I just got back from my weigh In. I lost another 5lbs this week which brings me to a total of 37lbs in 6 weeks. I can really feel a difference in my energy level, and my clothes are really loose now.

~Jerry~Weightwise, perhaps half the man you used to be,but heart wise and wisdom wise, you will always be the MWL King!

Congrats to all the weight lost in here this week, everyone. I am headed out the door to walk before it gets way too hot!

I kept one pair of slacks...the ones I wore to the Clinic on my first visit. I tried them on, zipped and buttoned them, and they fell straight to the floor, so I washed them and folded them and put them away...for the after pictures as well. The rest of the TWENTY ONE pairs of slacks are going to Buffalo Exchange. I have them all ready to go, just have not taken them over there yet. This is the week they go. A bunch of Tees and sweaters as well.

I am totally amazed that I EVER thought I was doing well as the sizes just crept up there. I started this program wearing a size 20. I now wear a size 10 in slacks/jeans and a Medium in Tshirts and sweaters. My heavens, who would have thought? At 5'11", a 10 is a happy surprise!

.....and I did NOT get here by eating bacon because "it tastes so good".

I have worked this program very aggressively, all the way. And now it is so easy, I cannot imagine any other way of eating. As those of you who know me from this forum, I will always say that this is a major lifestyle change, that you must commit to it 100% if you wish to be successful. And it is not easy to get used to, but once you make that commitment you are good to go. For me, it is, as Yoda in Star Wars says, "Do or do not, there is no try".

Off to walk!

Love to all

Jo

Ok so I'm in day 3 of week 2. Found out I should not be eating bacon. I was ate 3 slices a day the last two days. This was Oscar Meyer Center Cut bacon. I now hope this does not throw me out of Ketosis, anyone know for sure if it will?

I've been eating either Cottage Cheese for Breakfast or the Dannon Light n Fit yogurt. Lunch 3 days a week I eat scrambled eggs and the other 4 days slimey lunch me. Having trouble choking it down sometimes. My dinner are either chicken, pork chop or hamburger (all lean meat) but those too I have trouble getting down. UGH.

I was told at Medi only 1 dairy product a day so if I eat the cottage cheese or yogurt for b-fast then I can't eat a piece of cheese later. UGH!

I'm picky. I don't like any seafood and not very adventurous with other foods.

Also, as far as Ketosis - is the Lg 8.0 bad or just means need more water?

Any advice?

Day 3 and feeling great!

Hello everyone,

I am on day 3 and feeling great. Day 1 was by far the hardest on my body. I had a horrible headache, felt sick to my stomach, but I hung in there and I feel so much better. I can't wait for my appointment on Thursday to see how I have been doing. Thanks to all of you for all the great food ideas and support.

~Kate~Buffalo Exchange was a unique concept when it began and it is still pretty unusual today even with tons of consignment shops out there. There are only three locations on the East Coast...two in New York City and one in Philadelphia. They began in Tucson AZ years ago. I go to the one in Tempe AZ (about 12 miles from my home).

Here is their website:
Not the usual thrift store! Vintage clothing at Buffalo Exchange. Cash for fashion instead of consignment. Costumes.

~Mary~That is a WHOLE lot of carbs for one pattie. I am not sure how many carbs you are allowed per day, but from the beginning, I have been allowed 20 grams of carbs per day. If that is 10grams per pattie, WOW! I, personally, would stay away from those. I would research those some more and see what else is out there in the vegetarian line from which you can choose. There should be some good info in your initial packet as well.

Here is some info from Daily Plate:
Morningstar Farms Vegetarian Chicken Patty | LIVESTRONG.COM

Just based on the info above, I would say no.

And if it is the begie pattie, this is from Morningstar's site:

YEAH!! I'm down 25 lbs in just short of 8 weeks!! Finally broke down this week and started trying some of the recipes. They are wonderful so thank you ALL for contributing!

Jerry-Your numbers are AMAZING! Congrats on your tremendous progress! You look fabulous!

