Are you using the SUGAR-FREE Creamer that the clinic reccommends?

Fours days in on restart

Okay, you ladies will understand this one. I don't have a scale right now to use so I am judging by my clothing. I had been pushing size 14 again, well since restart this past Sunday, I got up this morning and put on my size 10, yep size 10 jeans and they were loose.

This is really motivating me to stay focused and meet my goal. My 20th wedding anniversary is the 30th of this month and it would be so great to be able to fit into my wedding dress.

I hope everyone has a GREAT day. Thanks for being such a WONDERFUL support group.

Frustrating morning! First in Central time not my usual Eastern so I have to wait til 7:30 ET for the hotel to begin breakfast. Are you kidding me...fruit, sugar loaded yogurt, breads, bagels...even the coffee has non medi creamer. Ugh. I set out to find a Starbucks-not to happen. And yes I have a bar but I'm saving it for the airport later when I really can't go elsewhere. Wound up at Kroger, low carb yogurt and picked up a huge container of SF creamer. Then McD's for BIG coffee and a sausage burrito. Ate the inside of the burrito and now enjoying the BIGGEST cup of coffee 4 hours later than usual. OK...this particular hotel chain is off my list of acceptable medi breakfasts-it's a Hyatt Place.

Now that I've vented, just want to say--yippee I'm .6 away from a 30 lb loss and 10 lbs to goal. While the camera showed the weight loss, today, I could really see it...hey I didn't see myself as fat either so it takes time to catch up with reality.

Everyone had such HUGE weight losses for August. Congrats around. I love reading about everyone's successes. Have a wild Wednesday. El

Please done be disappointed. 4.5 pounds to lose in a week is a great number! I still drink coffee with creamer but I use the Sugar-free Coffeemate (I did not like the Sugar-free International Delights). Regardless, please be sure it is the Sugarfree kind. And of course, journal and drink your water!

Mc Donald's

I just checked McD's website for nutritional info and it's awesome. Click on the food you want and it breaks it down by each componenet in the item. Like the burrito was separated by tortilla, egg mix, cheese, etc. Some of you probably already know this but it's a great on the go help for me. It's one of the most complete nutritional statements I've seen from any restaurant!

Alternative for the Coffee Creamer

I am a sporadic coffee drinker but I actually use the vanilla EAS protein shakes (advantedge carb control) as creamer. They are 5 calories/tbsp. which is a little less then the s/f creamer that the clinic lists. It's pretty tasty too!

Also- my clinic mentioned that some people use the medi mix/whey protein as creamer.

fit2b50- I have always loved that Mcdonald's feature too! There is a sandwich shop near me called Jimmy John's that has the same thing.

Your post reminded me of an ad I saw for Hardee's a couple of days ago... Apparantly you can order any of thier burgers/sandwichs as a lettuce wrap- which is good to know for on-the-go eating.

McBOO or SUSIE and everyone else too- What would you guys think about adding a thread to the recipe section for 'dining out on Medi' where we could chime in on Medi-Friendly meal choices we've found or suggestions on how to tailor common restuarant dishes, etc... ????

Thanks for the welcome everyone

Day 3 and my headache seems to have subsided. Yeah! Ketostix are showing I am in offical ketosis so I must be doing something right. Thanks to the those that offered up some advise. It helped.

If I have some recipes that I think are Medi Friendly but want to have them checked first by the experts would it be ok to post them in here for review then transfer to the recipe forum if they are OK?

Only 2 lbs this week for me, I had some back issues and I honestly did not work out as much as I have been, also some issues with constipation, most likely from the pain meds, so I am stepping up my walking and taking Miralax for a couple of days.

So total weight loss for August was 11 lbs, since this last two was Sept 1st I will use it then!

My biggest concern is our cruise coming up on Sept 21st and I am really working on how can I stay on program during that? I know I can get meds for the week I am gone, but a cruise ship has a lot of food choices,I just have to make the right ones and make sure to exercise every day.

~Heidi~Just thought I would let you and everyone know, we DO have a thread that will serve this purpose already.

Here it is:

Medi-Friendly Dining Out

I will ask the moderators if they can sticky the thread to keep it closer to the top.

Hope this helps!

Daboysmomi3,

I have 3 boys too, I guess that makes us queen of our castle. Mine are probably much older than your boys. I like your screen name, but would you mind giving us your first name so that we can address you by name when we respond to your posts?

I am so glad you are surviving week 1. It is the toughest, but you will be aptly rewarded when you weigh in.

I think it would be fine for you to post your recipes here for review before posting them in the recipe threads. In fact I appreciate your being careful not to corrupt the recipe threads. I love it when new posters contribute to the recipes, because everyone adds a different flare. It is so easy to get into a food rut, so having this resource opens a whole variety of food choices.

Also, if you want to comment on any of the recipes, there is a separate thread for that. We want to keep the recipes pure, like a cookbook.

1st weigh-in jitters

Tonight is my first weigh-in and I am really nervous. Although I have eaten to a tee, my clinic is only open Mon-Thurs. and I am a nurse so that limits my days even further. So here's the deal: They weighed me last thursday at about 1:30, I started the plan friday morning and it's been great. Went for MIC on monday, and only option to weigh in is today at 5:30. I guess with it being late in the day it's really only a day early but it just seems too soon.

