MBP -yes -rapid weight loss can make you lose hair and have brittle nails - make sure you take Omega 3's - if they make you feel 'fish burpy' - throw them in the freezer - then they get far enough into your system before they unthaw.
Now that I am losing slower I don't have the problem anymore.

I have been taking 3 Omega Oils a day have not had any problems with the hair or nails.

More interesting news...sorry...I feel guilty about always putting this stuff up here...me..me..me...I just wanted to let yall know of some things that came up today!

Things are happening quickly! I may be in an upcoming issue of People magazine! They (People Magazine) sent a request to TOPS Corp for people who have lost half their starting weight and mine was one of them they sent. I'm not quite half way (needed to have a ...loss of 244.5 pounds and I have lost 215 but 203 of that is since January 6th of this year). So they may, or may not use it. KSN will be following me Thursday night at Genesis taking footage of me doing the 730pm spin class and other things around the gym. They are going to produce a half hour show showing my weight loss story to be shown on Cox Cable 22 next week! A producer at KSN also sent my story to the Today Show. Crazy Cool!

Thanks so much for everyone's advice on facing a diet with a spouse who doesn't need it. Losing weight is a huge struggle for me and its just nothing for him and I don't know if he fully understands how important it is that I really stick to this plan. It comes so easy to him to stay thin that he cannot comprehend what an uphill battle I am always facing!

The meal situation seems so frustrating to me for some reason. I know that he genuinely loves for me to cook (and I appreciate that he doesn't cook, for both of our sakes). I feel selfish when i am so focused on what I am eating and not on preparing something that he would enjoy. As silly as it sounds, my biggest fear is that he will eat exactly what I eat and shed lots of weight...and there I will be, still struggling through and STILL the chubby spouse.

Am I just being crazy here????

Thanks for the update. Hope the interview went well! Now its time to get back on track! I know life can get hectic sometimes but use this week to get back in the swing of things. Start journaling on the dailyplate and space out your water so you are sure to get it all in. YOU can do this!

Hi all!

I can't wait to get home every night and read about everyone's progress...it truly inspires me to keep going. I weighed tonight and after 18 days, here's where I'm at:
13.9 lbs. gone forever
17.2 lbs. of fat (nurse told me the difference is water)
4.0% drop in fat mass
2.4 drop in BMI

They are a little concerned about the water issue, but the nurse told me maybe I was drinking too much (who knew there was such a thing!) and I can back off this week.
They cut my AS by half...only 1/2 of a tablet a day now. Two weeks ago, the dr. added spirolactone (sp?) and metformin, which I have been on before. Assuming I keep doing well, they will probably up my met in a couple of weeks. Only 11 lbs. to go till my first 10% gone!

Anyway, that's where I am today. Thank you all for helping me get here with your inspiring posts and helpful replies. Have a great rest of the week eveyrone!

Jerry,

You make it all about you, you, you, because the reason you got heavy was because you made it about every one else. Basque in the glory because you so deserve it and we are so proud of you. Please post links so that we can follow the story. You are our Medi King and representative.

Lost another 2.1 pounds this week for a total of 25 in 9 weeks. I want to be one of my clinic's 100 pound losers. For the first time, I beleive I can get there!

I lost 7 pounds in the first week. NOT what I was hoping for. It's great, don't get me wrong, but I was hoping to be like 50 pounds lighter LOL. But I'm understanding that this is a process.

After my visit yesterday, I felt SO BUMMED OUT! It wasn't the weight, it was all of the advice my trainer gave me. He is super cool and I enjoy meeting with him. He seems to be REALLY rooting for me and he gave me some REALLY good advice. He looked over what I ate last week and fussed me out! He really let me have it about changing the times I eat and how I spread my food out. I didn't eat badly, but I'm not usually hungry until around 11 or 12, then I'll eat again around 3 or 4 then I eat dinner between 7 and 8. I don't usually go to bed until well after midnight, and he told me the hell I'm putting my body through. He is 100% right, and he was so encouraging about how I will see better results if I change these things, but I just felt so saddened.

(Cue pity party music here) I am having a REALLY hard time shaking off this feeling like I've got to not only change what I eat and start exercising, but I have to change EVERYTHING about my life - my schedule, my eating habits, and all that. I keep telling myself that this is a new way of LIFE and I should embrace it, but today I'm struggling to do that. I know that if I do the things I've always done, I'll have the same results I've always had. I know this and I do want to change - I guess I'm just feeling a little overwhelmed with it.

He told me to start in babysteps so this week, I need to be in bed before midnight and NO FOOD after 8pm. I also have to eat breakfast within an hour of waking up - and he said Jello doesn't count He also said sunflower seeds and a pickle do not count as a meal (who knew?). I've never been a big meal person - I like to eat little snacks.

BUT - THAT IS ALL CHANGING! I CAN DO THIS AND I WILL DO THIS!

The best thing I can say right now is that I don't want to give up! I'm not giving up at all, and I'm determined to keep pushing no matter how hard it is!
WTG girl! Take that loss and run with it!!! You will learn each week new things that will help ya along the way. (I know I sure do!) I go for my 5th WI on Friday- I ALWAYS go on Fridays. Hopefully I'll get to meet ya there soon. Keep up the good work!

I thought I recognized you from your avatar pic this morning when I came in. Before I finished rescheduling with the receptionist, you were already called in so I didn't get a chance to say 'hi'. It was the busiest I've seen the office (from being closed yesterday I guess).

Enjoy your cruise next week!

