Fairly new and think i'm about to fall off track
I started MWL on May 28. I am doing great! I went to a dinner party and had self control. Even went to a cook out to support my friend and did excellent!! But now it's Monday, running out of choices to eat, and getting the "i miss pasta & sandwiches" depression. Tired of running back and forth to the bathroom. Deli meat, tuna, and canned chicken is driving me insane. I want to believe that its all worth it. I am trying so hard to stick it out till Thursday (my weigh in), but i am struggling. I just dont know what to do. I've read all the great sucess stories (congrats to all on the weight loss) and hope for that to be me this Thursday. I just need some true motivation.

I know

I know what you mean about getting tired of the food. Have you checked out the recipe section? There are some good ideas there. How about the EAS shakes? I think they are fairly good, and it seems to make me not hungry for a bit and gets 110 calories out of the way. Check out waldenfarms.com and their products. I just tried their scampi sauce for shrip and it was delicious. All the walden farms products are fat calorie sugar carb and cholestorol free. I just passed my 30 day mark without cheating once. IT WASN'T EASY!!! You dont know how bad I wanted a drink time and time again, how I wanted to get fast food like my co workers, how I wanted a candy bar out of the vending machine..... I just kep telling myself every one of those things I would have given in on would have cost me $80 (my office visit). I know my suggestions are basic, but lets face it, the program is what it is. You just have to have a focus and stick with it. I was so bored my second week, but then after the 3rd and 4th weigh in and losing 16 pounds in a month I just want to be done with the other 15 and into maintenence and not be shelling out the money every week and keep off the weight. When in maintenance I know you get to eat some additional "things" but its not going to be a free pass to pig out on all the bad foods all over again. It really is a long term program and you have to be in it for the long run. Becky |

Becky has stated things very very well. And she is still relatively new to the program. Neither of you has a tremendous amount of weight to lose, and sometimes that can cause people to lose focus. But as Becky has stated...it is truly not worth it to go off program. This program is costly, but well worth it. I have a total of 102 pounds to lose, of which I have lost 71. And it has been hard work all the way. The program requires a 100% commitment from you, and a commitment to a totally major lifestyle change. You will be changing your attitude about food for a lifetime. Read through the threads and you will see how much success our members have experienced, and how happy they are now. This program truly works, but not all by itself, the biggest element to success is you! Take a look at the Newbie thread too, there are a lot of good tips and hints to be found there....and come on over to our main June thread too for support and encouragement. Welcome Newbies! Helpful info for week 1. And to the group!Jo Last edited by Desert-Rose7; 06-01-2009 at 01:41 PM.. |

Thank you Becky and Jo, I really and truly needed the encouragement. I heard of the shake but when I went to Walmart I did not find it. I dont cook because I dont know how to cook healthy..lol, do that make sense? I read the results on a couple of people and I am very happy for the accomplishment. I am going to stick it out, like Jo said, goal weight is not much and I know it can be done, I just have to keep telling myself that. Well I guess I will keep you updated on how this progress is going. Thanks

Learning to cook healthy is really a side benefit of the program. I really do not like to cook, but find myself cooking more and enjoying it more now than ever before!
The EAS shakes are available at my local Fry's (Kroger's) and I have found them at Walgreen's and CVS also. I am sure the Florida people can give you more places locally. Jo |

I am not a cooker, I am mostly lazy. I either bake some chicken, stir fry some shrimp, or make some tuna salad with the walden farms mayo. Other than that I eat lunchmeat with mustard. I sleep late and end up running out the door in the morning. At work I get 5 or 10 min for lunch.... Sometimes for a quick bite I have turkey pepperoni. I am not very creative and am at the point where I dont feel like eating the same crap and just eat because I know I need to. I like mixing the vanilla protein powder shake with orange crystal light packets and a pack of splenda... thats good and refreshing. Just try to stick to the program and stay positive. Get all your water in too! Becky |

Which Walmart do you go to. Some of us are in the area and can point you in the right direction.
Sadly they are in different locations in the local Walmarts. McBoo |

Week 1 you really have to mix it up to avoid the boredom. Deli meat and canned chicken will only take you so far. Consider making eggbeater omelettes, buffalo chicken (using Franks Buffalo sauce), shrimp cocktail with cocktail sauce made from 1c ketsup, fillet mignon on the grill, salmon on the grill, scallops, chicken sausages. Splurge with your protein sources. After week 1 you can have cheese, and limited amounts of veggies and fruit. There are lots of great recipes on the recipe thread. I have found that I can have just about anything I want by modifying the recipe like pizza, quesidillas, phili cheesesteak. I just eliminate the crust or bread. Tonight I had chili dogs without the bun. You can do this. Like Jo said, you should check out the Newbie thread. You may experience weakness and headaches. That is from the carb withdraw. That only lasts a few days. The EAS protein drink is good (make sure it is the one with 110 calories) and low sodium chicken broth is a life saver. Please hang in there and keep posting. We have all been there and we all want to see you succeed. Oh, and !Susie |

Duh, I didnt even pay attention to the location. If you go to the medi off of six mile cypress and metro, the walmart on the corner of 41 and six mile carrys them. If you go in the right entrance and make a right, go past the pharmacy and its I think the second aisle on your right is where the shakes are about middle of the way down on your right.

A couple other ideas if you are not a big "cooker"
Like Susie said, shrimp.. I enjoyed boiling these and adding some Old Bay seasoning to the water. Yum! Jimmy Dean makes a pre-cooked turkey sausage (near the bacon) and Robyn clued me in to those. They are GOOD. You can have 3 and that totals 120 cals for breakfast. Microwave for 40 secs and you're good to go. I'm not much of an egg-eater, so I enjoyed those a lot for breakfast. Grill a few pieces of chicken and then keep it in the fridge. MUCH better than canned. I liked adding it to a cup or 2 of chicken broth flavored with ginger.. sort of an "asian" chicken soup! After week 1 add some miracle noodles and spinach. I'm not a huge fan of the EAS shakes (or any protein shakes up to now unfortunately) but when I add a cup or so of ice and blend until it's super-thick, it becomes very filling! Fresh fish is good, easy to grill or broil, and you get a slightly larger portion. I stuck with whitefish so that it was fewer cals. There are some hot dogs you may be able to have. It's not strictly on the week 1 list but if you read the labels and make sure they are reduced fat, calorie, and low carbs, it may be OK. I believe I had these once or twice in week 1 because I was giving them to my daughter and I needed something NOW. Hope some of that works for you! It's all about choices. You can eat fatty meats and not have much to eat at all, or choose leaner cuts and enjoy a larger meal. Week 1 is HARD but you will make it and be SO happy when you have your weigh-in! I just finished my 1st month and lose 22.2lbs.. so yeah, this can work! Hang in there!!! Jessica |

The first week is the hardest and easiest. Easy in that you are so limited that there aren't loads of things to eat. That said, the suggestions above give you some variations. The hard part is getting over the hump and looking forward to mega weight loss. It is only a week and then you get to add the veggies and fruits, it is well worth following. Have you been taking the appetite suppressants? They truly help. Also, you are like me, not loads overweight, some people get upset if their first week is not the 12-18 lbs lost. I think when you have less to loose you are apt to have a lower loss, I lost 6 lbs the first week and have been chugging along with 1-3 each week. Stick with it, it gets easier. Good luck.
