Oh, and potassium 680mg
Another Oh, and they taste good, so I'm sure it is bad and not part of the program,

I am not sure if they are the same I buy at Costco, they are called PREMIER NUTRITION. If so, they are perfectly fine, I have them everyday and I haven't have any problem with my weight loss.

They taste very good and creamy!

I love them!

Hi There!

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to join this or not, since I'm in Michigan and don't actually have a clinic nearby. I am having an awful time trying to get this weight off and this seems like the quickest way to do it without totally attacking my metabolism. I have a bachellorette party this weekend and so I am able to start Monday without an issue. I have read through this site and I know that it's 500 calories of protein and a thermogenic fat burner. I can do that. I also know in a few weeks, I need to add low carb veggies for a total of 800 calories. So I can do this....not supervised, but if I feel funky, etc I will get with my doctor or stop.

Smile

Thanks Orlando,
They are the Premier Nutrition Brand, I had one yesterday and I am still in ketosis. I think they taste awesome. I will still try and find the EAS ones but so long as I loose and stay in ketosis I will use/finish up with the box. My son will be using them too.

Another question, my clinic was pushing the Omega 3 the other day. I hadn't been taking it. She said I should add that whether I use theirs or someone elses. I found Kirklands at Costco and it is 1200 mg and directions say once a day with full glass of water. In our medi journal it has 3xday. I'm not sure what the mg are for the medi ones. Should I be taking more of my Kirkland because of our low calorie intake?

I personally take 2 of the Kirkland one in the morning and one in the evening. The medi Omega 3 are 1000mgs

When I was in the acute phase I did not count those calories and now that I am on maintainance I definatly don't count those calories because it is so small in my daily calories.

Well, my nurse at Medi asked me today if I had given any thought to getting a tummy tuck. I just don't know. I have heard positives and negatives about these. I have heard that some people lose anywhere from 30 to 50 additional pounds from having a tummy tuck. But 6 weeks of no heavy lifting or heavy exercise seems like a long time when I'm used to doing something every day. I wouldn't do it until I was in the 275 - 250 range if I did decide to have it. What do ya'll think? Oh, BTW, 3 pounds lost since Tuesday.....lol!

Jerry,

I personally wouldn't do it until I reached my goal weight. That way you can guage how much excess skin you may have if any at all. Of course this is just my opinion. I hear you on the no heavy lifting for 6 weeks. Been there done that and I was bored out of my mind.

Congrats on the weight loss this week.

Excess Skin After Weight Loss - Excess Skin after Losing a Large Amount of Weight

My doctor has told me to wait 2 years after reaching goal weight to even THINK about it. He said that in the mean time, I should be using cocoa butter on my skin and drinking lots of water.

I am in agreement with McBoo here. Why subject yourself to a surgery when you still have weight to lose? If, after reaching your goal weight, and maintaining it for at least six months, then reconsider whether this is something you need/want to do. This is major surgery we are talking about.

I have two friends who did the gastric bypass route. They both had large amounts of excess skin but primarily because neither one did any kind of exercise at all. One has regained the weight, the other has not and has gone ahead with the tummy tuck surgery (she lost a total of 180 pounds). She is happy with the results and has kept the weight off. But she waited for at least six months after reaching goal weight to do it.

After you reach goal, and you still want to do this, then make sure you read everything you can get your hands on, and research plastic surgeons carefully before you go ahead.

Congratulations to all of you that have seen great results. Nothing will stop you to getting to your goal weight. I only have 30 lbs to loose and know how hard that has been, it sure was easier going on then coming off. This life style change has been fairly easy for me so far. I hope as summer roles around that I can keep it up like you guys all have. You are giving all of us inspiration. Jerry, 134 + lbs. WOW. Congratulations again!

Hey guys, I need some help from my Tampa area friends. I have houseguests and we are planning on going to the Columbia restaurant on Sunday evening. Could you guys look at their menu and see what I can order? There is NO nutrition information at all. Things are heavy on the rice so obviously I will be special ordering. Any help is appreciated!

