I was told 500 calories of protein a day, minimum. I think if you eat the recommended protein sources and 500 calories you will get the grams you need. I know at the back of your journal are the specifics for each type of protein meal, I was just told to make sure that I get the 500 cal of protein. I was told at the week 2 when I could introduce veggies back in that I was targeting 16 grams of carbs a day.

questions and weight loss results

Hi Everyone,

I was at the doc today and lost 5 1/2 pounds more this time. I have lost 17 pounds total in 5 weeks. I have been walking on my treadmill 40 minutes at 2.5 mph, I have a very bad back so hopefully more weight gone I can go faster, 3 to 5 times a week. the only cheating I did was a mouthful of ff whipped cream, squirting kind to satisfy a sweet craving. I have been using the miracle noodles maybe 2 times a week and the last time I was gagging on them, sooo I will give them one more try and If I cannot stomach them anymore for what ever reason someone here in sw florida can have the rest of my bundle which is alot. Anyways I have a few questions. I made the oopsie rolls and they are fantastic, what is the refrig life for these? and also are they counted toward my protein calories? Has anyone been able to find almond flour here in sw florida stores, I have looked at 2 publix and 2 walmarts to no avail. I am getting bored watching tv while walking I need an ipod, which one is the best, easy to clip to clothes etc. Open to all suggestions. and hoorah for this site. Mary

Sunny- I am Rx'd 4 per day. You should definitely talk to your clinic and let them know if you're still hungry, because you can take up to 6 per day (I believe) unless you have an underlying health problem. They are happy to work with me at my clinic. I resisted taking them all but some days I do need all 4.

Week 1 Weigh In

Just got back from my 1st weigh in: Down 7 lbs---(5.8 lbs. fat) That puts me at 17 lbs. total since July 1st (if you include the weight I loss before starting Medi)

I was a little disappointed by the amount of support I received from my Dr. He basically did my vitals, weight, gave me my Rx and Week 2 info and that was it........thank goodness I have this forum for info & support.

I have to share what my 6 year old told me this a.m.----We had to rush out of the house to make it to my appt. so I stopped by Dunkin' Donuts & picked them up some Donut Holes for breakfast on the way to the dr. The boys went with me to weigh in. On our way back to the car, he said, "Mommy, I'm proud of you. You did a good job. Thank you for buying the donuts. I know it was hard since you're on a diet." It's amazing how much those little words made my day and made me want to try even harder to reach my goal.

I have a bad late night snacking problem so I take one in the AM one in the afternoon and 2 at 6PM. I have no trouble sleeping as long as I take it before 8PM. Good luck!

1st Weigh In

Back from my first weigh in...Only 4 lbs, but its a start! Was really hoping to lose more my first week, so we'll see how week two goes! Only 9 lbs until I'm under the 200 mark! WOOHOO!!!!

My councelor suggested that I only eat either Pork, Steak, etc. once a week, and stick to eating just turkey, chicken and fish for the rest of the week. Just wondering what everyone else's weekly diet looks like. I know its different for everyone, but I only had pork once and Steak once, so.....

Congrats, Carol, on your first weigh in!!

Hope everyone else has a great week!!

So I just got back from my weigh in, down 2 pounds which I am very happy with. My fat % dropped to 29.5 so they told me this would be my last week for Appetite suppressants! Even though my BMI is still over the cut off? I am still 21 pounds from my goal; I didn’t realize they would cut you off like that. I am glad to read on here that some people are still able to do it without the AS. I just know it will be really hard for me, the AS really helped.

Has this happened to anyone else that is in the 140’s or 130’s but still has losing to do? How was your success at losing without the AS?

Sunshyne,

Well, I am a volume eater and you get more bang with the lower calorie proteins like fish, chix etc. I have gotten into the habit shrimp, crab or tuna for lunch and then chix and fish filets for dinner. I have bought salmon in a pouch like tuna that is easy to put over greens for a salad. I have red meat probably only 1/ week cuz I get less! It may sound crazy, but I now I am a volume eater so I need to work it into the program.
Look on the lunch & dinner recipe links to find some good recipes to change things up a bit.

Congrats on your weight loss and good luck on week 2.

