Good Evening All, hope this finds everyone in a decent state of mind and life. This is my first time trying to use everyone's names, so please work with me here if I get one of them wrong. I know who is who, just do not always keep the names straight.

Susie: - I hope you have the time of your life on your trip and that your first maintenance WI goes well. I am nervous that you are going away. I feel like I am being left on a new job without the watchful eye of one of my key "go to" people. Thanks for posting so many recipes. My first batch of oopsie rolls just came out of the oven. They all stuck together forming one great loaf, but I look fwd to trying them. Safe travels!

Mommy 2 girls Have you heard of a book called "Sinus Survival Guide"? I suffered from chronic sinusitus, someone gave me that book and it helped my find solutions without surgery. Maybe you can find it at the library if you want to take a read before buying.

Grace Love your theory, makes perfect sense to me.

Robyn Sorry your clinic cannot step up a little there. Sounds like a whoosh as explained by Grace. I have heard that theory someplace else before. And please vent any time. I love to hear people vent. It's good for you, and I completely identify with exactly how you are feeling.

Cindy - you are doing GREAT! 69LBS since FEB

Arabrider: Welcome. You have found the right place. These guys are wonderful. We have kind, respectful, knowledgeable people in all stages... gurus in maintenance, superstars in acute phase, newbies. Have fun getting to know the group. And good luck with your journey.

Medi - I started a running program last week...Couch Potato to 5K. It trains your body to be able to run a 5k in 9 weeks (I am going to do each week twice so it will be 18 weeks for me). My clinic said I definitely need to get in about 150-200 extra calories on the day I work out. That has been hard for me since I have trained my body now to only eat a certain the 500 but I am working on it. I have been adding a little more to my breakfast and then adding in a cheesestick or a tablespoon of peanut butter with a piece of apple right after I run. I am loving the running program so far and hope to see it help with my results on the scale.
Kate, I just wanted to tell you i'm so proud of you, you are such a rock star!!! Great job on the program and really awesome work on your exercise! I haven't stepped up my game in that department, but I'm hoping to get there soon, you've motivated me!! So excited for you, you are knocking it out of the park!!

WHEW!

Whew! I made it through my first "trip" (away from home) since starting Medi. I went to Kansas City for 5 days and managed to record a loss on my weigh in. Matter of fact, I drove from KC to my clinic without going home. So I knew I was on a scale the first morning I left my mini-vacation!

I am not going to say it was easy, because it wasn't. I had to really think and get creative to get in the right foods and enough of them! I have never eaten out in the 8 weeks I have been on program until now, so it was a challenge at times.

The scale says: -2.5 pounds which works for me. But along the lines of the water vs. fat conversation... the read out said I lost 8 pounds of fat, but was retaining 6 pounds of water. Hmmm..... I am hoping the theory that it will all come out this week holds true!

I have one more weigh in before my big vacation (10 days). "I think I can, I think I can...."

I had a vacation in KC this summer too! Their downtown is a lot of fun. Where did you go?

Congrats on your loss!!! Eating out can be a challenge but you just have to ask for what you want! Good job and probably you water gain is from excess sodium from eating out. It will come off once you get back into your normal routine! Drink your water and exercise!

Uh-oh,mom tested out of ketosis today. She called the clinic and went over her journal and the only thing she did different was eat an approved yougart. They said it could have been that....anyone ever heard of that being an issue? Seems so small to throw her out?

Also, when I go to the gym my counselor said to add an extra 100 calories. Is it best to do them right around the time of the gym or can I spread the extra out throughtout the day? I haven't managed to get out of the level "large" ketosis since I started. Wonder if this is why or if it will cause me problems in the future?

Keep up the good work everyone...so far I can tell its all worth it!

I just want to thank everyone for supporting me on my vent! Kate you made me laugh and I did enjoy the little pep talk!!!!!

