Also, my dietitian this week suggested if I want a chocolate fix, to go to the grocery store and pick up a box of 100 calorie packs of Emerald brand Cocoa-Roasted Almonds. They're soooooo yummy! I actually like them better than the chocolate medi bars, they're much less expensive, and only 4g of carbs as opposed to 11 in the bars. And it gives me that chocolate fix I need sometimes. |

I made the pumpkin shake! SOO good! But it did have a little "chemically" aftertaste. Did anyone notice that? Maybe cause i didnt use the yogurt?
But still very very good! |

What do you get from Netrition.com? I'm placing an order today. So far in my cart I have PB2 & guar gum. Anything else I should order? Are there any good bars that we can have in the acute phase?

Just an FYI...with a little research in your local shops...you can find almost everything on the website. I have found almost everything people have asked for at Safeway, Fry's (Krogers), Trader Joe's. Whole Foods, Sprouts, Target. All or some of the items are found in these stores. My local GNC and Hi Health have most of the supplements, plus they can also be found at Sam's and Costco. I really hate paying shipping charges and would rather ride my bike and shop locally.

~Sharon~ I have found that the Curves bars work pretty well. The others from Atkins and such just are too big and have too many calories/carbs.

Sharon- I buy the South Beach snack bars (NOT the meal bars. Look for the ones with 100-130 calories). They are about the same nutritionally as the Medi bars, taste great, and are WAY cheaper. I buy them at WalMart, not on netri tion.

I bought a few things on netrition recently, and didn't care for a few of them. However, one thing that I would definitely buy again (and will!) is the "quick and thick" thickening agent for shakes, sauces, etc. I have been adding it to my protein shakes and it has made a HUGE difference, and gives me that thick restaurant-type milkshake that i have been missing out on! I also ordered a few mixes (cookie mix, muffin mix, cinnamon bun mix) but i'm in maintenance so i'm not sure if they are "legal" for everyone. Again haven't tried those yet but I thought i'd get them and bring them up to the mountains for Thanksgiving so I could have a few sweet things around to keep me away from everything else! I did order the "carb quick" biscuit/pancake mix and my husband makes pancakes for he and the kids every Saturday morning and he used it saturday and BLEHHHHHH, it was disgusting! we threw all the pancakes out, they weren't even really edible honestly. but i thought hey, gotta try it once, right?? I'd love to hear if there are other things out there that are winners/losers!

Tried the medi-friendly brownies last night. Absolutely horrid! It just tasted like bittersweet chocolate. I kept adding more and more splenda and after about 3 cups of the stuff it was still really bitter. I baked them anyway, and they were still bad.
I guess this is a good thing, though. Means I won't eat the whole pan like I would with normal brownies! Especially since my dietitian wants me to cut down 'desserts' to once or at most twice a month. Just out of curiosity though (because it's that time of year) does anyone have a medi-friendly egg nog recipe? It would be hard to get through the holidays without at least one cup of egg nog! |

I think i followed the recipe right! I know they were mushy grossness. I have to find a real dessert substitution or im going to go crazy. im having a very hard time right now with food, not hungry but when i am i cant eat the same things over and over again. it could be because of TOM.. since mine is SO long. Im just having a difficult time. maybe if someone could post what they normally eat in a day..it could help me out. thanks

I, too, would love to see what others in acute phase eat each day. I have not lost as much as I've hoped for so far (only 14 in 8 weeks). It seems I only lose when I eat the same things over and over. I have stayed on plan, but when I try new foods or recipes, I do not lose much that week, I then go back to boiled eggs, canadian bacon, grilled and baked chicken and tuna. Booorrring.

Ashley- Look for some sugar-free popsicles that have very low carbs. Those can help. Or buy the South Beach chocolate covered soy nuts (I find them at WalMart in the pharmacy). They have 100 cals and really help around TOM for me. Limit yourself to 1-2 per week during TOM and that should help out

Ashley.. That's so strange because when I made mine they came out great. They were the consistency of pumpkin pie but in little mini tarts. I'm not sure what could have happened. The first time I made them I put some in cupcake tins but they came out like mush, so I just sprayed the cupcake pan with Pam and they came out great! Sorry it didn't work for you!

Ashley, I made these as well, per the recipe and they were great for Thanksgiving day! Even non-dieters loved them. Are you sure you put the eggs in. That is the binding agent! Sorry these didn't work out for you.

cheesecake bites
I have a question about the cheesecake bites. Anyone make them without a mini muffin tin? I have a regular muffin tin.. will it work the same?
Thanks! Ashley |

I would suggest keeping them in the ice cube trays because of a couple reasons. 1). portion control/calorie counting and 2). they are kind of hard-ish when they come out of the freezer in ice-cube tray size, so I'd imagine that muffin tin size would be close to impossible to eat.

I agree to use an ice cube tray for portion control. The cheesecake bites and the peanut butter cups (frozen) are awesome! I have both in my freezer now and a couple times a week (I only have a treat like that 1-2 times a week and only if I worked out and drank all my water). It is great because they are in the freezer and you just take out 1 or 2. Great way to portion control.

Medi Friendly?
I make Avgolemeno soup (its a greek egg, lemon, rice soup) for my family frequently. I make it with chicken and its great and refreshing in the winter. I was making it yesterday and decided to adapt for MWL. Can someone else take a look and decide if it would be Medi Friendly.
Boil a whole chicken for 1 hour, till meet starts to fall off bone. Take chicken out and debone and set aside. Beat 4 eggs with 1 cup lemon juice, slowly add in the homemade chicken broth and beat till frothy. At this point I would normally add the rice and cook it. I took out the soup for me with no rice in a separate bowl and proceeded to add rice to the pot for my family and let it cook till rice is done (cook only till firm) You then add in the shredded chicken. So I added some shredded chicken to my bowl, and added rest to my families soup. Add salt & pepper to taste. What do all the experts think? I hope it would be, as it awesome and easily modified for the plan. |
