Ok I am starting October on a more upbeat note. Most of my posts have been real downers. So October is going to be much brighter!

My positive accomplishments thus far:
- 80 pounds gone since March 9 2009
- Down to a size 18 from a tight size 28
- Incredible energy and zeal for life
- Exercising at least 45 minutes every single day
- Eating healthy for LIFE!
- Just feeling pretty good about myself in general
- Finding LCF!

Thanks to everyone who has supported me so far! I really do appreciate it!

Robyn!

WOW, remind me not to miss a day or two here lol. It took a while to catch up. I've been busy busy at work and just couldn't get here.

Mcboo, I bought the college inn broth and it has really, really helped. Unlike some, I have found my self quite hungry throughout the day. But the broth definitely helped!

Jane, I just called this morning because I thought I would get another B-12 shot and your are right, it comes with the $70 per week. That first day there seemed to be so much happening I guess that part went over my head.

I am in ketosis today, pretty dark too. I guess that is normal. I haven't had headaches too badly although I have cut back my caffeine quite a bit, from 3 glasses of iced tea to one in the morning. I didn't sleep well the first cpl of nights but slept like a baby last night, I was really tired.

I was told to stay between 500 and 600 calories per day and I have hit 600 everyday so far but maybe today will be different. I am walking 30 to 45 minutes every afternoon after work (got drenched yesterday lol, storm came out of nowhere).

I made the egg cups from the recipe board this morning w/the egg whites and JD turkey sausage & laughing cow, they were great!

Congrats to all who had such great losses last month!!

take care,
Cheryl

Robyn, those are WONDERFUL accomplishments!
I can't wait until I have some major accomplishments to let everyone know about too!

Starting day 3 today! Woo hoo! I woke up this morning feeling normal! YAY! Tuesday I felt kind of dizzy, Wednesday I woke up with a headache that lasted most of the day and then when it went away I just felt kind of weak, but today feels like it might be a good day! My stomach hasn't felt hungry though!

Reposting from end of September thread -
OK - some interesting info if you are interested...
part of my birthday was having an appointment with an exercise physiologist and a nutritionist...

I had lots of tests done - and while I was at it I asked him about the Tanita scales that our clinics use. This is what he said:
Tanita stand on scales (as opposed to the ones you put in your hands) only send the electrical current up as far as the waist. Guys generally like this because they often carry their weight in their belly - so the stand on scales give them a lower fat percentage than what they really are. Women who carry their weight in their belly also will read a lower fat percentage.
However, pear shapes like me will actually often have a lower overall fat percentage than the reading that the Tanita gives because the electrical current gets bogged down in our luscious thighs... : ).

The number that you really want to look at is not the BMI - but your overall fat percentage, and although it is often not incredibly accurate on the Tanita because of its limitations, what you can do is try and weigh in at the same time every week because you can monitor your loss by being consistent. Make sense? The goal for fat percentage is what my clinic has on the little print out we get - for me he suggested 23% body fat (so I need to lose 7 more lbs of fat - which feels right to me). The interesting thing about this is that my clinic scale actually had me at 6% more body fat than the reading from today - because I carry my fat lower in my body...

When I asked him about why my fat percentages were up on some occasions - he said that it ALL has to do with hydration... fat does not conduct the electricity but water does and there is a lot of water in muscle tissue (protein). So his advice there is whatever you do - again, do it the same each time so you get a consistent read out. If you drink a gallon of water every morning - do it before you weigh, as well. That way you can monitor your loses more effectively. As far as the theory that our fat cells fill up with water - nope - can't happen.

It was really a great experience and I asked a lot of questions -if you are interested -let me know and I can share more specifics...sorry so long!

Happy October to everyone!

Cheryl and Shanlock - Hang in there. The week will be over before you know it. Cheryl, dark ketosis is a sign of dehydration. Try to drink more water.

