You're going to do great! You'll find WONDERFUL information and support in this forum. I'm just finishing out the first week...the first few days are the worst and then, I promise, you will start to feel human again. ha

I started a week ago and just had my second weigh in. I lost 9 pounds the first week. The days haven't been bad -adjusting to not having an emotional 'friend' has been something I have been having to deal with. I read the posts every day. It helps a lot. Thanks to all of you who write about your journey.
Question to you all - did you go through a period where, after you started, that you were angry, sad, frustrated, that you had let yourself get to this point?

to all of you!

For me the emotion is more of disbelief. I still think I am that fat person in my mind. I still go to the XL's and larges. Now every top in my closet is way to big even though I just bought them. Tonight I had to pull out the sewing machine and take an inch off each side of the shirt I wanted to wear tonight. I am having trouble coming to terms that I am a medium. Everyone tells me I look normal to thin, but I still feel fat and think they are just telling me what I want to hear. I know deep down that I am not, but that is how I am used to feeling. Does anyone else struggle with this? McBoo, did you go through this? I think it is because the weight came off unbelievably fast.

The other thing is all the attention! At first it was wonderful, but sometimes it is so overwhelming that it feels awkward. I know everyone is so proud of me and being supportive and I love them for that, but I am ready to blend in.

It is so wonderful to have this forum to express our emotions. Thank you all!

Susie

For me it was just the coming to grips with the fact that I will never ever be able to eat some of the trigger foods that I used to eat before. In the first week it felt like I lost a friend. Six weeks later, it has sunk in and I am understanding from a health perspective why it has to be this way and I am feeling at peace with that. With 74 more lbs to go I have a long time for it to settle in as a new way of life vs. a diet. Also, I have decided to not beat myself up over getting so heavy. I cannot change the past, I can only shape my future...and I want it to be a nice, healthy hourglass shape

I can relate to this. The first week I was so upset because of what I was putting my family through because of my weight. The financial part is a sacrifice for us and I just really hate thinking of what that money could be spent on otherwise. I know it's even more important that they have a healthy mommy but I hate the cost. It is a motivator though. There were many times the first few days when I wanted to give up but remembering how much it cost made me push through. I was also sick the first few days while I figured out what timing, etc of the pills and food would work for me, so that made be feel bad as well. That they were stuck waiting on me or not doing things because I was so fat that I had to do this.

Now, I'm feeling better. I still feel bad about the money, but like I said before, I'm trying to use it as a motivator!!

Susie: I have experienced everything you mentioned. Even though I've been on maintenance and a size 6 or 8 since October, I still feel like I'm doing something illegal when I go to that end of the rack at a store. I don't necessarily still feel like I'm overweight but my head hasn't caught on to the fact that I'm almost tiny now. At least compared to where I was.

I also agree on the attention issue. At this point my response is "thank you I'm just trying to keep it off." Then there are the concerned friends - " you're not still losing weight are you, you're getting too thin". My response to that is - "I'm 140 lbs that's a long way from anorexic". I actuallly think some of these people are envious.

Mcboo, I'd love to hear your experiences. None of us have been "small" for very long so I guess we'll all figure out together when you get used to it!

Congratulations on your happy surprise! That's the best reason I can think of to hold off on the program. :-)

Celia,
I get the same thing "your not still losing weight are you" comment all the time. I politely tell them that I am on maintainance and am very happy with my weight and don't plan on losing any more. As you know in maintainance your weight flucuates a few pounds here and there but I make sure that my clothes feel comfortable and I will not buy anything bigger. I also will not wear anything with an elastic waistband or drawstring (workout and swimwear excluded) as that can let the weight creep back on without you being aware of it until it is too late. I have the clothes buying thing down at this point. When I was bigger I would complain that i could never find anything that was big enough. Now I have a problem finding things that are small enough. I have to buy in the young mens department now. I have kept that shirt in my before picture and tried it on last week it was a 2x. The shirt in my after pic is a small and that is what I wear now. I never would have thought in a million years I would be this size.

Thanks for all of your posts - it's sad that in some way we often think we aren't deserving of this.
I am having a hard time getting into the routine. I know that if I don't plan for the day I am sunk. It's not that hard yet to decide what to eat because I can eat so little - but I look forward to not having to THINK about it so much. Any tips on how to get the routine really going?

When I first started out on Medi, I would prepare the next day's meals the night before. This made it easy for me when it came time to eat because the food was already prepared so I didn't have to think about it, just take out the container and eat. I find it easier to control portion sizes when I prepare food in advance as well, rather than when it is mealtime and I am hungry.

I agree Jon, planning each day ahead is the best way to make sure that you do not over eat. The 500 calories add up in a hurry. Good advice!
