I weighed in yesterday after my first week on the short term maintenance, I was really nervous but I only gained .5. Not bad considering what was reintroduced. I only hope I can maintain or loose the .5. But it was reinforced to me by the clinic that I have the tools now to manage myself, and you know what, I feel really confident that I can do this and keep it off. I feel like a million bucks. And it is awesome to go the store now and have people tell you how lucky you are to be tiny, that it's easier to shop looking at little sizes. I actually bought a size 4 pair of shorts, yikes, I haven't worn a size 4 since junior high school, and that was 47 years ago,
You have worked so hard to get to maintenance that you will do just fine once you figure out a new method for including the extras.

Another 3 pounds gone for a total of 17.8 lbs in just 4 weeks (without exercise too!)
I am thrilled to finally be back under 200 and I know it will only get easier as school begins for me Aug. 31st- and I will have structured/routines back in my day. I do fear juggling 2 graduate classes on top of teaching full time and having 3 kids will get me to slip into grabbing fast bites for dinner which may not be best choices. I guess I will cross that road when I get there. For now, I am happy with my losses and look forward to moving down pant sizes. How nice it'll be to wear some of my nicer clothes again!

I think about what I am in the mood for and make a modified low carb version of it. That way I never get bored or feel deprived. It has made this WOE effortless. When on vacation I have even ordered an egg mcmuffin without the muffin.

Susie
I've done that too! - Ordered the egg McMuffin without the bread. I had the philly cheese steak last night for dinner with some oven grilled cauliflower- delicious! I've even ordered subs from Publix with the bread and just took it off when I was ready to eat it with my fork and knife. It really is cool how it tastes the same without it.

I'm a teacher too! My favorite "fast" food is getting a rotisserie chicken and an apple from the local grocery store (our store down here will cut it into 1/4 chicken which is a breast and a wing and I eat just the breast meat). I also have gotten a cheeseburger with a side of grapes once without the bun- it wasn't the best choice for the high fat content, but was still on plan. Do you have Pollo Tropical up there? It's a fast food grilled chicken place. That's another good choice.Sometimes I just bring my own lunch/dinner when I'm unsure of the choices out there when I'm running around. You just need to plan ahead a little, but it's not too difficult to accommodate yourself as long as you are prepared ahead of time. Sometimes, I also bring a medi chocolate bar for "just in case".

I don't have those stores up here. You are right, and in the previous years I do plan ahead. I always take my lunch and always have a bar/shake mix in my purse. I seem to use deli meat or canned meat (tuna, crab & salmon) as last minute meals. My fav. is fresh but frozen seafood as it takes 15 mins to cook. I keep frozen veggies on hand too. I guess I may plan meals a week ahead by day so I don't need to think when I come home. My life has never been so full of obligations so i think that is why I am getting nervous. it is those dumb grad. classes that I need to take to complete my masters for recertification! Two at a time will be hard. ANyways, you are right- planning ahead is the key!

Good Morning! I went out and got my own Tanita scales last weekend. I weighed just before my appointment Friday and they told me exactly what the clinics told me.....sweet! So this morning I stepped on them and guess what! 309! 6 pounds from 200 pounds lost since Christmas 08 and 10 pounds from the 2's! : eek:

~Jerry~Hi Jerry! Congrats on your incredible journey! You truly are my inpiration, along with McBoo and Susie and Robyn!

I cannot lay claim to 200 pounds lost, but as of Friday, I am down a total of 97 pounds, just 5 pounds from my goal. Almost at the 100 pounds lost mark.

Oh....and where did you find the Tanita scale? Does it have the same calculations as the one at the clinic? Or is it a home version. I am going to need to replace my old balance scale soon so I am actively looking.

I will be back a little later today and get all caught up. I have been lurking in the shadows for a while because I have had way too much going on around me.

Love to all,

Jo

Whew!

Finally back from vacation, and had to head straight to work for teacher insevice since school starts on Tuesday! (and I am waaay behind on preparation)

Great news! I lost 6.5 pounds on my 10 day vacation!! And here I was so worried! We were in time share condo, so I got to manage my own meals, and only ate out a few times. I know I was more active than usual and know that helped. I even went on a cavern tour! 1.2 miles up and down pathways in a cave! I was exhausted but know I left several pounds down underground!!