Columbia Restaurant - Columbia Menu
Yum - The Columbia!
Tapas
Mejiliones y Chorizo “Andres”
Named for Andres Sanchez who produced and provided our family with the best Chorizo, made right here in Ybor City. Fresh Prince Edward Island mussels and sliced Chorizo, sauteéd and simmered with extra virgin olive oil, onions, celery, tomato, basil, spinach and garlic splashed with dry white wine and lemon. Delicioso!
Albondigas
Homemade beef meatballs in a mildly spicy tomato sauce.
Soup
Gazpacho Andaluz
Spain's famous cold soup of puree of ripe tomatoes, green peppers, onions, cucumbers and garlic. Topped tableside with finely diced vegetables and Hold the toasted Cuban croutons.
Salad - they all look friendly really - IMO
Dinner entree' - no rice, I would say no plantains (too starchy) :0(
Plenty of grilled choices in chicken or seafood or beef. I personally LUV roast pork and prepare it "pretty good for a white girl" or so our cuban friends tell me - LOL
Don't even look at the desert page .... I think I gained 5 lbs just reading it
I would get an after dinner cafe' con leche; request an artificial sweetener or bring your own sweetener and ask for it unsweet.

Check out this link - they have a Gluten Free section Columbia Restaurant - Columbia Menu

Did I mention I am jealous!!!!! There are very few foods I really really want after my journey so far with medi. One is a GOOD Cuban Roast Pork sandwich on pressed Cuban Bread........... I don't really bake but I have been thinking of trying to make a loaf of cuban bread with whole wheat four later on.

UPDATE

Well, I went in for my weigh in this morning.
I gained water and fat! BUT...............
I started maintenance today anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I still can't believe that this is happening to me. I darn near cried when I was driving to work. They showed me the ugly fat before pic again and I still can't believe I let that happen! Never again - I promise!

I go in next week for my first maintenance visit and will be totally off the app supp by then and on the Stay Slim completely.

My journey is not over - McBoo I am going to need you more and more now! I have to admit I am a little scared about eating carbs again even if they are whole grains.

Nikki,

Congratulations on starting maintainance. I know what you mean about being scared. I was exactly the same way. You will gradually increase your carbs and learn exactly how they effect you. Just take it slow. It becomes second nature. I am here should you have any questions. I am more than willing to share my experiences so far.

Hi Jessica~
I have gone over the whole menu from top to bottom and made a few choices. Let me state up front that I work this program very seriously and very strictly. Therefore, my choices are based on what I would choose if I were going to be going to this restaurant.

You have been on the program since May 1st. Not very long. So I would advise being careful with your choices. What you choose is ultimately totally up to you. Just remember why you began this program, and your longterm goal.

These are the items I would look at if it were my choice to make:

Mahi Mahi "Cayo Hueso"
Boneless fillet of Mahi Mahi marinated in citrus juices and grilled. Served with "Good Rice" yuca, platanos and mojo.

This is a okay fish…the citrus juices are probably okay for a one time thing. Forget the rice, the yuca and the plantanos. Find out the size of the portion, and if necessary take half of it home.

Pollo "Champiñíon"
Chargrilled boneless breast of chicken topped with a grilled sliced portabella mushroom and a rich Spanish Amontillado sherry sauce. Served with "Good Rice"

This is a good choice as well but forget the fancy sauce and the rice. Find out the size of the chicken breast, and if necessary take half of it home. Fancy mushroom is okay and is considered a veggie for you.

Filet Mignon
Grilled choice center cut tenderloin. Served with fresh vegetables and yellow rice or potato.

This is also a good choice. Forget the yellow rice/potato and find out what the fresh veggies are before you get them. Find out also how large the portion is. If larger that 3-4 ounces, ask for a half portion and take the rest home for another day.

