The clinic I go to says no milk actually because of the carbs. Like the others I could not give up the coffee with cream. I also frequest Starbucks A LOT since I travel so much for work. I used to do the skinny lattes but my clinic said not a good idea. I switched to either iced or regular coffee with the Sugar Free Vanilla Syrup (which you can buy there I recently discovered) and half and half. I enjoy it just as much as my lattes.

I would run it by your clinic and see what they say. It just seems the carb count in the latte is too high. You are doing great!

Kim-I wasn't a coffe drinker until this fall. Have had bad allergy problems and something hot is the only thing that will cut the drainage some mornings. I asked my M-I-L for coffee suggestions and she directed me to some flavored coffees she drinks. I can't stand the taste, so flavored with 1/2 & 1/2 and one splenda packet is getting me up and going in the mornings now. The place I work has a 4-cup pot and after 1 of those, I'm good to go for the day. Strangely, I think drinking the coffee is sort of acting like an AS for me...the coffee unsettles my stomach a little, so I don't want food for another 2-3 hrs. after I drink it.

On the ketosis front, I went back for my second shot yesterday. That's the first time in 5 weeks I have done that, but thought it might give me a little boost to get over this hump. After 4 days of protein only and the shot yesterday, I'm glad to say I saw small ketosis this morning. I plan on going protein only until Thursday, which is my regular day. Hopefully, this plan will remedy the problem. Thanks for all the advice about how to get back there!

Update - Back Pain

Thanks ladies for all your feedback.

I've narrowed it down.

I do not have a gallbladder - so that's out.

It's not muscle related - I've only been walking.

I'm thinking, that since I've up'd my water intake 10 fold, it must be either kidney or bladder related. I'm making a doctors appointment for today... the pain was really bad last night - to the point I thought I'd go to the ER.

I'll keep you posted.

Thanks!!!

493/259/250!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

9 more to go! Although that is just a formality...heck, I'm gonna keep losing until it stops! Well, anyway, I am re-evaluting the goal and will work with the Doc...maybe lower it to 230 or 220. I know I can't go too low because I do have 15-25 pounds of skin.

Congratulations Jerry!!!

As far as my doctors appointment goes, I have to wait for test results - the doctor added one more maybe - a kidney stone.

My bladder is definately enflamed and they found blood in my urine. Because of the water I've been drinking, I never felt any symptoms other than back pain... normally there's burning, frequent urination or lack of.

We'll see until then.

Thanks everyone!!

I don't know what is wrong with me the past couple of days. I have SERIOUSLY been not wanting to eat anything. I have NEVER been like that before. It has been a huge chore to eat anything and the idea of it just makes me nauseous. Especially today. I'm not sure how I'm going to get all my calories and protein in today. I had a protein shake this morning. What do the rest of you do when you really don't feel like eating and feel nauseous?

Even with the AS I still feel the need to eat. However, there are days that I do feel dry mouth and nauseous, so I drink a protein shake.

Good luck, I hope you feel better.

How about a salad for lunch?

Week Two Finally Down!

I really didnt think I would lose this week due to having ate out twice (but staying within my boundaries). To my dismay I actually lost 5 pounds. I have now officially lost 14 pounds in two weeks. This is so awesome.

I have been experiencing some hives  , and I think it is due to the AS, but the effect of the AS on my hunger far outweighs the annoyance of the hives. I will start adding walking three times a week to see if this helps increases my loss. I would love to reach my third wedding anniversary (this weekend) weighing the weigh I was during our first date - Im just five pounds away!

Although I dont post a lot - please know that everyone here serves as an inspiration everyday and I look forward to hearing about your weightloss successes.

I know we all like to post our successes here but I have to post my failure. I started the program 5 weeks ago this coming Thursday. 3 of those weeks have been highly stressful due to the uncertainty of work. I know it is not an excuse but I dealt with the high anxiety I have always known how- food, so I pigged out on one of my favorites - lasagne. It was gratifying but at the same time I realized that it did not solve anything even though I have been feeling like I have been denying myself so many things.

I am going to take it day by day. I go for my weigh-in tomorrow so I expect the worse.

Anyway, anyone out there that thinks the same please dont do it. It is not worth it and we all deserve better!

