my first post

Good morning! This is my first post!

I am friends with a couple gals on here who have been an amazing support. I lost an incredible 13.4 pounds on week 1. To my surprise I stayed even weight-wise this week (and I am NOT complaining! I feel so proud of my dedication!). I think the scale is a wonderful tool because it shows that I have indeed continued to lose fat pounds. I have lost 15 pounds of fat in 2 weeks. I feel great and am really excited about my future.

I can't wait to shed some of this water I am obviously hanging onto for some reason! I exercise almost every day and my NP thinks I need to up my protein to MINIMUM of 600 on workout days. Maybe that will kick-start something. I am most definitely drinking all my water.

I look forward to getting to know you! I am not discouraged at all about my week 2 weigh in!

I hope you don't mind me asking here about the fat burners. How important do you think they are in your regimen? I have never dropped out of "high-ish" ketosis. Just curious! Thanks!

Kari - Congrats!! That is so great!

Kathy - So sorry about the cancer scare....I am sure that was stressful and I am glad things seemed to have worked out! Congrats on maintaining. That is so wonderful and I can't wait to see your before and after pics!

TriMom - Hello! So glad to see you on here! 15 pounds of fat in 2 weeks ROCKS! You should be very proud! I was in "high-ish" ketosis for the first 2 weeks. I was drinking a boat load of water and staying on plan. It eventually went to moderate. lately it has been small and the NP said that it is because of the running. She said that I am probably still in "ketosis" but the ketones are being burned differently so it won't show up in my urine....who knows! I can't imagine that I am not in ketosis so I am not worrying about it! By the way, I like your quotes in your signature!

I had my first really "rough" situation last night. We have some family in town and last night we had a sitter as everyone wanted to go out to dinner. They all wanted sushi so off we went! I was nervous but my husband was great and we ordered some Sashimi and I just did not eat the rice and stuck to the fish, crab and veggies. Overall it was actually not that bad and I did not feel deprived at all. We had an absolutely wonderful and fun time too! I did do an extra run yesterday and will be running again today!

We are off to Savannah, GA tomorrow to meet the rest of my in-laws (they live there). It is going to be rough there and I am very worried. My mother-in-law still keeps "fat back" on the back of her stove and cooks with more butter than you can imagine. I have my shakes, almonds and cheese sticks packed! She is very overweight and would always "partner" with me about being overweight...ya know. Like we had this great bond because we were both in Plus sizes...strange now that I think about it...so I am just worried and don't think she will be very receptive and accomodating about it. Who knows though...maybe I am wrong...either way...please wish me luck! Sorry for the long post...I guess I am just getting nervous!

Hi everyone, back in town again for a while - Whew this traveling is fun but tireing!

Anyway, looks like everyone is doing really well, with a few hiccups which is to be expected.

On the AS subject. I do not take them anymore. I realized I just was not hungry and did not need them. I am still losing and that is what is important to me. I DO take all the other meds - vitamin and fat burners as prescribed.

KateW - you will be fine and I bet your mother inlaw will be supportive - no one wants to be fat.

I know I haven't spoken to everyone here, there are too many posts to respond to but I will try to keep up for a few days and add my support and advice as necessary. You all are doing so wonderful that all the questions seem to be answered nicely and such.

Have a great Wednesday and keep losing!

Thanks for the warning, McBoo! Guess I'll head in the other direction! I'm hoping they have Walden Farms products!!

EL - Thanks for the input. I'm planning only doing the white meat thing for this week so I can see what the results are.

I had another concern though (sorry guys!) - I'm supposed to be adding in the fruits and veggies this week, but I'm not big on veggies (actually, I dont like anything on the list) and I'm hesitant to do the fruits (especially on a daily basis) because of the sugar content. Instead I had figured on having them 2-3 times a week. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I plan to try to force myself into eating some of the veggies with the hopes that I can stomache them long enough to eventually learn to like them, but for now I don't want to risk malnourishment. I'm hoping the vitimins they have us on are enough to supplement?

Thanks again and sorry for all the questions!

I just got back from my weigh in. I lost another 8 pounds. That brings my first month total weight loss to 28 pounds. I am thrilled

I do have a question to anyone who wants to answer. When you go to your clinic each week do you meet with the Nutritionist and or Doctor? Like I said before, this was my 4th visit there and the only time I met with either of them was my first week. Now, I dont have any questions for them, but I was just curious if this is the norm?

LOL
I was NEVER much of a veggie eater before this journey.
I have discovered (now remember I am on maintenance now) I love sweet potaotes and smashed cauliflower AND brussel sprouts!
Try something that you have always thought you didn't like - you might surprise yourself.
Try baking your brussel sprouts! drizzle w/ olive oil and some dry seasonings - I bake at 400 for about 30 mins - they come out almost burnt - they are sooooo good!

Congrats on a great first month! You are doing great! At my clinic I see just a nurse and they are always diffrent so I dont always feel comfortable telling them all my issues or concerns b/c they dont remember me from the week before.

Good advice Nikki, I find that almost every veggie can be roasted in the oven with some EVOO and seasonings and they come out awesome with a nutty favor. Remember to roast at 400 or above for about 20-25 minutes.

Jersey - Clinics vary a lot!!!!! Mine is not a great clinic at all, but Jo's on the other hand sounds awesome. Jessica and I see the nutritionalist each week but they are not veterans of the plan so don't have a lot to add for us. If you want to see a doctor though they will schedule you to see one. Sounds like you have a clinic like mine and Jessica's. But I have always found the information I needed right here on this web page, so keep checking and posting! You are doing awesome by the way. I bet you are feeling pretty good now!

