It's amazing to me that finally after struggling with my weight for nearly my entire twenties this diet actually works. I follow the plan and go to yoga for exercise. It works.

Hi all day one over starting day 2. Had some hunger at night but I only took two of my appetite suppressants so today I will be taking all three. It was so hard not to weigh myself this morning.
Anyone have any advice for sugar cravings?
Here we go day 2 wish me luck!

Hi Malloryann11,
I dont know about anyone else, but the crystal light packets to go have really helped with the needed for sugary flavored stuff and electrolytes balancing. I usually have three a day because my ketosis is really high and so my dr. says to have three to balance me off; also, it really helps with drinking all the water. I guess another option would be the Medi Shakes - everytime Ive gone they have given me a flavored shake which isnt that bad... Hope you can find something that is a happy medium.

It was gratifying but at the same time I realized that it did not solve anything even though I have been feeling like I have been denying myself so many things.
Don't think of it as a failure, just a momentary slip up. According to your avatar, you've had a great deal of success so far. You may be denying yourself foods that you love, but you're giving yourself the gift of feeling fit and confident again. Not a bad trade. Don't beat yourself up. You've done great. Hope your stress works itself out.

Nick80, keep on truckin'! You've come a long way and can do it. There will be bumps in the road like you just experienced, but continue on and you should do fine. Don't beat yourself up over it, just take control and keep on movin'! Hope you have a better week!

Today I found this store couple of miles from my house called Sugarless Delights low carb bakery, sugar free bakery, diabetic bakery | Sugarless Delite (Powered by CubeCart)

He has been there for 20 years and I just found them. The owner Rick was so friendly and he was running around giving me samples of everything. What was great, he was very familiar with Medi program and he would tell me which products were good for Acute or maintenance.
Beside the entire Walden Farms product he has around 830 items from Sauces, pastas, Bread Mixes, Chocolate desserts, etc...

He makes frozen yogurt and other cakes too. He had a delicious cheesecake with 2g carbs.

I walked out with a bagful. For folks in Dallas, check it out. He also ships products nationally.

Simply amazing.

MediInDallas-

I love the sugar free pop rocks! Fun idea!

Also, unless I find this product closer to home, I am DEFINITELY going to call him and order the Baja Bob's Margarita Mix. I am so thankful that you showed me this website! I don't drink anymore, but I would be so happy to sip on a "margarita" on the rocks from time to time and would probably not even care to ask a waiter to whip this up for me....how convenient (and worth it)!

I was thinking around 2 but when I stepped on that scale and it said I was down 5 I was so happy!! Such good news after a horrible day! My car died at work!! Now I have a rental until it gets fixed .... But on the bright side...

I'm down 11.1 pounds in 2 weeks! Wahooo!!

I'm so thankful for all of the recipes! What a life saver they are! Keeps things from getting boring!!!

So now it's on to week 3!!! Hope it's as good as this one! Here I go!!

Hi All -
Nick -you can do it - great that you wrote about it!
Jennifer - take care of yourself - and hope you feel better soon!

A word of caution for those who are in acute - looking at 'net carbs' can be a slippery slope - weight loss can be slowed and even stalled if you focus on these numbers...
From personal experience - my body knew exactly what I was eating and was not happy when I tried to introduce something that was more 'real' carbs than my body wanted.
I found that I immediately craved real carb food and carb restriction is why this program worked for me.

I believe it is because foods - like the Atkins bars - are really processed and artificial -
and to me the entire Medi program is built on the foundation of good quality food.

More power to you if this is not true for you, but don't kid yourself if it isn't...

I go there too, Andy, every week. I love that they let you taste and compare sauces, bars, yogurts, etc, so you don't end up wasting a ton of money on things you may not like. I live down by Northpark Mall, so when I venture as far north as Sugarless DeLite, I take my cooler with ice packs and get my frozen yogurt for the week. It's so rich tasting that my non-dieting man usually eats it all before I can get to it. His favorite flavor is butterscotch - tastes like praline pecan, yummy!
The owner is very familiar with our program and will tell you exactly what to steer clear of because of calories, etc. Did he happen to show you the Perfect 10 Western Bagels? Even though they have 140 calories and 19 carbs per bagel, they also have 9 grams of fiber and 18 grams of protein each. I have eaten 1/2 a bagel once or twice a week with continued weight loss and counted it toward my protein calories. The bagels freeze well too.
Three cheers for Sugarless DeLite!

