Garbanzo Beans/Chick Peas: Yay or Nay
Hello All,
Saturday will be the end of Week 1 for me and I am looking forward to adding some veggies to my diet. I was curious if anyone knew whether or not Garbanzo Beans (a.k.a. chick peas) were allowed with the program starting week 2? I really like them in salads as they make them a bit more filling. I would love to know what to look for on the nutrition labels to make sure it's alright, the whole carb/net carb thing has me confused (which do I care about?). Here is the caloric content and other information for a half cup serving size (which I don't think I would use that much of, maybe a 1/4 cup sprinkled on a salad). Calories 110 Fat 1.5g Sodium 390mg Carbohydrates 17g Sugars 1g Dietary Fiber 6g Protein 6gThanks! Last edited by KerryAnne78; 05-28-2009 at 12:35 PM.. Reason: Forgot to add the sugar count, duh :P |

Legumes of any kind are a big No-No during acute phase. Sorry.... Use some pork rinds crumbled up instead - 0 carbs, but watch the calories on them!

Kerry,
Look only at the actual carbohydrate count during the acute phase. And Robyn is absolutely correct. On the list of approved vegetables, the only beans listed are green beans, Italian beans, wax beans. All the approved vegetables contain 5 grams of carbs/2 grams of protein/0 grams of fat and 25 calories. They count as 1 cup raw or 1/2 cup cooked. The sodium count is high for the garbanzo/chick pea as is the carb count. The amount of carbs the program allows per day is 20 grams. Jo Last edited by Desert-Rose7; 05-28-2009 at 03:00 PM.. |

Bummer.
No garbanzo beans for me. Thank you both for responding. I really appreciate it. Thank you for the information regarding which carbs to pay attention to, I could have easily have messed up the whole process if I had used the net carbs instead of actual. Phew! |