I am only 2# away from the 50 pound mark.... but know it is uphill when returning to school! Wish me luck becaue the scale has only budged 1/2 pound since my return to Kansas on Tuesday.

Jerry, can I ask where you got these? in Wichita? cost?

Since I live so far from our clinic and am back to work, I know I cannot come every week since they are only open 2 evenings. (Mon I have staffings almost every week after school and Thur is my daughter's volleyball games) soooo I am gonna have to plan carefully for awhile. Clinic is very understanding to this, I am the one concerned! Maybe if I got a Tanita scale I could keep better track between visits? I do not want to lose my momentum!

JO - good to hear from you - miss your wisdom! Planning anything special to acknowledge your incredible achievement?

Amy - great job on the loss over vacation! I'm at a school, too, so determined to stay on track! Seems like a lot of us are in education...

Susie - your 65 continues to be my inspiration!

Jerry -beyond hero status!

Went shopping this week-end for back to work clothes... totally could not figure out how dress my body. I used to buy a-line skirts to hide my overly luscious hips...everything felt way out of proportion. Couldn't figure out how people who were similar weight to me were wearing such low sizes - found out yesterday that I wear low sizes too! Saw a beautiful dress on the rack today - still shopping - and it was beautiful on me, too. HOW FUN!!! Going to have to watch this shopping thing!

Tried to post a photo -my file size was way too big - suggestions on how to convert?

Thanks to everyone! The posts are such an important part of this program for me.

Quick question for my restaurant gurus out there! Next Friday is Ruth's Chris steakhouse for my Dad's retirement celebration with the family. I don't like steak so that's not a problem. Do you guys think the lobster tail with butter on the side would be a good choice for me?? How about the salad and/or side choices? I'm not finding a ton of info online.

Bacon??

Hi All,

I would like to thank all of you for me having a place to go to read all of the information you have posted about the Medi plan. I am on my 3rd day into week 2. I lost 8lbs the first week and was very excited.

My question is around bacon. Is bacon an OK source of protein? I'm having a hard time with the meat portion of this diet. I do eat eggs, cottage cheese and the dannon lite and fit yogurt. I've even attempted marinading chicken, pork chops in the allowable marinades but still have problems choking it down.

I ate 3 stips of Oscar Mayer Center Cut bacon yesterday which is 60 calories. I'm looking to find out if this is ok ? I'm so so so hoping so as this would be a huge help!!!

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I don't use regular bacon, I use turkey bacon, but I think if the calories and carb counts are all accounted for in your journal go for it. Have you looked at livingstrong.com, it is free to join and there is the daily plate section where you can journal online, it tells you what the carb, calorie, etc count of almost every food imaginable. It really really helps, I would highly suggest you find a site like that because it answers a lot of questions on food counts. Do you like hamburger's? I buy the 93% and make up my 3-4 oz burgers and leave them in the freezer. Then pull one out on my George Forman grill with a veggie cheese slice. Good luck

Thanks hudiman! I will try that cheese for sure. Hope it's easy to find.

I sure do like the regular bacon instead of the turkey bacon though. I know the weightloss clinic will frown upon it, but I'm desperate for something that actually taste good and not just DRY MEAT! :-)

Thank you McBoo! I too am in SW Florida!

I'm guessing with the bacon since it's high in fat and low in protein that it's a "no no"?

Weburks- Welcome! I use the turkey bacon too, quite a bit. The other concern is the high sodium level in both turkey bacon and regular bacon. Some folks will have issues with water retention when they eat it, so if that is an issue for you, you'll have to cut way back. I personally have not had a problem with it, but lots of other folks do It's not really a "no no" but you do need to consider the overall calories and also just whether it's a healthy choice for you. HTH!

Hi all! Wow...so many pages to catch up on! Sounds like everyone is doing well! I just got back from the beach in NC and had a great time! Walked to the beach with my chair and a cooler with medi snacks at 9:30am Saturday and did not leave the beach until 6pm! Ate lots of fresh streamed shrimp - so good! My husband and I had a wonderful time and the other couples we were with were great about the diet and food choices! We went out to dinner twice and then shag danced at a place on the water! It was a so great!! I was not good with my journaling but back at it this morning!