Road to Maintenance

Question for folks who are in Maintenance. How long did it take you to get out of Ketosis? For the 40 days straight I have been somewhere between large and extra large on the stik and I'm wondering what happens next. Would it be possible to stay in Ketosis if you don't really change anything in the way you eat? Any harms?

Basically what's next for me?

Thanks in advance.

How much water do you drink? How much exercise are you getting? My clinic said if you are in the large or extra large range that you are dehydrated. There is no harm in still being in ketosis for awhile as long as you are well hydrated. You will probably continue to lose pounds for a while.

For me, I fell out of ketosis right away because I had a couple of beers for the first time when I started maintenance. You should start adding more fruits and veggies to your diet and you can add grains too which will throw you out of ketosis. It's not necessary to be in ketosis while in maintenance. Just listen to your body and what you can handle without cravings and adverse side effects. For me, I can't have bread products unless they are gluten free. I found that wheat products give me migraines! 20+ years of chronic migraines and it took this WOE to figure it out!

Week 2 was hard. A little confusing and scary. I managed to get through it and have just one more day before weighing in.

It was hard incorporating the veggies I liked. I didnt do any fruit because I didnt want to complicate matters. I was planning to introduce fruits next week.

I dont like raw veggies (except for carrots - which are not allowed, and celery sticks). So measuring cooked veggies was a struggle, and again Im pretty sure I went over on calories every day.

Im still in Ketosis, so I dont I think I'll do too bad. We'll just have to see.

Andy, I started maintenance on October 8th, so I'm no expert by any means. I completely stopped testing once in maintenance, so I wouldn't know if I were in ketosis. I do not think I am in ketosis, however, because I have no odd taste in my mouth or bad breath I associated with ketosis and the AS. I do step on the scale more frequently now to make sure I don't stray upward, but just don't test for ketosis. You might call and ask what they recommend at the clinic.
By the way, since you are also in Dallas, I want to let you know about another low carb product source, Francis Simun Bakery on Commerce Street in the Deep Ellum area. Among other things, such as gluten-free breads, they sell low carb bread products. All of their low carb products use the same basic recipe combining organic wheat gluten, garbanzo flour, black bean flour, canola oil, golden flax seed, wheat germ, molasses, onion, yeast & sea salt.
According to their Nutrition Facts label on their loaf of bread, a 25 gram slice has 41 calories, 2.48 grams of carbohydrate, 1 gram of fiber and 4 grams of protein. I have tried the bread, hot dog bums, bagel chips & seasoned croutons and all were good, denser but more flavorful than most bread. They also bake hamburger buns, pizza crusts and tortillas. Since all use the same recipe, nutritional values for each of their low carb products may be determined by weighing on a food scale and applying the values provided for the 25g slice of bread. The bakery bakes to order, so if I call my order in on one day, the order is baked the following day when it will be ready for pick up after 4 pm.
Congrats on getting to maintenance so quickly!
-Jane

I agree.. It was difficult for me too. I was nervous to use any of those recipes but I'm glad that I did because some of them have the protein and veggies all together so there really isn't much questioning of the measurements of the veggies. Did you try any of them yet? A quick one I used was taco salad.. I made it for dinner and was great to take for lunch the next day.

My clinic said no fruit week 2 but now I can have 1 a day and substitute a veggie if I'd like to. I'm a little afraid but I might try it! lol. Good luck with your weigh in tomorrow! Post and let us know how you did!!! Wishing you a big loss!

Weighed in today and had a disappointing 0.4 pound loss. I'm happy that I'm now in ONEderland though! But the nurse said the antibiotic I was on this week for bronchitis makes you retain a bunch of water. My water was up 3.8 pounds! Ouch. Hopefully next week I'll drop a lot of that water and some more weight as well.

Well still on track... today is kinda hard though. I got really hungry even after the appetite suppressant I am feeling pretty tired too. I have 4 more days until week 2 and I am ready for some green beans...

~Jessica~ Hi there my friend! Just remember...a loss is a loss. And the clinic is correct. Antibiotics WILL cause you to retain water...just really back off on the sodium and up the water for a day or so and you should be okay. (I live with a kidney condition every day of my life and when I fall "out of balance" that is what I do. Of course, my sodium count per day is ridiculously low compared the everyone else's but I can have the same issues.)

Hang in there my girl! You are in ONEDERLAND.....you will get where you want to go for absolute certain!