Nick, no matter if ppl will admit it or not I think we have all had times like this. Right now I am not dealing with stress but I am dealing with a little bit of depression, that stems from my husband being in Iraq and it just being me and my son and we are still realativly(sp) new to the area. I have so wanted to turn to food, but so far have kept myself in check. But yesterday I was weak and did have 3 diet soda (I know bad, and was dispapointed in myself for doing it considering I had given up soda) but I had only had 6.5 hrs sleep in like 2 nights because of having to spend one in the ER with son and I HATE coffee.
Good for you for realizing it didn't solve anything and for dusting yourself off and being willing to take it day by day, thats all any of us can do.
So please don't beat yourself up over this, yeah you stumbled, but you learned a good lesson from it.

Does anyone keep track of how many grams of protein you eat a day? I'm just curious if there is an actual amount that I should be aiming for. I know my 500 calories are supposed to be protein, but some protein cals are higher in protein than others...Just curious...

~Nick80~We all have weak moments along this journey and it is how you handle them that makes the difference. You have realized what happened and why it happened and have learned from it. That is a major breakthrough that a lot of people cannot begin to wrap their head around. Good for you!!! You HAVE done that.

I posted an article from the Mayo Clinic about emotional eating that you may find helpful. It is in the thread below. I just posted it today so it may well be the most recent post.

I feel I want to go off plan. Do I deserve it?

You are doing the exact right thing by getting back on the horse and moving forward. Hang in there, you will make it!

And just as an FYI, I was "displaced" from my job of 10 years on January 26th, my last day with the company being March 13this year. I began the program in December 2008 and had not yet found this forum. I was asked back to work on September 14 this year and surprised everyone with my "transformation". So, it truly is possible to deal with anxiety and stress and work the program. You are well on your way.

Jo

If you use the Daily Plate to track everything you eat, it keeps track of your protein. You definitely have options with amounts and quality of protein for every ounce you choose.

Thanks Jo for starting the November thread!

Everyone is doing so great in learning things about themselves on this journey. I wish you all well. I am a coffee drinker, but for me, coffee IS the treat. I only have one when I need a little help suppressing my appetite or when I am going out late at night and need something to keep me awake (and not resort to food to keep me awake).

This week I lost......a "smidge" but the fat loss has always been the most important thing to me. In that respect, I did well this week and got into the 38% body fat category.....that means a "me" present (maybe something practical like workout gear)! And hey, my smidge put me in the teens, so I am going to enjoy my teen "years" this week. YAY!

I love those lattes too, but I avoid them since the carb count is very high. Daily Plate lists a Tall Sugar Free Vanilla Latte at 18 carbs. That just seems like an awlful lot of carbs to take in with one little liquid drink in one day.

The NP at my clinic said she'd prefer fat to carbs if I really couldn't live without my light coffee, but she wasn't giving me free reign. She was specifically referring to when I'm away from home and don't have the SF Creamer available. We had a little conversation about why CoffeeMate doesn't make the SF varieties in those little single serving containers. Seems like it would be a great idea for them to consider!

Hi Everyone-

I haven't been on here for a while, but wanted to congratulate everyone on their weight-loss!!! I'm happy to say my avatar has finally made the next mark...30lbs!!! My goal was to lose 40lbs by my big birthday Dec. 7th, so 8 more lbs and I'll have my 19 yr old figure back, yippee! It's amazing to me that finally after struggling with my weight for nearly my entire twenties this diet actually works. I follow the plan and go to yoga for exercise. It works.

I do use the Daily Plate to track everything I eat and my protein is always over 100% but I was just wondering if there are a certain number of grams of protein that is best to shoot for...

I'm feeling pain as well, sometimes it's dull, sometimes it's strong. I plan to call the clinic tomorrow and see what they say, but I wanted to see if any of you have already gone through this and gotten an answer from them.

Let me know.

Thanks!!
You know, I had a similar question my second week, also. I wasn't positive it was medi-related (could have lifted something or another around the house without realizing it). Just to be safe, I told my doctor during my weekly check-in and she documented it in my paperwork. That was over a month ago now and hasn't been an issue since then. I do recommend telling your doctor, too.

Ever since my second week I have experienced pain in my right side, close to the waist, so far no resolution for it. All my labs come clean, had an ultrasound, and no issues there either. Just this dull pain that sometimes is more, sometimes less, but is ever present. But if the pain is helping me lose as much as I am, I will stick with it. I call it my fat burning pain...