Anyway, I like some of the theories. Empty fat cells filling with water for a few days does make sense after a big loss. I have been yo-yoing since the beginning of June with this exact scenario - 4-5 pound loss followed by 1 or less than a pound loss the following week. And the excess exercise versus calorie intake is valid as well, it is just hard to figure out when you have done too much for the intake for the day. Weight loss is certainly a pain - lol!!!! Plus as Susie mentioned, women issues don't help with the weight loss either - menopause really is a pain in so many ways!

The good news is, this morning I had a mini whoosh - 2 pounds down from Monday's weigh in weight. So the water retention is letting up and those fat cells are getting skinny again!

Here is a question to those of us who have lost over 60+ pounds - Does your skin, like say, upper arms feel bumpy when you run your fingers over it? I am hoping that is empty fat cells and not my skin getting loose from not being stretched to the limit with fat!

But again thank you to everyone for your kind support and concern! You are all great friends and I treasure all the advice. Happy empty fat cells to all!

Robyn

With the large ketosis, are you drinking the full gallon of water? Not coffee, soda etc, but pure water? Ketosis also points to signs of dehydration, so make sure you get the full gallon of water each day. As far as your added calories, I would add after the workout such as a protein shake. Good luck and enjoy the extra calories!

For your mom, there are many of us who cannot eat certain things because it will knock us out of ketosis. For me cauliflower and asparagus. For others certain fruits. I think it has something to do with our age... The good news is, it is usually very temporary, she will probably be back in tomorrow. Also, the ketone sticks can go bad if they are exposed to too much moisture. Many of us buy our sticks from Walgreens and the like for cheaper and I feel they are better quality than Medi's.

I did get the impression that they assume a lot of people cheat on the diet. They are always SHOCKED when I lose every week. The Dr even told me to slow down... huh?

I'm just going to use them for accountability for now and rely on you guys for the rest. Like I said, they're pleasant, but just don't go any further than that unfortunately.
Thanks Jessica, I am not glad you have the same experience, but it confirms that it is not me! Sometimes, I feel like we could go this alone with this website and save 70 a week. If we paid ourselves this money we would have a nice chunk of money to go clothes shopping with!

Let us know how your appointment goes. I don't have any experience with the sinus issues you are dealing with. I do like the idea of accupuncture instead of surgery. I just don't like meds or surgeries, I like the homopathic treatments better.

Take care and keep up the great success you are having!

Thanks for all your support

Thanks to all for your response. My husband and I are going to do this together, he will not go to the clinic, but will follow the diet with me. He is very excited about it as well!

Jo, I am out in Sun City West area and will be attending the Surprise clinic and also the Scottsdale one when I can't get back out to the one by my house. I am looking so forward to this new chapter and now with my hubby and I cleaning out the cupboards this evening, I am sure to be a success!

How exciting that your hard work is being noticed!! Congrats!!

LOL about the pre-baby weight!!

I am still using "I had twins"... I leave off the part that they are 12!! Some of us just take longer to get the 'baby weight' off!!!

I am very new to this but have asked each time I have gone to the clinic if the 'nurse' has done the program. And none of them have! I am sure they are all smart girls but I feel so much better with weight loss with someone who has walked-the-walk.

I still feel my success so far has been the AS. I call them "will power in a pill". I don't know if I could do without them at this stage.
And how much help do you think the mic injections are? When people "go it alone" are they just doing a low cal/low carb/low fat diet? Just curious.... I don't trust myself to even consider trying it on my own....

Arabrider - Welcome! You have found a great site for support! Good luck to you and your husband! It will be great to have a teammate right at home with you!

Susie - Have a WONDERFUL time! Hope your weigh in went well also..although I am sure it did...you are a Medi rock star!

Mommy-2-girls - Sorry about your sinus troubles! Hope your ENT appointment goes well!

Grace - love the theory! I am sticking with that story!

Babysoyst - Thanks so much for the message and encouragement! I really apprecaite it! You helped me a ton in the beginning with food options and grocery store lists! thanks! You are doing great also! I cannot wait to say BUH-BYE to my 200s!

Amy - congrats on the WL during vacation! that is great! Now you know you can do it for your big vacation!

