Medi-Shake - Chocolate by Fabulous@50

My favorite Medi-Shake is the Chocolate with 1 Tbsp of unsweetened cocoa powder. Before mixing it in 12-15 oz of ice cold water, I place the cocoa powder and Medi shake mix in a small container and shake so they mingle well. I then pour all of the powder into water and use the Pampered Chef's Mini-Whipper to mix. The longer you mix, the thicker it gets. I then add a little ice. I drink one or two a day to add more calories (I have a very intense workout routine so I have to add back in the calories I burn). I don't add any sweetner. I think it's fine without.

Strawberries and cream shake by Mommy2Girls

(for week 2 and beyond)
1 c unsweetened almond milk
1 scoop Medi Vanilla shake powder
Ice (more or less depending on how "icy" you like shakes!)
1 packet Splenda
4 small strawberries, stems removed
1 tsp Vanilla extract

Blend well to your preferred thickness and enjoy!

I made this yesterday (she suggested strawberries and almond milk, I added the other ingredients) and it was yummy! But very rich tasting and I could only finish 1/2. Next time I will definitely make 1/2 this recipe, so I would suggest that you consider this recipe to be for 2 servings unless you are replacing a meal (I was just doing it as an afternoon snack).

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Shake/Drink

This is a great meal replacement, or post work out recipe. It can also nail a sweet tooth late at night as well.

Ingredients:
100% ON Whey Protein - Double Rich Chocolate

PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter

Truvia Sweetener

Almond Breeze Unsweetened Vanilla

8oz Almond Milk
1 Rounded Scoop Whey Protein
2 TBSP PB2
1 Truvia Packet

Mix in a shaker or in a blender with some ice cubes...or frozen strawberries if you like. If you blend with Ice you get even more out of it...but it is delicious either way.

Seems a little high in Sodium but I have been making things like this throughout the program and haven't had issues with my water...some may be more sensitive to it.

These ingredients or variations of can also be used to make ice cream...in fact skip the blender, use the shaker...then pour into a bowl and stick in the freezer. Mix it up every 30 mins or so until desired consistency is achieved and then top with sugar free cool whip...

edit: just a reminder that protein shakes after working out is essential to rebuilding muscle the right way...amino acids and whatnot...Whey protein is great for this

*.*Healthy Makeover Eggnog*.*

Caution advised here, as it still requires moderation!

Healthy Makeover Eggnog

From Good Housekeeping

When it comes to holiday-time calories, nothing adds to your bottom line as much as this rich punch. But only a scrooge would give up eggnog altogether, so check out our slimmed-down nog at one-fourth the saturated fat and half the cholesterol. We replaced whole milk with low-fat (and skipped the heavy cream), but kept the silky texture and decadent flavor by simmering the milk and sugar with cornstarch and by using more egg whites and fewer yolks.

Ingredients

3 large eggs
3 large egg whites
5 1/2 cup(s) low-fat milk
1/2 cup(s) sugar
2 tablespoon(s) cornstarch
Salt
2 tablespoon(s) vanilla
1/2 teaspoon(s) (plus additional for sprinkling) ground nutmeg
1/3 cup(s) dark Jamaican rum (optional)

Directions

In bowl, with whisk, beat eggs and egg whites until blended; set aside. In heavy 4-quart saucepan, with heat-safe spatula, mix 4 cups milk with sugar, cornstarch, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Cook on medium-high until mixture boils and thickens slightly, stirring constantly. Boil 1 minute. Remove saucepan from heat.

Gradually whisk 1/2 cup simmering milk mixture into eggs; pour egg mixture back into milk in saucepan, whisking constantly, to make custard.
Pour custard into large bowl; stir in vanilla, nutmeg, rum, if using, and remaining 1 1/2 cups milk. Cover and refrigerate until well chilled, at least 6 hours or up to 2 days. Sprinkle eggnog with nutmeg to serve.

Makes about 6 1/2 cups.

Another way to make chocolate milk with 20 fewer calories...

Put Waldens 0 calorie chocolate syrup in unsweetened vanilla almond milk. It is only 40 calories 2g carbs, and 1g fiber for an 8 oz glass and tastes rich and creamy. Next time I will heat it up and make cocoa.

This is a recommendation - not a recipe. I was told that the protein shakes sold by Jay Robb were pretty good, and I bought some to try. THEY ARE GOOD! I bought a sample package of the Pina Colada and had it this morning. It is DELICIOUS and it really doesn't taste like a protein shake (or anything healthy for that matter)! I really liked it!

The Nutritional Info is:
Calories 110
Cholesterol 0
Sodium 150
Potassium 380

Protein 25g

I think this is a great alternative for those of us who struggle with the shakes - it was better than the EAS shakes IMO but obviously, not convienently packaged!

You can check it out by googling Jay Robb (can't post the link).

Jennifer, Were you able to purchase these from a store? Sounds like a good alternative for breakfast or late evening after my 12 hour shifts when meal time is late. Thank you.

QueenCityDiva 01-13-2010 10:08 PM

I ordered them online, but they may be available in some stores - I'd check the website!

Hi, I tried the unsweetened cocoa too and thought the same thing - dessert! Our stats are very similar and I just started in February also. I'm curious to see your next post to see what your last weigh in was. I'm .2 lbs from a total of 15 lost.

Congrats to you and keep posting!

Strawberry or Orange Protein Shake with Powerade Zero

OMG - this is so yummy!

Instead of mixing H20 with your vanilla protein shake powder, use 8 ozs of Powerade ZERO (I've tried both the Orange and Strawberry) and it taste wonderful - and it is a great way to get electrolytes in and it taste like a orange cream or strawberry creme milkshake *use your imagination just a tad* :)

Medi-Friendly Coffee Recipe

I'm not sure this constitutes a recipe but it is a great way to satisfy the sweet coffee cravings I have had (darn you Starbucks for getting me hooked!)

1 serving of International Cafe Sugar Free/Decaffeinated Instant Coffee (I like the Suisse Mocha and the French Vanilla)
1 tbs. Breyers Carb Smart Vanilla Ice Cream

After you make the instant coffee add the tablespoon of ice cream. The ice cream adds a creaminess to the coffee.... yum!

1 serving is 8 oz.

Jodi, did you eat this is the acute phase? I'm going to ask my clinic on Tuesday if it's OK for me; just wondered.

Tellfair 08-27-2011 09:44 AM

I have enjoyed and used many of the recipes on this thread, they've been very helpful. I am going on my fourth week of the program. The only problem I've had is finding some of the ingredients such as Walden Farms, Miracle Noodle, the fit and carb yogurt and the PB2 (which I believe other members have indicated you have to buy from a website). Has anyone found these at Trader Joes or Whole Foods?

Not sure about Walden Farms stuff.......we have some WF things at Publix, and some other stores locally.....BUT Netrition (our host for this LCF site) is GREAT! Very fast shipping, and their pricing is good. I just ordered the Miracle Noodles "rice" from them along with several other items that I get from them frequently. I use the Miracle Noodles quite a bit, but have never tried the "rice".......just make sure you rince under running water (I hold my breath, so I don't get any of the "fishy" smell people say they get when they open the package....THEN I soak them in water with a little white vinegar added. I blot them on several layers of paper towel, before adding them to "whatever" sauce I'm using. They are NOT pasta, but they do the trick for me!

Personally I don't care for many of the WF products, but there are plenty of other people who LOVE them!

I buy and use a LOT of PB2 in my protein shakes, mixed with yogurt, and with whipped cream or cool whip
