thanks for all the tips, your making me feel so much better!

Seeing what you take, Desert Rose for a 7 hour shift will def help me plan & spread it out.

I am so out of shape, Ive been working in a cubicle for the last 5 years, I am not sure how I am going to handle being a Nursing student on 12 hour shifts ON MY FEET all day! I think its going to be REALLy hard in the beginning. I don't even know what the breaks look like yet. I start on MONDAY. I actually applied for full time 3-1130, and what they gave me was three 12 hours shifts a week instead. This is going to sound weird, but Im really concerned about having to run to pee every ten minutes. I am REALLy worried about how to handle this at work. Its going to be embarrassing.

I will make it work!

Robyn, great job! I am so happy for you. I also wanted to thank you for your kind works in the May thread. I have decided to not to post here any longer as I don't think this group is what I need. But I wanted to let you know I appreciate the things you said. I have a couple of great low carb recipes, but since there isn't a DM function here, I'll have to figure out how to get them to you.

Hi - my name is Macauley...
having a slump at the moment. Feel like I want something other than PROTEIN! But I know it will pass. Had to change my appointment for a few more days away which has left me feeling a little tired. I didn't realize how much I gear myself up for my appointments. Am a principal of a high school so lots of end of the year stress...
Anyway - I don't write much but I read everyday. I appreciate all of you that write. Wow - just realized I have been on the program for four weeks today!
So - how do you all handle your slumps? Thanks!

I applaud you for going into Nursing! And it probably will be hard as you get started. I am sure everyone has told you to wear comfortable shoes...
I found that the "run to the bathroom" syndrome can be controlled a bit, and usually managed within your breaks/lunches and maybe a couple of other "trips"....at least that is how I managed it. My team was quite understanding...thank goodness...and I think if you advise your supervisor, you will find her/him quite accomodating. After all this is for your health!

And try to walk more as well...I know that sounds really odd seeing as you will be on your feet so much, but it will help. And it is a 36 hour week, you will have days when you can walk on your own schedule. And remember, we are always here to support you and encourage you!

Macauley- You are past week 1, so be sure you are enjoying your veggies and fruit! If you're really craving pasta, try some of the miracle noodles (there are tons of threads about them). For me, the $$ is a motivator. I know how expensive this program is and I think... is it REALLY worth eating that_________ and having to pay another week or 2 of appointment costs?

Also, try some of the medi-friendly recipes on the recipe thread! There are some great ways to mix up your meals a little.

HTH!!

Hi Macauley!
Just think, the school year is almost over, and you can breathe again. And I am not sure if you are physically tired or mentally tired due to the stress of year end. You might want to try the sublingual B12. It does provide a boost of energy. And take a look at the sweet snack thread. Susie posted a little goodie in there this morning that may give you taste of something that is not "just protein". And mix up your meals a little. Take a peek at the recipe thread...there are some really good ones in there! There also the Power Pops too!

When I start to get the feeling that I am tired, or such....I go for the exercise route. Walking, go ride the bike in the fitness center or go for a swim.

Hope this helps a little! Hang in there!

Hi Macauley,

You got some excellent advice from Jo and Jessica. Now here is my 2 cents... What are you in the mood for? A burger, fries, chili dog? Once you've figured that out make it, but make it with lean meat and no bread. Last night for dinner I was in the mood for chili dogs, so I had two 97% fat free Hebrew National hotdogs and put 3 tablespoons of Castleberry's Hot Dog Chili Sauce, 1 oz of reduced fat cheese, onions and dill pickles for a total of 180 cal/ 6.5g fat/ 7g carbs/ 3g fiber. I had a side salad too.

If you like fries, there is a recipe for turnip fries that is pretty good if you dip them in the low carb ketsup.

For me this plan has been successful because I have been eating well and do not feel deprived or bored. I have learned to readjust my thinking about carb ladened foods and have found that I do not miss them as long as I get the flavors that accompany the carbs. Check out the recipe thread, there are recipes for chili, pizza, quesadillas, chicken dishes, eggs benedict, shakes, pancakes, baked apple, and even cheesecake. You will be surprised out how good they taste.

