Sue, I think you know what I want to say,but I won't because you have already beaten yourself up enough. As an FYI, here is the nutritional data for your little splurge:

And you are now feeling the remorse for the evening. Go to your appointment and face the music. There really isn't any other way. Talk to your clinic about why this happened and what triggered it. They will help you find a way through it.

And trust me, when I do reach maintainance, I won't be going anywhere. This group helped so much to get me where I am today, the friendship, the inspiration and the motivation.

Now Sue, get back on the horse and keep riding!

~Susie~I have the Christmas picture which will be my before picture as my clinic did not take one. The after picture will be taken at the clinic when I reach goal. I will have to find out how to do a slideshow, because I have one picture taken in March when I was down about 47 pounds...sort of an in-between one. Superstar? Not exactly, just one highly motivated, determined person!

I know that the acute phase doesnt last forever, but I honestly felt really sad skipping a lot of the fun stuff. It def put a damper on my vaca trying so hard to stick with the plan, but I had preplanned a lot to avoid any missteps and I didnt tell any of the extended fam what plan I was doing, just that I was watching what I ate. I was in ketosis all week. I drank a ton of water, I took all of my vitamins and supplements. So I came home feeling great expecting the scale to be down, and it isn't. I am actually up a pound!!!! I am so upset right now. Ive been feeling really lethargic and lightheaded for a few days, and now I am miserable. I just have no desire to go pay 70 bucks to be told I went up. I am going to try to go on Thursday and hopefully the scale will be better by then. I just feel like all of my hard work did not pay off, and it is incredibly frustrating.

First congrats on staying on plan when you were away. I know that is so hard and you should be VERY proud of yourself. I would not worry too much about the calories as they were probably protein calories. Also, I know that my scale is so "off" compared to the scale at the clinic. When I got home from vacation last week it read that I gained two pounds and when I went to weigh in I had actually lost 2. It could have been water weight that I saw on my home scale so don't put too much into the scale at home in my opinion. You have worked so hard and have great results so far. I would go to your weigh in and see what the scale says and then talk to them. Look at your food journal together etc. If you are feeling lethargic and lightheaded are you definitely getting a full 500-600 calories and drinking all 128 oz of water? Also when I got back from vacation I had 2 days before my weigh in. I was super careful those two days. Drank a full 128 oz of water each day and worked out. So put yourself into high gear now that you are back and you will see results! Good luck and we are all here for you!

I am probably too new to the program to respond to this but it sounds just like me on every-other-diet I have been on. I am trying hard to change my mindset. You mentioned "you felt sad skipping the fun stuff"... It has helped me to change my definition of "fun". Now I try to focus on the great time I had on VACATION (instead of being stuck at home) and focus on the conversations and the laughs had by the camp-fire...not on the smores. Did not eating the smores or having pasta change what you would have been doing at the time? It is not the smores that make camping fun, it's sitting around the fire with friends. You feeling "proud and strong" sticking to the plan, needs to be the main focus. And how great that made you feel. Smores can be had when ever you want them but feeling 'proud and strong' can not be purchased at the grocery store.

Tonight I went to a reception with italian food. I choose not to eat anything at all. Instead, I got up and "mingled" while everyone was eating. I could go from table to table and visit since everyone was busy eating. I changed my focus from the food to conversation. No one even noticed that I didn't eat. When the desserts came out, I thought about what I would like to wear to next years reception when I am 40 pounds slimmer.

I am sorry you are feeling lethargic and lightheaded. Maybe something else is going on. Hope you feel better soon.

I am trying hard to change my focus on things and I am still not good at it all the time. You may need to remind me of this in a few weeks when I post a similiar story!

I can't add anything to this as you have all made great points. The refocusing is a great way of looking at how you attack these difficult food situations. You have to look to future when you are at goal and keep that carrot out there. We are changing our lifes with this program. It is worth it and these changes are not easy but together we can do it and be happier and skinnier!

Ketosis

Today was the end of week 3 for me and I've lost 16 pounds! And am thrilled!!

Had a different counselor/consultant at MWL center. She suggested in a week or two, they would not want me to be in ketosis anymore. What????