Please check out the recipes. There are some awesome recipes that you can prepare that noone feels like they are suffering. Please keep an open mind and don't create defeat before it happens. So far my family of 3, 6 foot+ sons and husband (who is 6'3") have loved all the things I have made and they have all been Medi friendly. If I can keep my gentle giants happy so can you. No more excuses!

I weigh in on Thursday - will let you know how it goes.

Well, I've been rollerblading for a couple of months along side my husband who was training for his first 10k run out at Disney (he was challenged by a co-worker and his competitive side just couldn't resist). Anyway, I guess I built up stamina with the roller blading which really gets your heart rate up- as much as jogging. So when it was just too hot one day, I went to the gym with him and ran 2 miles straight on the treadmill with no problems!!

After seeing him run the race and all the people who were doing it too, it inspired me. I thought- "if that person can do that, so can I!!" I know I can definitely do a 5k (3.1 miles), even though I'm still dealing with shin splints Gotta figure out how to stretch so that doesn't happen, or maybe it will get better with time.

I'm looking forward to hearing your stats on Thursday!! Go GIRL!

Jerry that is so awesome! I hope you will be able to send us the link to watch your segment. We are all very proud of you!

MBP - I experienced hair loss, brittle nails, dizziness and just a general feeling of not feeling good at 70 pounds after 6 months of being on the diet. I have been taking a fish oil supplement, so the clinic upped my calories to 800 protein and then 2 servings of veggies. I don't eat fruit hardly ever but could if I wanted to as a part of one of my veggie servings. This helped with my hair and nail issues. The dizziness is still a problem but it is because of low blood pressure. I do feel good again also.

Everyone else you are doing great. Keep it up and look to Jerry as your inspiration. He truly knows where he is going right now!

Well I had another no loss weigh in. It is now 3 in a row. Offically stalled. The clinic has suggested that I go into a maintenance mode for a month to reset myself. I am considering it because frankly I am quite upset with myself right now. I took a print out of my daily plate for them to look at and nothing jumped out at them as far as mistakes I would be making in my food choices. My options at this point are quit or maintenance. I don't like either choice but what I am doing now is not working either.

My dad always said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. I think his saying applies here for me.

So sorry for the downer post.

Best wishes to everyone else, keep up the good work, you are all doing fantastic.

Sorry to hear this. Could the clinic not help pin down something that might be the cause? Do you exercise? If so, then maybe you need a change in what it is you do for exercise. You have really done so well with your loss so far, I wish there was something I could do to help you.

No the clinic is at a loss as well... And yes I exercise a lot. I walk 3 miles in 45 minutes 5 days a week with 50 sit ups and I added last week the Jillian Michaels Shred 5 days a week as well. I take 1 day off a week. So excercise is not an issue and I have changed it up as well. I have an appointment to have thyroid tests done in 10 days, I suspect I have issues there. Just very frustrating.

That is frustrating and I am sorry! I am glad you are posting and sharing with us so we can offer support! We certainly all want you to succeed! Going into Maintenance for a while may be a good thing. That way once you go back into the acute phase you body may get a nice jump start! Hope the appt at the dr for the thyroid check goes well and you get some answers soon!
Take care

Robyn,

I can only imagine how frustrating this must be! The only advice I have is to remove yourself from the situation for a moment (I know, sounds impossible) and just look at how far you have come! 80 lbs in INCREDIBLE! Maybe heading into maintenance and then switching back to acute will be just the jumpstart that your body needs.

Soon enough all of your hard work will pay off! I will NEVER complain about a 2 lb weightloss- as I realize now how frustrating it must be that you are working so hard and are not seeing the weight come off.

On the positive side of things, you are working out- building muscle and eating right! All of which can only help you in the long run : ) Keep your chin up! We are all here for support!

I just completed week 2 and had my weigh-in. I lost 6 lbs this week. So I am happy. My two week weight loss is 18 lbs. 62 more pounds to go. Hope I can stick to it, because it certainly is tough!

Yesterday was my weigh in and I was down another 5.1 pounds I wasn't expecting that so it was certainly a nice surprise. I am now down a total of 14.1 in two weeks, I'm very, very happy about that. My goal for this week is at least 2 lbs. I know the big losses can't continue, I must have really been eating badly before.

Congrats to all on their losses this week, this is a busy thread and it seems when I get a chance to pop in a lot has happened!

Ree, I am now trying to remember who was at the office when I was there yesterday (and yes it was very busy). If you saw someone in BCA month scrubs and a couple of pink extensions in her hair, then that was me lol. A salon in the area was doing that for donations for BCA and I just couldn't resist lol.

Congrats Cheryl! That is great!!!

Nick80 - congrats on the weight loss! You can stick to this! But please rememebr this needs to become your WOE & WOL! If it doesn't the weight comes back on...that is why following through on Mainenance is so important and I feel what sets Medi apart. Keep up the good work!

Robyn,

I am so sorry that you are having such a tough time right now. Can I just take a moment to tell you THANK YOU SO MUCH for the incredible inspiration you've been? Your pictures are some of the ones that flash in my brain when I get discouraged - you've lost 80 pounds and as frustrated as you may feel now, I WANT TO BE LIKE YOU! I have read and appreciated so many of your posts and recipes and I would hate to see you quit. I'm going to keep you in my thoughts and prayers for the next few weeks. I know you are in good hands with your doctors and hopefully there will be an easy solution soon. Please don't give up, I think you are FABULOUS - so encouraging, so supportive, so STRONG, and so completely awesome! You've got this, girl!!! I'm convinced that a great solution is coming your way very soon! Until then, I'm here behind you - cheering you on, and I know I'm in good company - your cheering section is HUGE here!