Jo-We are one inch apart in height. Your goal is 160 and I chose mine at 178. Just curious, did you set your goal or did the clinic? I'm thinking they'd tell me 165 and I'm not sure I'd be comfortable that low. Just curious.... Thanks. El

I felt quite rushed at my appointment on Saturday (and I guess I didn't speak up then because I was so excited about losing 9.7 pounds in 6 days!!!) but I am SOOOOOO confused and am standing here over my dinner worried about whether I can eat it or not.

I know that I am supposed to have 500 cal of protein a day, and they moved me up to 700 total calories for the day. I have mastered the amounts of protein and counted the calories in the cheese I have had as well, but I don't know where the PB, salad dressing, veggies, fruit calories... etc go??? I have included them in the 700, but what about the veggies? Do they go in the 700 as well? I believe there is no such thing as "freebie's" but iceberg lettuce is listed as such on the paperwork I received from Medi. I had a wonderfully filling salad for lunch and now I am all panicked that I was wrong about it being a freebie. If I had 2 cups of lettuce does that mean no more veggies for the day? UGH. Sorry to bombard everyone. I am so thankful for this board!

PLEASE help me understand what counts for what. I know it all counts in the end, but I am really a "direction follower" and let me just say that I will lose sleep tonight if I find out I did/do something wrong.

Weburks14 - I eat bacon now and then - I need to have some fat intake in the morning and I usually have sausage because it is easier. Unless it has tons of sugar in it (which mine didn't) it shouldn't throw you out of ketosis because fat and protein wont through you out - just too many carbs. I count it as one of my proteins - and I don't go over a total of 20 carbs a day. My doc said it was OK fore me - you might want to ask yours.

~El~ The clinic and I together set my goal. When I moved to Phoenix 15 years ago, I weighed 160. Up until this weight gain over the last 15 years, I have weighed between 155 and 160 all my adult life. I am very comfortable at that weight. It depends a lot on your build as well, and what you, personally, are comfortable with. My personal doctor agreed with the choice of 160 as well.

It is my understanding from my center that everything is counted - no freebies whatsoever. 2 cups of lettuce or salad would be the limit in our acute phase. If unsure of calories to record, you can always weigh anything on your scale and find its nutritional values at either nutritiondata.com or in the daily plate section of livestrong.com. Although the second site has many more food listings, many of the nutritional values on the site have not been verified. Nutritiondata.com utilizes figures from our government, specifically the USDA's SR-21. I find it easier to measure my food by weight than by volume because it's more specific, more absolute. For instance, other than with liquids, one may fill a cup lightly or press food down tightly in order to fit more. So, volume is not as specific as weight for non-liquid foods.

Don't beat yourself up, sometimes life gets in the way. As long as you try to stay on plan that is better than not trying. Make up for it by being super focused. You can't change the past but can work towards a better future!

Look up the recipe for oopsie rolls! The main ingredient is egg whites. They are a great take and go breakfast. you can even put some pb or spread on it to your liking. Also, i have made protein shakes into pancakes by adding enough water to make the consistency like pancake mix. I use the chocolate flavor and this is another make and take breakfast. Both can be prepared in advance too!

Grace,

I am curious as to why you are disappointed with a 3 pound loss. In my weight loss journey, that would have been one of my big weeks and I had much more to lose than you did. That said I still lost over 60 pounds in 7 months. After week 1, I averaged 1.85 pounds per week. Please remember you did not gain your weight overnight and it will take time to take it off. FDA recommends a 1-2 pounds loss per week. Of course this is dependent on weight, but based on your weight, 3 pounds is exceptional.

Blessings,
Susie

Hi Everyone!

It appears everyone is doing very well. Remember after the first week losing anywhere from 1 to 4 pounds, depending on how much you have to lose, is considered an awesome week. The pounds going down is the key. Also as many of us who have been on the plan for awhile will say time and again - plan, plan and plan some more each day or week. Not planning leads to either too many calories or really bad choices. Also experiment with the recipes on this web page or create your own, you will become bored if you eat lunchmeat and chicken everyday. Don't kid yourself that you can be happy with little choices on your eating plan, we did not get here by eating the samething everyday....

I had my 23rd weigh in yesterday, I lost 2.8 pounds and now have 71 pounds off, so I am a new member to the 70 pounds off forever club.

