I have some questions again! I should start my WEEK 2 on Monday, but I do not have my first weigh in until Thursday, so I ahve some questions.
How many carbs a day should I shoot for on week 2? I do not want to knock myself out of ketosis. How many carbs do you stay under? I can have 2 cups of green veggies, but I am confused about how much of the other things. Like Laughing cow lite cheese and peanut butter, how much can I have? |

20 grams of carbs a day...for the total time of your acute phase.
Please take a look at the materials you received on your initial visit. There is a whole lot of information on choices. For meals, snacks, along with a calorie chart for fruits and vegetables. The carbohydrates from fruits and vegetables are in addition to your 500 basic calories of protein and fat. There should also be a sheet of sample menus for week 2 included in your materials. And a huge food calorie chart is in your materials too. A shopping list for the acute phase is in your materials also, and there is a ton of good information there as well. And of course, we are all here too. Jo |

Hey Becky, This is a great site and there is a lot of motivation going on but I feel like I don't have much to add to the forum. I am going to continue MWL bc I do want to reach my goal. Sometimes I feel like I'm doing a wonderful job and then next minute I get discouraged. But when its all said and done I am going to stick to it. I will check in here and there to see if any new recipes or ideas come up. Believe me, I'm not gonna give up that easy this time around. Thanks a bunch for encouragement and keep up the good work! I had to cancel my appointment for yesterday because the A/C went out in the early morning hours, and I had to be home for the A/C people..they could not give me a time....
Thankfully, I have A/C back. Phoenix in June is not a time for no air conditioning. I did weigh myself and know that I have lost, however, I will wait until next Friday so it will be official! Jo |

Staying Strong
Well MWL friends, I was having a melt down and didnt know what to do
After a couple talks with my sister and reading over the forum again.. I've decided to stay on here and help with encouraging myself & others .I guess I was not too happy with losing the 5lbs because thats all I kept talking about. I really was hoping for more . I'm staying on track and doing what needs to be done. I just find myself not eating as much. I'm afraid if I add in the veggies I'm going have a down fall. All I do now is eat chicken and drink protein shakes. I was also wondering if sugar free gum was allowed. I forgot to ask the clinic before I left.Well MWL friends, I'm back and I'm here to stay Sorry for all the confusion in the past post. I am working my way on to a new me!Tiff |

How much you lose week 1 has a lot to do with how much you have to lose. If you read through the forum you will see that bigger people tend to lose more that first week than smaller people. Look at the week 1 weight loss thread. Even for me, the closer I get to goal the slower the weight loss goes. But that is okay as long as I get there. I'm glad you decided to hang in on the boards. This is a great place to go when you get discouraged and a great place to go when you are celebrating success. Good luck and keep posting. Susie |

hey bksfinest - I would check the carbs on your sugarfree gum - they add up quick - at least they did with me so I don't chew it anymore. Adding the veggies has not slowed me down. I support what hudiman said -it probably took you more than a few weeks to put on the weight.
In my infinite wisdom (having been on for almost 6 weeks - hahaha) I would think that just eating chicken and drinking shakes is going to be difficult to commit to in the long run. I would try varying your protein if you can - after all - it is a lifestyle change. I am just starting to be a little adventurous myself, with the help of my friends here Stick with it - it will happen (and for sure if you don't - it won't). The best thing I did for myself was to just quit thinking about it all the time. Good luck!

~Macauley~A couple of things for you! First is: there is a Buffalo Exchange over in Berkeley, as well as a couple in SFO. You might pop in there for clothing, and also take your "too big" clothing over as well. I go the the Buffalo Exchange here and have found some good things. Here is the website:
Store Locations - San Francisco Metro - Buffalo Exchange New & Recycled Fashion Depending on your height, you may have luck with Sams. I am too tall for their pants and jeans, so almost always have to get them online... And you may well be correct about the SF gum. The only time I chew it is when I am walking...always have..for some odd reason, I set a pace for myself by chewing gum...wierd I know...but it works. ~Tiff~ I am so happy that you have decided to stay with us! There is so much help, information, support and encouragement in here. I began the program in December of last year and did not find the forum till February. I was prowling about looking for recipes, and I found our forum. And I love this group. Everyone is caring and supportive and here for each other. Susie is right when she says the first week loss is truly dependent on the total amount you have to lose. And as "hudiman" says, and I agree, slow and steady wins the race! ![]() Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend! Jo |

Heeellllp! Im having my first diet emergency! I am at work, and my lunch bag has disappeared from teh refrigerator! I knew I shouldn't have picked out the really cute one!!! I checked all around, and it is GONE, so now I have no food! Im here for 8 hours! Im so upset, I had all of my chicken & tuna all proprtioned out. ANd an EAS shake. Another person that works here told me it happens all the time. WTH? A lunchbag? Seriously?!!!
![]() The cafe is closed, I can order out, but not sure what to get? I am not supposed to have veggies until Monday! I was thinking ogf ordering either a chicken ceaser or chicken kabob & just eating the chicken! They don't have anything thats like "just meat" . Im terrified! Im tempted to not eat, but afraid it is too long to wait until I get home. Who steals a lunchbag? I just want to cry. |

