I used to be like you, I didn't tell anyone but after about 35 pounds people started noticing and I couldn't lie to them, well I did, I didn't tell them that I was paying to lose weight and I was on 500 calories per day. But now that I have 50 pounds off, I am having to come clean all together because now they want to talk about what I am eating. Sooooo now I just tell the truth from the get go. And yes I get a lot of "help" most of it wrong. I also get a lot of "that can't be good for you blah blah blah....". But I feel so good and I am starting to like how I am looking that now I also don't give a rats azz what they think! I let them talk and then I simply say "Well it is better than being over 300 pounds, at least now I have a chance to live longer and save taxpayers money by not having to support my fat butt when I can no longer work because of health issues". This has always ended the conversion and I move quickly into something I want to talk about! Rude I know, but I think they are being rude to me as well!

My family has been great and they support me in everyway possible. You should tell your family, they will probably surprise you and yes they will be diet police but they will quickly learn from you what you can and can't do.

As far as the co-workers, they will know eventually because of the changes they will see in you, so you will probably need to come clean about your WOE. And again if someone is offended because you are not eating junk that is going to totally derail your hard work for the week, well then let them be offended, they are not your friend anyways. At the party, just tell them you are on a very strict diet and cannot eat sweets, but please enjoy them for you and you love that everyone is celebrating with you! Have a big glass of water with you to keep you full too!

Good luck. It is a journey to say the least!

thanks to boo i had a nice, but pricey, lunch hehe...

was a nice break from lunch meat to do every now and then

i told them i was on a pretty specific diet and she was very helpful and they catered to me.
7oz of broiled scallops (she told me they were normally broiled in butter so i was able to avoid that) with lemon on the side and double green beans.

Robyn, you know what I response when people tell me bad things about my 700 calorie diet and appetitte suppresant pills? Well, I alway say ... It is worse to be obese, with high cholesterol and high blood pressure. I was taking pills for cholesterol and blood pressure and now I do not need them. So my 700 calorie diet and appetitte pills is saving my life .....

I said something like that also, when my cousin, which is a doctor, critized my appetite pills. When I told him that I do not need to take the cholesterol pills AND blood pressure pills any more and those pills are more dangerous than my appetitte pills, he agreed and did not say a word any more.

We will always find supportive people too. My closest family have been very supportive and they love the way I look and fell now, If they and me are happy, I do not give a sh*t what the rest of the people think!!!

I am going on a cruise this weekend ..... very anxious about that. It is my first cruise and I do not what to expect. I have been eating just protein this week, before going cruising, just in case

I will inform, as McBoo suggested few weeks ago, to the people in the kitchen, that I am in a low fat/low carb diet, so they can make some modifications to my dinner .....

Good luck everyone!!!!

~Orlando~You can contact the cruise line directly, or your travel agent, if you booked through an agent, who will contact the cruise line for you. You can let them know this now before you even board, and reconfirm on boarding. Most cruise lines are extremely accomodating.

~Heather~ WTG girl! You are almost there!

Last year when I had nothing to wear because my 14s were too tight, I never dreamed that this year I would have nothing to wear because the 8 and 10s I bought when I hit maintenance last Sept. were too big. This program is amazing and you can keep the weight off, unlike everything else I've ever tried.

My original goal was to be "under 150" so I graduated myself when I hit 148.I went to the clinic 1 month later and had lost 3 more pounds so I decided I didn't need to go back. For those of you who are close and trying to decide whether to keep going to the clinic, I can tell you that I have lost a total of 10 lbs. since I started maintenance last Sept. I have not at all been trying to lose any more but I think the combination of the new eating lifestyle and a pretty rigid exercise regime just kicked in.

Maintenance has not been difficult. The hardest thing to me is the constant pressure I feel to stay diligent and on top of it, but that is probably what is making it work and something I will have to live with.