Isnt' the whole point of the sticks and the monitoring to stay in ketosis through the weightloss phase?? Will some of you in maintenance or with more than a month's experience please share your thoughts on this. Thanks! El

PS-McBoo-I know you can do a search on threads for this but only one thread at a time. If there's been a similar discussion and you can point me in the right direction, I will go read on my own rather than tie up current board space.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi everyone, I found some protein shakes at costco that are not the eas ones, they are called premier protein, I bought a big box of the, its 30 grams protein, 1 gram sugar, 5 grams carbs and 160 calories, i hope these are ok to use as I can't take them back now. also can i have sunflower seeds or are they to fattening. Also I have tried medi before last year, did great went on my own and gained it all back, so I am better prepared this time, but I had alot of hair loss last year, now that its all grown back, I am worried again, don't want my hair to thin out, and yes I did take the required vitamins last time, is there anything I can add to keep my hair from thinning out. weighed in today and only lost 1 pound. darn it.Thanks, Mary

Hi Mary,

I am in my second week of this diet so in no way am I an expert but.... I drink those same shakes. I also do the EAS but the Premier taste so much better. Also, on some days I have had a hard time getting 500 calories so I liked that they were a few more calories towards my daily total. I could not weigh week 1 because of a cast on my leg but I know I lost at least 6 pounds (before getting the cast on). Maybe someone else can let us know if these are okay for us. But I do love them!!

And on the hair loss.... I have taken Biotin for hair loss before. It is a supplement you can get a Walmart. I also used a shampoo with Biotin in it. You might talk to the clinic because I know weight loss and dieting go hand-in-hand. Maybe they have another suggestion.

Good Luck,
Grace

McBoo, Robyn, Jo, and Kate,

Thanks for your kind words about my present mind set. I do feel my first step in starting this new diet was to change my mind set. That is going to make all the difference in this journey for me! It is not about the food.... This program makes me be able to think things through better. It is the closest thing there is to will-power in pill form!

And my name is Grace.

I have been on Medi acute phase since March (and still there) and I have never been told not to be ketosis. I would ask about this again next week at your appointment.

McBoo-Thanks!1 I should have seen that but will admit I'm running in twenty different directions today. Taking my first trip for business since joining MWL. Will be on the road 12 days of the next 17 so I'm trying on old clothes that now fit-YEAH! Planning food and bars and Crytal Light electolyte packs and exercise programs...and working! So I missed it! Thanks for making it easy!! El

Thanks! I'm actually not going to ask and see if I get a different person with a different thought process. They don't mention it...neither will I. This woman was "different" than most of the people I've met in this office so I'm going to try to steer clear if possible. I like positive, supportive people--like the people on this board! El

I don't know what to do! nobody at my clinic knows much about the program, the only lady that knew transfered to another location which is to far away for me.
I loose about 1.5 to 2 pounds a week...no more than that, and I don't know if that is ok, or if its that ittle beacuse I cheat. For example, if my husband goes to mc donlads I will eat 2 of his fries.
What can I do? I am going back to week 1 today, an see if that helps me to get back in track.
Please advice me and thank you verry much
Karen,

Congrats on being down 30 pounds! My clinic doubled my dose after about 1 month into the program, so that I was taking 2-2-2. Then towards the end of the program I found that I rarely needed them. My body just got used to eating less. I would take them only when I felt I really needed them.

Robyn - You are a force to be reckoned with. You have been so successful on this program because of your committment and dedication. WTG!

Grace - You get the prize for good advice of the day. I so agree with everything you said. If we are mourning the foods we can't have either we are not ready for this program or we need to change our mindset. It is a choice. Thanks for the advice on the biotin. I'm going to look into it.

Mimi - If you are up in weight at all, it might be due to water gain. If you ate out or ate food not prepared by you there may have been excess salt in the food. And how did you do with drinking your water? Can you imagine how much you would have gained had you indulged? Focus on what you can change, i.e. you behavior, instead of what you can't change, i.e. the reading of the scale, and the rest will follow. It concerns me that you are mourning the foods you can no longer have and feeling so deprived. You need to find legal ways to satisfy yourself, with Medi friendly foods and nonfood rewards. Next time you feel discouraged try on the outfit you wore your first appointment at Medi.