It really is not good to go without food. Is there anywhere close by that is similar to a little market? That would help. If not and you have to order out, just get whatever you can that is pure protein as much as possible. And get enough to get you through the 8 hours. And after work, get another lunchbag and some blue ice! And keep that little lunchbag with you! ![]() Jo |

thank you so much for responding I am in a full fledged panic! I can't leave here, I am trapped! I would have to take a shuttle to get to my car, and it takes more than my 30 minute break to shuttle to the car, go somewhere and shuttle back up here.
I am going to order either a chicken kabob sub or salad, but Im only going to eat the chicken. I am terrified this is going to kick me out of ketosis! Im afraid not to eat though. If I am not in ketosis tomorrow, Im going to cry. Im so MAD! Im going to have to get those little ice packs too, and keep my lunch with me. We need a security camera in the cafe. I would just love to know who would steal a lunchbag. I am sure there a lot of much more appealing looking lunches then mine! |

I can't imagine someone stooping to that level. Won't they be surprised when they see what's inside. ![]() I would go for the chicken kabob and instead of over rice have it over a bed of lettuce. You could also have a side salad with any kind of grilled chicken, salmon, or lean beef. Ask for sauces and dressings on the side. Good luck with your dinner. Next time pack your lunch in an empty frozen vegetable bag. I can assure you that will keep the thiefs away. Nobody ever stole a bag of frozen brocolli. I use this tactic to keep my kids out of my food and it works. ![]() Susie |

Thanks guys for caring. I was feeling sad and all alone. I ordered a salad, I am going to just eat the chicken. Cross your fingers for me that it doesnt ruin my ketosis. I asked them not to marinate the chicken, just to grill it plain and the kid on teh phone said if they have any chicken that is not in the marinade he will make it plain for me.

Mimi- Hang in there hon! You are SO close to finishing week 1. A chicken kebob sounds just right. What kind of place are you ordering from? We may be able to help you if we can see the menu. Also, be sure to drink your water and that will help, but the other folks are right.. you need to eat! Better to eat something that has a few more cals than you want than to go totally without in this situation. You still have quite a few hours on your shift, right?
One other idea.. are you married or do you have any friends you could call to bring you some food? If the kebob doesn't work out or if you still need another meal, don't be afraid to call somebody who might be able to run something up there for you. (((hugs))) Doesn't help today, but the medi bars are pretty good and you could throw a couple of those, as well as some measured portions of almonds and an EAS shake into an "emergency" bag and keep it either in your desk or bring it in with you and put it wherever you keep your purse. (((hugs))) again! This stinks but you're going to make it and have an AWESOME weigh-in!!

To be perfectly honest, I have dealt with people stealing lunches almost everywhere I have worked. These are all Fortune 500 companies with great reputations. And good security. But somehow, when it comes to lunches, it doesn't seem to matter. I have had lemon juice, lunches, ground coffee, and coffeemate taken. Always had my name on everything. Finally labelled the coffeemate and the lemon juice with not only my name but also a little blurb that stated: contains K-lor medication. And oddly enough, both items were left alone. It is terribly rude to take someone else's lunch, but unfortunately it happens more than you might think. And there were security cameras in the lunchrooms just not near the refrigerators!
Mimi, you will be fine. I would make sure that someone in authority is aware. And won't that person be flipped out when they find out just exactly what they have taken. Jo Last edited by Desert-Rose7; 06-06-2009 at 05:05 PM.. |

Thanks for your feedback. Truvia is the new and improved healthy sweetner. It is supposed to be more natural, coming from the stevia plant, and therefore safer. I like it because it has the texture and weight for real sugar (in the truvia form) and it handles baking better as it can be used at higher temperatures than splenda. Some of the health food store sell it in a liquid form. I would stay away from that as it is very concentrated and does not taste as well in my opinion. Susie |

Thanks to all of you for helping me get through that, I was really upset, Im ok now. I got the kabob and the chicken def was marinated in something but it was grilled and it was good. The delivery kid said that it was some type of italian dressing, so hopefully it will be ok!I just ate what I needed to have something in my stomach and put the rest in the fridge in case I get hungry later.
I do have to say, one benefit of this diet, I have never wanted a salad so bad in my life. I bet my first veggies on Monday will be the most delicious salad I have ever eaten, just because I have waited a whole week to have it! I don'tknow why I got so stressed and upset. Week one diet makes me a little cranky I guess. Im still sad about whomever stole my lunch bag, but well what can you do but laugh at this point? I never would ahve even thought someone would so something so bizzare. But thanks for all the support!! I hate feeling out of control. PS I LOVE the frozen veggie bag idea! ~Mimi~See, you did just fine...maybe not totally as medi-compliant as you would have liked, but you made an intelligent choice and are going on from there. I think I would REALLY have been upset over the theft of my lunch most of all. And you are right about salad greens. I was ecstatic when I could have my spring greens again!

Mimi- I'm glad you made it
susan1234- Watermelon is very high in sugar, so I don't think it's OK. But I'm not too sure so I would love it if somebody else had a definitive answer! I had a little scare last night! My ketosticks started showing a negative result!! I was SO upset. I have not deviated from the diet at all, never cheated at all! But I read through my packet and saw that exercise can effect ketosticks because your muscles use the ketones before they get to the urine. I was at the zoo walking around for a couple of hours with my kids yesterday and then when they were napping I did a solid hour of areobics and strength training on my Wii Fit. My husband kept telling me not to worry. This morning the stick was bright purple again, clear as day. So now I know! I won't panic as badly next time. I was really really not looking forward to repeating week 1 to get back into ketosis |

Yep, Cindy is correct. Watermelon, unfortunately, is a no-no. Looking on the calorie pages that came with your initial materials, watermelon is listed as follows:
Watermelon, raw...1 piece...2g fat...155 calories...35g carbs...3g protein/482 g (size) Watermelon, raw...diced 1cup..1g fat...50 calories...11 g carbs..1g protein/160 g (size) Jo |