I am thrilled to see how many of you are so close. I look forward to sharing maintenance tips with you. Continuing to check in on this board has helped me a lot on maintenance, and I hope you all stay with the board when you get there. Celia

Celia,

YOU ARE MY HERO!!!!! If it wasn't for you, I would not have joined Medi and be affectionately called the "Skinny *****" now!

I'm REALLY, REALLY proud of you!!

P.S. I'm on my lunch hour right now so I'm not "stealing" firm time.

~Celia~ You truly are an inspiration to so many of us!

~Mimi~I was upfront with everyone from day one. I began the program just prior to the holidays, and was travelling to be with family. I had to tell them so they would understand why I was eating so differently. They were most understanding. My co-workers had already seen one of our managers (my mentor at work) lose with the program so they really were encouraging. My doctor is the one who sent me to MWL so he is happy too. People who have not seen me in a while are so surprised and mostly complimentary. Some of these are people who said nothing when I was up at 262, and not surprisingly, think it is "dangerous" etc. I give their words little thought. Some of them are overweight themselves as well. So I give credence to those who know me best. And I know I like what I see in the mirror, even though I do not always recognize the face that looks back at me! :-)

~Jerry~There you go! Back on the weight loss trail again. I just knew it would only be a momentary slow down!

Patti- WTG!!! That's awesome!!!

Celia- SO great Stick around so that we can get your tips!

Mimi- I shared with my immediate family because they have done similar diets. I have also shared with a few friends when appropriate (i.e. we're planning a playdate or lunch out, etc). They have all been really supportive but I don't share all the details unless they want to know.

Jerry, Patti and Heather - WTG!

Mimi - I was very open about the program from the start and heard a lot of criticism. Even my husband was concerned that I wasn't eating enough, but now 58 pounds thinner, he loves the way I look, can see how healthy, energetic and good I feel, and is so very proud of me. I used to have high cholesterol and was borderline diabetic. All my numbers are now in normal range and my doctors are so impressed. Now when people ask about the program I just say it is a doctor supervised low carb, low calorie plan. I tell them it is the most effective plan I have ever done and I have done them all. Nobody criticizes now.

Orlando - First off, have a great time on your cruise. My WW leader used to say that you need to decide ahead of time if you want to lose weight over your vacation or maintain. Be sure to take your AS and drink all of your water. Focus on the activities and conversations instead of the food and make good choices at your meals like grilled seafood, chicken, lean beef, fresh veggies, and fruit. Try to avoid/minimize the sauces, breads, sweets and alcohol. If you do decide to have a drink, water it down or have a glass of water after each drink. Your memories of the cruise will be so much better if you stay in control and don't leave feeling guilty. And don't forget to take lots of pictures! (Why don't they have a smiley in a bikini?)

Well tomorrow is my first weigh in and I am so nervous. I have been drinking water, eating my calories and trying to stay at 500 but for some reason it adds up to 480-490 some days. My doctor told me not to work out this week so that my body get used to the pills. I've been logging everything and staying on track. I want to believe that I lost some weight, but I dont feel it. I dont know what I am going to do if I did not lose any weight.

Is is bad to drink the EAS shakes everyday? The french vanilla is pretty good

Well MWL friends.. wish me luck

Susie et al. - thanks for your responses. I could tell by your posts that you certainly live the program. Only being four weeks in I am still a 'purist' because I am afraid to rock the boat - meaning that I usually just eat a hunk(s) of protein and my cup of veggies (not ready for the fruit yet).
I know that I have read a few posts from others that they do the same. I think that when I get a little closer to my goal I will start being more adventurous. I am going traveling in July and I know that I will have to be more open to my options then. The recipe thread sure has some great looking options!
Thanks to all of you for your commitment to writing on the threads!