You guys on Maint. are making me laugh about the cheating! What a terrible habit to have developed (kidding of course)! I am happy to hear everytime you post that you have either maintained or lost. It is so encouraging for those of us in acute phase yet! Keep pushing us!

Jo - I am missing you!!!!! Hope the job stuff is working out for you, my fingers are crossed that you get back to work very soon!

To try introducing veggies slowly, you can also add them here and there to your meat dish so you are not trying to force your self to eat a mouth full of veggies but a mixture of veggies & protein. For example, I love to add red and green peppers to the "General Tsao's Chicken-From Mediliving- Volume 3" recipe (you can find it under the dinners thread) it taste really good mixed in with the sauce!

Hi Kristin!

Don't be sorry about the questions that is what everyone is here for.

I usually only have the veggies 2-3 times a week as well and haven't had any issues arise. Check with your clinic though- b/c the multi-vitamin they switch you to after the first month's supply assumes that you are getting all the nutrition in from those veggies so they may want to keep you on the stronger vitamin when it's time for your new supply. GOOD LUCK and CONGRATS on your success so far!

Great job!
I see my Dr or PA once a week, the nurse once a week. All have been very attentive to my questions and concerns. I even got a card after my initial visit welcoming me and then last week I got an email congratulating me, so I am feeling very supported!

Watch out for tomatoes! They are really a fruit - when it was cold (jan/feb) I had chili almost every day for a week and could not for the life of me figure out why I fell out of ketosis.........

Kristin-Veggies and fruit. I eat a peach EVERY morning mixed with a half a cup of cottage cheese and a scoop of Walden Farms Raspberry Jelly that I nuke for 10 seconds to make it easier to mix. I haven't seen a negative affect from the sugar but I do walk four 15 minute miles right before breakfast.

A cup of raw veggies or a 1/2 cup of cooked is really not a lot of vegetables. Take it from a veggie lover...I'm feeling deprived! But here's my question, once you reach your goal...what are you planning on eating? You can't revert to whatever you've been eating that has put on the pounds. Vegetables really do have to become part of your diet permanently-for fiber, vitamins, to keep you full, etc. So might as well start small now and build up. Do some google searches around veggie hater recipes...seriously they are out there!

Also, Jerry Seinfeld's wife (yes the comedian) wrote a cookbook about how to hide veggies in food so kids that didn't like veggies would eat them without knowing. You might look at that as well and just hide them in your food.

Good luck and check out some of the recipes on the board. You may be surprised at what you do actually like if you try it prepared a different way.

Keep it up.....change takes time!! El

I am definately going to check out that book! I actually like a lot of veggies. My problem is that I was raised on CANNED veggies, so I don't care for much else. I know....what were my parents thinking??? And I LOVE fruits...but am just nervous that I will slow down my weight loss by eating them daily. Right now I'm walking/jogging 30 mins 3x's a week which I'm sure helps.

I bought some fresh green beans tonight and am going to try them fresh, and try them cooked in chicken brother with seasonings to see how that goes. I figured that'd be a good start.

Thanks again, everyone! I'm so glad I found this board!

My BMI just went below 25 and my fat is above 30% but you've lost the same amount of weight as I have in half the time. Maybe that's why.

My clinic suggested that I only do fruit a couple times a week because of the carb content, you get more bang for your buck with veggies. I totally agree with them. Good luck with finding the vegetables that work for your liking.

I'm actually a "veggie hater" too. I was determined to give them a try yesterday so I mixed an artichoke w/ a triangle of garlic & herb light laughing cow yesterday and it was wonderful. I was able to eat all of it. (which rarely happens) I'm going to try that on some other veggies & see if it helps me eat them.

Good luck! I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one who isn't a veggie eater. My Medi-Dr. looked at my funny the other day when I told him I wasn't a veggie fan.

Nikki- Thanks for sharing your picture!! You are an inspiration!

Kate- I finished Week 1 but I WILL be repeating it for sure!

Kristin- Do you eat salad? That's a way to get some veggies and fiber into your diet. Maybe toss a small handful of baby spinach leaves into a plain salad mix as a way to intro them

Robyn- Do you ever see Barbara at the clinic? I have seen her 3-4 times and I LOVE her. I saw her last week and today and she has so many more helpful tips than Jose or that blonde lady (whose name I still don't know).

Check out my new Avatar!!!!! I FINALLY CROSSED 50 POUNDS LOST!!! I am thrilled. I had to take my jeans off to get there though I normally wear light cotton shorts or capris but I bought some new jeans in the MINUS section and for whatever reason I put them on today. When I weighed in, I had only lost 3 pounds and I was a little ticked. The tech asked if I normally wear jeans and suggested I re-weigh without them on because they can be so heavy. She was right! My jeans weighed almost 2 pounds and without them I was down 51.4 pounds total! I figure adding in the light shorts I usually wear would put me right at 50 or so! SO thrilled.

Busy Crazy week for me! But I weighed in today. Week 5 and lost 4 pounds making my total 20!! Half-way point!

I went away last weekend with my girlfriends and all of our 12 year old daughters. Had a great time and was able to stay on plan on not tell anyone about the diet.

Everyone is doing great and love to see all the new pictures of those hitting their goals!

Thanks for letting me share.

Justin,

I would go with the Taco Salad w/flank steak. Hold the beans, sour cream and guacamole. Use Salsa instead for the dressing and of course do not eat the bowl. I have something very similar at Cantina Laredo at the Bell Tower.

Good luck.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! I'm so happy for you. Way to go!

Nope...definately not a salad eater. I didn't get to try making the green beans tonight but am going to do them tomorrow for sure. I thought about adding almond slices for some crunch. Might be good!