Ah yes, it is quite true. Do or Do not, there is no try!

And 3 "Treats" a week? Why? You can brew coffee at home and use Coffeemate (or anyone else's) SugarFree creamer, and the Torani or DaVinci Sugar Free Syrups for a whole lot less money/calories. I have been to Starbucks once since 19Dec08. I had drip coffee, brought my own creamer, and had a little Sugar Free Vanilla syrup. Actually, ya know,my own home brewed tasted better! And is considerably cheaper in so many ways. I really do hate to say this but you are sabotaging yourself, Ashley.

Sorry to be so blunt, chalk it up to a new shift working 3p-1130p and getting up at 630a TO walk and work out. I am way too tired to be politically correct. Ask Macauley. She will tell you that I will always call it as I see it.

And yes, I have my SF Coffeemate each day in my two cups of coffee. Have done this since day one. Every now and then I use the Torani SF syrup, just not too often.

I am headed for bed...way to late to be awake.
Gosh. I by no means am trying to sabatoge myself here. I feel like I have worked hard to loose the 21 pound in 3 weeks that I have.. I feel like I am doing a good job getting my proteins in and watching my carbs. Time is my issue.. with 2 young girls and 2 stores. I dont even have a coffee maker.. I dont even know how to make coffee.. LOL!
I honestly didnt realize that the carbs were "that" high though to behonest.. sigh! Makes me wonder what I would have lost by now if I had not been drinking them.. oh well! They are my "treats" though and I guess I will have to figure this out.. I will ask on Thursday when I go in since the Dr at Medi told me this was the coffee to drink there if I was going to.. I run at least 2 miles a day and I am gearing up to start training in Dec for another Triathlon in March.

Congrats to all of those who lost.. Keep up the great work! HUGS!

I don't have an answer for you, but I too asked the same question and didn't really get the response I was looking for, even from my clinic. I keep getting '500 calories from protein sources', but I am looking for a specific number of daily protein grams I should shoot for to make sure I'm getting enough protein. I try to aim for 20-25 carb grams and 20 fat grams, but I never track protein grams. I assume the issue is that non-protein sources also have protein grams so just tracking protein grams alone won't ensure 500 calories specifically from protein sources would be met. As a result, I sort of just wing it with making sure I generally have a week one type protein menu that gets me to 500 protein calories, and then just add on the veggie/fruit to get my total calories number up to the total calorie goal (but still below the fat/carb thresholds). I'm a numbers kind of gal and would prefer a specific number of protein grams to aim for, like I do with fat, carbs, and total calories. For me, this would be easier to track than 500 protein calories, and give me piece of mind I'm getting roughly enough protein per day - especially when cooking from the recipe threads or at restaurants where the calories come from mixed protein and veggie sources. It's work enough to track a chicken salad's total calories, but tedious to have to further subdivide between calories from chicken versus calories from spinach to seperare out to track the 500 protein-source calories to make sure I'm getting enough. Am I overthinking this?
Please let us know what you find out.

Whenever I feel like this- and I have had my fair share of it due to stress in my personal life, work life , and even a bout of depression from it all- I think how much money I would be wasting if I went off plan and had to make up the time the next week. That's motivation for me because this program is NOT cheap! The more we cheat on the diet, the longer it will take us to get to our goals and the more expensive it will be.

I never tracked the protein grams, just the calories. However, I did notice that the MORE grams of protein something had, the LESS likely I would be to want a snack soon after eating. The higher protein grams keeps me satisfied longer. I also pretty much keep my protein simple- a piece of chicken, steak, hamburger, turkey burger, fish. I'm not a big deli meat lover, but I do like an occasional philly cheese steak that I weigh on the scale (with the melted cheese in it).

This is a big motivator for me too. This program is a financial burden for our family. I think of the $200+ dollars per month that we could be spending on my girls but instead are spending on me losing weight. My DH is totally, completely, 100% supportive, but I still feel some level of guilt about the cost of this. So when I'm looking at that bowl of pasta or bag of candy, etc, etc, I think "Is this really worth 1 more week of payments?". So far, I haven't found anything that is

Hang in there..

Money is my motivator too. I look at the candy and cakes that are scattered all around me and I ask myself if its worth $400. So far, no cupcake is worth $400. Next week, the price of that same cup cake goes up... So, if I find a cupcake worth $480... I'll let you know!
