Ideas for creating a holiday shake??

Ok MWL peeps -- I went to the clinic this week and now I'm on a mission!!! I got the recipe card my clinic had for the "pumpkin spice" and "apple pie" Medi shakes, and they are GREAT!! I actually like the pumpkin spice better, which surprised me, but anyway, they are both awesome!!

SO it has really gotten me inspired to tap the collective creativity in the group and see if we can come up with some "holiday" shake ideas to curb the cravings this holiday and enjoy the season in our own MWL way!!

What I want to start off with is trying to replicate that one item that I am seriously thinking way too much about! I'm sure there's a way to do this with the MWL shake mix, maybe some peppermint extract and truvia??? Anyone have any ideas?! I was pregnant last winter and definitely enjoyed this shake, and now that i'm in maintenance i am not going to get one, but i'd sure like to find a creative way to enjoy it MWL style!! What do you guys think, any thoughts, recipe ideas for this or other holiday season shakes? I'd be happy to post the ones I mentioned above from my clinic if anyone wants them?

OK, here goes -- maybe I'll make this the "Medi Protein Shake Recipe" thread!

Pumpkin Spice Shake

1 Scoop Medi Vanilla Whey Protein Shake
6-8 oz cold water & 4-5 ice cubes (I use unsweetened Almond Milk and ice)
1 Tsp Pumpkin Pie Spice & 1 Tsp Splenda Brown Sugar
4 Oz Dannon Carb & Sugar Control Vanilla Yogurt
1/4 Cup Canned Pumpkin

*Mix all ingredients in a blender, blend to desired thickness, enjoy!*

This came from my Medi Clinic. I changed it a bit and used unsweetened Almond Milk instead of water & did not use the Yogurt, it was plenty thick! The recipe above is listed as I got it from my clinic! I also put a dollop of Cool Whip on the top of my shake, it tastes like a pumpkin pie, awesome!!

Protein Calories: 151
Total Calories: 175
Total Carb: 3 grams
(as listed above, not sure the calorie/carb difference how I made it with almond milk instead of the yogurt and water!)

Here is another one I got from my clinic:

1 Scoop Medi Vanilla Whey Protein Shake
6-8 Oz Cold Water & 4-5 Ice Cubes
1/4 Cup No Sugar Added Apple Pie Filling
4 Oz Dannon Carb & Sugar Control Vanilla Yogurt
1/2 Tsp Cinnamon & Nutmeg

*Mix all the ingredients in the blender, and blend until desired thickness!*

I got this from my clinic, but I changed it a bit. I used Unsweetened Almond Milk in lieu of the water and vanilla yogurt. I also put a dollop of Cool White Lite/Free on top to make it just like apple pie! Very good!!

Protein Calories: 151
Total Calories: 175
Total Carb: 3 grams
(as listed above, not sure the calorie/carb difference how I made it with almond milk instead of the yogurt and water!)

Thanks so much for posting these. These sound delicious and I can't wait to try them. I had another idea after having a pumpkin flavored coffee today, but haven't had the chance to experiment yet. Could be the makings for a great frappicino (sp?).

Just a suggestion, but would you mind also posting these on the drink recipe thread which is stickied so that they don't get lost. I understand your posting this on a special thread for the holidays, but these recipes look good and I would hate for them to get buried.

Tracy, I can't find it either -- so I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk in lieu of water and yogurt as listed in the recipe, and it works great! No harris teeter in my area in charlotte carries it, I can't find it either, but the almond milk worked great for mine!

Hot Buttered Rum Protein Shake

Use your vanilla protein powder, ice, water and add 1/2 - 1 tsp of rum extract and sprinkles of nutmeg and cinnamon to your taste (I got heavy on the nutmeg and light on the cinnamon). If you have ever had hot buttered rum you know how good this is!

How about moving the shake recipe info over to the Drinks Recipe thread as Susie has suggested? And we do have a recipe question and comments thread begun already. Susie is right...this one is going to get lost...and the recipes with it. I agree with Susie here.