Mary - I think the shakes and the sunflower seeds are okay, you just have to incorporate them into your calories.

El - Every clinic is slightly different, but at my clinic the doctor wanted me in ketosis all the way through the acute phase.

Thank you Angel, Jo, McBoo and Susie!! I feel just wonderful and can't wait for the 100 pound mark!

Susie your advice to Mimi is spot on. The weight you could have gained Mimi may have been 10 pounds or more. I love the idea of putting on your first Medi outfit! I am saving mine for a Jared picture (from Subway)!

BTW I have a question: At my visit today, my blood pressure is low... 105/65. I do not take any medication and have never had to. The nurse was a little concerned and took my blood pressure two times and it was the same with different cuffs. Anyone else having this happen and should I be concerned at all?

Thanks again for all the support, I do love it and need it!
Robyn

HI everyone , thanks for the support, I really need it these days. The scale was down slightly this morning, so I agree Susie that it may be salt. I am hoping that is the case!

Kate-thanks for the support, I will def try to get all my water in these next few days and be super on point with everything

Twinsplusone- I wish I could get to that place mentally, but I am not there yet. I am hoping this gets easier with time, but I still feel left out. A lot of my family activities revolve around food, that is what my family does. When I don't participate, I am alone. And I wish it didnt make me sad, but it still does. I am hoping this gets better. I am still trying to "fake it til I make it"

Robyn & Maria_ great job with the loss!

I wish I could change my mindset. Trying on my week one outfit isnt going to help, it still fits the same. I have lost 14 lbs so far, but I am still wearing the same clothes, the only differences that I notice are in my face and my rings are looser. I am hoping to see a difference soon. Getting on the scale and seeing the smaller number really motivates me, and it is helping me hang on. I just feel like I am in a rut right now.

What really struck me was the point about what I might have gained on this vaca had I not stuck to the plan. That def lifted my spirits. Usually after a vacation I feel bloated and gross, and I usually gain at least 5 lbs while away. This time I didnt gain a thing! So that is really good news. And I dont feel icky.

I made an appointment with my pcp about the lethargy and lightheadedness, so I guess we will find out what the deal is. I am really missing my exercise, but when i try to do it I feel awful. I was exercising more before the program. I think I may n eed to increase my calories in order to make it through a workout. For those of you that workout a lot, how many calories a day do you consume?

Robyn - WOW! Good for you! You have done SO well in 18 weeks!!! Keep up the great work!

Medi - I started a running program last week...Couch Potato to 5K. It trains your body to be able to run a 5k in 9 weeks (I am going to do each week twice so it will be 18 weeks for me). My clinic said I definitely need to get in about 150-200 extra calories on the day I work out. That has been hard for me since I have trained my body now to only eat a certain the 500 but I am working on it. I have been adding a little more to my breakfast and then adding in a cheesestick or a tablespoon of peanut butter with a piece of apple right after I run. I am loving the running program so far and hope to see it help with my results on the scale.

Robyn

WTG Robyn... you are awesome and a real inspiration for me! Congrats! I wanna be like you in 18 weeks!

I am the one with the major blood pressure drop, just like you. My first question is whether you have been taking blood pressure meds? I was and Medi suggested a visit to my regular physician for a med change, so mine are cut in half. I am already feeling so much better! Another question is whether you are light headed and dizzy? (Esp when bending over... head below heart level)

Definitely things to talk to dr about!

Thanks Amy!

You will be right with me, look how much you have lost in 8 weeks 30+. Keep doing what you are doing and you will have the same results.

I have never taken any medications, so it is not a medication issue. I have done some reading on hypotension and I am not in the dangerous zone and not experiencing any of the symptoms, so I am just going to watch it for now. Should I drop under a 100 on my upper number I will have some tests done. I don't like medications and some of the solutions to fixing low blood pressure is taking medication! I did read however, that dehydration can cause a hypotensive state, so once again the advice is water water and then some water!

Thanks again for the kind words and your concern. Have a great week!

Robyn
