That's awesome Cheryl! I almost made it to 9 lbs yesterday (8.6). I too am curious about how much I will lose next week...

Great results! I too was told it would slow down but I have been steadily losing 4 lbs a week, which should slow at some point. I too looked so forward to a salad myself when I could eat veggies again. I just make sure I write everything down and I personally only eat 1 fruit a week so I will not have to worry about the sugars in them. But I do get my veggies daily.

I have a question about the Omega 3's. I have searched on the internet and found that flax seed oil is in the same category. I cannot take fish oil due to burping up the fishy taste and it makes me nauseous. Anyone take flax seed oil instead? I am beginning to shed more hair than usual and want to get started on these ASAP! Thanks for any input.

I am not sure about the flax seed oil but I was having the same problems with the Omega 3's and someone told me to freeze them. That is what I do now and have not had a problem at all! And yes if I miss one day I end up losing more hair than usual.

Wow! I would have never thought to freeze them! Are the ones you freeze soft gels?

Candy, I think I'd first try to salvage your current supply by the freezing technique that Kate recommended. Then for the future, you may want to either switch brands or product.
My man had the same issue as you with Omega-3 fish oil. I found him some Cooper Complete Advanced Omega-3. It says "Burp Free" on it and he tells me that it is indeed odor and burp free. He's been happily taking it for over a year now. Got that at Whole Foods.
I myself take a balanced Omega 3-6-9 that contains flax seed oil, evening primrose oil, canola oil, black currant oil & pumpkin seed oil. No problem with odor or flavor backlash with this product either. I likewise got it at Whole Foods, but as you know, they can be found all over the place.
Finally, even though I have taken Omega-3 oils for many years, I had to start supplementing further on this diet due to horrible weakening and breakage of my fingernails. If this starts happening to you, don't wait as long as I did to add biotin. I added biotin recently and what is growing out now appears to be stronger, although my nails are growing just past their quicks at this point, so not a lot of length for reliable testimony as to supplement effectiveness yet. It's been an ugly painful lesson for someone who does not want to deal with artificial nails (BTDT!).

Cheryl- Thats's great!!! Yes, you will slow down at this point. I had been consistently losing 2-4lbs until last week when I seem to have hit a stall. The first 70 pounds came off easily, now I feel stuck. 1-4 pounds a week is pretty healthy. You'll be surprised how "normal" you feel soon!

Another question for the "old timers"... have you ever gone back to week 1? I feel like I'm just in a stall for some reason. Not off plan or anything at all, but just not losing much. If I have another poor weigh in on Thursday, I'm wondering if doing a week 1 week would help me break out of it. I feel like my body is resisting going under 200!

I think it is normal to have less weight loss in second week since we are adding carbs. I lost 6.5 LB first week and 4.5 LB on second week. I just started my 3rd week and i'm interested to see what happens now.

Hey Jessica

Funny, not in a hahaha way, that you are experiencing a slow down at 70 pounds as well. I don't have a solution for you either. I am still fighting it a lot. I kind of feel like it has something to do with losing so much in so little of time and our bodies just need time to catch up so to speak. But then you look at Justin and Jerry and they are still losing like crazy.

I have done several things:
1. Changed my work out a lot (I am doing Jillian Micheals 30 minute Shed and Boost Metabolism work outs every other day).
2. Still walking 30 to 45 minutes 5 days a week
3. 50 sit ups every other day (which I know you can't do)
4. Increased my calories to 700 protein and then 2 servings of veggies
5. Of course the supplements (vitamins, B-complex drops, Fat Burner and Colace)
6. Juice of 1 lemon every day (diuretic)
7. And over a gallon of water everyday
8. No artificial sweetners and no dairy

AND I am still having very slow weight loss. I went back to week 1 and it didn't help me but I am not saying you shouldn't try it.

I have read where your body really figures out what is going on and will get resistant. So changing what you are eating, when you are eating it and even changing the time of day you are doing exercise can help. This is the process I am in right now! I know I sound desperate, but I kind of am, I still want to lose another 50 pounds at least. I am by no means done.

So hang in there girl, we will fight this together. I am not going to give up and I know you won't either.