I've never had the shake you are trying to make but I would start with the following for my ingredients and tweak as needed:

Medi Choc Shake Mix
Almond Milk
Water
Sugar Free Torani Peppermint Syrup

Oh yes! This was my favorite holiday treat last year (the peppermint shake at CFA) and I hate to say that I did have 2 this past week! YIKES! But I'm CONFIDENT that we can find a way to make this here - I like what Angela posted to start us off and I think I'll try to get the syrup this week! Do they sell that in any local (NC) grocery stores or would I be better off trying Netrition.com?

Jennifer,
Sometimes I see some in the grocery stores but it tends to only be SF Vanilla.

This is an exerpt from an email I got from HG today... Yum!

It's the Great Pumpkin, Hungry Girl!
True, it's been a rough few months of gazing at the empty market shelves where the canned pumpkin should be. But -- good news -- the pumpkin shortage is OVER! One thing to note: The pumpkin you get from your cans of Libby's may have a slightly different texture than before (a little softer). However, that kind of thing happens with all-natural products and varies from crop to crop. Who cares? Pumpkin is back! And can you handle MORE good pumpkin news? Torani's seasonal Sugar Free Pumpkin Pie Syrup is HERE! (Like all of Torani's SF syrups, it has ZERO calories per serving.) I

Chocolate Peppermint Milkshake!

OK guys, I did a test run last night, and it was not great -- I did a GNC choc. low carb protein powder, unsweetened vanilla almond milk, and peppermint extract, and ice cubes. It was ok, a little runny, and just decent.

So tonight, here is what i tried and it was AWESOME!!!

1 scoop vanilla protein powder
8 oz Chocolate Unsweetened Almond Milk
1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
3 packs of Truvia
4-6 Ice Cubes

*Mix all ingredients in the blender and blend until desired thickness!*

** I wanted it a little thicker, so I added a bit of Sugar Free/Fat Free Instant Chocolate Pudding Mix, worked great! Also, I added a dollop of Cool Whip, which was really the perfect touch!

Let me know if you tweak this to make it better!!

Tried the pumpkin shake today... umm.. not impressed Sorry. I was super excited but it just left this bad chemical-ish taste in my mouth and was not nearly sweet enough to qualify as a "shake" in my book. I'm not a fan of the Medi shakes already, so maybe for those of you who are this will be yummy? I cannot get over the processed taste. I think that's what was putting me off.

Oh well. For me, I'd rather have nothing than have something that has a processed, chemical flavor. Not a fan of diet shakes in general only because of flavor. It's all me, though, there was nothing wrong with the recipe at all.

Soooo, the moral of the story is, if you like the Medi shakes, you'll probably like this!

There are other protein powders out there...not a knock against medi's but I have heard they taste very "chemical like"....check out GNC's brand Optimum Nutrition 100% whey protein...tastes very good.

I have tried the Jillian Michaels Whey protein too and thought the same. I'm kind of wary of them now. No big loss for me, hasn't been an issue in terms of loss

The shakes are not required...at all...in fact Medi never even offered to sell me them. Through research on my own and word of mouth I discovered how important Whey Protein can be post-workout for rebuilding your muscles. Also they are a great low cal source of protein and fill you up...and you can get very creative with them, make ice cream, etc.

Check out the recipe I posted in the Medi Friend Drinks Recipes sticky.

I use the Jay Robb Whey Protein vanilla powder. The taste is fantastic. Best I have ever found. My sons even prefer this over any other morning drink mix. Matter of fact, the youngest has asked for a Peanut Butter, Banana, Almond milk Protein shake to be his exclusive before football breakfast He can't get enough of the stuff lol.

On the Recipe Help and Suggestions board there's a thread for the shakes called "The Great American Low Carb Protein Shake Taste Test Thread" if anyone's interested. I got some great ideas from there.

On a side note, I found the large bottles of Torani SF syrup in Caramel and Vanilla at Big Lots for $5.50 this week.