I went for my midweek shot today. They asked how I was doing and in conversation I mentioned I had not been taking my AS as recommended- only 1 per day. THey highly recommended I take all 3 per day til I get much closer to my goal to be sure I get the full benefit of the program. I thought I was doing the right thing to wean myself so early as to not be dependent on the AS. Veterans, aNy thoughts? I have lost 11.2 lbs in 2 weeks and have not been to hungry this 3rd week and thought I was doing well. I weigh in next on Friday.

Justin - Congrats on the WL! That is great!!

Carol - Congrats on the Weight loss! Good stuff! Very cute what your son said! Keep up the good work!

Sunshyn - Congrats! I have never heard of being weaned off the AS when you are still in the Acute phase...perhaps some of the veterans can chime in on that.

Hope everyone is having a good week!

We are the same height and size and my clinic has not informed me of any intentions of taking me off AS until I hit my goal. I've been on AS since June 19th.

You should listen to your clinic. If you had been taking your meds as prescribed maybe you wouldn't have cheated last week.

Your clinic will wean you off them at the appropriate time.

Totally agree with you, McBoo. The meds are a tool to help you be successful. Taking them as directed is part of the program. Just as being weaned from them at the appropriate time is part of the program.

I am glad your clinic is diffrent. My clinic said that to be persribed AS you need a BMI above 25% and fat above 30% and they are only giving me a week to "wean"... but I can start using there Stay Slim product. Have you hit those percentages yet?

I have never taken 3 a day, in fact, since 1/23/2009 (when I started) I have taken only 24 of those pills (mainly on those high stress days). There are many weeks I didn't take any, some I took one and a few where I took 2. Now I'm talking about the ap sup...I take all other suppliments religously! Now remember, I had a drive that few will be able to follow so if your Doc says to take em, take em!

Hi Mary. Not sure exactly what part of SWFL you're in, but have you tried Ada's food mart in Fort Myers? Its an all health-food store. Its off US-41 by the Burlington Coat Factory and Joann Fabrics. I haven't been myself yet, but I will probably stop by some time this week. Good luck!

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing too! I took them all today along with the fat burners etc. I guess I have never been a pill person so I naturally resist them. But, I got the message from all you successful veterans that I need to follow the plan 100% to maximize my success. After all, who am I to jump in and change the program??

So, I am back on track and will follow all of the advice I have solicited! Thanks to all of you! I appreciate your time and feedback!

Chrislaurie,

We all want you to succeed. Some of us have been on the program for a long period of time and are just trying to share what we have learned. Sometimes it may come across as being harsh but it is not intended to be that way.

My signature says it all and if you knew me a year ago you never would have heard those words come out of my mouth.

Good luck. You can do it!!

Just my opinion BUT on another diet program I've tried, they had pork, steak and burgers limited to one time per week. I've just finished up my 6th week and have lost 22 lbs. I DO stick to chicken, turkey, eggs and fish. I only have beef when I have a really low calorie day. You might want to try it for a week and see if you have a bigger drop.

Still-Great job on the 4 lbs! And from someone who just broke that 200 lb barrier...stick to it...it is SO worth it. Keep up the good work. EL

Maintaining Very Well

Hello Everyone, It has been several weeks since I have checked in. Had a cancer scare and was minutes away from having surgery when a "Specialist" stepped in. Have also had way too much STUFF going on at work and home.

I have been successfully maintaining at 142. I'm sooo glad I found Medi!!

1,600 - 1,800 calories and less than 100 grams of carbs per day seem to be working pretty well for me. I still work out like a crazy woman -- but I'm addicted to exercise now so can't imagine ever changing that.

I allow myself to "cheat" ocassionally on my favorite - movie popcorn - but then I'm right back to eating the way I should - no guilt.

I'm also learning that there are just some foods I can't eat without the cravings kicking in BIG TIME. One bite of "real" ice cream and I feel like I could eat the entire half gallon. I also noticed that it is better if I save my breads for lunch and dinner. If I eat bread in the morning, I seem to get hungry sooner.

Susie, I promise the before/after photos are coming. I stopped by my clinic a couple of weeks ago and they had "lost" my before photo. Called them a few days ago and they found it and are preparing my "book." I'll post photos as soon as I get those.

Hope everyone is doing well.

- Kathy