Loseinit27 - Like the others said, different foods can throw you out of ketosis but your mom can get right back in. And yes on days I work out I add in some extra protein calories.

Robyn - So glad to hear you had a mini "Whoosh"!

Sally - Welcome and awesome job so far! I hear you on the baby weight! I found myself telling people I just had a baby and had to get the weight off....My daughter turns 2 next month....that was when I realized it was time to do something! I had a bad pregnancy too with her and rough delivery/c-section. I had a lot of extra weight on me when I got pregnant and am determinted not to let that happen for my next one.

Hope you are all having a great week!

Hello everyone. I had my weigh in this morning and I lost another 2 pounds. I am very pleased. 14 to go!! As my high weight was over 250, I never really thought I would make it this far. With Medi, the weight just keeps coming off.

Sally- 31 pounds in 7 weeks is amazing!

Amy-I am very impressed that you went out of town and still lost 2.5. Outstanding!

Jerry-Great job on your loss this week...as usual.

Maria-You are really working this program. 14 pounds in two weeks is phenomenal!

Jessica-I am glad you enjoyed your trip. Hope you feel better.

Gretta-You have come so far! Congrats!

Robyn-Sorry you had a frustrating weigh in. I hope you have a better week.

Angel

HI everyone, I am having a really really awful day. I finally went to see the NP at my primary care about all the lack of energy and lethargy and lightheadedness and she was "extremely concerned" about this WOE. She had me see the nutritionist in the office and together they explained the long term damage that I am doing to my body by restricting my calories so much. They said that I will lose the weight in the short term, and that my metabolism is going to adjust to this extremely low calorie diet, and that this is going to hurt me later in life. And although I love seeing the scale go down, I am covered in bruises, my hair is falling out, and I am really having issues with having no energy at all. My energy level is what concerns me most, and the nurse at my clinic (the one who told me to just stick with nothing but veggies this week) just shrigged her shoulders and said "exercise less or have some more calories" which honestly, didnt instill a lot of confidence.

They did an array of tests, blood tests & urine tests at my Dr's office, and I got a call after I came home telling me I need to go to the lab tomorrow for some additional blood tests, but they told me without even seeing the results it is obvious to them that I am suffering from some nutritional deficiencies.

I am going to wait and see when all of the bloodwork comes back, but I am having some serious doubts about continuing this woe. The nutriitionist told me to see if I can find anyoine who has had LONG term success on this program (she defines long term as 3-5 years after acute) and see if it is possible. She said if I continue on this WOE she wants me to come in and show her my journals each week.

Does anyone know ANYONE who has had long term success on this program? In the 3-5 year range? DOes anyone know how long Medi has been in business? Or does anyone know the first clinic that opened? I would like to have my NP or DR call the clinic directly (they offered) but I want someone a little mroe knowlegable than my clinic for her to talk to.

MiMi,

I am so sorry you are not feeling well. I do not have any answers for you about the program since I have been on it a shorter time than you have. I am an RN though and 'nutritional deficiences' usually take much longer than a few weeks to show up.

I personally feel eating 700 calories of protein and fruits and veggies is a far healthier diet than my 2000+ calorie diet of processed crap I was eating before. This diet has taught me to eat consciously instead of the hand-to-mouth eating I was use to doing.

It might not be the correct diet for you to reach your long term goal but carrying around 50 pounds of extra fat is cause for alarm for "long term damage". Is this your first attempt at dieting? I know personally my years of yo-yo dieting have done more to ruin my metabolism than the 3-4 months I plan to be on the acute phase of this program. Also, "long-term success" of any diet has nothing to do with the diet program...it has everything to do with the person following the diet. 10 different people can lose weight on 10 different diets and they all have the possibility to gain it back going back to old ways of eating/living. It has nothing to do with the diet plan they followed. Just look at previous contestants on the Biggest Loser... According to Jillian's podcasts, some of them have done the soul-searching and dealt with the issues they had that made them fat, and are now still slim and healthy. Others have gone back to old ways and are heavier than when they went on the tv program.

