Hey Everyone: Hope you are all doing well. Congrats to all the recent losers. Great work.

Has anyone else been to see "My Sisters Keeper"? I saw it tonight. It is a touching movie but be aware... I do not cry easily, and I went back and forth between sniffling and balling my eyes out for 90% of the movie. I do not recommend watching this at the cinema unless you are comfortable crying in public. If you brave it, bring a LOT of tissues.

Hi guys!

Boy you guys have been posting like crazy. I was offline for a day and came back to 3 pages of posts. Time to catch up.

Robynld and Jessica, you are doing so well. Congrats on your losses this week! Jessica, thanks for letting the facebook group know. I'm sure you are right, they weren't being malicious, just the proper thing to do would have been to put in a link to our recipes.

Shas, as everyone has already said, you look amazing. Thanks so much for posting the new avatar. It is such an inspiration to see the changes.

Gretta, how are you doing? Maintenance is going well. I had a minor set back this morning with my TOM. I hadn't had one in 3 months (I'm sorry for TMI ), so it was a surprise and my weight is up a few pounds, but I know it will go back down when it is over.

I hope I didn't miss anyone. I'm off to spin class.

Susie

3.5 pounds down since last Friday! Well, it was a little slower week than normal. Last year I had issues with GERD. Since being on this diet, I've had no issues with it until this week. Last week my 2nd blood test came back and my potassium level was 3.4 when it should be no lower than 3.5. So, after reading that tomatos are a good source of potassium, I began eating one a day last Friday. Then Tuesday, at 11am, I decided to have some low fat 2% Daisy cottage cheese (haven't had since last summer) with a tomato. By 2pm I was bent over in agony. I didn't realize until now that these two items are some of the worst foods to eat if you have GERD or heartburn issues. I was sore all day Wednesday and didn't feel like doing much. Yesterday was better and today, I'm finally back into the groove. Went to Texas Roadhouse last night and had a 6 oz steak with steamed caulifouer and broccoli. Good stuff! WTG all you losers! AND be careful out there this weekend!

~Jerry~Woohoo! Yay on the weight loss. Good for you. No more cottage cheese with tomatoes for you, my friend. Why not try a few raspberries with Fat Free cottage cheese? That should be okay and not give you any problems. Kroger's (Fry's here in PHX) makes a good FF cottage cheese.

Because reading labels is important in choosing which foods to buy, I have become truly obsessive about it as I work this program. So I thought perhaps you all would enjoy
a little quiz about food labelling. There are 11 questions!

SparkPeople Quiz: Are You Able to Interpret Food Labels?

Enjoy!

For me, the AS make my mouth dry. I use a mouthwash specifically designed for dry mouth and it seems to help.

Justin...and I thought it was just me!!! Now I see how body builders get into it. I always thought that was so weird before, but now I am in love with my biceps. I still do not want to look like a body builder, but a little definition is nice.

Gretta, I forgot to congratulate you on your weight loss. It does slow down at the end, but you don't have far to go. Hang in there and it will happen.

Sue and Jerry, Congrats on your losses too! Sue, great minds think alike. I bought mushrooms, onions, peppers, cherry tomatoes and steak tips yesterday to marninate and grill on skewers. It's going to be delicious.
I don't forsee any issues with the 4th. Grilling is a very Medi friendly way to cook. I will stay away from the sweet sauces, breads and starchy sides and deserts. I might make baked apples for desert.

~Susie~ After a couple of weeks working with my "Buns of Steel" video (now on DVD thank God -the tape was about done for), I find myself checking out the backside in the mirror...indeed a little definition is quite nice!

Which cheesecake recipe are you guys talking about for the BBQs? My parents are coming over tomorrow and I'd like to make it, but all I see are the frozen ones or the orange one.

~Jessica~
In the dessert thread, posts #3,4 and the crust in #12. I just doubled everything. And then made two doubled recipes.

Very very good!

So are you taking it frozen Jo?

I'm kind of leaning towards the french silk pie with the Promise spread adaptation. Has anyone tried that yet? My husband loves french silk pie, so I'm hoping it's good!

~Jessica~Yes, I had to borrow my neighbor's freezer to get all the mini muffin tins in! I have done the French Silk pie. I used the Promise spread and the unsweetened baking chocolate. And the crust I used was in post #12. I am still playing with the recipe and do not have the "final" answer just yet. I know Susie and McBoo are working on it too. But it does work with the Promise. It is quite good. At least my guests loved it, and ate it all!

I am playing with a Red, White, and Blue parfait recipe for tomorrow too, just do not have it quite right yet...probably by tomorrow morning I will have it figured out.

Hmmm... do you think the french silk pie would work crustless? I didn't plan for a crust! LOL

Greetings All: Happy 4th of July. Hope everyone has great social activities lined up and that we all stick with our medi friendly eating plans. I am bringing citrus chili shrimp kabobs and a watercress/baby arugula/asian pear salad with ginger sesame dressing. Have had the recipe for a while and now I get to test it!

Does anyone else watch "what not to wear"? Just started this evening. As I am SOOOO determined to hit my weight loss goals, upgrading my look is of great interset to me. As I gained all the weight, I gradually moved away from shopping for clothes that I liked and got in the habit of buying whatever fits me, which honestly feels like not much. They seem to have some good tips on that show.

Some of the people on the show have lost a lot of weight and while they are very shapely now, they still see themselves as their "pre-loss" selves. They struggle with accepting their new selves. This is probably too private a question for a BB, but has anyone here struggled really seeing your new self?

I like that show & watch from time to time...sadly I owned 2 items of clothing that they said were hidious but I guess I shld be thankful it was only 2. But to answer your question....yes, I struggle with seeing my "new" self (or on the road to my new self). Sorry, I wish I could say no & offer you words of wisdom and encouragement.

