Aleve, Advil, Tylenol
I have a small tear in my achilles. Have been doing physical therapy and decided yesterday that I should take an anti-inflammitory. Does the aleve, advil or tylenol do anything to the ketosis or this weight loss plan? Should I be adding or deleting anything to my diet? I want this to get better so I can start walking, stationary bike at the Y is getting old.

I have been to my PCP and she sent me to a physical therapist. Been doing therapy and I have always used the Advil or Aleve when I have had sports injuries. That was all before Medi Weight Loss Clinic visits. Will the Advil affect the diet, if so how? I will ask when I check in Wed. but didn't know if anyone already had the answer. Thanks.

Well, as an example, I live with a partial tear in my left ACL. I was in almost constant pain prior to the program, and my orthopod said "suck it up and we will work with PT" or "we can do surgery". I opted for the PT. And worked through the pain. Now with my weight going down, I have absolutely no pain and can walk with the best of them. My doc will not prescribe anti inflamatory drugs of any kind unless necessary beyond a shadow of a doubt. This tear will never totally heal on its own, but the doc is impressed at how well it is behaving.
AND most importantly, Listen to your doctor! I take a low dose aspirin every morning and that has not affected my weight loss in any way. Give your clinic a call and see what they say. I can find nothing in the materials at all about this subject. I have not checked the website to see if there might be something there. Wish I could be of more help. Jo |

Jo, I did the same thing and checked in the paperwork and couldn't find anything. I have taken ibuprofen while on the diet for headaches and such, I did not see any adverse effects on the weight loss, but I did not take the ibuprofen for extended periods of time, probably just a couple days max.
I think I would call the clinic today and see what they say, better safe than sorry. |

I actually asked at my clinic because I am prone to migraines. And was told if I get a headache, take some aspirin just like I normally would. So I don't see why you couldn't for your injury. Doesn't hurt to check with your clinic though.

Those over-the-counter pain relievers won't affect the diet, but they may upset your stomach, if you are taking to many or taking them regularly on an empty stomach... and let's face it, our stomachs are pretty empty lately. I would opt for Tylenol, if you are able to swing it... It is the most mild and the least likely to affect your stomach. Also, soaking in Epsom Salts... Good Luck!
