Dry Roasted Edamame
Hi, I recently found Dry Roasted Edamame at Costco -- 130 calories per 1/4 cup, 10 g carb, 8 g fiber, 14 g protein. It seems like it would be a good occasional alternative to the 1/4 cup of almonds or walnuts I currently eat each day on maintenance. Do you agree? Has anyone found this to have a good or bad impact on long-term maintenance? I'm in such a good groove right now that I hate to rock the boat, but realize that changing things up every so often helps to avoid food boredom! Thanks.

Michelina, the carbs seem a tad high but the fiber helps with that. I would also check the sodium because sometimes those are doused with a ton of salt. You could always try a small serving to see how your body responds!

Since you are on maintainance it doesn't appear to be a problem to me. Just keep an eye on how your body reacts to them. Some people have problems with soy. McBoo |

There are studies that beleive that it causes hormonal imbalance and thyroid issues. If you google soy health problems you will get plenty of hits.

I picked up a bag of frozen edamame at whole foods with the intention of dry roasting myself to control the sodium.
I have to find an alternative to the almonds........ (TMI ALERT) The almonds give me terrible gas  |

I eat a cup of frozen edamame sprinkled lightly with garlic salt and steamed. I use it as a substitute for veggies since it has carbs and have not had any problem staying in Ketosis.

That sounds delicious -- I'll have to try it. Trader Joe's also sells shelled fresh edamame in their produce department, and occasionally I'll add a small amount to my salads. Not only does it taste great, but it also adds a different texture to the salad, as peas or corn would do.