Maybe your doctor would get better direction and answers from the corporate office of Medi than your actual clinic. I hope you feel better soon and get the answers you are looking for. I am sure the fatigue and your other symptoms are worrisome.

Keep us posted on what you and your doctor find out.

Grace

I'm only 4 lbs from goal, can't really add anything on the who may have been on this long term at maintenance and actually maintained. I do know that when you reach goal, 200+ more calories are added and you can have 1 starch/bread, 1 fruit, 1 serving of LF dairy and an extra serving of veg. After 2 weeks, 200+ more calories added, 2 servings starch, 1 serving of fat, plus all the other stuff from weeks before. After that your clinic will let you know how many calories you need to maintain. As far as I can see the finished product is a very healthy, well balanced program. Staying away from the white stuff that's bad (white rice, potato, bread, sugar etc.), and eating good fruits, veggies and diary is what we should be doing even if not dieting. It is up to us to keep the weight off. Best thing would be for your Primary to give someone from Medi a call. Everyone is different, you may have health issues that make this not good for you. I have felt great since doing this program. Let us know what happens and good luck. Ginny
Oh, and I found the Crystal Light Hydration at Target, thanks!

Great job Susie,

Enjoy the Cinque Terra. I am so jealous. If you haven't been there before you are in for a real treat.

Thanks guys, and Ginny, glad you found the CL hydration. I have been on the WOE for almost 2 full months now and have lost 16 lbs. SO it has been successful. I just havent felt great. I know being overweight isnt healthy either. It is scary to me to now have two medical proffesionals telling me this is dangerous. I was not a big meat eater before, I wonder if my body is just trying to get used to all the protein it wasnt used to.

I feel like abruptly stopping is not a good idea either. I need to wean off of the AS, does anyone know how long that takes?

Of course I will wait to see what the bloodwork shows, and I plan to ask to see the DR at my clinic for an appointment. In the two months I have been there, I have not even SEEN what the DR looks like. Has anyone been able to meet with the Dr at their clinic? I think I might also go see my Endocrinologist and ask her opinion. I know her, and have seen her for years, this NP I went to see at my PCP office is someone I had never met before.

I can't add anything to what Grace so nicely. If you go to the LCF Atkins page there are people who have been LCing for many many years. Like Grace said they are feeling great and not over weight. I think you probably have some other health issue that is not going to allow you to continue. Your doctor needs to guide you in the future, we are not experts here. Also, I seriously doubt that you have that serious of nutritional deficiencies in the short period of time that you have been on Medi, I think the nurse was trying to scare you.

Good luck and let us know what happens

Robyn

I had another weigh in today. Kinda of disappointed I only lost 1.8lbs. Since I started the program 3weeks ago by BMI has gone down. I am no longer in the overweight catergory. I am currently at 28.9% BMI. I have also lost 5inches in my waist. I have gone from 40in to 35in. I guess I cant complain to much, I was just hoping for a little more. My plan for this week is to have no snack and up my workouts.

Medi - Grace & Robyn said anything I would have and better! I would encourge you to see your Dr (not the new NP) at your PCP and make an appointment with the Dr at the Medi clinic. I am so sorry you are having these health issues. I hope that you can find the cause and work through it while still trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Please keep us posted.

Maria - Congrats on the weight loss! You are doing great!

ChrisLaurie - I am doing the Couch to k5 training program. You can read about it on Cool Running :: running run training marathon runners jogging jogger joggers runner run fitness exercise diet weight loss nut.... Also there are a few great (and free) podcasts for the Couch to 5k in which someone put together a playlist and also tells you when to run and walk etc. They are GREAT if you have an ipod. I am on week 2 and really enjoying it so far!

Mimi: Sorry to hear what you are going through, both how you feel and what your PCP office is saying. I think you have a solid plan though in terms of following up with the PCP and with the DR at your clinic. I hope you get to the source of what is ailing you, as well as a solution where you can feel better and continue your weight loss journey (either on or off Medi).

Do you go to the Wakefield clinic? Please let us know how you make out.
