy mustard, already hard boiled eggs, lf cottage cheese, and from produce-the sliced berries or some fruit and the cut up celery or some other medifriendly veggie. Also can do frozen single veggies if you have a fridge with a freezer or will be eating that night. And Hormel Turkey Pepperoni requires no refrigeration until it's opened. Honestly, the fruit and veggies are kind of an afterthought. I make sure I have enough calories of protein and enough water to meet my daily requirements. If you MUST eat with people, hit the breakfast bar in the hotel. There is always a medi friendly option...eggs, cottage cheese, canadian bacon, ham, and sausage...not perfect from a fat perspective but focus on getting your protein. Lunch and dinner-if you don't choose the food and it's served to you-eat just the PROTEIN...skip everything else!! You know food for large groups is loaded with salt, fat, oil etc. Eat the protein and if you need more calories, eat a bar or something you have stored in your fridge. I got caught without food, due to a tornado, while in Memphis. I bought a bag of peanuts and a Lean Cuisine in the hotel lobby. I ate the peanuts. Cooked the LC, ate the meat and tossed the carby pasta. Ate extra eggs in the morning........you can do this! I have had cabs drop me at grocery stores, shopped and then taken another cab to the hotel. Inconvenient and a little more costly BUT overall your food costs vs restaurant dining will be less and justifiable...tell them you wanted to work through dinner so you dined in! It's your health and weight! You are in CONTROL of what you eat! Good luck all you travelers! I'm a road warrior and was able to drop 40 lbs in 12 weeks while travelling! YOU CAN DO IT! El Quote:

Second weigh in tomorrow! Today I went out to a Mexican restaurant with my friends after church....I chewed my gum the whole time everyone around me ate the tortilla chips...I just looked at them as "poison" that would un-do me! (Remember my possible food allergy to corn? Besides, it's not allowed!) I ordered a side order of Carnitas (literally only the roasted pork meat) and a tossed salad, no dressing. I took 2/3 of the pork and 1/2 of the salad home for other meals. I visited with my friends and was completely satisfied. It was yummy! Plus I drank 2 glasses of water there. This will work in my life...I will make it work!

Good for you! You have to celebrate every victory and every good choice. I went out for breakfast after church this morning per my husband's wishes (which I reluctantly agreed to since I prefer to eat at home where I have more control). I must admit that even though I am in maintenance, I always worry that I will make the wrong choice when ordering out. I ordered a london broil off the brunch menu and asked for double vegetables in place of the mashed potatoes. It came with double grilled asparagus (my favorite vegetable) and the meat was lean, tender and tasty, one of the best meals I've had in ages. It can be done and we can enjoy it.

Susie...Yummmm. That does sound good! I love grilled asparagus too. I have some spears I bought, put in sandwich baggies and froze...I've warmed up to eat for meals a couple times this week but hadn't thought of the grill. Thanks!

The tale of 2 Christmastimes
Sorry I have not posted much lately... but I have definitely NOT fallen off the wagon. In fact I have reached the 100 pounds lost mark! I have not recorded it yet in my stats because I need to confirm it at clinic!
The say a picture is worth a thousand words...... so here are 2000 of them to make up for not posting for awhile! Christmas 2008 Christmas 2009 (100 pounds lighter... thanks to Medi) Thanks to all who have encouraged me thus far....... I am looking forward to a reaching goal weight in 2010 so Christmas '10 will be another 1000 words!