BTW, I am loving the new me strength and flexiblity wise from the Jillian Michaels work outs. They kick your butt and then some but they are awesome. If you have FIOS, they are free on VOD, do a search on Jillian Michaels and then bookmark all the workouts, I think there are 5 or 6 of them. I have only been doing 2 of them so far.

Take care!!!!

Some may not agree with this, but if you are really plateauing then you may consider "cheating" and then reapplying the week 1 diet...refocus yourself on journaling and getting your daily water in.

Robyn- Ooh, thanks for the Jillian Michaels tip! I did not know that... we have FIOS so I will definitely be looking that up. I'm looking over what you listed and thinking hard about what I need to do. I technically have another 30 pounds but I think I'll end up wanting to go further than that and probably another 50. For now, I just want to get below 200! That will be such a milestone for me.

ETA: Found it! Also found a bunch of yoga ones!! Woohoo! I never knew we had all this cool stuff in there for free already!

Justin- I don't think I trust myself to do that, honestly. On some level, I can understand that it would sort of "shock" the body and then reintroduce ketosis but I'm not ready to think about adding carbs back in.

First Week Done -13 Pounds

Needless to say I'm thrilled!!! I just went back for my first weigh in and was down 13 pounds..

I got all the info for continuing on... got the results from my bloodwork which seemed to be okay.. blood pressure was back in normal range (it was pretty high the night I did my consult)..

Now I have to get my head wrapped around all the new stuff with eating, adding fruits and veggies, counting carbs and fats..

I'm loving it!!!

Thanks for the info Jane! I will certainly try to freeze the ones I have on hand. I also bought some flax seed oil soft gels too. My clinic says I can take them if I do not tolerate the fish oil, since they are both great sources of Omega 3's.

OK!!!! I'm SOOOOOOOO EXCITED!

I just got back from my initial appointment (hip is stinging a little, but I'll survive). It was great - definitely information overload, but the people are super friendly and SO encouraging. Almost everyone in the office is or has been on the program so that helps!

Here are my starting stats:
Body Type: Standard
Gender: Female (true)
Age: 32
Height: 5' 9.5" (I usually fudge it to 5' 10" but I was scared she would measure me LOL)
Weight: 266.0 (DANG IT!)
BMI: 38.7 (no clue what this means, I'll have to google it)
BMR: 8327 kJ
1990kcal (???)
Impedance: 428 (is that an Omega symbol???)
Fat %: 48.9% (HOLY #*%@%&@*^)
Fat Mass: 130.0 lb (this can NOT mean that I have 130 pounds of fat. )
FFM: 136.0 lb (again ??)
TBW: 99.6 lb

Desirable Range
Fat %: 21-33%
Fat Mass: 36. 2-67.0 lb (no clue)

Ok, so what does all of that mean??? LOL

And can I just say that I am SOOOO PUMPED UP! I'm excited and READY to start this program tomorrow!

Jennifer... I asked some questions about those numbers today myself because I was confused..

Here's what I know now...

The Fat Mass and the FFM (Fat Free Mass) add together for your full body weight.. The TBW is your water weight.. They told me that the scales can't really differentiate between your fat and water... so for me at least they looked at how much of my weight loss is water weight...

The kcal is how many calories you have to intake to maintain your current weight... for me the doc used that number to determine how many protein calories I need to eat (half the number plus a little is what he said)...

Hope that helps a little... I'm just a week ahead of you and we have very similar numbers... I'm only 5' 6.5" though.. Good luck on your first week.. I'm so glad I started this!!

Hi Everyone! I am super excited about today's weigh in. In 11 weeks, Medi has totally 100% changed my life! I have reached the pinnacle, the "peak" of my weight loss efforts and crossed over the 50 pound mark (I lost 4.6 exactly and entered the 220's!)....

100 pounds to lose was so daunting. Looking back, I feel so proud of myself!Honestly, early on I didn't give myself enough credit and did not believe in myself the way I do now....The ladies at the clinic really stressed that they did nothing to get me here...that I did all the work. I can appreciate that...it is true, no one held the fork to my mouth or made me put on the running shoes, but I still thank them so much! I have devoted myself to "myself", but I couldn't have done this without the Medi plan.