I was just talking with a friend of mine about a similar topic. I recently came across old (high school old) photos and remembering back to a time that I thought I was fat, but looking at the photos, I was no where near overweight! So I fear that I will always have a poor body image...where does that come from?!? I have obviously had it all my life. That alone can be a weightloss sabatoge. I guess the only encouragement I can give (& I try this in my own life) is to remember the hard work & effort you put in everyday. Take notice & acknowledge the little differences. Whether it's that you made healthy choices or that your clothes fit alittle more comfortably. & no mater what weight you are at, you are beautiful & an amazingly strong person.

Hi!! I haven't been on in a while....CONGRATS to all the losers!!!!!

I just had my weigh-in and I was estatic to find that I had lost 3lbs!!! Walking into the clinic I didn't feel like I had lost anywhere near 3lbs so I was very surprised & happy! & I am now ok with the "slow & steady". I'm thinking about changing my goal weight (just by 5lbs) but was wondering...when I reach my goal weight, I go into the maintenance phase & then do I continue with the fat burners & perscription pills? Do they gradually take you off them or do you just stop taking them? I'm afraid that those are a big part with my weightloss success and once I stop that it will be a huge struggle to keep the weight off.

They do take you off the AS. I don't know about the fat burners as I have been buying my own at Costco for a while. They didn't say anything about them, so I have continued to use them. Coming off the AS isn't as hard as you think because they give you more calories. I am eating around 1500 calories per day and it is plenty.

My sisters actually tried to get me on that show. I would have killed them had they been successful.

I still struggle with body image. When I look in the mirror I don't think I am fat anymore, but in my mind I am. I think part of the adjustment is losing the weight so fast. I lost 62 pounds in a little over 6 months. I had been 62 pounds overweight for around 12 years. I think it takes a while to get used to the change mentally.

On the up side, shopping for clothes is so much fun now. I never enjoyed it when I was heavy. What a difference 62 pounds makes!

Today is day 3 for me on the program. WOW the first to days were hard. On the 2nd day shrimp was my life saver.I had a headache for about 2days, but its gone now. I woke up this morning and actually felt great. I got up and went for a slow 3mile jog.

As far as the meds go the only thing I am taking is the vitamins, calcium and fat burner pills. Do I need to take the prescribed medication?

~Maria~ If your clinic prescribes the AS for you, then you certainly can take it, if they did not prescribe it for you, then there was a reason. You can certainly ask them about it. And good for you, going for a little jog this morning. Keep up the good work, week one is the hardest and it sounds like you are off to a good start! I am off for a walk myself before it gets too hot!

*.*Absolutely Positively Last call for June Stats*.*

Happy 4th of July!

Today is the very last day to get your June weight loss stats to me. I will post them tomorrow morning. I can tell you that we have not yet passed our May total.

So...take a moment from celebrating the freedoms we enjoy in our wonderful country, and either send me a PM or post in this thread, and I will pick up the numbers and add them to our June total.

Thank you!

Hi everyone! I missed a day or two and now there are 4 more pages of posts! Just wanted to pop in with a quick hello, off to a 4th BBQ. No ketosis today!!!! SO I will be super strict all day, I think I may have overdone it with the berries yesterday, or it may be due to the exercise. I FINALLY did some yesterday and felt pretty dizzy and awful afterwards. I need to keep at it though, I have been on the WOE for a month, and NEED to get exercise in. Im starting to feel icky.

I did make cupcakes for the BBQ, I chewed sugar free spearmint gum while making them and used my fiance as the "taster" when making sure the frosting tasted ok and other things. They look cute, S'mores cupcakes, but I wont be eating any of them. I LOVE to bake, so I didn't want to give it up. I had to skip the requested desserts after all, since my trifle dish has a chip in it that I was not aware of. I didn't want to serve anyone chards of glass with their trifle.

Congrats to all of the losers!

Layna_ I think Ill wait for that one on video

Hudiman About the dry mouth- the AS cause me to have dry mouth too, it def keeps me drinking my water! I have also found that SF breath srpay helps with that. I found it at CVS near the toothpaste.

Jerry- Crystal Light hydration should help wioth the Potassium! Also I think avocado will help, do you have a Trader Joes near you? They sell frozen avocado halves, they taste good in salad or on burgers, or in a taco salad.

I made a fruit salad to bring, but I prob won't eat much of it cuz of my lack of ketosis.

Maria: Keep up the great work. Yes, the first few days can be tough, but def worth it . I too had killer headaches for the first 2 days. What seemed to help, besides my body adjusting, was:

1. reducing my caffeine intake, even though I only drink 2 cups a day in the morning and
2. drinking TONS of water, way more water than we are supposed to.

Hope that is in someway helpful and good luck with your journey here.

I bought mine from Asian Food from Pocky to Miso | AsianFoodGrocer.com. Maybe some brands have less of a bad smell?
This is the site site I bought mine from, not expensive, just in case you can't get by that smell!

I am so happy to hear that maintenance is going well! Did TOM stop due to this WOE? It figures it had to reappear during your first week on maintenance! What are the name of the fatburners you buy at Costco? Has it been hard without the AS? Sorry for all the questions By the way , you do not qualify for that show anymore , you look amazing!Cute sundress too!

OK, had a dessert yesterday, and a couple of potato chips. Sure there were other things I didn't even know about while at the BBQ. Today no ketosis, surprise surprise. I haven't had a problem getting myself right back into ketosis, hopefully it will happen this time. Back on track and ready to get those last 6 lbs off. Hope everyone did better then I did this weekend.
And the good news is, the sun was shining in Boston, yahoo!