I'm not sure what you mean about being a "purist" as opposed to what I am and others are doing. I have stuck to the program 100% and have lost weight every week since I started for a total of 58 pounds in about 24 weeks. The recipes and variety in my diet have been what has kept me on program. I would totally get bored eating processed meats and a cup of veggies at every meal, not to mention the sodium you get from the processed foods, although I know that works fine for some. Tonight I had chicken marinated with a rub, grilled on a cedar plank on our barbeque, bok choy sauteed with onions and garlic in a little bit of olive oil, and turnip fries, all of which is 100% medi legal and delicious. Personally, I think while you are at home is the time to experiment with Medi legal foods and recipes. When you travel you will be more restricted and at the woes of the restaurants.

Please don't take this as a defensive or confrontational post. It is meant with the uptmost sincerity and concern. What you are doing may work for you and I hope so, but I truely want everyone to succeed and what has made this plan different for me is my willingness to get adventurous with the recipes. I have failed so many times in the past due to boredom and repetitive menus. Don't be afraid to try the recipes, they will not stall your weightloss. I hope I haven't offended you. Good luck in your weightloss journey and keep posting.

Susie

P.S. I have fruit sparingly, because I would rather have the volume from the veggies. Fruit to me is an occasional dessert and when I have it I make it special like with the baked apple and dallop of frozen whip cream.

Hi Susie - no worries - what I meant by 'purist' is that I stick to a piece of meat and a cup of veggies - not exciting or adventurous at all - the thought of making turnip fries is completely beyond me at this point! I do stay away from processed foods so I usually have a piece of fish or chicken or egg - maybe a hamburger patty!

As I said previously - you certainly live the program and I am sure you will continue to be successful. Your posts really inspire me to try and think about how I will start to experiment when I feel that I am ready. I know this will change as I become more at ease with my ability to make good choices and to identify what carbs my body can handle.
Thanks for taking the time to write and give feedback!

Hello everybody and congrats for the losses, just came back from vacation and went to my clinic for my weigh-in. 3 pounds in 2 weeks ( not bad for not behaving 100% medi for 1 week during vacation, I got back my ketosis in 3 days) I'm down a total of 21 pounds in 7 weeks.

McBoo - Have a wonderful time in MD. It was so green and beautiful when I was there a week or so ago. Enjoy the graduation and the crabs!

2fat4fun - I would love for you to put a "nolonger" in front of your post name. I'm glad you understood my reply and I'm glad you are eating real food and not processed food. I look forward to you gaining more confidence in your preparation and trying new recipes. I have worked towards make this a way of life because that is what I think it will take to keep the weight off in maintenance.

Karen - Welcome back from vacation and good job! I'm so glad you posted that so that others will know they can still be successful while on vacation.

Lady - 7 lbs is an awesome weightloss. WTG!

Karen- did you go somewhere fun? Glad you were able to enjoy your vaca and still lose wt thats a real accomplishment!

Mcboo-enjoy Maryland!

I am still really nervous about the weekend party at work. Eek! I do not want to tell those guys what diet I am on, its my last day there anyway. They are mostly high school kids anyway. I'm going to tell my new boss when I start my new job on Monday, but only because I am concerned about 12 hour shifts. I am going to keep it on a need to know basis. I am only telling the people that I feel might see what I amm taking or eating for now. Once I am successful I will share more. I know one of my coworkers is on Medi, but she told everyone she is on South Beach. I am wondering if I should tell her to see if she will confess, so we can work together at this while at work.

Hey everyone! I've been MIA lately because I'm in the middle of packing for an overseas move and haven't had any free time whatsoever. Just wanted to say that everyone is doing such a great job! I'll be back in my clinic next week but as of right now am at 190! 20lbs to go!

Susie
Susie, thanks for your advise!

I want to mantain my weight during the cruise. I called my travel agency and they already made arragement for my dinners, to be low fat/low carb.
I do not drink alchohol, so I will be OK with my water and unsweetened tea I just want to try a "coco loco" in Coco Kay.
I love more the taste of the grilled food than the fried food, so I will be OK with the grilled food.
My temptation will be, as usual, the breads ... but I can do it!

I will take tons of pics .... now I love pics!