If there is something you are in the mood for and do not know how to make it medi compliant, post it and we will see if we can help. There are alot of creative minds on this forum. Hang in there and thanks for what you do for our kids!

ANy tips for what to prepack for a full 12 hour shift? Im going to have to bring a lot of stuff!!

How late is too late to take the last fat burner & app suppresant? Im not sure what time will impact my sleeping, i try to go to bed at 1130PM. Does anyone have sleeping issues?
I just started Medi last week. Today will be my first weigh in. I work the overnight shift (mid-8), so I do have sleeping issues. On a night off from work I took my AS at 10pm. Shortly after, I decided to go to bed. My legs were kind of sore so I took 2 Tylenol PM and ended up staying awake until 4 in the morning....ugh.
Maybe it was the combo of the 2 things so close together but I decided to make sure I took my AS at least 4-6 hours before bed....just in case. That has been working fine and I have been sleeping well. This week I worked two 16 hour (4p-8a) shifts back to back. The day before the shifts, I made up my menu...pre measured everything at home and put it in baggies or containers with notes on them telling me what the serving size was, calorie count, carb count, etc. I brought plenty of water, Crystal Light Hydration and Diet Snapple Ice Tea as well as some broth. I also wrote down what I would eat and when I would eat it. This helped me stay on track.
I made some chicken salad with Fat Free Miracle Whip, brought Healthy Choice Turkey slices, and shrimp. I also purchased some flash frozen cod and haddock that were individually packaged, thawed them out and was able to bake them at work. We have a full kitchen, so that helps. I only had 8 hours to go home in between the shifts so on the second day I had a chocolate EASAdvantEDGE Carb Control shake for breakfast (on the run). As long as you plan your menu ahead of time, you shouldn't have a problem.
Good Luck !!

I don't do the shots but I take B12 sublingual, B1 and B6 at home daily and that has been helping me a lot.
I, too, am taking the sublingual B12 and a Super B-Complex tablet. I also agree with the sodium statement. In fact, I count sodium in my food diary. Two Sundays ago I had a pound of hotlinks for supper and Memorial Day I had 3 Brat's. While my calorie count was no more than 100 calories over my 1000-1200 goal, the fat and sodium was much more than what I am used too taking in so my 5.8 pound average loss dipped too .5 that week. Once I got past that and got back on my normal schedule.........this week

I have lost 6 pounds! WOO HOO!

135.25 pounds lost since my high weight and 120.25 pounds this year. 127.75 pounds to go! Over halfway to goal! Party On!

This is what I use

Heinz - One Carb Ketchup aka Heinz - Reduced Sugar Ketchup

I get it from Walmart. It has 1 carb, 5 calories per serving.

anniversary

Today is a big day for me. 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days, 1 whole year without gaining a pound, for the first time in my life. I started Medi 1 year ago today at 40 lbs more than I was this morning. Last year when I had nothing to wear because my 14s were too tight, I never dreamed that this year I would have nothing to wear because the 8 and 10s I bought when I hit maintenance last Sept. were too big. This program is amazing and you can keep the weight off, unlike everything else I've ever tried.

My original goal was to be "under 150" so I graduated myself when I hit 148.I went to the clinic 1 month later and had lost 3 more pounds so I decided I didn't need to go back. For those of you who are close and trying to decide whether to keep going to the clinic, I can tell you that I have lost a total of 10 lbs. since I started maintenance last Sept. I have not at all been trying to lose any more but I think the combination of the new eating lifestyle and a pretty rigid exercise regime just kicked in.

Maintenance has not been difficult. The hardest thing to me is the constant pressure I feel to stay diligent and on top of it, but that is probably what is making it work and something I will have to live with.