Trying so hard not to get discouraged with the fact I will only be able to go in once a week. Most weeks will only be about 6 days long, but some may end up being more like 8. Even though the end result will be the same; it will difficult not seeing the progression like y'all
.

Don't work yourself up over this. The stress you are creating for yourself is likely to cause more harm than good. While I understand it is not the perfect scenario, it is not that big a deal. If I were you I would have a light breakfast, a very light lunch and drink up until about 2:30pm. Take a bottle of water and medi friendly snack with you to have just as soon as you have weighed in. That should minimize the effects from weighing in later in the day. My first weigh in was after only 6 days and I still lost over 10 pounds. The important thing is that you lose consistently. Whether it is 6 days or 8 days, a loss is still a loss. It will all average out.

As for not getting all the shots, you can get Nature's Bounty sublingual B-12 suppliment at Costco for around $10-$15. You just need to take 1 a day, and a bottle has 250 pills. Taken sublingually, they are suppose to absorb better into your system.

Hang in there and keep posting. There is wonderful support on this site.

Grilled Jamaican Jerk Chicken

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
1 teaspoon curry powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper (cayenne)
6 boneless skinless chicken breast halves (1 1/2 pounds)

1 Serving: Calories 145 (Calories from Fat 35 ); Total Fat 4 g

1. Heat oil in 8-inch skillet over medium heat until hot. Cook remaining ingredients except chicken in oil about 2 minutes, stirring frequently, until bell pepper is crisp-tender; cool.
2. Place chicken and bell pepper mixture in shallow glass dish; turn chicken to coat with pepper mixture. Cover and refrigerate at least 30 minutes but no longer than 3 hours, turning chicken occasionally.
3. Heat coals or gas grill for direct heat.
4. Remove chicken from marinade; discard marinade. Cover and grill chicken 4 to 6 inches from medium heat 15 to 20 minutes, turning occasionally, until juice is no longer pink when centers of thickest pieces are cut

Turkey Chorizo
(can be used in week1??? )

1.25 lb lean ground turkey
1.5 Tbsp paprika
.5 Tbsp Chile Powder
1/2 tsp coriander, ground

Mix spices and garlic in bowl. Add to ground turkey and mix to combine well. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Cook in skillet over medium heat. These look quite good, Michelle. Is it possible to get the full nutritional data for them? It makes planning so much easier when we have the whole picture.

1/4 tsp cloves, ground
1/4 tsp black pepper, ground
1/2 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp cumin, ground
4-5 cloves garlic, minced
1.5 tsp salt
1/3 cup white vinegar

Mix spices and garlic in bowl. Add to ground turkey and mix to combine well. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Cook in skillet over medium heat. There will be alot of juices at first, but cook that back into the turkey. Use with Scrambled Egg whites for a reat breakfast treat or even the kids like it as a burrito filling.
Michelle,

Both of those look fine to me. In general, any lean meat with just spices is usually fine. Olive oil is fine to use in moderation as well. Please include the carb and fiber count as well. The carbs are what we are all about here.

Typically you need to be concerned if there is breading, cornstarch, sugars, starchy vegetables, starches of most kinds, or high saturated fats.

Both recipes look great. I will have to give them a try. Thanks for contributing!

Recipe Idea

Hey Susie -

This is a recipe that I had tried and have been meaning to run past you (and the board) before posting on the recipe thread. When I did this, I forgot to measure the almonds ahead of time, but in either case I didn't use them all and a lot of them fell off.

When I talked to my clinic about it, they said it sounds like a good recipe. So if we can make it work, its a new way to get in your almonds!

Almond Crusted Chicken "Nuggets"

Ingredients:

1/4 c whole Almonds
Seasonings (I'm open to suggestions here...forgot to add any when cooking, which made it a little bland.)
1 egg white
1 boneless skinless chicken breast

Place Almonds in food processor/magic bullet/etc. and process until chopped. (You could purchase pre-chopped/slivered almonds instead for convenience.)

Transfer chopped almonds to a shallow bowl, add seasonings of your choice, and mix.

Place egg white in a separate shallow bowl.

Cut chicken breast into "nuggets" and dip into egg whites, coating both sides. Then repeat, this time dipping the chicken into your almond mixture.

Spray skillet with Olive Oil spray and place over low to med-low heat. Place nuggets in pan and cook until done!

These were very good and I even think my kids would have enjoyed them if I had thought to make enough for more than just me.

Its like a said, the recipe needs a little tweaking to get a good flavor going on, so I'm hoping someone with a good cullenary instinct might chime in here! I'm not really sure what seasonings would be good with almonds.

~Kristin~ I am not Susie but it looks like she and I are on the same page today. This looks like it would be good.....same advisory to you though. Please add full nutritional data before adding to recipe thread. Many thanks!

Alright I added them to the recipe room. Do you all have a particular recipe calorie converter that you use? I found one but not sure how reliable it is. TIA.

Thanks for the feedback Jo and Susie. This helps out my menu planning ALOT since these are recipes already in my rotation.

Hi Michelle,

I use the website, The Daily Plate on LIVESTRONG.COM - Calorie Counter, Weight Loss, Food Calorie Counter, Nutrition Facts | LIVESTRONG.COM. On the right hand side there is a link to create meals. Once you have entered all the ingredients it will calculate the nutritional information. It is also a good site for journaling.