TriMom - you are doing great! Thanks for the marindae recipe! Looks good!

Susie - How wonderful is it that you were able to lose the few pounds gained while enjoying Italy! You are a wonderful example to all of us and thanks for continuing to post your ideas and well wishes!

Kristin - Congrats on the WL! You are going to be in "one"derland so soon! Enjoy your trip this weekend! My thoughts on alcohol are similar to those of Justin's. I do still drink on this plan (in moderation and making much better choices). I drink cherry vodka, club soda with a lime wedge. 65 calories all in. I will have 1 or 2 (make sure I work out that day) and after I will just drink club soda.

Restart - Hope you are back on the Medi train! This board is so supportive and helpful!

Justin - Congrats on the great week/month! Hope your conversation with your brother is positive.

Carol - so sorry about the Dr. Like the others said I have big weeks and then smaller...it all evens out...

Sue - I love your attitude and how to talk about clean eating...I use that phrase a lot now!

Maria - awesome job on your WL!

Macauley - how were the Salsa lessons? Hope fun!

Jessica - Congrats on the WL and hope you are feeling better!

Michelle - Hope you are back in ketosis and feeling good!

Lisa - Congrats on your WL and being in the ONES! How great!!!

Jerry - nice work and wow...your stats are such an inspiration! You seriously need to be on the over of people in January 2010...the "Half their size" issue!!!

Tracy - a size 8 - how wonderful!

Hudiman - Glad you hear you are adjusting to maintenance...a size 4 - I think I was in 5th grade last time I was that size! So wonderful!

Chrislaurie - 17.8 in 4 weeks is so great...not to mention you are back in the ones! I second the rotissee chicken! very easy for an "on the go".

Jo - Hope everything is going well. I know you have a lot going on! 97 pounds...wow you will be at 100 in no time...what an inspiration you are!

Amy - congrats on the awesome WL while on vacation!

Webkurks - I eat bacon once in a blue moon...I do love it but it has a lot of sodium in it so I try and avoid it. I do really like chicken breakfast sausage and eat that fairly often. I also keep turkey burgers and cook them often with a piece of low fat colby jack...yum!

Hope you all have a great week!

Half the man I used to be?

Went through all my clothes and threw out all but one of my "big" jeans and 6x shirts. (Gotta keep em for before and after shots).

I DID IT!!!!! Sorry guys, but I've gotta pat myself on the back here....went to the party this weekend and didn't have a single drink! WOOHOOO!!! I can not believe how hard it was, though! I had even bought a flask of vodka in case I decided to do a shot. But it just makes me feel that much better about having the will power to tell myself no.

On top of that, by about 2 AM, I was STARVING. The only (and I mean ONLY) food in the house was pizza and taco bell, and I managed to stay away from that too. I'm really proud of myself and I know, being totally self-absorbed right now, but I really feel like I just climbed a mountain. I hope my results are a payoff at tomorrow's weigh in!

Kate It sounds like you had a great vacation! Thanks for the tip on the drink. Vodka is my drink of choice when I'm drinking, and so maybe when I reach the maitenance phase, if I ever want one, I will give that a try. Sounds good!!

Jo It must be amazing to say that you've almost lost 100 lbs. I'm rooting for you! Not long until you'll be there!!

Webkurks I know its not the same, but have you tried Canadian Bacon? The stuff I get is really good and has lots of flavor, even though its 97%. You might want to give it a try if you haven't already!

I know what you mean about an uphill battle upon returning to school. I am going to be at a new school this year & my principal informed me I need to bring my appetite this week b/c breakfast & lunch will be provided all week long! I'm going to be busy tonight preparing stuff to take for me to eat in my room instead! Teachers love to eat don't they!?!

Just a quick check-in.... Had my weigh-in last week in Thursday and lost 3pounds! I have had a house full of company since then and did not do as well as I hoped. Very disappointed in myself. They all left yesterday and was 100% back on plan yesterday.

Everyone is doing awsome!! and such an inspiration! Keep up the good work!

Took a little vacation and just catching up. There seem to be so many Floridians on this and only us 2 Texans - I live in Dallas and venture out to "Egypt" to the Richardson location. It's much closer than Southlake, however, as I live within near Northpark Mall. Are you in Dallas too?