I am thrilled to see how many of you are so close. I look forward to sharing maintenance tips with you. Continuing to check in on this board has helped me a lot on maintenance, and I hope you all stay with the board when you get there. Celia

Congratualtions Celia.
I agree with you about maintainance not being that hard. I think once you wrap your mind about the fact that this is a lifestyle change it all makes sense. As you said exercise is a key component to this lifestyle. If anyone is under the impression that they can maintain their weightloss without the exercise will find out quickly just how important it is.

Justin,

Grilled Grouper
Grilled Mahi Mahi
Grilled Tuna
Peel and Eat Shrimp w/lemon
Fresh Veggies for the side or ask them to make you a small salad.

NO FRIES AND NOTHING THAT IS FRIED.

If you are going to the North Fort Myers location they are very accommodating.

Enjoy,

McBoo

John - Thanks! I wish you would stay with us, at least pop in read what has been written. I think you will find what you need here and maybe share once in awhile. We all have such different lifes and activities, I think we can all learn from each other since our common goal is to get the weight off!

Please share your recipes with us, you are the pro after! Sometimes I get so sick and tired of my cooking and wish I could have a brain infusion of new ideas. Chefs are amazing on how you can look at something so boring and ordinary and combine it with a few items to something amazing. I don't have that vision for cooking!

Good luck with your journey on Medi and the many daily challenges you face.

I have lost 6 pounds! WOO HOO!

135.25 pounds lost since my high weight and 120.25 pounds this year. 127.75 pounds to go! Over halfway to goal! Party On!
Awesome job! Keep it going down!

Jo, Jessica and Susie - Awesome advice to everyone! I just gotta say "DITTO" lol!

Jessica - Your TOM question. I have one week where my TOM started on weigh in day and I had a .4 gain, that really sucked. But I have to admit I am a closet weigher during the week, so I weighed myself the next day and I have lost 4 pounds. My total weight loss for that week after the .4 gain was 6 pounds. So in the end it worked out but it sure did not help at the time of the "bad" weigh in. So long story short, yes water gain is an issue with TOM, but it is short term, thank goodness.

Celia

Celia,

Congratulations on a huge accomplishment! And thanks for sharing about maintenance. The first thing people say to me when they learn about the plan is "you've lost alot of weight, but will you be able to keep it off?" I feel very confident that I will be able to. Lately, instead of focusing on counting calories I have focused on making right choices and living it as a lifestyle. I so appreciate your comment about going lower after maintenance, because I may want to do that, but I still want to start maintenance at Medi once I reach 155. You should be so proud of yourself. You and McBoo are an inspiration. I can't wait to join you.

Susie

I read about this on the LCF main page and borrowed it for here. It is a hydration calculator determining water intake based on your weight and activity level. We talk about water here a lot and I thought it was interesting. Sadly it appealed to my more geeky side!!!!

According to it I need to drink another 32 oz of water!

I am full of questions! Last night I made a 4oz 93% lean ground beef hamburger patty, after I cooked it, it was only 2.5 oz, HOW DO I COUNT THIS ? Is it precooked weight or after being cooked?

Celia- That is fantastic! You are giving me hope!

DesertRose- TY! I ahve wanted to be a nurse for so long! I got myself trapped in a cubicle for awhile, I have one more year before I graduate and take the Nclex.

Thin2be- working overnights? This has got to be a tougher adjustment for you! I took the AS yesterday at 5 and I was up all night! I took the Fat Burner later closer to 8, I think that may have led to the insomnia. And of course Im still waking up all night from all this water drinking. I am a mess right now!

Question for those that have been on this plan for awhile- Do you tell your friends and families what you are doing? I made that mistake once before when I was on a diet and then I had food police everywhere I went. Can you eat this? Can you eat that? I want to keep it to myself for now, but with it being so involved, I feel like I need to tell someone! My DF knows, but I think my new coworkers need to know.

Sat night is my last night at a new job, and I told them NO SWEETS. Now I heard they are baking cookies & getting a cake. I told them not to, and I do not plan to eat any of it. I don't want to offend, but i was pretty clear about not eating any sweets. They mean well.