Natalie - Congrats on the loss. When people lose big that first week, a good part of it is usually water. That is what your body wants to give up first. The fact that your loss was all fat is great. Keep up the good work, you are doing great!

Macauley - What a great birthday gift for you. It really shows that you are putting your health first. Thanks for sharing all the great information. I guess I fall into the pear shape catagory too, but since this WOE my pear has shriveled more into an athletic shape.

Thank You Kate and Susie!

Cheryl- If you are drinking the amounts of water you are suppose to and after a week or so you are still in dark ketosis your clinic might bump up your carb allowance. We had to bump mine up to 40-50 a day just to keep me in moderate rather than large. Everyone's system is different and some people need even more water and carbs. I drink at least 160 oz of water a day.

My weigh in is tomorrow I am excited to go as I weaned myself off the AS this week. And surprisingly it was super easy. I just felt like I didn't need it any more. I have been feeling a little hungry in the afternoons so I have a skim string cheese that seems to do the trick for now.

I hope everyone has a TERRIFIC October!

For September I lost a total of 10.8 lbs!

HI all!

I have my first weigh-in today so wish me lots of loss! I don't feel like I have, but who knows. It's really only been 5 days, but this is the only day I could weigh in this week. Just one day of munchies that snuck up on me, but drank some more water and got past it. Spent time on the treadmill last night and about 20 min. this morning, so at least I'm excercising. For me, that's going to be the hardest part...it always has been. My fibro. just makes everything I try hurt

Will let you know how I do today.

Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Weighed in this morning and I lost 4.8 lbs this week. AND...in 13 weeks, I've reached my goal...I realize I technically have 2 pounds left (I already had breakfast, lunch and water before WI). They gave me the option to start Maintenance today or wait til my next appt on the 12th. Since I'm travelling next week, 6 cities in 5 days, I've opted to stay on the plan...it requires little thought right now so I'll do my labs and pic next visit and get all the maintenance info!! This ABSOLUTELY is the one that works!! El

Today was my worst weigh-in since starting Medi I lost only .2 pounds. I am trying not to get discouraged. I don't understand why I didn't lose a more significant amount. To me, .2 pounds is nothing.. I could go to the bathroom and lose that much in water weight!

BUT, after my weigh-in I had a visit with my PCP scheduled to go over recent bloodwork and she was SO encouraging! In this spirit of Robyn's post, I am going to list all the wonderful things she said to me...

~my cholesterol is down overall (not high before, but down nonetheless)
~my HDL is up and my LDL is down
~my Triglycerides have ALWAYS been high and they were down over 200 points since my last bloodwork 12 weeks ago!! Now within 5 points of normal!
~Dr said I look like a whole new person every time I come in
~According to her, I am no longer insulin-resistant (part of my PCOS)
~another 10 pounds and she is advising I stop taking meds for insulin resistance

Even though my weigh-in was discouraging, the overall health benefits are undeniable.

I don't know what the problem was, but I am going to take this week to refocus. DH suggested that we add in a family walk in the evenings since we're having slightly cooler weather now (yay for him too!). I have not deviated from the plan but I am going totally back to the "basics" this week, re-measuring everything, cutting back on sodium. I am so close to ONEderland... can't let a slow week get me down.

hey mommy... stick with it - we all have those very small losses at some point or another! Look at how far you have come! You are doing great - and I am sure you will continue to do so. You have been a great supporter of the 'losers' on this thread - think of what you would say to someone else - and remind yourself how great you are doing!

Weighed in tonight: down 5 lbs. in 6 days, but added 1.5 lbs. water. They weren't concerned with this as last time I weighed in a.m., this time in p.m. Dr. wants me starting met. and spirolactone (sp?) tomorrow. Have to have a "personal" visit with the Dr. next week because UA came back with abnormal non-renal epithelial cells. Had my first veggies tonight...broccoli *yucky*!. Normally, it's my least favorite vegetable, but tonight it tasted AWESOME!!! Probably because it wasn't meat

Have a good weekend all!