Hope everyone has a great week. We are taking our daughter to school on Thursday and won't return until Saturday, there will be lots of eating out, so this week has many challenges.... She is going to Florida Gulf Coast University in Ft. Myers (McBoo's home)! She is going to major in Civil and Environmental Engineering. So Go Eagles and Go Bulls (My son is a junior at USF)!

Keep posting and of course keep losing!!!!!

I agree. Always bagels or donuts, and sometimes fruit at those staff meetings. Today is our welcome back breakfast. I plan on having my Medi shake before going into it and I might allow myself a piece or two of fruit...we'll see. Good luck to you and have a great year!

I'm having trouble staying within my calorie range. My doctor at my clinic says up to 700 a day is fine, but that seems to be the norm for me. I just feel like snacking between lunch and dinner and now lately I like a little something after dinner. It's all stuff on plan, but I find myself choosing the nuts or a medi or atkins snack bar (higher in calories) rather than something lower in calories. I know I probably shouldn't worry because I am in ketosis and I am losing still, but it's only like 1.5 lbs a week for the past 3 or 4 weeks. I am also exercising more and wonder if that has anything to do with the increased appetite or if this is emotional eating. I am on the once a day AS. Any advice?

Great job Robyn.

Wish your daughter luck on starting her college career at FGCU. Your lucky she is going to be an engineering major. She wont have time to go to all the malls surrounding that campus. Gulf Coast Town Center to the north and Mirromar Outlets and Coconut Point to the south.

Hahaha, I know the shopping there is probably the best in Florida. She has a job at the Town Center at Sports Clips (she is a cosmetologist), so she will be visiting that mall for sure! My husband loves the school because of Bass Pro! And I will pass on your best wishes to her!

Any advice?
You have listed a lot of possibilities for your hunger.

1. Only 1 AS could be the problem, maybe take 1/2 tabs before each meal and see if that helps you.
2. Too much exercise for that amount of calories you are taking in can also slow down your weight loss. You don't say what exercise you are doing but you may need 700 cal/day if you are exercising a lot everyday.
3. Nuts are only supposed to be eaten 3 times per week according to my handouts, your clinic maybe different. Also the bars like you say have a lot of calories. How about cottage cheese or Laughing cow cheese wedges instead, these are high protein and much lower in calories.
4. You are still in ketosis and losing, so the plan is working.

I know I didn't answer your question but you just need to experiment on your own. All of us attack the diet differently to customize it to our bodies. Good luck and losing 1.5 pounds per week is really excellent. Keep up the good work!

Hey Jerry

I have a funny story for your Health o meter scale! We bought the scale when I started the diet in March. We programmed all 4 of us into the scale. So on April fool's day, my husband wanted to mess with my daughter and weighed in on her program option. Well the scale April fooled him - it flashed ERR and never worked again!!!!! So we now have a Tanita scale and he is not allowed to weigh on anyone elses programmed buttons!

Bed, Bath and Beyond has a huge selection of scales and in many price ranges and styles!

We had a Weight Watchers scale first and it never weighed anyone the same weight so that one was returned and we got the Health o meter. That was a great scale until April Fool's day! Love the Tanita which matches the clinic as well!

Thanks Jo. One of my doctors, allergist not GP, had suggested 40 lbs or 175-178 last time I was in. She and I are built similarly so maybe that's how she picked that number. Either way, I guess I'll see what the 178 feels like. Thanks for responding! El

Robyn
Congrats to you!!! So happy to hear you hit the 70 pound mark!!! Good for you!!! Enjoy the time with your family while you bring your daughter to school!

Hi Susie,

I am so excited about the 3 pound loss! I was disappointed in some of the choices I made while I had company. This is a learning experience for me, as in the past, I was either *on a diet* or 100% crazy off the diet. I saw a little bit of that tendency creeping back last week. I had a bite of this-and-that and started to think.... "well.... I already cheated so.... " but I did catch myself. My only mistakes were the few bites, which I am surprised happened, but I caught myself before it was an all out binge.

Back in ketosis and feel I overcame some past demons, but sure I will pay for it on the scale.

Thanks so much for your concerns ,
Grace