The soups are all off limits, not a safe item there at all. And the salads are also off limits with all the fancy ingredients. If they can serve a mixed greens salad with no dressing, and you take your spritzer dressings, then that is fine.

If you choose something from the tapas menu, the safest item would be:

Langostinos “1905”
Four Panamanian prawns grilled and dressed with “1905” sauce.

Grilled but minus the “1905” sauce, although if they can serve the sauce on the side, you could dip sparingly.

The dessert menu is a definite off limits zone. Read it if you must, like one would read a fantasy tale!

Plain coffee or expresso is okay….but forget the steamed milk. And of course, it goes without saying, that alcohol should be avoided, but that is a personal choice.

This restaurant is full of calories, carbs, sugar and other items that are not
on our list during the acute phase. This does not mean you cannot have a good time. Again, I made these selections based on what I myself would choose. You certainly do not have to choose what I did.

And I certainly have been to restaurants since I began the program. And I have managed to stay on plan, within my caloric limits. It is a very serious thing for me to make this work. So please take my advice as you wish.

Nikki- HUGE congrats!! That is so awesome. That must be the best feeling!!

Jo & Nikki- Thanks for your input! I know, Cuban food is like one of the worst possible choices! But our houseguests requested it (they are from out of town) and I have been open with them about my diet, so I'm totally comfortable making a special request in front of them! I do not drink alcohol as it is, or coffee, so those are not a temptation for me. Obvsiously dessert is a no go, but one of our friends is diabetic, so we would probably not all order that under "normal" circumstances.

Jo, I will probably stick with your suggestions because they're a little conservative. We eat out as well and I always go through the nutrition info now before we leave the house. I don't need rich food to have a good time and I like to feel prepared so I'm not ordering something with "unknown" calories. There are so many things on this menu that are no-nos, so I am making sure I can be equipped with good options!

I appreciate your input! I am surprised that I find that I'm really hardly tempted to "cheat". I'm so happy with the weekly successes so far! I like feeling like I'm in control of my food choices and making healthy choices as well

Jessica~Thanks for calling my choices "a little conservative". I thought they were pretty strict! But then, that is exactly the way I work the program. I know you will enjoy yourself, and keep yourself focused.
I have been to "Outback", "Red Robin", "Red Lobster" "Sweet Tomatoes", "Charleston's", and "Carraba's" with no problems. The servers are really understanding and helpful once they know what you are doing.

I appreciate your input! I am surprised that I find that I'm really hardly tempted to "cheat". I'm so happy with the weekly successes so far! I like feeling like I'm in control of my food choices and making healthy choices as well
Thanks Jessica - trust me you will make the right decisions for you tomorrow night. Cuban food as a whole really isn't that bad. The "1905" sauce is mainly oil & vinegar; like Jo said ask for it on the side. One thing I have found along the way is that food just plain tastes better now; think it is because my body has been flushed from the toxins. It really seems like, to me at least, that the better more flavorful my meal is the easier it is for me to stay on portion.

Great Job Everyone!

Just checking in - been so crazy with work that i haven't had time to post much. Went to Medi this week, first time in 6 weeks, but I had lost 3.9 lbs! Whoohoo! I am officially in maintenance, but really no change for me as I haven't been taking appetite suppressants. I kicked it into high gear a few weeks ago as one of my co-workers started Medi and I did the first week with her. Thought I would have a harder time with no meds, but it was easier this time. She did great - better than I did the first time. Hoping that she will post on here as this is the best source of information and support ever!!

You guys rock!

Happy Memoria Day to all of you!

Couple of veggie questions:

1. How do you measure your spinach? Before or after cooking? A whole bag of spinach can cook down to 1/2 cup, so how do you count this for portion control?

2. I know we are not eating winter squash but what about spaghetti squash? I remember my mom eating this on Atkins, but I don't know about this for us on Medi. I love spaghetti squash

Thanks!!