Thanks for sharing this journey with me! I am super motivated to keep weighing my food, waking at 4:30am to work out, wearing my pedometer, and writing down every thing that enters my mouth on the $6 Medi journal . (I don't know why I can't bring myself to part from it, so I still use it!) I am not weighing next week due to vacation, but you will still see me around posting (when I am not sunning on the beach!)

To all the new folks, there are no secrets! You do not need a "good luck". You can definitely do this and far exceed your expectations if you do not deviate from the Medi guidelines! So proud of you for taking care of YOU! We believe in you. Believe in yourself!

Hey Jennifer! Which clinic in Charlotte did you go to? I go to the Ballentyne clinic. There is a table in the back of your journal that they should have gave you that explains all that stuff, which I found VERY informative!

I am so excited. I had my weigh in today. In 3 weeks, I've lost 15.4 lbs. Not too shabby! I actually had to buy new pants because I went down a size and the new ones are a little loose, too. Might be some truth to the "10lbs=1 size" theory.

Anyway, I put my progress in my signature and I hate the way the losses get smaller! I wish it was possible to lose 4 or 5 lbs EVERY week. I know that everyone varies so much and that a lot depends on your starting weight and how much you have to lose. But, really, with the super low calories, I am surprised that the weight doesn't come off even faster. Well, I didn't put it on that fast either.

Melissa, I'm just seeing this, i'm SO PROUD OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beautifully states, as always, I love your energy and positivity!! nicely done, and enjoy your down time, it is well deserved!! MUAH!!

Congrats to all the losers this week. Its been 2 weeks for me due to being sick and weighed yesterday only down 2 pounds, but thats 30 total so far, not so bad. I have had enough of nyquil, dayquil and sugar free cough drops, my cough is gone, still feel a little week, but managed to walk last 2 days. Do any of you think over the counter drugs will effect weight loss. I did stay on the eating plan, infact a few days probably ate less, but only walked 3 days a week last 2 weeks. I went and got the flu shot today, don't want to go thru that again. I know alot of us don't count fat grams, but I have been using olive oil for my salads, either 1/2 a tablespoon or a full one, and try to watch my fats amounts rest of the day, I do not use olive oil daily maybe 3 times a week. I am not a big vinegar fan, so if there is any other tricks to eating a salad more I am sooo open to them. Have a great week everyone. mary

Hey! I go to Ballantyne too! They are so sweet and I look forward to getting to know them all very well!

They started me at 700-800 calories, so I'm planning my shopping list right now. I'm going to pick up a new blender AND a pedometer at Target tonight so I can start this part off right!

Thanks to ALL of you LOSERS - you are SO inspirational!!!

QUESTION: Can I eat the Medi-Gummies in the snack thread during week 1? I think those would REALLY help me out when I get the munchies at work!

Welcome to all the newbies! It is absolutely awesome to see everyone so inspired by such a wonderful program.

I went to my week 5 weigh in and I lost another 2.1 pounds. Total of 21.60 so far that are gone forever. I am disappointed in my small loss this week, but only have myself to blame. We went to have dinner at my step brothers to see my step sis who was in town and since they are Itallian was handed a glass of wine which I did partake in. I did forgo the homemade spaghetti opting for 1/2 of a pc of sausage, 1 meatball, a SLIVER of baked eggplant parmesean and a small helping of salad since it was drenched in Itallian. While I am not happy with myself for slipping up some, I am happy that I was able to get right back on track the following day and not let it derail me like it has done so many times in the past. It didn't kick me out of Ketosis so that is a plus, but for sure a lesson learned.

I am determined to make this week a big loss week. I seem to go one week big, one week little, here is hoping that I can shake things up and get back in the groove.

PS- I made the Oopsie Rolls for the first time and man oh man I can't believe in all the years I have ever done low carbing that I didn't make these. They are fantastic! A much needed change in the whole menu planning scheme of things.

Take care all and keep plugging along!

Cool! I hope to see ya there sometime! I go for my weekly visits on Fridays, and usually on Tuesdays for my 2nd injections.
